The main materials used in CROP consist of bamboo, rope, metal roofing, and concrete footings. To protect the integrity of the bamboo’s strength, lashings are used to join the bamboo to other bamboo members, steel members, and roofing. This type of construction allows for fewer tools and less precise measurements, a crucial benefit for implementation on site in Guanacaste National Park.
COSTA RICA
The design of the structure is focused around bamboo, a vast natural resource in Costa Rica. Bamboo can be easily joined into pre-fabricated components and installed for modular building.
observation point
The Costa Rica Observation Point is designed as a prototype for interventions within Guanacaste National Park. CROP serves primarily as a sunshade and resting place for visitors in Guanacaste National Park. Bundled columns splay from each footing and extend upwards to support the floor and roof structure.
