Jiang Qiong Er, celebrated for her fusion of Chinese tradition and contemporary design, brings her unique vision to Roche Bobois with the Bamboo Mood collection. Born into a family of artists, Qiong Er skillfully weaves cultural heritage into her creations. Colorways of coral, representing joy, and celadon, a tribute to ancient Chinese porcelain, bring a playful quality to her soft, plump sofas and armchairs. Bamboo, a symbol of integrity and resilience in Chinese culture, is artfully reinterpreted in rugs and perforated screens. “Bamboo bends but does not break,” she notes. “It whispers, trembles, filters the light, and plays with shadow. It may seem fragile, yet it provides scaffolding for the world’s tallest skyscrapers.” The atmosphere evoked is ever so poetic. roche-bobois.com 30

“Pierre Guariche’s cabinetry, seats, lamps, and public spaces are so far ahead of their time. It’s hard to fathom that most were designed at the dawn of the 1960s”
Pierre Guariche, a visionary of midcentury French design, is deservedly fêted with a reissue of his works from the 1950s to ’70s. Known for his innovative use of materials like molded plywood and perforated metals and for his forward-thinking ergonomic shapes, Guariche mastered the balance of beauty and practicality. Pieces from the sculptural Tonneau chair to his Vallée Blanche chaise longue are now reproduced by Ligne Roset with the same attention to detail as the modernist originals. Showcasing Guariche’s spirit of lightness and material economy are the Prefacto low table, with curvaceous bean-shaped stained solid-beech top and black-lacquered steel base; the G10 sofa and chair, with swooping ash-veneered molded-plywood arms; and his 1951-hatched Papyrus chair, one of the first-ever plywood seats, available with or without upholstery and sculptural stained-beech armrests. ligne-roset.com

PILLOW
klein agency The Los Angeles–based firm founded by husband-wife design duo Jon and Maša Kleinhample unveils a fresh series of sleek, minimalist pieces, two of which spotlight a streamlined laser-cut sheet-aluminum frame. First up is the cosseting Marshmallow lounge with optional ottoman, which wraps users in a grid of leather cushions (also available in COM or COL) and swivels a full 360 degrees. The perch is suited to any residential or commercial setting—picture it in a record label’s listening room for chill vibes. Also new is the aptly named Pillow sofa, which is just as comforting as it sounds. Designed to both handle small children and deliver high style, its overstuffed cushions sit atop a sturdy but simple-to-assemble waxed-aluminum frame, its modules attached via clever black pins that double as feet. Available standard in Raf Simons’s Ria or Atom wool-nylon for Kvadrat (or, for alfresco environments, Sunbrella Heritage), the sofa can be specified in various configurations, from straight-run four-seater to L-shape scenarios. Each piece is crafted to order in L.A. klein.agency

molteni&c Molteni Group president Carlo Molteni reflects on the company’s 90 years of activity: “In studying our history, we realized it coincides with that of Italian design at large,” he muses. Celebrating that illustrious, intertwined heritage is a just-released monograph from Rizzoli New York. Molteni Mondo: An Italian Design Story offers an overview of the brand’s collaborations with designers (Ron Gilad, Tobia Scarpa, Jean Nouvel, and Patricia Urquiola, to name a few), its production processes, and its evolving identity as a family-owned business with a supersized global presence. Coinciding with the book launch are some notable furniture reissues, like Gio Ponti’s sculptural Continuum armchair from 1963 (produced in partnership with rattan expert Bonacina) and curved Due Foglie (Two Leaves), a loveseat originally commissioned for Ponti’s Villa Planchart in Caracas, Venezuela. molteni.it

LUKE PEARSON, TOM LLOYD
teknion
Aarea by Pearson Lloyd isn’t just a task chair; it’s a masterclass in making circularity and ergonomics cool. Fabricated from just five core components—a tubular-steel frame, a back 3D-knitted of recycled ocean plastic, recycled-plastic arm pads, an upholstered seat cushion, and a recycled-aluminum base—Aarea showcases minimalist design with impact. It took two years to develop the knit back, which adapts to any figure courtesy of elastomeric fibers that flex yet keep their shape without sagging over time. (A die-cast top section provides additional head support.) The modular design allows parts to be replaced as they wear out. And when Aarea’s time is up, the user can recycle each component. In all, the chair elevates the workspace—and, indeed, the conversation around sustainable design. Who knew saving the planet could look—and feel—this good? teknion.com

