The present diploma thesis investigates through literature review and field work the processes through which the public spaces of the city are the places of encounter of the "strange" with the local population and the extent to which the design permits or deviates from this coexistence. The subjects of the study are the "others", immigrants, while the coexistence process concerns both the inhabitation of the public space and the creation of common spaces. The field of study is the city of Volos, where through interviews with Immigrants we learn about everyday habits and experiences within the city as well as their personal views about their stay in Greece.
