Artists Salon 7 - 21 March 2016
The gallery calendar opens with the most important exhibition of works held in the last five years. Three years in the planning culminates in a showing of over 60 paintings and artworks by worldclass professional artists. The best, the brightest, the most beautiful from studios around the globe. Special tribute is paid to the late Belgium born impressionist, Gaston de Vel whose legacy lives on in a vibrant offering of European scenes. Contemporary Italian works contrast with traditional and modern New Zealand landscapes. Wildlife bronzes and three dimensional works from studios in Assisi and Venice fulfill the promise of exotic excellence.

Cloud Over Opito, Coromandel Oil on board 63 x 122 cm $7,950 The Coromandel’s Opito Bay is one of Dahlberg’s favourite ports of call, one that he has revisited often and a subject which lends itself well to his distinctive surrealistic style. Here, the wide sweep of Opito Bay is surrounded by undulating golden hills between which nestles a wool shed, the only indication of human habitation in this spacious work.

16
Late Lunch, Hauraki Gulf Oil on board 65 x 181 cm $12,500 Here we have the winning combination of Dahlberg painting one of Auckland’s most recognisable landmarks, Rangitoto. After forty five years in front of the easel, Dahlberg remains New Zealand’s leading surrealist painter. When he turns his gaze, talent and brush to portraying the islands of the Hauraki Gulf, we are presented with a modern day heirloom. From a green, tree-clad foreground the eye travels across an expanse of blue to the light and shade of Browns Island. Wind-filled sails remind us of Auckland’s nautical love affair beneath a trademark Dahlberg textured sky.
