I AM, I FEEL, I DO, I LOVE, I SPEAK, I SEE, I UNDERSTAND Hello World! This publication has been a dream of mine for well over a decade. I tried to start it so many times and failed miserably [or so I perceived it]. After years of half-baked newsletters, blogs and the like, vaguely addressing a wide variety of subjects, and never really getting it off the ground or managing to maintain the energy to keep it going………
Two years ago Bianca and I toyed with the idea of a magazine to promote our esoteric shop and apothecary. We started off terribly excited but life gets in the way and, as so many times before, it fell by the wayside. I started to revive it about 15 months ago when I realised that a publication like this could really help millions of people as opposed to the few I was helping with individual therapy and small workshops. I love all types of art forms and adore people who follow their soul passions. I wanted a publication to reflect the inherent and unique creative nature in all of us. I am passionate about the Earth and the Cosmos and everything in it. I have an ardent affection for the science behind the power of the plant and mineral world and the effect it has on us.
However, my biggest stumbling block was myself! There were so many of my own fears stopping me: fear of failing [again], fear of ridicule and possibly persecution, fear of people [even though I love humanity dearly], and I am the worst kind of perfectionist, control freak who wants to do absolutely everything herself. A few months ago, I attended an Intro seminar for Robin Banks’ “Ignite your Vision” course and reignited my dream. Another follow up seminar with Robin Banks and the Real Success seminar hosted by Brian Walsh and entrepreneur.co.za, and BAAANG! The dream was alive again. As I started committing more time and effort into this project, people were popping into my life with similar values and goals. The whole venture started to snowball! I stopped all other work to focus on the publication.
7 Very soon we were in the middle of an insane project with deadlines during year-end silly season. I missed our first proposed deadline due to exams, injury, illness, relationship breakups, load-shedding, rain, and, and, and……… [haha! there’s always someone or something to blame, yes?]
As Christmas approached and companies started closing down for the holidays, it became increasingly difficult to see the completion of this Introductory Issue. I was running out of time and feeling very unsupported. I felt like I was constantly nagging my team and I wasn’t getting the results I wanted.
There were days when I really felt that I couldn’t pull this off! I was physically and emotionally exhausted. Some nights I would be in tears in front of my computer, thinking “Am I doing the right thing? I haven’t had an income for months and this publication still isn’t finished – do I quit and go back to the meagre income I had before? At least we got by…..”
In December I received a lovely surprise package from Brian Walsh’s Real Success Club and spent a few days going through the work book and audios. I realised that in my frenetic race to finish this issue, I had fallen asleep again and forgotten all the keys to success and abundance.
My dear friend and spiritual adviser, Dr Cornelia Higginson, told me that this publication could be a phenomenal success but if I stopped for one moment, it would fail. She said it was all up to me to manifest my dream. So all I could do was move forward: step by step, we got closer every day [while listening to hours and hours of motivational CDs].
I took a week off [ironic, considering I had already missed my deadline] to rejuvenate and re-assess my progress and my plan of action. Just after Christmas I went for some Constellation and Body Stress Release therapy sessions to shift my very stuck energy. After reintegrating my sense of self worth and actively engaging the Universal Laws, I started taking MASSIVE action again. Between Brian Walsh’s Kickstart 2015 and Secrets to Success with Dr John Demartini, and Peter Sage’s Million Master Class, I reaffirmed that I am indeed on the right track. Dr Cornelia Higginson surprised me with a phone call and reminded me that this is MY dream and that I would have to put in 95% of the work myself in order to manifest it. A glorious kick on the bum and I pulled it together!
I am honoured to present the Introductory Issue of Intellectus Publications. My thanks and gratitude to everyone [and me!] My greatest desire is to live in a for making this dream a reality. peaceful, healthy and happy world. I have come to the realisation that only I can create my reality, and that the world I so wish to live in starts with me. This publication is my gift to the world, with the hope that I can stir something in the souls of every person on our beautiful planet and inspire growth, abundance and fulfilment.

