Congratulations Sue Bishop!

Dr. Susan B. Bishop was awarded the Washington University Dental Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumna Award on September 17, 2021. The Alumni Association President and ICD Michael Dietrich made the presentation, citing her many contributions to Dentistry including Past Regent of District 8 ICD.

I also want to congratulate the 2021 ICD Leadership Award winners Michael C. Reynolds of Midwestern; Ellie Park of UIC; Michele Brown of SIU and 2021 ICD Humanitarian Award winners Marisa Chanin of Midwestern; Ayman Zaki of UIC; Adriana Reppell of SIU . They received their scholarships through their schools due to the COVID Pandemic. Zoom meetings are the norm through this Pandemic and I am finally getting use to them! We hope to have a Convocation in Houston along with the ADA SmileCon meeting this October. Remember that membership in other dental groups such as NDA, AAWD, AAP, AAOMS will allow you to nominate those members in those organizations who are leaders in their field or provide humanitarian services to be nominated. They do not need to be ADA members but members of the organizations listed on the usa-icd.org website. Please help nominate those who are leaders in your community and involved in numerous humanitarian activities. Now is your chance to let that colleague know that you value their leadership and services by nominating then for Fellowship in the College. Please help us with nominating qualified candidates to the College! The University of Illinois College of Dentistry held their White Coat Ceremony on Friday November 19,2021 at the Isadore and Sadie Dorin Forum. Dental students of the Class of 2024 and 2025 along with Advanced Standing Class of 2023 were presented their White Coats. Dean Clark Stanford conducted the ceremony. Dr. Stacey Van Scoyoc, ISDS President gave remarks along with Dr. Thomas Sullivan, President of the ISDS Foundation; Dr. Theresa Lao, President of IL AGD; Dr. Mary Starsiak, ICD Regent District 8; Dr. Thomas Schneider, President Elect of CDS; and Dr. John Hagopian, Chair of IL Section of ACD.

White Coat Ceremony UIC College of Dentistry

The Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine (SIU SDM) hosted its 20th annual White Coat Ceremony on Friday, Oct. 8 in the Hatheway Cultural Center at Lewis & Clark Community College in Godfrey. The ceremony celebrated the second year cohort of 50 dental students representing the Class of 2024, as well as an additional six International Advanced Placement Program dental students who will graduate with the Class of 2022.

SIUE Chancellor offered the keynote address. He began by expressing his gratitude for Dean Rotter’s outstanding years of service to SIUE and the SIU SDM. Dean Bruce Rotter retired in December 2021. SIU White Coat Ceremony

ICD New Fellows Inducted via Zoom

She is on faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry in the Orthodontic Department. Her area of expertise is Sleep Apnea. She has lectured and published numerous articles on Sleep Apnea.

Glenn is on faculty at Midwestern College of Dental Medicine in Downers Grove and has been volunteering for over 10 years at the Chicago Dental Society Clinic providing dental treatment to the underserved in the Chicagoland area.

The International College of Dentists convocation was via Zoom. Our new fellows were called forth by our Regent Mary A. Starsiak We are proud to welcome the new fellows to the College. The new fellows in 2020 were recognized by Dr. James Setterberg President of the USA Section. Honorary fellows Robert E. Boose EdD, CAE; Yvonne Cook; and Judith Gonzalez; and Master fellows Dr. W. Michael Kenney and Dr. Paul E. Stybbs were honored. Dr. Robert J. Frazer, Jr. was presented the Outstanding Dental Leader Award along with Dr. Ronald E. Fritz receiving the Distinguished Humanitarian Award.

Bryan Blew B.A. in Biology in 1994 from Illinois Wesleyan University. DDS in 1998 from the University of Illinois Chicago. Work with the Ryan White Clinic, Dept. of Periodontics at UIC. Active with the Rock Island District Dental Society as president, the ISDS, serving on many committees and as a Delegate, Spokesperson and Trustee, and with the ADA as a Washington Leadership Conference attendee and Delegate. James Frett B.A. from St. Norbert College in 1975 and DDS from the University of IllinoisChicago in 1979. Active with CDS and ISDS, holding numerous committee chairmanships, service as an ISDS Trustee, and represented his CDS branch as a Delegate to the ISDS and represented Illinois as a Delegate to the ADA Annual Session. A fellow of the ICD and an active volunteer with MOM and the Illinois Dental Lifeline (DDS). Volunteer with the Special Olympics, United Way, and youth sports.

Kimberley Bolden B.A. in 1977 from Curry College and DDS in 1983 from Howard University. Time as Attending Dentist at Cermak Hospital and The Core Center. Recipient of several tutoring, research and alumni awards. Veterinary Dentist at the Lincoln Park Zoo. Researcher. NERB & CRDT Regional Board Examiner. Recipient of various awards for research and volunteer service. A fellow of the ACD, ICD, ADI and AGD. Active with the ISDS, CDS, AGD and the Junior League.

