This is an invitation for you, artists, goldsmiths, designers and artisans, to try and convey your opinion through a jewellery piece. Can we do it? Will we take up the challenge?

How will we structure the message in order for everyday dynamic eloquence (expressed in public and private conversations or through virtual messages) to gain 3D stability? To be permanent, not transient. Not subject to reinterpretation depending on circumstances. An opinion recorded by means of jewellery techniques, clear, subjective and so very private. But—leaving room for a retort. We have grown used to the fact that, through a jewellery piece, we provide an answer to a set question. Yet there is a touch (or flourish) of contrariness in each of us. This time, it is not someone else but we ourselves who want to open up topics and let them be subject to commentary. We do not respond to a set subject but present our point of view, our judgements and interpretations instead. We ask and proclaim. And we are counting on a discussion to follow: verbal, textual and—most valuably—through a jewellery replica.

The idea for such an exhibition was born during many discussions at meetings at Mariusz Pajączkowski’s Galeria Otwarta (Open Gallery) in Sandomierz. The concept is not new, having been evaluated and supported by Michał Gradowski himself, who contributed many valuable comments back in 2013. The idea took quite some time to evolve, while the impulse to write this script came from the invitation from Andrzej Sadowski, the organiser of the Jubinale Show, to stage an exhibition during the jewellery industry’s June 2018 meeting in Cracow. The support and space at the Magan Gallery, London, was supplied by Andrzej Pacak, with Marek Nowaczyk, the “biological” father of Legnica’s confrontations, kindly providing his experience, knowledge and help. These four people have declared themselves the exhibition’s organisers. And now, we are putting forward a proposal, which is at the same time an invitation to a collective Hyde Park.
