Intratec Renews Contract with World Leader in Biopolymers Braskem selected Intratec to continue providing feasibility studies targeting routes for the production of chemicals from renewable resources. Since 2006 Braskem has relied on Intratec assessments, which provide insights on cost drivers and scrutinize the feasibility of such technologies. Houston, TX – Intratec (www.intratec.us), the leading provider of technoeconomic publications and process consulting for chemical and allied industries, announced an agreement with Braskem S.A., the largest manufacturer of thermoplastic resins in the Americas and the world leader in biopolymers, to continue providing feasibility studies targeting technologies for the production of chemicals from renewable resources. Under the agreement, Intratec will continue providing assessments targeting embryonic and emerging chemical process technologies, which are based on conceptual process design encompassing process modeling combined with material balances and preliminary equipment sizing. Based on such data, total fixed investment and operating costs of a commercial scale plant are estimated. Finally, the uncertainties inherent to emerging technologies are assessed through sensitivity analyses, which point out the major drivers for the profitability of the examined technology. “Braskem’s option to continue relying on Intratec validates the in-depth, unbiased studies we develop as proven standard of excellence for techno-economic assessments,” said Intratec’s founder and CEO Felipe Tavares. “We are proud to have this opportunity to continue supplying customized studies that Braskem needs to reach its vision: be the world leader in sustainable chemistry, innovating to better serve people.” Since 2006 Braskem has relied on Intratec studies (www.intratec.us/consulting/strategic-solutions/feasibility-studies), which provide insights on cost drivers and assess the feasibility of routes for the production of chemicals from renewable resources, for instance the production of polyethylene from ethanol and the manufacture of green propylene. Mr. Tavares adds: “Through our independent studies, Braskem have benefited from critical reasoning and economic guidelines for effective research and development planning involving several new and unproven green technologies.”