Resembling a lively tangle of pressed flowers, Late Spring, a wallcovering by Thatcher Studio designer Lindsay Jordan Kretchun, eschews realism in favor of gorgeous hand-painted expressionism, celebrating silhouetted flora in full bloom. “The pattern is uncomplicated, with an almost lyrical configuration,” Kretchun notes. “Kieffer fabrics unfold step by step, in a gradual, sensitive, and ultimately intimate process”
Rubelli creative directors Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin have been tasked with reinventing Kieffer, a sub-brand the heritage textile house acquired in 2001, for contemporary tastes. The pair’s Untitled II is a range of experimental fabrics and curtains made on the company’s state-of-the-art looms in Como, Italy. The designers—who are also the cofounders of Formafantasma Studio— focused on artistic processes and raw materials like wool, silk, jute, and recycled cotton. “Pumice has the supple feel of a leather that can live on outdoor furniture, but also the quality and endurance of a luxury marine fabric”
CLAY ROSENBERG, DANIELLE BOECKER-PRIMACK
PUMICE
Ahoy there! Eight new coastal-inspired hues expand the Pumice indoor/outdoor collection to a total of 16 shades. Engineered with recycled polyester—each linear yard repurposes approximately eight plastic bottles—and responsibly sourced rayon, Pumice blends sustainability with high performance. It boasts EPA-registered antimildew, antimicrobial, and antibacterial properties, is colorfast to sunlight, chlorine, and seawater, and achieves a luxurious leather-like texture while delivering industryleading durability at 400,000 Wyzenbeek double rubs. “We’ve always offered global leadership in luxury marine performance fabrics, from mega yachts to smaller recreational watercraft,” note company cofounders Clay Rosenberg and Danielle Boecker-Primack, who are celebrating 25 years in business. “And now we can offer that technology to hospitality and residential design specifiers.” ultrafabricsinc.com

“The original patterns are so beautiful and intricate. It’s astonishing to think they’d been tucked away and forgotten for all those years”
farrow & ball The brand unveils The Purnon Papers, a wallpaper collection inspired by patterns unearthed at the historic Château de Purnon, a grand 18th-century home in France’s Loire Valley that had fallen into disrepair until recently, when Australian couple Felicity Selkirk and Tim Holding bought it to rehab. The five designs range from intricate florals to ornate damasks, all available in five colorways. Using traditional techniques like roller block and flatbed printing, Farrow & Ball applies real paint (the brand’s own, natch) to create wallpapers that replicate the texture, depth, and feel of the original designs. “It was like discovering a treasure trove,” the company’s creative director, Charlotte Cosby, recalls of visiting the property for the first time. “We revised elements like color and scale to make the patterns feel as relevant today as they were a hundred years ago.” farrow-ball.com

MARGRETHE ODGAARD
kvadrat
Danish textile artist Margrethe Odgaard is a color alchemist. The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts alum uses a mind-map of words, forms, and materials to convey her personal design language and has catalogued 276 hues into a tome called Shades of Light. “All of us experience color differently,” explains Odgaard, who explores the sensory and emotional impact of various tones using white “action” cards and black “emotion” cards at Kvadrat’s Salone del Mobile installation, #coloureffects. There, Odgaard also debuted Re-wool 2, an expansion of her original Re-wool palette to include 14 rich tones inspired by Scandinavia’s fleeting sunlight—rusty reds, verdant greens, bright blues—in fabric made of 45 percent recycled wool from Kvadrat’s own postindustrial fiber scraps. “The refreshed palette adds a breadth of tempo,” Odgaard says. “It offers slow colors with built-in longevity as well as energy-shaping, cheeky hues.” kvadrat.dk
“While many colors in Re-wool are toned down, for Re-wool 2 I dared to celebrate the undefined mélange tones of the recycledwool warp by combining it with bolder shades in the weft”

