El Kabeir
ONE OF THE ATTRIBUTES which made Scat Daddy such a successful sire was his ability to get winners on both Turf and Dirt, despite being a Grade 1 winner only on Dirt.
His son El Kabeir was a high-class Dirt horse. He was raced by Zayat Stables and his career overlapped with their Triple Crown hero American Pharoah. At two he won the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs over an extended mile on Dirt and finished fourth in the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes on Dirt.
At three, he joined American Pharoah on the Kentucky Derby trail and won the Jerome Stakes and the Gotham Stakes, both Grade 3 contests at Aqueduct. He was third in the Grade 1 Wood Memorial to Frosted and was withdrawn from the Kentucky Derby on the eve of the race. He didn’t race again until October and won the 7f Listed City of Laurel Stakes on Dirt and went on to come home in fourth in the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes over the same distance.
He made several starts at four and five, showing his soundness and durability with a best finish in the Grade 1 Stephen Forster Handicap.
A good-looking roan colt, he was bred by Rustlewood Farm and sold for $250,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
El Kabeir is the first foal out of Great Venue, an Unbridled’s Song halfsister to the multiple Grade 2 winner Too Much Bling (Rubiano) and the stakes winners Barnsy, Ready For Roses and Littlebitabling.
Another son of Scat Daddy, No Nay Never has made a blistering start to his stallion career and already has a Group 1-winning son at stud.
No Nay Never, a Group 1-winning juvenile, has three lines of Mr. Prospector in his pedigree, the two from Scat Daddy himself and that of his damsire Elusive Quality.
El Kabeir is bred in a similar way as he also has a broodmare sire from the Mr. Prospector line, in his case it is Unbridled’s Song.
El Kabeir had 40 of his first crop sell as foals for an average of 16,370gns with the top price of 65,000gns given for the second foal out of the winning Invincible Spirit mare School Run, a half-sister to Listed winner Noor Sahara out of a half-sister to Land Of Dreams, dam of Dream Ahead. He was sold to Philip Stauffenberg by John Dwan’s Ballyreddin and Kellsgrange Studs at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale.
A pair of colts were sold for €52,000 at Goffs November with the first to achieve that price Redmarble Farm’s colt out of Impasse, a Dansili half-sister to the Group 2 Oleander Rennen winner Raa Atoll. He was purchased by Goodwill Bloodstock, while the other colt was bought by Yeomanstown. Consigned by Oghill House Stud he is the first foal of Zenara, an unraced Sea The Stars half-sister to two Listed winners from the Aga Khan’s family of Zarkava.