Body, Mind and Soul The concept of the “whole self� varies considerably around the world, having origins in many ancient cultures. The body, mind and soul are inexplicably linked and all are affected when any distress is experienced. The Aura There is much debate and theory surrounding the aura, its layers and its functions: auras are simply layers of energy existing in the same space vibrating at different frequencies. For the purpose of this publication we note the following four energetic fields: 1. Etheric Body: The first layer is the energetic bridge between the physical body and the higher expressions of the self. The etheric layer maintains the energy or life force within the physical body. This layer is the template that outlines the physical body and it is here where physical ailments and trauma is sensed and seen. The etheric layer is a reflection of the physical state of the corporeal body.
2. Emotional Body: Also known as the astral body, this layer is the home of emotions, desires and fears. The energetic vibration of our thoughts and feelings are stored in this layer.
3. Mental Body: The mental body is composed of three layers: the Instinctual Mental Body, the Intellectual Mental Body and the Spiritual Mental Body. This is where tangible thought, ideas and inspirations originate from. These filter down through the emotional and etheric bodies into the physical body.
4. Spiritual Body: The Causal or Spiritual Body is concerned with abstract concepts and the essence of all things. It is the closest resonance to the Higher Self or Divine Self.

The Sanskrit word “chakra” means wheel of light. A chakra is a spinning vortex of life force energy. Each chakra receives and transmits life force energy [also known as chi, prana or universal intelligence]. Many different cultures and philosophies acknowledge these vortices but may not include minor chakras, sub-personal or transpersonal chakras.
Each chakra resonates with a particular frequency and plays an integral part in vibrational medicine. Returning the chakras to their natural or perfect state of vibration and frequency can be achieved by colour, light, sound, gems, aromas, sacred geometry and energy work.

The Endocrine system refers to the collection of organs and cells responsible for intercellular communication via the production and distribution of chemical messengers, namely, hormones. The Endocrine System is stimulated, not only, by physical, nutritional and environmental factors, but also by emotional and mental influences. Many endocrine dysfunctions can be rectified by shifting mental and emotional processes.

The Hypothalamus - produces Antidiuretic hormone (ADH) and oxytocin The Pituitary Gland - the anterior lobe produces Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH), Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), Luteinising Hormone (LH), Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH), Prolactin, Growth Hormone (GH) and Melanocyte Stimulating Hormone (MSH) while the posterior lobe stores and secretes ADH and oxytocin produced by the Hypothalamus. ACTH- secretion of cortisol and corticosterone from the adrenal cortex. ADH- reabsorption of water in the kidneys and elevation of blood pressure. Aldosterone- increases water and sodium reabsorption in the kidneys thus elevating blood pressure. Androgens- encourages bone and muscle growth. Calcitonin-regulates calcium levels in blood and bone. Calcitriol- stimulates calcium and phosphate absorption in the gastrointestinal tract and stimulates calcium release from bones. Corticosterone- anti-inflammatory and helps mobilise glucose, protein and lipids for utilisation. Cortisol- anti-inflammatory and helps mobilise glucose, protein and lipids for utilisation. Enterocrinin- stimulates mucus production in the duodenum of the small intestine. Epinephrine- flight hormone (elevates blood pressure and cardiac output, mobilises glucose stores for use). Erythropoietin- stimulates red blood cell production. Gastric Inhibitory Peptide-inhibits gastric motility and stimulates the pancreas to release insulin. Gastrin- stimulates acid and enzyme production in the stomach and promotes gastric motility. Ghrelin- reduces insulin sensitivity and promotes appetite (i.e. the hunger hormone). Glucagon- elevates blood glucose levels by mobilising fat and glycogen stores. Growth Hormone- growth and protein/lipid metabolism. FSH- follicular development and oestrogen formation in females and stimulation of sperm maturation in males. Inhibin- negative-feedback control of the release of FSH (i.e. inhibits FSH release). Insulin- lowers blood glucose levels and promotes glucose storage as glycogen in the liver and adipose tissue in the body. Leptin- appetite control (i.e. the satiation hormone). LH- ovulation and progesterone formation in females and secretion of testosterone in males. Melatonin- regulates the sleep cycle, reproduction and anti-oxidant effects. MSH- stimulates melanocyte synthesis of pigments in skin. Natriuretic Peptides; ADP and BNP- promote sodium and water excretion by the kidneys thus lowering blood pressure Norepinephrine- fight hormone (elevates blood pressure and cardiac output, mobilises glucose stores for use). Oestrogens- female secondary sexual characteristics and follicle development. Oxytocin- uterine contractions during labour and milk excretion during lactation in females and contractions of the ductus deferens and prostate gland in males. Parathyroid Hormone- regulates calcium levels in blood and bone. Prolactin- milk production in mammary glands. Progestins- prepares uterus for implantation of a fertilised ovum and prepares mammary glands for milk excretion. Renin- initiates the Renin-Angiotensin cascade to elevate blood pressure. Secretin- increases secretion of bile, buffers the pH in the intestines and promotes gastric motility. Serotonin- the happy hormone/neurotransmitter- helps regulate moods and emotions. Testosterone- male secondary sexual characteristics, sperm maturation, musculoskeletal development and protein synthesis in skeletal muscles. Thymosins- help co-ordinate and regulate the immune system in children. Thyroid Hormones- govern metabolism of entire body. TSH- production and secretion of thyroid hormones from the thyroid gland. Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide- inhibits acid production in the stomach and stimulates secretory function in the intestines as well as causes dilation of intestinal blood vessels to increase nutrient absorption.
The functioning of the Endocrine system is a delicate balance of interactions between numerous hormones and cells. The external and internal environment, diet, lifestyle, stress levels, comorbid conditions, acute/chronic viral infections and even pregnancy can affect the Endocrine system. Endocrine imbalances are best diagnosed using blood tests; they can be managed/treated both naturally and using conventional medicine.

