Group one siblings: Part 3
Longview Stud offers the Dubawi half-sister to the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches winner and Prix de Diane runner-up Beauty Parlour (Lot 255). Stud manager Diego Romeo reports that the farm bought the dam Bastet privately from the Wildenstein dispersal
What led you to Bastet’s purchase – she was a private purchase from the Wildenstein dispersal. What was it about her that was of interest?
Bastet obviously was already the dam of a Group 1 Classic winner in Beauty Parlour, therefore she always would have lots of appeal to any commercial breeder. These Wildenstein families just keep throwing up good horses.
You have twice covered her with Dubawi and got two fillies… what is the thinking behind the cover?
Dubawi is one of the top stallions worldwide for producing Classic and black-type winners, furthermore he is a very sought after broodmare sire so having a filly by Dubawi out of a Group 1 Classic producer is very exciting.
Is this year’s foal similar to the yearling? Will the plan be to offer the foal as a yearling in 2019?
She is a totally different type, she is more scopey and a completely different colour. I think she will probably be retained to race, but nothing definite at this point in time.
Who is the mare in foal to now?
Dark Angel
Many of the female siblings / relations were bought by White Birch at the dispersal… do you know of any progress?
Yes, many of the female Wildenstein families were bought by Mr Brant of White Birch Farms, including Beauty Parlour herself, who has a Dansili filly two-year-old and a Kingman filly yearling to run.
Mr Brant also bought Bastet’s other daughter Blue Kimono, who has had an Australia colt yearling and a Frankel colt foal.
Blarney Stone, another daughter of Bastet, was also sold to leading French owner and breeder Wertheimer & Frere and has a two-year-old Deep Impact three-parts sister to Beauty Parlour, a Dansili filly yearling and an Invincible Spirit filly foal.
Given all the above relations to run in the not too distant future, we can definitely be sure of further success and updates to this brilliant family!
How would you describe your Sea The Stars’ colt (Lot 299) also going to Tattersalls Book 1?
Yes, Sea The Stars is a wonderful and serious stallion, this colt is the stamp of his father, a beautiful mover with a lovely, lovely temperament. We are very excited about him also.
Were you pleased with results at GoffsUK? What are your thoughts on the market?
We were very pleased with the results at GoffsUK, we sold all nine yearlings and made the top 10 consignors’ list for the second year consigning there.
The market is very strong at the top end, but the middle is tricky, vendors need to be realistic with their reserves in order to sell. Ultimately there are too many horses being produced and not enough buyers and new people coming into the sport.
Do you want to give a bit of a plug for some of your Book 2 lots?
We have some really nice Book 2 horses going to Tattersalls by Dabirsim, Dark Angel, Iffraaj, Kodiac, Lope De Vega, Muhaarar, Mukhadram and Showcasing. There is something to suit everyone.
Tell us a little about Longview… What is the aim of the farm?
We are a small 250-acre boutique stud in Cheshire breeding and pin-hooking nice quality horses, who can hopefully become top-class racehorses for their new owner.
