SUBCON THAILAND MATCHMAKING LINKING REGIONAL MANUFACTURING TO GLOBAL INDUSTRY
One of the main goals of SUBCON Thailand is to support entrepreneurs in the manufacturing industry and help them link to regional manufacturing so that they are recognized by the international manufacturing community. Co-operation between Thailand Board of Investment (BOI), the Thai Subcontracting Promotion Association and UBM Asia (Thailand) Co., Ltd. has been in existence for the past eight years with the participation rate from part makers rising steadily every year. In 2014, SUBCON Thailand became the most important and largest Industrial Subcontracting event for the procurement parts in the region. SUBCON is distinguished from other shows and became ASEAN’s leading subcontracting event through a variety of activities - such as the intensive business matching program that runs during the show. SUBCON Thailand is again being held in conjunction with INTERMACH which allows buyers and sellers to meet and discuss business opportunities in a unique environment. SUBCON has been growing in terms of space, exhibitors and buyers every year. This year, over 300 part makers from Thailand, ASEAN, Japan and other countries will be in attendance along with over 12 other countries. We also expect over 20,000 quality buyers at the event. These two booming areas are enjoying high growth and there is excellent opportunity to expand to others countries. Entrepreneurs who able to develop their factories to an international standard. BUSINESS NETWORKING CELEBRATION The success of industrial part manufacturers and their efforts to build friendly relations with those in the industry on the night of May 16, 2014 at BITEC was most gratifying. The BOI Unit for Industrial Linkage Development (BUILD),the Thailand Board of Investment, the Thai Subcontracting Promotion Association, Alliance for Supporting Industries Association and UBM Asia (Thailand) Co., Ltd. jointly organized the event which opened opportunities for part manufacturers from home and aboard. Also benefitting were buyers and exhibitors who participated in SUBCON Thailand 2014. The night was filled with the buzz of manufacturers and buyers celebrating their success over the past two days. Views and ideas were exchanged and how to become a leading manufacturer in the region was a hot topic. It was a night that impressed and delighted all who attended.

Japan has been a leader in the development of technology and innovative manufacturing for many years. They are very important investors in the region. Most Japanese companies are looking into Southeast Asian countries for a production base that can help raise profits. This is possible here because of low labor costs and a growing middle class. From a survey of 1,315 Japanese companies by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) which was released in March, Japanese investors are more eager to invest in Southeast Asia than anywhere else. In 2008, only 22% of 839 companies viewed Thailand as a potential market. But that figure rose to 53% in 2013. China on the other hand remained at 51%. The success of attracting investment to Thailand has risen steadily. Japanese SMEs see increasing business opportunities and strong links with other ASEAN countries by using SUBCON Thailand and INTERMACH as a high-profile stage that has helped make the two events very successful. There are now over 100 exhibitors of high quality industrial part makers from Japan, including 4 provincials: Yamanashi, Shimane, Kanagawa and Osaka plus JETRO Bangkok – an increase of 20% compared with the previous year. These companies are showcasing industrial parts from many industries including the automotive and auto-parts industry, the plastics industry, automotive, electric, electronic parts and mold design. HEADS FOR A BRIGHT ASEAN MARKET Total car production in 2013 surpassed 2.45 million units. Although a little lower than the target it was still the highest in 52 years and ranked Thailand as the 9th largest automotive production company in the world. Thailand initially aimed to take the sixth place in 2012 and fifth in 2013. Exports are likely to expand worldwide with the largest market being Asia with 32%; followed by the Middle East 26%; Australia and Oceania 20%; South America 12%; Europe 7%; and South Africa 3%. The overall export figure increased by 15.97 percent, or about 1.3 million units for value of 600,000700,000 million baht. Despite intense competition, Thai auto part makers must manage their production costs which are rising steadily. Also, learning to find new markets abroad, and participating in various activities that help to expand market share is also important. The Thailand Board of Investment (BOI), Ministry of Industry and other organizations meet with Tier 1 manufacturers to help in this regard and boost expansion. If you consider the business opportunities and challenges for each market, the Asian market proves to be one of the best for Thailand. There is room for business opportunities covering automotive and auto parts - especially in countries such as Laos PDR, Malaysia and the Philippines. These countries neighbor Thailand and have good economic development plus people with high purchasing power for more cars. All of these countries share economic cooperation making trade barriers low and encouraging trade between themselves.

จากยอดการผลิตรถยนต์ในปี 2556 ทะลุ 2.45 ล้านคัน แม้จะต�่ำกว่าเป้าที่ตั้งไว้แต่ก็นับเป็นสถิติสูงสุดในรอบ 52 ปี และท�ำให้ไทยผงาดติดอันดับ 9 การผลิตของโลก และอาจไต่ ระดับส่งออกจากเดิมในปี 2555 อยูอ่ นั ดับ 6 กลายเป็นอันดับ 5 ของโลกในปี2556ได้ โดยมีแนวโน้มว่าปริมาณการส่งออก ขยายตั ว ออกไปทั่ ว โลกโดยมี ต ลาดใหญ่ ที่ สุ ด คื อ เอเชี ย คิดเป็นสัดส่วน 32% ของการส่งออกทั้งหมด ตามมาด้วย ตะวันออกกลาง 26% ออสเตรเลีย และโอเชียเนีย 20% อเมริกาใต้ 12% ยุโรป 7% และแอฟริกาใต้ 3%โดยการส่ง ออกเพิ่มขึ้นร้อยละ15.97 หรือประมาณ 1,300,000 คัน มีมูลค่า 600,000-700,000 ล้านบาท อย่างไรก็ตาม ในสภาวะการแข่งขันของโลกที่เข้มข้นขึ้น ผู้ผลิตชิ้นส่วนยานยนต์ของประเทศจะต้องมีความสามารถ บริหารจัดการต้นทุนการผลิตที่เพิ่มสูงขึ้นอย่างต่อเนื่อง การ เรียนรูก้ ารหาตลาดในต่างประเทศโดยเปิดโอกาสให้กบั ตัวเอง ในการเข้าร่วมกิจกรรมต่างๆที่เป็นการขยายตลาดร่วมกับ ส�ำนักงานคณะกรรมการส่งเสริมการลงทุน (BOI) กระทรวง อุตสาหกรรม และองค์กรต่างๆ เพือ่ พบปะกับผูผ้ ลิตระดับเทียร์ 1 ให้กว้างขึน้ เมือ่ พิจารณาโอกาส และความท้าทายของตลาด แต่ละภูมิภาค พบว่าในส่วนของตลาดเอเชียซึง่ เป็นตลาดใหญ่ ของไทยยังคงมีโอกาสที่สินค้ายานยนต์ และชิ้นส่วนจะเติบโต ได้อีกมาก โดยเฉพาะการเจาะตลาดในกลุ่มประเทศอาเซียน อาทิ สปป.ลาว มาเลเซีย ฟิลิปปินส์ ซึ่งเป็นประเทศเพื่อนบ้าน ของไทย และก�ำลังมีการพัฒนา ด้านเศรษฐกิจ ประชาชนมี ก�ำลังซื้อสูงขึ้น และมีความต้องการใช้รถยนต์มากขึ้น ทั้งยัง เป็นกลุ่มประเทศที่มีความร่วมมือทางเศรษฐกิจต่อกันท�ำให้ อุปสรรคด้านการค้าต�่ำ เอื้อต่อการค้าระหว่างประเทศด้วย