The Meridian System By Dr Hannah Norton
What are Meridians? The concept of meridians originated in Traditional Chinese Medicine some 4500 years ago. They are considered to be pathways in the body that allow the flow of energy (known as Chi) throughout all the organs and systems in an individual. These energy pathways, if unobstructed, are responsible for maintaining the health and vitality of the individual as well as transporting this vital energy throughout the body. Meridians flow within the body in a network of corresponding pairs. Each pair is composed of a Yin and Yang component meridian. In addition to this, each meridian runs along both sides of the body thus allowing a complete distribution of energy.
The 12 Meridians Each Meridian governs a specific organ/ organ system. The meridians are paired as follows:
Liver meridian (Yin) and Gallbladder meridian (Yang).
Heart meridian (Yin) and Small Intestine meridian (Yang). Circulation meridian (Yin) and Triple Burner meridian (Yang). Spleen/Pancreas meridian (Yin) and Stomach meridian (Yang). Lung meridian (Yin) and Large Intestine meridian (Yang). Kidney meridian (Yin) and Bladder meridian (Yang).

The 5 Elements Traditional Chinese Medicine places great emphasis on the internal balance of the 5 elements (namely, Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water). Each of the meridian pairs is related to a specific element within the body.
Wood: Liver and Gallbladder meridians. Fire: Heart, Circulation, Small intestine and Triple Burner meridians. Earth: Stomach and Spleen/Pancreas meridians. Metal: Lung and Large Intestine meridians. Water: Kidney and Bladder meridians.

How does this relate to my health? Any imbalances in the 12 meridians and/or the 5 elements can result in the stagnation of Chi in the body and ultimately it might lead to disease. Numerous treatment modalities are known to release blockages and assist in the correct functioning and flow of energy through the meridians- these include, but are not limited to the following: acupuncture, acupressure, homoeopathy, traditional Chinese medicine, therapeutic reflexology, cupping and auricular therapy. Meridian based therapies have a gentle yet potent effect on the body and mind.
The meridian system of the human body is a delicate, yet sophisticated web of interconnecting energy lines. When one masters the understanding of this meridian system, one can begin to understand the secrets of the flow of Qi energy in the body.

For a long time, the publication was going to be under the auspice of The Spirit Dancer, an esoteric shop and apothecary owned by myself and Bianca Pieters. As the publication evolved into Intellectus Publications, the Cover of the Introductory Issue had to change. After some lengthy chats with my friends and family, I decided that I should be on the cover depicting the essence of the publication. [soooo completely out of my comfort zone – I dislike being in front of the camera and not one for the spot light!]. The day we did this photo shoot, it was raining and the room we had was too small. I am sure I was the worst model Terence had ever photographed. I didn’t like ANY of the photos – only because I was in it! This photo was the first on the reel – and after weeks of contemplation I decided that this was the perfect one…..with some of the amazing people who are making this dream a reality. Both Stella or Cindy weren’t initially thrilled with the idea but I NEEDED backup!

