component 1 part 2

I have used issuu for more information as well as extra inspiration and I have found a student that had the idea to use fruits to create an abstract structure so I decided to use apple shavings

Experimentation

After I took pictures from different sides, I started by drawing the outline

I used a knife to slowly and carefully cut the outside skin of the apple and it created some interesting unregulated shapes, then I picked them up and dropped them on a table so that it could be more random

I think the drawings are very peculiar but I like the outcome, so from these I will try and create a youth zone out of these

Model

From those apple shavings I played around with it until I got this design plus I added these interesting addition to the exterior

The top of the building will be a bit higher, going into a cone shape

This is the structure but the building itself will have about 3 floors with many rooms

For this design I arranged the apple shaving on the table creating a more circular shape and it reminded me of a rose

The building wont be a perfect circle, it will be made from three different sized ovals overlapping each other

I drew the outline of the shape and then used different shades of grey that represent the pieces of the structure that are closer or further away

This is one of the structures I was able to design from the apple shavings

This design reminds me of a café I did which was in the King’s Road in Chelsea I did some some research on it and it helped me with the creation of this I used colour to colour in the structure which added some depth and perspective to it. Then I added some trees in the back to give a sense of scale

My last model will be based of this arrangement of apple peal

This piece is irregular and it has a more curvy surfaces

The added colour helps me see create depth and make the design get closer to looking like a structure

This picture reminds me of all the features of a flower

I think it will be a bit hard to transform this piece into a building but it will look very interesting.

I drew the outline of the shape and rounded it into a simple oval

From the first design I decided to add one more overlapping the first one and changed the position of them, and this is what I managed to get out of them.

So then I made a more coloured version of the structure where I added grey for where their will be windows and glass

This structure reminded me of lids

So the top of the building will be glass for extra natural light

Last model

I started off by bending the wires into the shown shape

Tensile model

Using wires, some material and staples I came up with these models

After bending the wires I have picked out a white material cloth and stretched it on top of the wires

This is how I think the structure I have made from the model, would look like in my location if drawn

I have made some quick elevation sketches

I have labelled all the materials and components of the structure to help me get a better understanding

Tensile model

For these models I have used a base of wood where I started off my model

Finally after I secured the wire I took a piece of white material and stretched it over until it covered the whole sculpture

and then I used the staple gun to staple the material at the bottom of the wooden base

I have then picked out a wire and modelled it in different ways to create this shape

Next I used the staple gun to secure the Newley shaped wire on the the wooden base

I think that the outcome is very interesting but a bit overwhelming and complicated for a youth zone construction on my site

I have tried drawing them out to get a better understanding of how the structure would look like from different angles

Zaha Hadid Heydar Aliyev Center

I really like Zaha Hadid’s work because she uses this movement and flow style in her structures and the way they are all continuous makes the designs intriguing

This piece of architecture inspiration was a fluid form that broke free of the flat, communist-style design that was predominant across the country

“We wanted to take the plaza and shape it into an architectural environment, to create a continuous flow between inside and outside, to create a certain infinity,” Hadid says.

Pebble shaped wangjing Soho towers in Beijing

The structures are positioned in a very interesting way and even though the interior sides of the buildings seem to not get any light they actually are placed in a way that the sun and light can be seen through every window.

Described as "three interweaving mountains", the towers feature curved and tapered forms.

These three building are supposed to look like pebbles

I would like o use this building when designing my structures because it includes an organic form style

The design responds to the flows of the city

Mood board for materials on building

The final design I chose for the youth zone itself is initially made out of three circles

I joined the circles with straight lines making rectangles so then I could have a template for when drawing a more realistic design

I drew each section of the building

The building will be at the side of the park so it will be built on Greenland. There will be a lot of classrooms in the building for different activities and there will be stairs surrounding an elevator.

