We are changing the way our IHG Rewards Club members earn points at InterContinental Manila and all InterContinental Hotels and Resorts around the world. Starting July 1, 2014, members will earn points based on the full folio spend for their stay. This means the standard calculation for points will be ten points per one US dollar for two airline miles per one US dollar spent, for participating airlines based on their full-folio spend. So, in addition to staying at an InterContinental hotel, members can now earn IHG Rewards Club points or airline miles through all eligible charges to the room, including: food and beverage, telephone, laundry and in-room movies. HOTEL NEWS INTERCONTINENTAL MANILA WON “CELEBRATE SERVICE WEEK” CLUSTER VIDEO COMPETITION In celebration of the week-long global campaign of Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) Celebrate Service Week commencing last June 9, 2014, IHG Philippine cluster comprising of InterContinental Manila, Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria, Holiday Inn & Suites given an opportunity to showcase their creative take on being BrandHearted with a video presentation. The winning video will receive Php 12,000 with the second and third placers will receive Php 8,000 and Php 5,000 respectively. Garnering a score of 92% from IHG colleagues in Singapore (Judges are Mr. Amran Samsudin, Chia Yee Tang, Michael Blanding, and Terri Fynch). Intercontinental Manila was voted the best presentation with “Piliin mo ang Pilipinas” video, directed by the hotel’s very own, Bon Villanueva from the Sales & Marketing department. The video featured InterContinental Manila and Holiday Inn & Suites Makati employees, showed the story of five childhood friends growing up and eventually reunited at present time. In second place was Holiday Inn Clark with 81% and third place to Holiday Inn Manila Galleria and tourist destinations, unique Filipino culture and tradition, and the two IHG hotel properties in Makati. Truly it has been an immense honor to win and to be able to show how Intercontinental Manila mirrors the beauty and hospitality of Filipinos.
INTERCONTINENTAL MANILA JOINS IHG WORLDWIDE IN CELEBRATING SERVICE WEEK Every year, Intercontinental Hotels Group honors more than 350,000 IHG corporate and franchise employees through its global campaign, “Celebrate Service Week”. Its purpose is to show and acknowledge the outstanding work of the people working in the different IHG hotels around the world. The Philippine cluster celebration starts with an event at Holiday Inn Clark, wherein InterContinental Manila was awarded for “Best Video Presentation”. On the week of June 9, 2014, InterContinental Manila joins the campaign with exciting activities set each day for the whole week. The employees’ entrance decked in festive decorations of balloons and banners, to ensure that everyone will have a grand time. Myriad of activities for Intercontinental Manila started with a week-long bazaar of clothes, jewelries and bags, made available for employees’ shopping pleasure at the cafeteria. Pocket activities were also provided at the leisure of everyone’s time which included 15-minute massage, a beauty workshop for ladies wherein they were taught the basic make-up application and skin care by renowned cosmetic company, Tony Moly, and a Zumba Fitness class for dance enthusiasts. To give employees a chance to simply sit back and relax, a movie house was set with unlimited iced tea and snacks. Captain America, Winter Soldier (a Marvel Hero movie), and Starting Over Again (a blockbuster Filipino comedy-drama) were shown. The Intercontinental Manila’s Shining Moment, a monthly HR initiative to recognize employee achievements and activities every month was held Wednesday, June 11 at the Constellation room. Employee recognition included AMEA Leadership Award for Ms. Maricor Aquino, Area Director of Sales and Marketing and Mr. Feliciano Ocop of Security, one of the five awardees of AMEA Celebrate Service Week Story.
HOTEL NEWS INTERCONTINENTAL MANILA SHOWCASE PROWESS AT SIAL-MAFBEX 2014 InterContinental Manila showcased pastry prowess through a cooking demonstration at Salon International d l’Agrolimentaire (SIAL), organized by Manila Food and Beverage Expo 2014 organizers last June 13 at World Trade Center. Executive Pastr y Chef Darmo Guevarra headed the team with Demi Chef de Par tie Richelle Cheong, and Assistant Pastry Chef Bobot Lindayag, who assisted in presenting a step-by-step procedure in making White Chocolate Mango/Basil Etemet. The team provided a pass-around sample of chocolate sponge and praline croquantine which were part of the multi-layer baby cake. The audience asked baking tips which Chef Cheong responded with a demonstration of creating piping bags, how to do color combinations, and pastry garnishing. The crowd waited for the final touches of the cake which is a layer of basil white choco mousse, mango cremeux, chocolate sponge, almond sponge, and praline croquantine, topped with chocolate square, brandy snaps, mango julienne, and pieces of 24k carat edible Gold Leaf.

INSIDER GUIDE BOCAUE RIVER FESTIVAL JULY 6 The Bocaue River festival or more popularly known as Pagoda Festival is held every first Sunday of July in honor of the Holy Cross of Wawa. The main attraction of the fluvial procession of the beautifully decorated flower-decked Pagodas (small boats) which hundreds of devotees flock to ride on, douse each other with water and pay homage.
JESSIE J LIVE IN MANILA JULY 14 British singer-songwriter and the Voice UK coach, Jessie J will flying to Manila for a one-night only concert at Smart-Araneta Coliseum on July 14 to promote her latest album “Alive”. The singer is known for her mega-hit single “Price Tag”.
SAULOG IN TANJAY FESTIVAL JULY 25 The Saulog sa Tanjay is a colorful celebration in honor of St. James the Greater. It is held yearly on the 24th of July before the fiesta celebration. The festivities feature colorful street dancing parade and the famous “Paaway sa Kabayo” (Fight of the Horses) where a thrilling fight for supremacy among studs over a female horse.
