In the history of Pacific Grove, there has never been a more significant estate than Trimmer Hill, the residence built by Dr. Oliver S. Trimmer. Dr. Trimmer was the first mayor of Pacific Grove, a Good Samaritan that gave free medical care to the residents there, and the first president of the Bank of Pacific Grove. His contributions helped grow Pacific Grove into a thriving and desirable place to live. This exquisite estate was also the residence of Knut Hoveden, whose Hoveden Cannery helped create the longest running sardine industry in Cannery Row before its conversion to the Monterey Bay Aquarium in 1973.