The Twelve Universal Laws There is nothing “new” about Universal Laws and Principles. They can be found in many ancient texts from around the world. The Universal Laws, also known as the Laws of Nature or Spiritual Laws, govern absolutely everything in all existence of time and space. Universal Law of Vibration The Law of Vibration states that absolutely everything that exists in our Universe consists of pure energy. Whether seen or unseen, when broken down into its purest most basic form, everything resonates and has a vibratory frequency and a pattern. All physical matter, thoughts and emotions has its own individual frequency. These vibrations will resonate with whatever vibrates at the same frequency. Our thoughts and emotional are intrinsically connected to the Universal and All That Is. As a result the thoughts and emotions we choose to focus on will attract things with the same frequency. “Like attracts Like”. The Keys to Success Understanding Abundance Abundance - this word has become part and parcel of many catch phrases in the current media. The mainstream market is flooded self-help books and DVDs to attract abundance. But what does is really mean? Is it all just about the fancy sports car, the big house and fat bank balance? Does material wealth really equate to happiness? Most people perceive a need of a stack of cash so that they can follow their dreams, but in reality, it is when you start following your authentic dreams that all the energy and resources necessary to develop and sustain those dreams are magically and bountifully supplied by the Universe. Aromatherapy Aromatherapy has its roots in many ancient healing practices. Thanks to modern research, we are now able to understand how aromatherapy works. Essential oils are what give plants their aroma. They are made up of complex organic compounds such as ketones, acetates, terpenes, esters, alcohols, aldehydes, phenols, etc. Essential oils are extracted from different parts of plants, largely dependent on the concentrated accumulation of the essential oil. Rosemary was often used in sick rooms to protect against infectious disease and as a fumigant. It is both invigorating and stimulating and a potent tool to aid mental focus and memory recall. The stimulating oil can ease pain and boost circulation. Rosemary is often used as a decongestant and can relieve headaches. It is an effective anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agent. Cast out distractions and awareness of the outer world and shift your focus inward. Imagine this passage of writing without any reference to colour? It would be a most bleak and boring passage to read. Colour adds so many dimensions to daily life, it has the power to lift a bad mood or help a person to keep calm. It is a powerful healer too.
How we see colour Colour is a subjective, visual sensation. Colour is reflected light. Upon contact it penetrates our eyes, sending signals to the brain. Colour stimulates an emotional and mental response, which our bodies record. Our brains, being the master of the bodily functions, then respond to the colour electrons, accepting or rejecting each sensation. Colour, therefore is a sensation of light.