fabric & wall covering ATOLL EMPYREAN
While swimming in the Maldives, Eskayel founder Shanan Campanaro became captivated by the underwater landscape. Back on dry land, she replicated that lively tableau of marine life, with its glistening schools of fish and drifting seaweed, from memory using her signature watercolor paints. That artwork eventually became Atoll, Eskayel’s first printed-silk wallcovering, in six aqueous colorways. Maldivian vistas also inspired Empyrean, her 33-inch silk mural of open skies, available in five dreamy hues. Meanwhile, New York–based artist Gordon Hull’s Floripa captures the vibe of Florianópolis, the paradisiac Brazilian island locale, in dense and swirling graffiti-like gestures, on clay-coated wallpaper, linen fabrics, and pillows. You’ll find all three (and 800 more Eskayel patterns) at the brand’s new Williamsburg showroom in Brooklyn, New York, where Empyrean, in salmon-hued Sol colorway, clads an entire room. eskayel.com

PISCINE
franck genser Care for a dip? The French maker floats a novel idea: a living-room pool. A coffee table shaped like one, that is. Piscine, a series of five designs in limited editions of seven, evokes the sun-drenched atmosphere of a David Hockney painting, with shimmering blue tops of hot-patinated bronze and waxed-brass legs shaped like a ladder or diving board. They embody what Genser calls “pop luxe,” pairing bold, pop culture–inspired designs with meticulous craftsmanship: The tables are handmade to order just outside of Paris via a lost-wax casting method. Available as an oval, rectangle, or puddle-like shape, Piscine measures approximately 14 or 21 inches high and up to 4 ½ feet wide—not large, but guaranteed to make a splash. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PROSTORIA
Sabot BY BENJAMIN HUBERT | LAYER
Sabot is a modular sofa characterized by a plump, playful profile and exposed timber feet. That latter detail not only highlights Prostoria’s skill at woodworking but also nods to the system’s name, which is French for wooden clog. But the sofa itself is soft and cloudlike, appearing to float above its low timber base, whether configured as a linear two- to four-seater, an S-shape, or island formations, with backs or backless. Movable accessories, such as tables, dividers, even planters that can function as green privacy screens, enhance Sabot’s overall flexibility. The piece’s friendly design language was inspired by residential interiors, a realm in which it’s right at home, but can also lend charm to commercial spaces.
British designer and Layer founder Benjamin Hubert has designed two stellar sofa systems for Croatian furniture brand Prostoria
Rostrum BY BENJAMIN HUBERT | LAYER
Also suitable for both domestic and workplace interiors, the more rectilinear Rostrum is a near infinitely scalable system that takes its name from the raised platforms used by public speakers—a tip of the hat to the slender, extruded metal legs and base that lift its seating elements high above the floor. The visually light and minimalist frame, with integrated power system, acts as a signature characteristic across a range of possible configurations and expressions, with the ability for designers to mix and match materials, colors, and finishes. The intuitive functionality of the accessories, like the simple swivel of a height-adjustable table, complements the overall sleek form of the range.

“Timber, texture, and softness of form work in harmony to create something unique and intriguing” WRITING DESK LIBRARY TABLE
Jan Hendzel is a self-described “wood nerd,” and his South London workshop explores the expressive qualities of the material, especially timbers native to England. His new collection, Drumlin—named for Irish landforms—bores into British ash, known for its complex grain patterns. Hendzel wanted to raise awareness of the characterful species, which is in decline due to a fungal disease; he employs responsibly felled trees to create Drumlin’s four pieces. A writing desk with a rounded three-sided lip uses rare quilted English ash, its rippled grain the result of a pleasing natural defect. Olive ash, whose light and dark streaks are caused by harmless bacteria, stars in the 12 ½-foot-long Library dining table. A sideboard and Library cabinet of white English, olive, and quilted ash allude to the patterns of dry-stone walls. Handmade to order, each is available in custom sizes and finishes. janhendzel.com

