HOTEL NEWS INTERCONTINENTAL MANILA ACED FIRE SAFETY AWARDS InterContinental Manila grand slammed three highest distinctions awards at the recently held Seventeenth 2015 Annual Fire Safety Compliance Awards Program at Makati City Hall. Consistent for fourteen years, InterContinental Manila bagged the soughtafter 7-Star Award of Distinction for Fire Safety Compliance for meeting all requirements of the Fire and National Building Code of the Philippines. For effectiveness and readiness to respond during fire emergencies as measured through brigade procedures and report, the hotel likewise received a 7-star for Building Fire Brigade Award for twelve consecutive years. The Annual Fire Safety Compliance Awards Program is joint project of the city of Makati, Makati Fires Safety Foundation, Inc. (MAFSAFI), Rotary Club of Makati, Makati Commercial Estate Association, Inc. and the Bureau of Fire Protection-Makati which aims to measure compliance of Makati establishments in Fire and Building Code of the Philippines.
HOTEL NEWS FIRST AID AND BASIC LIFE SUPPORTAND BOMB AWARENESS TRAINING (APRIL 8) In line with continuous effort of the hotel’s management to promote safety to guests and employees. The InterContinental Manila team held two important safety trainings this April. The Bomb-awareness training last April 6 and 8 was initiated by the hotel’s security department, inviting Mr. Juanito Rabanal Jr., a bomb specialist from Makati bomb disposal unit to be the head instructor. A two-day training on First Aid and Basic Life Support was also conducted last April 16 and April 17 which was headed by Roxanne Patriarca and Ariel Doza, first aid and basic life support instructors from Philippine Red Cross.

INSIDER GUIDE FLORES DE MAYO The Flores de Mayo, also called Santacruzan, is a month-long celebration in commemoration of St. Helena’s discovery of the cross and in honor of the Virgin Mary. Preceded by a nineday Novena, the celebration is usually done on the ninth day where a parade of sagalas (ladies in gown) would walk under decorated arches. These colorful sagalas represent different biblical character or attributes of the Blessed Virgin Mary. A Reina Elena accompanied by a little boy representing Constantine is usually the highlight of the parade.
PAHIYAS FESTIVAL MAY 15 Pahiyas Festival is an annual religious celebration every May 15 in commemoration of the patron saint of farmers, San Isidro Labrador. Locals from Lucban, Quezon deck their houses with colorful Kiping (a décor from rice flour) accented with harvested vegetables, plants, and fruits. Aside from the beautifully decorated houses, tourists often flock Quezon during this time to witness the parade of carabaos and enjoy the local trade fair known as “Tiyangge sa Lucban”.