Colour Health All things manifested in the universe have their own vibration. Likewise, each cell, organ, muscle and bone in the human body vibrates to a set frequency. If this frequency changes it causes disease. This change in frequency is usually caused by own bad choices, poor diet, unhealthy stressful lifestyle and negative mental thinking. 55 Colour Nutrition Through the correct choice of the right colour foods that colour can work directly every day in our lives to improve health and prevent disease. It is not by accident that foods are the colours that they are and that they contain parallel groups of chemicals and other substances essential for health. Warm colours; Red, Orange, Yellow; have an energizing and stimulating effect and are acidic in quality. While cool colours; Green and Blue are cooling and pacifying. These foods are alkaline by nature. Although man’s natural physiological tendency is to run from yellow to red, balance in his diet needs to be maintained by eating plenty fresh green fruit and vegetables, and some blue ones. Unsaturated oils, yeast, honey and fish have electromagnetic energy corresponding to the colour blue. Many studies have proven, eating too much red food raises one’s chances of heart diseases and illness related to high blood pressure. Eat these in moderation. The green foods balance the whole system. Its cleansing and harmonizing effect helps correct the blood circulation and helps the body eliminate toxins. We should all take responsibility for our well-being by working towards health, and not just prevention of disease. One of the main ways we can achieve this is by paying attention to our diet and eating habits.
Colour Minerals So what is it about crystals that have fascinated us for thousands of years? Is it their beauty or is there something more to these stones than we realise? 56 Colour Dress and Décor Wearing clothes of a certain colour is a statement about oneself and says more than we would like to about our self-esteem. The stronger and brighter the colour you choose to wear the more eye catching and attention you will get. You are making a strong statement. As sunlight falls on our clothes the colour acts as a filter on our skin, which is then absorbed into the tissues and cells. Different coloured light affects living tissue and will affect our metabolism and psyche. Wearing too much of any colour tells us that we have an energy imbalance. Each colour has positive and negative qualities; it is about finding the right balance for the individual personality. Colour in décor is just as important, as you are surrounded by these colours constantly. Just adding accessories in a room can change the atmosphere. As a general guideline use the following colours in the following rooms:
Bedrooms – pastel colours in peach, pinks, creams and apricots. Stay away from pale greens and blues as they can be too emotional for that room.
Bathrooms – blue, turquoise, pinks and warm beiges, these colours tend to make the skin appear healthier and glowing.
Dining rooms and kitchens – strong, bright colours in greens, yellows, blues and oranges. These colours stimulate conversation and create a warm family environment. Avoid using white as this colour can be sterile and it also causes people to eat and cook in a hurry.
Studies and home offices – these rooms need to be peaceful, but not cold. A soft warm yellow tone stimulates mental clarity. If the room is hot, blue-green colours will be restful and cooling. Warm colours will help creativity and self-expression.
Living rooms – these can be any colour harmonious to the occupants of the home, depending on the type of environment you want. For a peaceful relaxed atmosphere, use cool colours. For a warm and cosy atmosphere, use warm colours.
Children’s rooms – in small babies rooms use pastel and light colours. Colic and asthma can be helped with warm colours; while hyper-activity needs cooling soothing colours. Older children will be attracted to brighter colours if they are quite outgoing; while the introverted children would prefer softer light colours. Teenagers will often be attracted to red or black. Red represents their physical awakening and sexual energy. They are very active at this age. Black as a choice of colour simply means they are going through an identity crisis. Teenagers need a lot of support and love to get through adolescence; it is a most difficult time of change and upheaval.

Colour Personality Colours are the keys to our personality and have a profound effect on our moods and emotions. Your favourite or identity colour reflects your personality traits and self-image. We are unconsciously attracted and repelled by different colours we need at different stages of our life and when we have different emotional and mental needs. This is why we are attracted to different colours at different times. Generally people who like warm colours are extroverted in nature; while those who like cool colours have more introverted personalities. The colour we are most attracted to is our identity colour, which is in harmony with our inner colours.
Usually when we are attracted to a new colour we are going through a change in our life. The particular colour we are attracted to will give us a clue as to which area we are confronting in our life at the moment. Generally we gravitate to groups of colours, and usually have one or two favourites, which remain with us through life. The long-term attraction to certain colours can tell us a great deal about ourselves.

How to start your own organic vegetable garden The first step to ensuring a completely organic garden is finding organic seeds or starts. Even if these are not available in your area, your dedication to growing organic is admirable and worthwhile. Organic seeds may be purchased by mail order. If using starts, you may have to give in and buy the non-organic ones available in your local nursery, but ask around! Your backwoods or backward little town may surprise you. You will find that an organic vegetable garden is more sustainable in many ways. By avoiding the use of pesticides and herbicides you will maintain healthy soil for years of successful growing seasons. Because you have not indiscriminately eliminated living things from your land, these creatures will continue to thrive and to aid in your garden’s health.

Benefits of an organic vegetable garden Homegrown organic vegetables are not just good for your yard, they are good for you and your family. Would you feed your baby DDT? Would you feed your family any pesticide or herbicide for that matter? Of course not. The fact is that commercially grown nonorganic produce is coated in carcinogens and poisons that no human, especially a child, should ingest. By growing your own organic produce you can be sure of exactly what is going into your, and your family’s bodies. An organic vegetable garden means a garden free of synthetic chemicals. You will find, with minimal research, that all problems common to gardening: diseases, pests, weeds and soil problems, can be fixed naturally. These natural solutions are generally safer, cheaper, easier and on the whole, more pleasant than their commercial counterparts.
Critters are good for gardens You may want to pair your garden with some animals. Cows, sheep and goats can provide natural crop weeding, pest control and fertilizer. If you keep chickens, their guano makes an excellent addition to your compost pile and they will eat the scraps that you do not put directly into the compost pile itself. Furthermore, you can build movable pens and let your chickens mow your lawn for you. If you have horses, or there are horses nearby, look into composted manure as a cheap and effective fertilizer.
Organic gardening is economical! While organic produce is sometimes more expensive in the grocery store, this does not mean that organic vegetables are more expensive to grow. You will find that organic gardening requires only naturally occurring, local items which are cheaper and easier to acquire than synthetic chemicals.

