Rob Perrée (fev 2008) About Lego Lima When Lego Lima (1969) moved from Brazil to the Netherlands more than fifteen years ago, she left the black-and-white graphics behind and started experimenting with colors and large formats. That seems like a simple observation, the dry representation of an artistic development, but I cannot escape the impression that, consciously or unconsciously, she has searched for a form to bring the warmth of her motherland into her new, more distant place of residence and residence. A functional contrast. The un-Dutch became one of the qualities of her work.

Lima has received her art degree in Ouro Preto, Brazil. She has been trained in all art disciplines and has been practicing for a long time. Furthermore, she has chosen the graphic art. She believes that it is a more democratic way of art as she can

In 1992 Lego Lima moved to the Netherlands. Almost from the start, Lego sought its way into the Dutch art world. She quickly found a studio space in the Amsterdam Grafisch Atelier (AGA), which had high production, and visited all the major Dutch – but also Belgian, British, and French – museums. One of the main changes in her work was the use of color; the sizes also became larger. In the Netherlands, Lego increasingly experimented with the boundaries of graphics. This led to working in (big) formats that are unusual for graphics, integrating graphics and other techniques, and playing with form, for example through the use of repetition.

GIGANT ARTWORKS ROBUST FULL OF POWER & EMOTION The strong lines continued to berecognizablyy dominant in Lego's work; a special sense of color was added. Lego's graphics increasingly took on a monumental quality.

Rob Perrée

Lego Lima prefers to work figuratively, but she is not bothered by reality. What is striking is that her human figures either have no environment or an environment of (abstract) shapes. They are often surrounded by a white area or by an area in which one color dominates. They cannot be located. In that sense they have universal validity.

Rob Perrée

The images themselves aren’t necessarily realistic. They are depicted in broad strokes. They don't get lost in details. Rob Perrée

The images don't get lost in details. That could mean that they are shapes rather than characters, but that is not the case. The artist exaggerates those parts of the body that can tell something about the character or occupation of the person or that can express the mood in which that person is. Rob Perrée

LEGO LIMA

Lego Lima is a people person. Her portraits often feature female figures. That sounds like a statement. Without wanting to call her a feminist, it seems that she wants to correct the image that many men have of women. She seems to want to bring back sensitivity and grace.

Rob Perrée

That may explain why she bends the heads of many female figures backwards in an unnatural but elegant and moving way Rob Perrée

She has experimented several times with photographically transferring her works onto a large tarpaulin that could be attached to a facade outside, for example. She certainly plans to continue in this regard. That characterizes her

The interplay of lines whimsical, unexpected, playful and very original is the trademark of Lego Lima. From these lines, Lego's engravings derive their dynamism and mobility and their wonderful, robust beauty