piet hein eek product 70x70 Crumbling Cabinet designer Piet Hein Eek standout In September, the Dutch artist and designer debuted his Masterworks collection at The Future Perfect’s New York gallery. It grew out of a challenge that Eek set himself: choose favorite pieces from over the years and push their stylistic and conceptual boundaries even further. One was the distressed-looking Tile cabinet, made of high-gloss lacquered scrap wood. For Masterworks, the same shape and material became this two-door, three-drawer cabinet: At first glance, the clever one-off seems like an ordinary piece of furniture, but a closer look reveals that one side is actually made of loose 70-millimeter wood cubes. Like blocks, they can be stacked or removed to create a crumbled effect. The result is a high-minded, sustainable design that’s also good fun. Through The Future Perfect. thefutureperfect.com 102

TRUCTHUY / THE LAB SAIGON
Don’t let the playful design fool you. The Ladybug shelf grew from a serious mission: bringing libraries to underserved children in Vietnam. A local nonprofit, Non Library, tasked the multidisciplinary studio Lab Saigon with creating affordable, engaging, and durable shelves that would protect books from weather and insects in rural areas. Lab conceived a rounded iron unit with open and enclosed shelves, plastic partitions, and painted-plywood cabinet doors. Its red polka-dot pattern and compact dimensions—4 feet high and wide, 1 foot deep—appeal to children. Matching tables, seating platforms, and smaller shelves round out the perky collection, which for now is only available to Vietnamese libraries; the studio plans wider distribution in the future. thelabsaigon.com

Hanne Willmann & Davis Furniture Breathing life into design with Vida and Ottanna Taking its name from the Spanish word for “life,” the Vida Shelving Collection designed by Hanne Willmann for Davis Furniture breathes dynamic vitality into interiors. This lively spirit is further enhanced by the Ottanna Chair, whose sculptural silhouette mirrors the elegant contours of the shelving, forging a seamless connection between the two collections. These two releases mark the second year of collaboration between the U.S. manufacturer and the Berlin-based designer, following the success of the Vida Table Collection, which garnered acclaim at NeoCon 2023. 2
The Vida Shelving Collection expands on signature soft geometric forms and high-quality materials, introducing a striking storage and display solution tailored for corporate and hospitality environments. Available in two height options, the shelving units feature curved solid steel side supports offered in over 35 powder coat finishes, ensuring both structural integrity and visual appeal. Mirroring this meticulous craftsmanship, the Ottanna Chair Series includes both a swivel chair and a four-leg chair characterized by soft forms and a fully upholstered shell. The chair’s seat, comprised of molded foam, highlights a sustainable manufacturing process that maximizes comfort while reducing waste. Ottanna’s warm, inviting stance positions it as an ideal solution for a variety of interiors, including residential, commercial, and hospitality spaces.

balmaceda Mexico City–based José María Balmaceda began his career as a costume and set designer, but later discovered his true passion, textiles, launching his own rug brand in 2019. He first met the people who would become his partners in that endeavor—as well as a sort of chosen family—on a trip to India and Nepal. He still makes frequent trips to the region, synthesizing elements of Asian culture and his own heritage to create fresh designs with a multicultural tone. His latest collection, Monumento, was inspired by the Brutalist architecture of Teodoro González de León. In designs like Philos, strong, angular shapes are rendered in a rich palette of colors drawn from his beloved Southeast Asia. Artworks as much as floorcoverings, the rugs are made from bamboo silk and wool, hand-knotted in Nepal. jmbalmaceda.com

MEETING POINT
SPACE HOPPER MEETING POINT, SPACE HOPPER
gan Jeweler Helena Rohner shifts from hard metal and stone to soft goods with Weave, her new series of hand-knotted wool rugs. Both patterns, rectangular Meeting Point and square Space Hopper, boast a pretty patchwork of varying weaves—sometimes within a single block of color—created by different mathematical sequences carried out on a handloom. “In essence, what we’ve done is expand the knots, which are normally small and subtle, into bigger knots so you can really appreciate the different shapes,” Rohner says. She initially devised the weaves to be made separately then collaged together, but Gan’s highly skilled artisans in India surprised her with executing the entire composition in a single piece. The end result? A medley of textures and hues that manages to be intricate up close and bold at a distance. Rugs come in two colorways: blue and orange. gan-rugs.com