Actually, if it weren’t the for Mutable Signs, the other two types would probably kill each other. Mutable Signs are adaptable and usually willing to compromise. Calculating Your Numbers Your personal numbers are created by adding various aspects of your names and birth date together in different ways. In subsequent issues we will look at the many different number combinations and their meanings. The two we focus on in this issue are: 1. Life Path Number – your life journey, who you are from birth 2. Personal Number – what any given year has in store for you
Life Path Number The Life Path Number represents who are at birth and the personality traits you will carry with throughout your entire life. It is considered the most important of the numbers and describes the nature of your journey through life. The Life Path Number is calculated by adding all the numbers of your birth date together. So as an example, the birth date 23 October 1955 is calculated as follows: 2+3+1+0+1+9+5+5=26 Which is further reduced: 2+6=8 LIFE PATH NUMBER = 8

Personal Year Number The Personal Year Number allows you to glean what any given year has in store for you, and what concerns are most likely to occupy your mind and life for the duration of the year. Numerologists don’t all agree on when a personal year begins; some say on the 1st of January, other say on your birthday. It is up to you to decide which you think applies more to you. The Personal Year Number is calculated by adding the day and month of your birth to the number of the current year. PERSONAL YEAR 1 A NEW BEGINNING IN YOUR LIFE The current year is the beginning of a new nine year cycle for you. This is a time to clarify your goals and it is a time to act on them. Hard work may be necessary to get a new venture moving. This will be fairly easy for you to do because most of the problems and disappointments of the past will tend to disappear, leaving the way open for these new challenges. PERSONAL YEAR 2 DEVELOPMENT, COOPERATION & WAITING A personal year 2 is a “wait and see” time; a year when you will find yourself in the background and very much in a stage of development. This is not a time to force the issue and try to move forward. It is a time for cooperation and building relationships that will benefit you in the future; a year for accumulating and collecting. Aggressiveness will cause problems now. You must be prepared for delays, detours, stoppages and you must be patient.
This is a time of small contribution, of helping, and details must be taken care of when they come up. You may give time and effort to further another’s work. This year may be a test to your self-control and emotional abilities. You may experience a degree of nervous tension during this period; the 2 year brings a tendency to emotional extremes including depression. PERSONAL YEAR 3 SOCIAL EXPRESSION & CREATIVE SUCCESS The personal year 3 is a social, happy year, and it generally tends to exude bright and cheerful vibrations. This is a year when you will want to check up on old friends and broaden your social circle to include some new ones. Romance and love affairs may bloom. You are inclined to live life to its fullest now, even if have to pay the consequences later on. You are likely to be more sociable and the bridle of responsibility will seem to be loosened a bit. You are inclined to scatter your energies and undertake too many things at the same time. You can safely take some time off to enjoy yourself, but resist the temptation to completely give in to having a good time; keep your goals in mind.
A 3 personal year is a good time to expand personal creative talents, particularly those related to the arts and verbal skill. Recognition in this regard is likely this year. While this can be a happy year as far as personal expression and activities are concerned, it may be a disastrous year on the business scene. A generally frivolous attitude in that environment can cause rash decisions and impractical, unfinished schemes. This is not likely to be a very good year for your finances, and it is fortunate that the next year is designed to compensate these effects.
PERSONAL YEAR 4 HARD WORK & SLOW BUT STEADY PROGRESS A personal year 4 brings an end to the frivolity of the previous year, as the facts of life are now clearly spelled out. This is a year of hard work and effort when one must knuckle down to the task at hand. A year of digging in and hoeing, a reestablishment of self-control. It many ways, however, it is a frustrating year, when considerable effort fails to produce dramatic results. One step forward and two steps back may seem to be the case most of the time.