The building will have three floors

Inspired from

The sketch consists of simple circular and straight shapes

The final design is inspired from this structure inspired from apple peal I changed this structure by making the building taller and bigger so that its more appropriate for a youth zone

Before developing this design to the new one I drew a section as if the building would have been cut in half

The stairs have to fun looking but safe for children because there will be lots of people going up and down these stairs

The stairs inside will be in a spiral shape as I want there to be space for an elevator to be place right in the middle so that it wont take up to much space

There will be many windows so that there will be natural light , which would help save electricity and its more sustainable

The stairs will be made from cement, iron, metals and wood

The walls have to be sound proof and be thick because it is placed in a park so the outside noise has to be blocked aswell as the inside noise for the outside

Inside

I think that the final design should be a little bit more complex in order to express enthusiasm and fun especially because its for a youth zone I will also be adding more colour

This is the elevation of the outcome

I really like how the spiral stairs around the elevator look like so I will be using that in my final design

This is the outcome of the design on sketchup

Ron Arad museum

This structure was designed into a cultural centre of international importance.

It is made up out of different layers overlapping to

create dimension

Its very interesting the colours that are used for the different layers it creates excitement and it intrigues people to come and see the structure

I like how the layers are in this wavy like shape surrounding the rectangle buildings

The layers look like ribbon

This design overlap each other and covers above this empty space leaving an interesting pattern of the ground hen the sun shines over it

The exterior design focuses on an orange colour scheme, a bright colour that grabs the attention

The orange structure covers the simple grey building under

I will be using this building as inspiration starting by creating a similar structure and integrating it into my design

Final design sketches

Plan view

This design would be made from simple shapes that are rectangles and ovals

The ovals are different sizes at different levels The rectangles will hold the ovals

Three different buildings

This design reminds me of thread

Layers overlapping going around the building to make it more fun looking

i think that the two cubes at the front being placed one over the other creates a more interesting perspective and brings a more fun visualisation

In the end, I had decided to further experiment with these curvy lines around the structure to add something that will make the structure stand out

If I left the design like this it would have been to simple

Quick Card model

I found this picture of a similar structure made from coloured see through plastic and I will use it as inspiration

I took some cardboard and planned out the structure

I cut out three ovals and rectangles to make the simple shaped from the design

These simple but different shapes work together to make the structure more simplistic and straight forward

The plan view of this model is similar to the sketches I made

Final design sketch

These quick elevation sketches show how straightforward and direct this structure is

I am trying to show how each level and space is placed through these section drawings

I wanted to show the different levels of this structure through this physical model
Plan view Sketchup

The main buildings have a very simple geometric design I wanted to keep it simple so that I could have the design on the exterior be the main piece of this structure

Main building (one floor)

Second building (two floors)

The individual floors will be designed in order to have rooms with different activities, like arts and crafts, cooking and gaming, to be enjoyed by the community

Third building (three floors)

Toilets

This is a rough sketch of how I would like the exterior design to look like, which consists of wavy irregular and overlapping shapes

This interesting design will cover the simple rectangular shape and make the youth zone be more captivating

I really like how the shadows on the floor are created from the extended, structure

The structure from the exterior has a part that is continuous, which overlaps and fully covers the building

Evaluation:

When exploring the idea of Simple and complex i had decided to experiment with a lot of simple geometric shapes in order to create a design for a youth zone.

I firstly researched and looked into natural forms and elaborated by creating structures out of fruit peels which lead the design to have a circular shape.

This design was a little too straightforward, so in order to fix it, I made the decision to try sketching with more rectangular and straight line shapes while still using simple geometric forms. I assembled a total of three rectangular building components, two of which overlap and add depth.

To further develop this piece, I decided to use the architect Ron Arad and his Museum construction as inspiration to further improve it and create a more intriguing structure for the building's exterior . I wanted my design to be sustainable and not to create any harm to the existing environment, so to achieve this i did some more research on some of the materials that i could change to more sustainable materials and then decided to focus on the greenery around the building, because the structure will be located in a park. I think that I managed to integrate the greenery in my design while still making it appealing for the visitors by using circular overlapping shapes. Adding the circular shapes creates a contrast between the exterior and interior. The major structures of this youth zone are the three different rectangular structures that will be used for a variety of activities in separate spaces for all people, but primarily teenagers in order to keep them off the streets and improve the quality of life in the neighbourhood. I managed to add the different classes, toilets, café and lobby which were specified on the specification and brief.

I think that I could have experimented more with more complex and uneven shapes but, overall I consider that i have produced a sustainable , safe and fun structure that has met all the requirements