The Dallas-based maker of high-end floorcoverings continues its tradition of abstracting nature with the Dandelions rug, designed by brand cofounder and creative director Philippa Agahzadeh. Inspired by childhood memories of blowing dandelion puffs with friends, Agahzadeh translates that sense of nostalgia into a 2.5-by-8-foot runner with a stylized composition sure to command attention in any space. Made with 100 hand-knots per inch, the luxurious wool-and-silk construction reflects the Australian-born designer’s roots in other ways: namely, her family’s wool farming heritage, which also informs her commitment to quality natural fibers and crafting without chemicals. atelieragahzadeh.com

stark x missoni The American carpet company has been collaborating with the Italian fashion house since 2005. As we’ve come to expect, the brands’ latest joint effort marries the high level of craftsmanship and the bold color and pattern sense for which they are respectively known. Patterns include bolder and softer presentations alike, with crisscrossed or zigzagged lines and shapes taking multiple forms—gradated, randomly mixed, or clearly articulated. Wool and other fibers—including silk, Lurex, and nylon—are combined to form varying textures, available in nine broadloom carpet styles, including tonal Noise, and nine rugs. Some rugs are hand-knotted, such as Nastri and Scratch, others are hand-tufted (Tropical, Shade) or flatwoven (Tobago), adding to the kaleidoscope of surfaces. Five rugs can also be customized, drawing from the Missoni pom box, which contains 100 colors in three fibers: wool, silk, and shiny nylon. missoni.com, starkcarpet.com

Graphic designer Armando Milani’s Inganni Spaziali collection has a narrative quality. He utilizes geometric patterns, sometimes obscured, to convey the idea that “a photographed form can lose its boundaries, expressing a design that can open up broader and hidden worlds.” (The collection’s name means “spatial cheat” in Italian.) The four carpets, including Illusione and Emozioni, are transpositions of analog artworks from the 1960s and ’70s that reference the era’s freedom and experimentation. To achieve the three-dimensional appearance, the design team used wool and silk in varying textures and concentrations. The warm palette, uniform fiber height, and natural materials are meant to evoke the soft, tactile surface of cotton paper. Patterns range from subtle black/white gradients to an evocation of childhood paper chains. ateliertapisrouge.com

“The collection highlights female craftsmanship and art, while connecting colors and patterns with a strong cultural and aesthetic significance”
layered The Stockholm-based interior design brand, founded in 2015 by Malin Glemme, has turned heads with its cross-pollination of bold and modern elements and a focus on craftsmanship and sustainability. The company’s latest collection is inspired by and named for traditional Röllakan rugs, whose geometric and stylized patterns, often inspired by plant and animal motifs, were historically woven at home by women. For this contemporary reboot, a reflection of Swedish nature and folk art, the design team chose a palette that’s rich and intense: deep red, blue, yellow, dark ochre, and forest green plus undyed black and white details. The originals were typically passed down as heirlooms, and these fresh interpretations are sure to follow suit. layeredinterior.com RÖLLAKAN

jessica helgerson interior design
In September, the Portland, Oregon, interiors studio launched its first in-house product: Bobine, a cheerful table lamp. The name is French for “spool,” a reference to the turned-wood style of the base. “The shapes reinterpret and exaggerate a traditional lamp form,” principal Jessica Helgerson notes. Locally made using handblown glass, the shade and base are available in seven colors that can be mixed and matched. (Other base options are oak and walnut, and ceramic shades will be coming soon.) “Every combination works well—you can’t go wrong,” the designer says. Add a little extra joy to the table with a coordinating glass snail, a fitting partner for the mushroom-shape luminary. jhinteriordesign.com

