Who is Ed Stafford? Stafford's adventures: He was born in 26 December 1975 in Peterborought. He is a English explorer and former British army captain. He became the first person to walk the entire lenght of the Amazon River. Because this made him be awarded the Guinness World Record. Ed Stafford is a Lecestershire lad who after completing his education won a prestigious place at the Royal Military Sandhurstand Academy became commisioned officer in 1999. He went on to command platoons in the Devonshire and Dorset Regiment. Later Ed Stafford left the army he then worked as a UN contractor in Afghanistan. Returning to expeditions, Stafford took a new challenge consisting of organising extreme cold weather expeditions in Patagonian. In 2002 he gave up the British Army for he began to be the leader of some environmental projects around the world. His dream was to be the first person to walk the entire lenght of the Amazon. In 2010 Ed Stafford became the first person to walk the entire lenght of the Amazon. Starting at its source in southern Peru and arriving at the Atlantic ocean two and a half years later, he walked over 6000 miles. Peruvian forestry workerGadiel "Cho" Sanchez Rivera decided to make the journey with Stafford to the Atlantic. He spent alone on Olorua 60 days, an island in the South Pacific. The idea was to strip out any outside help. Ed Stafford will must to see if he could survive for two months equipped with nothing but the video cameras he would use to film himself.
In a interview Ed Stafford talked about his experience in Olorua when he was alone in this island. He had to learn to make fire by friction, with pieces of wood. He learned how to make a stone axe and a bow-and-arrow. The first day he found a cave to sleep, somes snails to eat and coconuts to drink. The hardest for him was to fight dehidratation.
