The new and vibrant Hamilton Markets will launch this month on Saturday, 14 May, at the beautiful historic Gregson Park, located in the hub of Hamilton.

The Hamilton Markets will be a monthly event on the second Saturday of the month from 8am to 1pm. A large variety of stalls will come together to offer beautiful handmade, locally designed and sourced products to compliment the diverse, multicultural community that exists in and around Hamilton, emphasising arts, crafts, food and entertainment from local cultural community groups.

Organisers of the markets plan to engage emerging artists and designers, allowing them to showcase their talents as part of this new vibrant community. This includes fashion, food, photography, paintings, ceramics, recycled, eco-friendly items and entertainment.

The markets will also endeavour to promote and support local not for profit groups each month by offering complimentary market sites to promote awareness of their organisations or to fundraise (conditions will apply).

Organisers of the Hamilton Markets, PWP Events and Marketing, will also be working with the local Hamilton Business Industry Association group to support local small businesses in the area by bringing people into Hamilton to discover all that is on offer, just a short stroll from the markets.

The Hamilton Markets are the latest venture of PWP Events and Marketing, who have been operating events and markets predominately in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie for over 25 years.

PWP currently operate the Warners Bay Foreshore Markets (third Saturday of each month), Music in the Podium and several large Lake Macquarie events, including the Lake Macquarie Christmas Twilight Markets and the Wallsend Winter Fair. PWP is looking forward to welcoming new stallholders and talented regular stallholders to the vibrant new Hamilton Markets.

Host an Australia's

BIGGEST MORNING TEA your way this May

The sound of kettles boiling is set to ring across the Hunter on Thursday, 19 May, for Australia's Biggest Morning Tea in support of the Cancer Council. This year, Cancer Council hopes to recruit over 7,970 generous morning tea hosts and raise over $4 million to help everyone affected by cancer right across the state. All donations fund Cancer Council's life-saving research, prevention, support programs and information.

Since Australia's Biggest Morning Tea began in 1994, millions of Australians have come together over a cuppa and a bite to eat to support those affected by cancer. By hosting or attending a morning tea, you will help Cancer Council continue its life-saving cancer research, prevention, advocacy and support programs for people affected by cancer.

Cancer Council NSW CEO Professor Sarah Hosking said Australia's Biggest Morning Tea events not only provide a chance to fundraise, but they're also an opportunity to connect with others.

"There have been significant challenges connecting with people over the past few years. Australia's Biggest Morning Tea offers a chance for communities to come together and reconnect over a cuppa for a good cause. "People are often surprised to hear that one Australian is diagnosed with cancer approximately every four minutes. That's what makes this campaign so important; it provides a space to learn about the challenges faced by those affected by cancer and raise vital funds for cancer care and research. "A donation of as little as $10 can provide online support for people affected by cancer to learn more about their cancer risk or what diagnosis means – from the comfort of their own home. "Every minute, every hour, every day, Cancer Council is here to help those affected by cancer."

In 2022, the official day to host a morning tea is Thursday, 19 May, however, participants can register to host at any time throughout May or June.

Make a cuppa for a cause this May or June. For more information or to register, visit www.biggestmorningtea.com.au or call 1300 65 65 85.

What’s On

AT THE CIVIC THEATRE THIS MONTH

Newcastle's beautiful Civic Theatre has some amazing live shows lined up for you this month - from a reimagined iconic gothic tale and classical symphony to cricket tales and belly laughs with so much comedy; there is so much to see on stage.

Brisbane's shake&stir theatre company bring Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre from the page to the stage. Following a childhood spent suffering at the hands of her cruel aunt, Jane finds employment at Thornfield Hall – the impressive yet mysterious home of Edward Rochester. As Jane and Rochester become inexplicably drawn to each other, the dark secrets locked within the walls of Thornfield start to unravel, forcing Jane on a heart-wrenching journey toward truth and freedom.

If cricket, history, and untold heroic stories are more your style, try Black Cockatoo by Ensemble Theatre. Based on legendary First Nations cricketer Johnny Mullagh and Australia's first international sporting team, this is a story of strength, resistance, hope and possibility. Funny and incredibly moving, Black Cockatoo is a new artistic collaboration between iconic Australian writer Geoffrey Atherden (Mother & Son) and former Sydney Festival Artistic Director Wesley Enoch (Black Diggers).

The Civic will also welcome Sydney Symphony Orchestra's Energy & Elation. Experience spirited music by Mendelssohn, Haydn & Dvořák for one night only (don't miss out!).

And finally, we cannot miss the opportunity to mention that there are plenty of laughs to be had in May, with over ten separate comedy events scheduled for your amusement.

Hot tip for mum's day: show tickets make a wonderful present! Or why not invite mum out to the High Tea event in the gorgeous City Hall on Mother's Day.