“The Nomad series redefines home as less a fixed place than a shell that adapts and transforms as we do ”
SOFIA KARNUKAEVA
sofia karnukaeva The Barcelona-based designer’s Nomad sculptures beautifully intertwine themes of home, adaptation, and the close connection between living organisms and their environment, all sparked by her personal experience of relocating to a new country from her native Russia. Crafted from white stoneware and illuminated from within, Karnukaeva’s zoomorphic pieces evoke nests, shells, beehives, and caves—symbols of safe, intimate spaces. The designs reflect her belief that “relocation compels us to transform our inner and outer space,” forcing us to adapt in new ways. Her process involved wandering beaches, gathering bits of driftwood and observing boulders smoothed by waves. She then mimicked those shapes in her work, creating forms that directly mirror her new habitat. sofiakarnukaeva.com

Among the latter is Lámina, a reflected light system by Antoni Arola that now includes not only pendants but also floor, wall, and table lamps, dubbed Lámina 45 and Lámina 165 for the length of their shades in centimeters. The minimalist fixtures comprise two simple elements: a dimmable LED tube and a thin, curved lacquered-aluminum shade. The Milan-based lighting-design studio compares itself to an haute couture atelier. And why not? With seductive folds, sheer fabrics, and contrasting trims, its artful creations would be right at home on a runway. Take the Otto collection, CEO and art director Alessandro Poli’s playful nod to 1970s sci-fi imagery. Introduced as a pendant last year, Otto is now available as a table lamp, with a conical mahogany base and a 19 ½-inch-diameter shade resembling a UFO. A pleated white-silk diffuser sits under a hatlike top of Rubelli or Dedar fabric in nine colors (or custom), including yellow, cobalt, green, and tender rose. Otto Table is handmade to order in Italy with a five-week lead time. servomuto.it

RONAN BOUROULLEC
“Céramique is a simple light with a simple purpose, and the function is clearly defined by the design of each version”
flos
PRODUCT: ANGÈLE CHÂTENET. PORTRAIT: PAVEL GOLIK
UP
Ronan Bouroullec has worked in ceramics for his entire career. One of his first projects was a series of vessels and furniture made with master potters in Vallauris, France, and he has since created ceramic vases and tiles for brands like Mutina. The Céramique collection is his latest experiment: three perky ceramic table lamps—Up, Down, and Side—with a lead-free crystalline lacquered finish in navy, green, or red. The design grew out of a craving for simplicity. After years of working on complex lighting systems, Bouroullec wanted to make a lamp out of one piece of ceramic that needed only a regular bulb. Flos had never produced a ceramic lamp, and Bouroullec thought it would be fitting for a company so tied to Italian production to support the country’s potters. The handmade lamps are 19 ¾ inches tall and weigh 7 ½ pounds, bringing a strong presence to any room. flos.com

k itchen bath kohler co. Water droplets, amorphic forms, and chiseled stone were among the starting points for noted New York–based visual artist Daniel Arsham as he imagined the Landshapes collection for Kohler. To forge the freestanding tub, he used Lithocast: the manufacturer’s stone-look solid-surface acrylic designed to feel warm to the touch and comfortable against your skin. Lithocast is something of a chameleon, able to be molded into all manner of curvy, organic, or even geometric forms— perfect for rendering the tub’s melting-ish form. (Oh: and the material is easy to clean.) The collection encompasses a pendant light and sconce, a vessel sink, faucet handles and decorative hardware, a toilet, WasteLAB tiles, and a gently amorphous mirror framed in carved birch. Arsham also designed six large-scale sculptures that face Lake Michigan on the brand’s resort property, flanking a private luxury guest cabin outfitted with the full Landshapes series. kohler.com

ALEX PROBA AURORA
Sometimes you have to color way outside the lines to arrive at a fresh take. Drawing upon her travels throughout Italy, multidisciplinary designer Alex Proba, based in Brooklyn, New York, and Portland, Oregon, mixes the serious (architectural elements like marble and terrazzo) with the quirky (foods like mortadella and salami) to achieve Aurora. The collection, marking her studio’s first foray into the tile realm, is a modern approach to traditional encaustic, made from unfired cement, sand, aggregate, pigment, and water. The 8-inch terrazzo tiles are shaped by hand using brass for crisp outlines and clear patterns. “It’s not just about the textures and colors but about offering something entirely new in a category that often feels repetitive,” Proba says. The latest entrant to Concrete Collaborative’s Strands patterned tile portfolio, Aurora encompasses six designs—Riser, Baked, Bato, Zina, Flores, and Seeker—in two colorways. concrete-collaborative.com

