CET Designer User Kelly Olson had a little fun with the September 2013 rendering — showing how an office looks neat and tidy (the left side) ‌ and a little bit messier in real life (the right side)! Kelly is an interior designer with Business Furnishings, a Steelcase dealership in South Bend, Ind.

Tips Calculation View The Calculation View has many different tools for manipulating the parts list and preparing an order. Open the Calculation View by clicking on the price in the upper-right corner of the main 2D/3D screen of CET Designer. Some hints … ❯  Use the Columns tab in the View Settings to turn columns off and on. This action lets you create a custom Article Views based on the audience and information required. ❯  To add a new Article View, click on the paper icon that says “Create New View.” ❯  Rename Article View tabs to be more descriptive. Instead of Article View 1, Article View 2, etc., it could say “Installer,” “Customer,” etc. ❯  The custom column sorts can be saved as Caclulation Screen Setting (.cmclc file) for future use in the View Settings window with Save/Load. You can also save a certain setting as the default. Use the Grouping tab in View Settings window to group or subsection your calculation by Tagged Area, Catalog, Manufacturer, etc. ❯  Use the Filter tab in View Settings window to filter product in or out based on Tagged Area, Catalog, etc., for phased installations or simple orders. ❯  Use the Sorting tab in View Settings to sort the lines based on any column. This action gives that column a number with a hierarchy of the sort. For example, you can first do a sort based on List Price, with a secondary sort based on Description. ❯  Move columns left or right in the Article View by clicking the up/down arrow in the Column tab in the View Settings of each Article View. ❯  Move lines up and down in an Article View by selecting line(s) and moving them in the Manual Sort column. (That column needs to be on to activate this feature.) ❯  Create an Article View for a punch list or small orders by double-clicking on a part in another Article View. That puts that item(s) in a new Article View. ❯  Create a .sif file for ordering out of the Article View you are in by choosing File/Order Export in the pull-down menu at the top of the Calculation Dialog screen. ❯  The Article View can easily be copied to paste into Excel or other documents using the pull-down Edit/Copy All Cells and then Paste in the other program. ❯  Click on the Line Number in an Article View, and that part(s) will highlight in 2D and 3D view in the drawing. The opposite is also true: If you highlight a part in your drawing, it is highlighted in your Article View.

Meet Kelly Olson, CET Designer User

Åsa Hilmersson, Employee of the Month

Interior Designer Kelly Olson with Business Furnishings, a Steelcase dealer in South Bend, Ind., likes the time-saving features in CET Designer – the pre-set schemes, the ease of configuring segmented panels and revising drawings, and click-of-a-button elevations.

A native of Sweden, Åsa Hilmersson spent the last five years in New Jersey pursuing a bachelor’s degree and then working as a writer and designer. Configura recently hired Åsa, fluent in both Swedish and English, to work in the marketing department at company headquarters in Linköping, Sweden.

She was one of the early users of CET Designer: “I was privileged to be a part of the Dealer Design Advisory Group for CET Designer beta five years ago. It’s become a really impressive tool, so much so that we are now in transition to use CET Designer as our main drawing and specification program,” Kelly said. Business Furnishings has had several record-breaking sales. Customers are impressed by CET Designer, which helps in the sales process. “The renderings really help our clients to get a thorough understanding of their layout and finishes,” she said. Kelly holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and an associate’s degree in design. Her life-long love for crafting and creativity led her to pursue interior design as a career. ”We work with some great customers, and I’m grateful to build relationships with them,” she said. In her home, she favors an eclectic style, and prefers DIY (Do It Yourself) projects to buying items ready-made.

What do you like about the company? The culture. I think the company has an amazing atmosphere that I haven’t seen in many other places. EVERYONE is nice – that never happens! And everyone is motivated and really working hard, trying to do their best for the company. I think this is reflected partly because of the passion from the founders and managers but also because people trust your ability and encourage ideas. What do you like best about your work? The wide variety of assignments and the endless possibilities of where you can go with an idea. Everyone is very open to new ideas because we constantly want to improve and move forward. I also love that I get to mix writing with graphic design and a little bit of web design. Any family, pets, hobbies, fun tidbits about yourself? My boyfriend Adam is American. He will start a master’s program at Linköping University this fall. We live only a three-minute bike ride from my parents, which is very convenient whenever we need to borrow a car!
