WELCOME BASHAR BADARNEH Chief Concierge
On behalf of the Concierge Desk, I’d like to welcome you to InterContinental Jordan Hotel. Amman, the capital of Jordan, is a fascinating city of contrasts – a unique blend of old and new, ideally situated on a hilly area between the desert and the fertile Jordan Valley. In the commercial heart of the city, ultra-modern buildings, hotels, smart restaurants, art galleries and boutiques rub shoulders comfortably with traditional coffee shops and tiny artisans' workshops. Everywhere there is evidence of the city's much older past. A perfect day in Amman starts with breakfast followed by a trip to the Citadel, Roman Theatre and downtown. Sitting on the highest hill in Amman, Jebel al-Qala’a, is the ancient Citadel dating back to the Bronze Age. The Roman Theatre carved into the northern side of the hill dates back to Roman Philadelphia and offers superb views for photography during early morning and dusk. Downtown Amman, known as al-Balad, is the heart of Amman. Made up of traditional markets, or souqs, al-Balad is where you can shop for authentic souvenirs, antiques, fabrics, accessories and more. Our Concierge Team is always at your disposal. Please contact me if you need any assistance or additional recommendations.

A HOTEL IS BORN BASHAR BADARNEH Chief Concierge
Back in the 1950’s, establishing an international five star hotel in Amman was a far-fetched idea. With the support of the Jordanian government, backed by the encouragement of HM King Hussein bin Talal, this ambitious idea for a newly-booming capital became a reality. In March 1963, HM King Hussein and all the well-known figures in Amman business and society attended the official opening of what was first called Jordan Hotel, and then acquired the title InterContinental Jordan. InterContinental Jordan was not only the ideal place for officials and business travelers, but its aim was also to offer top-class accommodation, along with the associated services expected of a five-star hotel, as guests are used to in other world capitals.

CHASING THE STORY BASHAR BADARNEH Chief Concierge
Whatever the occasion, the world’s media have always insisted on staying at InterContinental Jordan. Since the Middle East was quite eventful for the past five decades, journalists from around the globe have found their way to Amman, either to cover a breaking story in Jordan, or in transit to cover events in the wider region. Most acknowledge that the hotel was considered a second home, especially with the luxurious services and facilities, as well as a welcoming bar, good food, and the famous pool. Not only that, but the hotel quickly became the natural home for local journalists as well. It was always the location of choice for press conferences, briefings and note swapping. Over the decades, InterContinental Jordan has regularly recognized the work of the local journalists with an annual Iftar banquet for members of the Jordan Press Association, press awards and other media events. Local and international media covered both turbulent events and exciting events. All of which were unforgettable memories for everyone involved.

HOW WE HAVE GROWN
BASHAR BADARNEH Chief Concierge
Back in the 1960’s, InterContinental Jordan, with its 110 rooms, was one of the country’s ambitious projects. Later on, it was evident that the hotel could no longer cope with the rapidly growing demands from business, official visitors, and tourists. Therefore, 95 rooms were added back in the 1970’s. Expansions were a common theme throughout the decades at InterContinental Jordan. In 1981, 176 rooms were added. And then in the late 1990’s, a 120-room expansion was underway. Fast forward to 2016, those regular expansions have encrusted that InterContinental Jordan is still the largest five-star hotel in Amman, with 440 rooms and suites. The changes over the years went beyond the addition of rooms. Regular renovation and upgrading work has reflected both changing fashion and the demand for new services. Revamping of rooms, major refurbishment of the pool and outdoor areas of the hotel. The hotel restaurants have regularly been refurbishment and the lobby and the ballroom have managed to acquire new styles while still retaining their character as essential features of the hotel.

THE HOTEL IN THE COMMUNITY
BASHAR BADARNEH Chief Concierge
Ramadan and Christmas at InterContinental Jordan have always been special occasions, and not only for the usual hotel patrons and staff. They are a time for the hotel to reach out to the community, a time to share these special moments with its less fortunate members, especially children. The Mabarrat Um Al Hussein Orphanage and the Holy Land Institute for the Deaf were early beneficiaries. They have been joined over the decades by a wide range of organizations including: Save the Children, Mother Teresa, Promise Welfare, the Queen Alia Fund for the Deaf, the King Hussein Cancer Center, the Family Kitchen, the Princess Taghrid Institute, and many more. Of the gala dinners and fashion parades held at the hotel, a great number have been fund-raisers for charity. As well as helping charities directly, during Ramadan InterContinental Jordan joins its sister IHG hotels in Jordan to distribute up to 1,000 boxes of food to families in need.