tm italia The limited-edition Impexa kitchen suite, created by Mattia Biagi and Cardenio Petrucci of Los Angeles studio MC+, derives its name from the Latin word for “disorder.” The designers say the canted forms were sparked by entropy, the breaking of patterns, and the forces of organic evolution…heady stuff! But the angular monoliths—one for cooking, one housing the sink—are sculptural wonders. Their internal structures are made of renewable materials, while exteriors are metal available in three finishes: highgloss dark gold or nickel, referencing the reflection of the sun and water, and a super-matte brass tone, a tribute to the surfaces of icebergs. Both units are topped in a rough-hewn high-performance ceramic, and the cooking unit features hidden induction technology. tmitalia.it/en, mcplusdesignstudio.com

Developed in collaboration with the California home brand Quiet Town, The Spot modular organizer has an unexpectedly colorful presence, plus it can be customized to such a degree that it can live nearly anywhere—not just in the shower. The strap length is adjustable, accessories can mount in any configuration, and all sorts of fun hanging bits (bottle baskets, toothbrush holders, razor hooks) can be added to make it your own. isla porter Tired of the white kitchen sameness that dominates the industry, two forward-thinking women, Emily Arthur and Sharon Dranko, founded their startup in a male-dominated world. To set themselves apart, they spent two years in design and AI tech development, landing on the brilliant idea to offer fully assembled cabinetry. LIDAR scanning and machine learning help streamline workflows, from measuring to customizing, thus dramatically reducing project time—from about 40 hours to only 3—leaving designers more time to be creative. Efficiency aside, the aesthetic and customization capabilities are also top notch, and Isla Porter offers 20 door styles, 70 finishes, and eight wood species that are endlessly combinable (and also pairable with unique stones). This is welcome news to the myriad designers they interviewed, who told them one of the biggest challenges was to find the right products. We say . . . problem solved! islaporter.com

CORTE ALVEO
Award-winning Milanese architect and designer Cristina Celestino, creative director of Fornace Brioni, infuses a handmade aesthetic into factory-made technical ceramic tiles. In the Araldica collection, two geometric patterns—parallelogramlike Ducato and circular Corte— blend white terra-cotta with the brand’s signature variegato clay in rich, earthy tones. Inspired by the intricate 12th-century mosaic work of the Cosmati family, who left their mark throughout Rome, these tiles create tessellations that evoke Euclidean geometry. Not to mention they’re durable and outdoor-ready, even for water exposure. In the Fluviale series, Celestino shifts focus to nature’s brushstrokes and the meeting of land and water. Alveo and Golena explore tonal variations and layered textures, with the former standing out for its dense coloration. Both collections highlight Celestino’s talent for marrying industrial production with artisanal design, creating tiles that add visual depth and sophistication to both indoor and outdoor spaces. fornacebrioni.it/en

Kirei’s acoustic tiles don’t just look good—they’re sustainable, too. Made from 60 percent postconsumer-recycled plastic, they exceed VOC standards, are Red List free, and qualify for LEED and WELL credits. And now the manufacturer can add “socially conscious” to that list of bona fides, thanks to a new partnership. Utilizing Kirei Ink custom printing, designers can now specify sound-absorbing wall tiles embellished with ArtLifting’s inspiring artwork that energize interiors while improving acoustics. (Designers can also connect with the manufacturer’s in-house acoustic consultants to ensure optimal sound performance for projects with demanding performance requirements.) ArtLifting, a public benefit corporation that’s also certified by the National Association of Women Business Owners, empowers artists with disabilities or housing insecurities, representing over 190 artists who earn 55 percent of sales and royalties—making each piece of acoustic art a powerful source of economic opportunity. kireiusa.com

