Humanitarian Accountability in Action: A showcase of best practices IOM, Plan and World Vision present their lessons learned from accountability to affected populations project Yesterday, in a donor and media conference, IOM together with World Vision and Plan International presented the experience and results of the Pamati Kita Common Services Project. Marking the culmination of the Project that started in July 2014, the event aimed at sharing key achievements, best practices and ‘lessons learned’ with the donor and partners. The project manager and core staff members presented various videos, animations and information, education and communication materials that were produced in such as comics, and the participants were able to learn about the impact this project made in the communities affected by Typhoon Haiyan. The objective of the ‘Pamati Kita’ Common Services Project was to increase accountability of the humanitarian community to Haiyan’s affected populations. Also, it aimed to increase quality and impact of response interventions through the use of common approaches of inclusive participation of beneficiaries. This included providing information, creating complaints and response mechanism to ‘close the feedback loop’ of follow-up and response to beneficiaries.

The event took place in Manila and was attended by 60 participants from government partners, embassies, donors, UN partners, non-profit organizations, media and the private sector. IOM’s Chief of Mission Mr. Marco Boasso expressed his gratitude to representatives of Plan, World Vision and partners commenting the importance of working together in a project that is about listening the opinions and necessities of the communities. “Communities have voices and the humanitarian agencies should be aware of them and respond”, he added. The presentation was followed by an open discussion where the participants gave positive comments about the project that can be useful after a natural disaster but also it can be useful for the complicated situation that is currently ongoing in Mindanao.