The Illinois Section of the Pierre FauchardAcademy inducted 18 new Fellows in a virtual ceremony on March 4, 2021. While it was disappointing not to be able to meet at a reception and have a more fitting ceremony. On the bright side this was probably the very first time that 9 Officers and Trustees were present for an induction ceremony outside of anADAmeeting. Dignitaries attending were from all over the U.S. and as far away as the Philippines. We are again very proud of the incredible talent, leadership and service exhibited by these new Fellows and we want to congratulate them again on receiving this high honor.

Maria Connoyer B.S. in Biology in 2000 from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. DMD in 2003 from Southern Illinois Edwardsville in Alton. Postdoctoral studies at McGann School of Dentistry. Successful career in dental practice startups in Chesterfield, Missouri, Mt. Sterling, Illinois and Quincy, Illinois. Active with GKAS and a busy mom. Mike Danner B.A. in Biology in 1991 from Monmouth College. DDS in 1995 from Indiana University. Served our country in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps stationed in Japan. Served in the Air National Guard, and participated in a Medial Relief Mission to Paraguay. Active as Past President of the Peoria District Dental Society, on ISDS committees and as a Trustee, and currently serving as Secretary. Represented Illinois as a Delegate to the ADA Annual Session. Instructor for the OSF GPR Program in Peoria. A fellow of the ICD, ACD, and active in sports and youth coaching.

Accomplished lecturer, having spoken to groups all over the U.S. Participates with the Illinois Dental Lifeline (DDS), Illinois MOM, and numerous other free health care missions.

Victoria Ursitti B.S. in Biology & Nutrition from Cornell U. in 1987. DMD from Tufts Univ. in 1991, with Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from the U. of Illinois Chicago in 1995. GP Residency at NY Hospital Cornell Medical Center, followed by a Pediatric Fellowship from the Beth Israel Medical Center. Served ISDS in numerous capacities including Delegate and Trustee, the CDS on many committees and as president of her branch. Is an accomplished lecturer and radio & TV guest. Fellow of the ICD, ACD and on the board of the Illinois Dental Lifeline (DDS) and participates in several other medical missions, including Illinois MOM, CDS Clinic and mission to Mexico.

Stacey Van Scoyoc B.S. in Biology from the U. of Illinois in 1990 and DDS from the Univ of Illinois Chicago in 1995. Recipient of numerous awards. Published. Served the McLean County Dental Society in many capacities including president. Also active with the ISDS on many committees and offices, including as Delegate, Trustee and is currently President Elect. Has served the ADA as a Delegate, and many committees. Also a multi year attendee of the Washington Leadership Conference. Active in community and school functions, both professionally and personally. A fellow of the ICD, ACD, and active with the Illinois MOM.

Joanne Oppenheim B.S. from Southern Illinois Univ. in 1985 and DDS from the Univ. of IllinoisChicago in 1989. Completed a GPR in 1990 and Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from the Univ. of Illinois Chicago in 1994. Pediatric Dentistry Co Chair at Illinois Masonic Medical Center, and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a Fellow of the American Acad. of Pediatric Dentistry. Has served the ISDS as Delegate. A fellow of the ICD, ACD and on the board for the Illinois Dental Lifeline (DDS). Participates in numerous other medical missions, including ones to Ghana and Brazil.

James Hardy B.S. in Behavioral Psychology from the University of Illinois in 1981 and DDS from Northwestern University in 1985. Has served the Danville District Dental Society as Executive Director since 1992, as president 3 times and has accepted the permanent position as Secretary/Treasurer. Currently serving the ISDS as Trustee, and has served many times as Delegate to the ISDS House. Is an ISDS Spokesperson, and is a 2021 Alternate Delegate to the ADA Annual Session. Eric Jackson B.S. in Biology from the University of Illinois and DDS from the University of Illinois Chicago in 2005. Active with the AGD, serving as president of the Chicago Component. Serves in numerous medical missions in the Chicagoland area, and the ISDS MOM. Was recognized by Chicago Magazine and Suburban Life Magazine. Published, and offers ongoing media and podcast interviews. Fellow of the ASD, ADI and ICD. Mastership award from the AGD. Randall Markarian B.A. in Biology from Washington U. in 1988, DDS from Southern Illinois U. in 1992 and in 1994 a M.S. from St. Louis U. in Orthodontics. Recipient of numerous academic awards and was the 1992 recipient of the Pierre Fauchard Award. Previously Section Head of the Dept. of Orthodontics for SIU E. A Diplomate of the ABO and Fellow of the ICD and ACD. Served the ISDS as a Delegate, Trustee and President. Has served in similar capacities in numerous other professional organizations and volunteers with Smiles Change Lives, having received their Distinguished Service Award.

Adjunct Professor at Midwestern CDM and on staff of the hospital based Greater Elgin Family Care Center. The Illinois Section of the American College of Dentists; the International College of Dentists District Eight and Pierre Fauchard Society Breakfast was held at the Illinois State Dental Society Annual Session at the Hilton Chicago/Oak Brook Resort on Saturday September 11, 2021. Since this was our first time back together as a group it was decided that we needed to rekindle friendships and update our fellows on what is happening in each College and Society. Dr. Larry Williams hosted the event on behalf of ACD.