BAS has been a New York fixture for decades, renowned for its deep-rooted stone expertise and hence a favorite of A&D specifiers. Now led by a dynamic team of women buyers and creatives, a rare sight in the male-dominated industry, the supplier continues to push the envelope. Its forward-thinking focus is on sourcing unique stones from across Europe and beyond that designers won’t find anywhere else—and that stand apart from the usual whites and neutrals. Recent focus has been on trending tones—rust hues, blue or purple coloration (see: Sodalite)—as well as slabs with active veining, like Calacatta Fabbricotti marble. And these days, it’s even easier to peruse the brand’s vast inventory, courtesy of a new 42,000-square-foot Long Island City facility, showcasing over 650 varieties, that BAS unveiled this past spring. The adjacent 4,500-square-foot showroom is designed for more than just browsing; it features a lounge, bar, and communal space. More evidence of its womenforward championing, BAS collaborated with the Female Design Council to cohost a series of events celebrating the space’s launch. basstonenyc.com

outdoor poltrona frau Earlier this year, Poltrona Frau relocated its New York flagship from SoHo to the Belmont Building in NoMad, joining fellow Italian notables with outposts in the burgeoning design district. In honor of the opening, the century-old brand debuted a special outdoor version of its hourglass-shaped Leplì stool, in a limited edition of 50, available exclusively at the new digs. Polypropylene string is hand-woven on the 15-by-18-inch aluminum base in a wicker motif, which designer Kensaku Oshiro chose for its quintessentially American aesthetic. “The result is light seats with refined breathability, suitable for open spaces,” the Milan-based Japanese talent explains. Say goodbye to the dusty exercise machine in the basement: Ethimo brings your home workout into the great outdoors with Out-Fit. The patio fitness system, a collaboration with fellow Italian firm Studio Adolini, is a mental and physical oasis in which to enjoy the health benefits of the open air. With a teak-slat floor and ceiling and a rust-hued metal structure, the design would look right at home in a private residence or a luxe spa setting. It features a boxing bag and a weight bench covered in outdoorapproved leather plus a set of wood gymnastics rings. And for a postworkout protein boost, the Phil kitchen is at the ready. The brainchild of Milan’s Gordon Guillaumier, the unit is available in several models including a smart induction grilltop. Its elegant yet informal cylindrical body practically begs people to gather ’round for outdoor entertaining. Through Walters Wicker. walterswicker.com, ethimo.com

“This innovative collection combines traditional basketry techniques with performance fabrics to bring the indoors out”
jim thompson The renowned textile house and Kitt.Ta.Khon, a Bangkok-based furniture-maker, share a passion for preserving traditional Thai craftsmanship and supporting artisan communities. Now the two brands join forces to hatch a new line of outdoor accent chairs that bridges heritage and modernity. The designs are a testament to innovation, blending Jim Thompson’s high-performance Archipelago fabrics with Kitt.Ta.Khon’s contemporary take on Thai basketry techniques. The Pandan armchair captivates with its simple weave patterns, while Mudjai, a low bench with curved seat, boasts Ikat-inspired upholstery and a leg design that invites light-andshadow play. The Takpha stool, adorned with striped fabrics reminiscent of sarongs, celebrates rural artistry. Frames of powder-coated aluminum, clad in recycled plastic, ensure durability for outdoor use, as do the easy-to-clean upholstery fabrics. “The chair is an example of Robin Day using an incredibly minimal palette of materials to create something that is both functional and aesthetically elegant”
ROBIN DAY
&tradition Postwar British icon Robin Day got his first big commission in 1951, when he was tapped to design furniture for London’s new Royal Festival Hall. Among the five pieces Day created was the RFH Terrace Chair RD4, a slim seat for the cultural facility’s outdoor spaces that embodied his democratic design philosophy and yen for simplicity. The chair is now being made commercially available for the first time, through Danish brand &Tradition. This rebooted version, achieving EU Ecolabel certification, is made with modern standards for durability and sustainability in mind. Its proportions are modest, at only 31 inches tall and 17 pounds, and its construction straightforward, but the FSCcertified teak slats and sturdy steel frame are built to withstand the elements. Available with an optional Sunbrella cushion, the timeless classic carries forward Day’s belief that good design enhances the quality of everyday life. andtradition.com
