Dear guests It is a great pleasure to be able to write to you as new Director of the hotel. I have had a special fascination for the InteralpenHotel Tyrol, since my first visit many years ago. Our extraordinary and exclusive location in the Tirolean Alps, the extensive Spa and wellbeing facilities, the superb, award-winning cuisine and the fantastic team have truly inspired me. We will work together to preserve all that is outstanding about the hotel, but remain open to innovation, to continuously improve our services and offer you the most memorable holiday possible. In this edition of the Interalpen Magazine we present some new and exclusive spaces where you can relax and be comfortable: the ground floor of the Karwendel wing is about to be extensively renovated and will be home to Salon Bellevue, Caf辿 Wien and our Smoking Lounge.

from Einspänner to Wiener Melange and sweet treats such as Apfelstrudel and Sachertorte. There’s an old school, British gentlemen’s club feel to the newly created Smoking Lounge: dark wood, forest green Chesterfield sofas and herringbone parquet complete the look. We offer a wide selection of fine whiskies and rums and an attractive menu for cigar lovers with a focus on the best exports from Cuba (Cohiba, Montecristo, Partagas) and the Dominican Republic (Davidoff). Our cigar expert will be pleased to advise on your selection and we also offer private humidors for especially dedicated cigar smokers. To complement the comfortable leather furniture, the Smoking Lounge offers a fireplace, a large flat screen TV and a table at which you can sit and chat, read or smoke your cigar in peace. Naturally, the Smoking Lounge is equipped with a new, highly efficient ventilation system to ensure a pleasant atmosphere.

Ambience is everything in our new venues.

Activities

Winter season at the Interalpen-Hotel Tyrol

Fun in the snow! Winter’s first snowfall is a much anticipated event. Because this glittering white blanket not only makes the Tirol picturebook perfect, but gives our guests so many different ways to enjoy some sports and activity.

When the ‘white magic’ coats treetops and mountain slopes, it’s time to head outside into the pristine landscape. The mountains around the Interalpen-Hotel Tyrol are a dream for skiers. There is a 260 km network of signposted cross-country skiing trails on Seefeld’s high plateau. You can join the trail right at the hotel’s front door, glide through sparkling, winterwhite landscapes and enjoy magnificent views. Downhill skiers can also look forward to a great choice of pistes. Seefeld is home to Gschwandtkopf and Rosshütte ski regions and there are other attractive skiing centres in close proximity. Those who prefer their winter sports fun on runners can take to the pistes on a toboggan. An excursion to the toboggan run at Gaistal or Strassberghaus makes an unforgettable day out for both adults and children. If you prefer a quieter life, the hotel has its own ice rink where you can skate or try your hand at curling. Ski equipment, toboggans, skates and curling stones are available from the hotel’s hire shop. Keen hikers don’t let winter discourage them from enjoying the Tirol’s mountain world. Equipped with snowshoes, our experienced mountain

guide takes groups along snow-covered trails to picturesque corners and magnificent viewing points. Whether snuggled up by a roaring fire or enjoying a night time ramble by torchlight, winter at the Interalpen-Hotel Tyrol is a perfect season for great romantics. For a truly fairytale experience, we recommend a carriage ride, where gentle-natured Haflinger horses lead you through the peaceful winter idyll. You can snuggle up in a blanket and savour the pristine natural scenery and clear mountain air.

Time to make tracks! With breathtaking views and trails offering a variety of sporting challenges, the Seefeld Olympia Region is one of the most popular cross-country skiing regions in the world.

For more action and a taste of wilderness adventure, why not take a trip with a sled and pack of huskies. You will explore the Tirolean Alps at nearly 20 kph, and really connect with the natural world.

There are plenty of opportunities for day excursions in winter too. Seefeld is a popular destination, with its traditional weekend Christmas market of festive wooden stalls offering Glühwein and roast chestnuts. Innsbruck is also worth a visit, with no less than five different Christmas markets to explore in the lovely medieval old town quarter. From there it’s just a short hop to Wattens and Swarovski Crystal Worlds. Discover this treasurehouse of gems which sparkle and glitter to rival the snow crystals in the Tirolean Alps.

Gastronomy

An Austrian speciality to try at home

A recipe for 6 people

Plum dumplings with chestnut crème Our head chef Christoph Zangerl and our sommelier Andreas Pfingstl present a magnificent Tirolean dessert and an equally delicious liqueur. Tiroler Gröstl (meat and potato hash), Schlutzkrapfen (cream cheese ravioli), Speck (air-dried ham) and Knödel (dumplings) in endless variety are just some of the region’s most famous specialities, which promise real pleasures of the palate. But when our head chef Christoph Zangerl, who has been awarded 3 Gault Millau ‘toques’, turns his attention to trad itional Tirolean cuisine, you can be sure of particularly refined creations and unique taste sensations. “I am

a great lover of Tirolean cooking, so regional dishes prepared with seasonal ingredients always feature on our menus” says Zangerl. He can be sure that produce from the Tirol will provide the best in freshness, quality and flavour and ultimately, top quality ingredients are at the heart of his award-winning culinary art. “One of my favourite traditional dishes is plum dumplings. And when served with chestnut crème and walnut croquant ice cream they taste just fantastic.”

Heat the milk and cream. Whisk the eggs yolks and sugar, add to the almost boiling milk mixture and whisk over a gentle heat until the custard is slightly thickened. You can test if it is done by dipping a wooden spoon into the mixture then blowing on the back of the spoon. If wavy lines appear, the custard is perfect. Walnut croquant 10 g butter, 10 g honey, 30 g cane sugar, 15 g cream, vanilla sugar, 200 g walnuts Bring the ingredients to the boil; add the walnuts and leave to cool. Freeze the ice cream base then add the caramelised walnuts. Beerengarten with its notes of cloves and cinnamon is a regional classic. This is a perfect way to finish an exquisite dinner.” We wish you bon appétit.

Our Alm and Salt saunas have been completely renovated and now meet the highest standards of design and technology. The Interalpen-Hotel Tyrol’s sauna masters are particularly proud of the salt sauna: illuminated salt bricks on the walls store up energy over several hours and release infrared heat. Time spent in this sauna promotes relaxation, improves your well being and strengthens your immune system. The Alm sauna is a Finnish sauna in classical sense: maintained at temperatures of 95 –100 °C it is ideal for “pouring ceremonies”. In addition to a state of the art ventilation system, two windows provide fresh mountain air and an excellent oxygen supply.

The moderate temperatures of the Bio sauna are ideal for your first experience of a sauna, to allow your body to acclimatise to the beneficial heat. The two steam baths (herbal steam bath and a precious stone grotto) maintain a more moderate temperature than the saunas and the humid air soothes your airways.

The sauna village has several other places where you can enjoy some pleasant heat. The highlights include a Tirolean bake house, where the aroma
