Lee Ufan Exhibition “If you strike the bell, the sound will go far. The same happens if you put on the canvas a point, full of mental energy: it will send vibrations into the surrounding it colourless space ... A work of art is an object that is treated and untreated; both covered with paint and pristine areas are interconnected, so that they can mirror each other”. - Lee Ufan. The painter, sculptor, writer and philosopher Lee Ufan was born in 1936 in South Korea, and became famous in the late 1960s as one of the most prominent proponents of the theory and practice of the avant-garde current “Mono-ha” (“School of Things”). “Mono-ha” was the first of contemporary Japanese art movements to receive international recognition; it rejected Western ideas of representation and made emphasis on the expression and not the intervention. Followers of the “Mono-ha” made their works of raw materials, exploring the encounter between the natural and industrial. From the early period of its existence, “Mono-ha” artists intentionally limited the range of sculptural material with steel plates and stones, focusing on the accuracy of their conceptual and spatial relationships. 14
Steel plate - hard, heavy, durable - the building material of the modern world; stone in its natural, pristine condition, “belong to the unknown world” outside of their “I” and the external modernity, recalling the “other” or “existing independently of mental perception”. As explained by the artist in 1970, “The highest level of expression is not creating anything out of nothing, but rather drawing attention to the existing so that the world can be revealed more clearly”. The space created by Lee Ufan’s installations looks intact and at the same time filled, it is always the boundary between doing and not-doing. Relationship between filled / empty space forms the basis of creativity. Dialectical relationship smear and the canvas is reproduced in the relationship of stone and iron plate. Over the past few decades, Lee Ufan’s solo exhibitions were held in Tokyo, Seoul, London, and Paris; his works were repeatedly included in group exhibitions at world-famous museums: Guggenheim (New York), the gallery Tate Modern (London), the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Brussels (2009); Museum of Art in Yokohama (2005); Museum of Modern Art in Saint-Etienne, France (2005); Museum of Contemporary Art of “Samsung”, Seoul (2003); Kunstmuseum, Bonn (2001); National Gallery of Jeu de Paume,

TOP5 best puppet theatres in Moscow It is fun not only for children but for adults too! Only for true connoisseurs of art!
Puppet Theatre “Albatross”
Puppet Theatre “Surprise”
The internal structure of the theatre sets it apart from all the other children’s entertainment.
This theatre has an original approach, as children themselves can participate in the performances. The authors try to use familiar plots, trivia and details that will turn the action on stage in a truly exciting adventure for kids. Most theatrical productions are interactive performances in which children become participants of the show on stage. They play, guess riddles, word is transferred for a few moments in a magical fairy-tale game.
At first, the auditorium seems big and spacious, but after the beginning of the play it miraculously plunges you into the almost homelike atmosphere of intimacy. Children’s theatre repertoire comprises the most popular fairy tales, such as “The Gingerbread Man” or “The Cat in Boots”. For elder visitors, the theatre offers performances based on the fairy tales by Hauff, as well as concerts and master classes on making dolls.

Scarlet Flower
nce upon a time in a far away land a merchant was preparing to set out on a long journey. This merchant had three daughters, and he asked all of them what they would like as gifts for themselves when he returned from his voyage. The first daughter requested a golden crown, and the second one wanted a crystal mirror. The third daughter asked only for a little scarlet flower.
the flower he realised that it was the scarlet flower. Cautiously, the merchant picked the flower that his youngest daughter wanted so badly. Upon picking the scarlet flower he was confronted by a hideous beast, who demanded that in return for picking the flower the merchant had to send one of his daughters deep into the enchanted forest, to live with the beast forever.
The merchant set out on his journey. It did not take him very long to find a beautiful golden crown and a fine crystal mirror. He had difficulty, however, finding the third gift, the scarlet flower. He searched everywhere, and, eventually, his search led him into a magical forest.
Upon receiving the scarlet flower, the merchant’s youngest daughter agreed to go to the beast. She journeyed alone into the forest and found the castle where she would dwell forever. For a time, she lived there very happily. The beast had not revealed himself to her, and showered her daily with kindness and gifts. She started to grow quite fond of her invisible keeper, and one day asked him to show himself. The beast reluctantly gave into her plea, and just as he had feared, she recoiled in terror at the site of him.
Deep within these woods there was situated a palace, in which courtyard grew a beautiful flower. As the merchant drew closer to
That night the girl had a haughnting dream about her father falling deathly ill. She begged the beast to release her, so that she could find her dying father. Touched by
her concern, the beast released her on one condition – she would return to him in three days time. The girl found her father, and prepared to return to the beast in the allotted time. However, her sisters altered the time on the clocks, making her arrive late. Upon her arrival the girl was horrified at what she encountered. The beast was dead, lying there clutching her scarlet flower. Heartbroken, the girl embraced the dead beast, and declared her love for him. Having done this, she unknowingly broke the evil spell, and her beloved beast awoke, turning into a handsome prince. They lived happily ever after.
Music in Moscow “Without music, life would be a mistake. -Friedrich Nietzsche This weekend we are offering two different, but equally fascinating concerts. Enjoy the Sitar and Indian Raga or Rock concert at the Akademichesky Jazz club.
Nikolay Arutyunov & Quorum The new project by Nicholay Arutiunov is the group “Arutyunov & Quorum” that was created in 2014. At first glance, the art-rock is a sudden turn for the vocalist who sings soul (in the group Funky Soul), and used to sing rock (in the “Thursday Arutiunova”) and blues (in the group “Blues League”). However, the musical knowledge and love for the art-rock of the vocalist of this class allows feeling confident in this music style too. “Arutyunov & Quorum” recreates the atmosphere of British art-rock of the 70-s, a time when this area experienced a true flowering. The band performs songs from the repertoire of Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Manfred Mann`s Earth Band, Barclay James Harvest, Procol Harum, Caravan, and others. Sitar The sitar is a plucked stringed instrument used mainly in Hindustani music and Indian classical music. The instrument is believed to have been derived from the veena, an ancient Indian instrument, which was modified by a Mughal court musician to conform with the tastes of his Persian patrons and named after a Persian instrument called the Setar (meaning “three strings). The sitar flourished in the 16th and 17th centuries and arrived at its present form in 18th century India. It derives its distinctive timbre and resonance from sympathetic strings, bridge design, a long hollow neck and a gourd resonating chamber. In appearance, the Sitar is similar to the Tambura, except it has frets. The body of Sitar is more or less a spherical gourd at the lower end.
