Iowa Holstein Princess
Hello All!
As spring approaches, it brings to mind that my reign as your State Princess comes to an end. As I reflect on the past year as Iowa Holstein Princess, I have had the honor of representing the Holstein breed and producers. Reminiscing on the past year, I am grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given. One of the most impressive experiences I was a part of was the State Holstein Show in West Union. From the depth of quality in the cattle that were presented to the excitement and eagerness that the junior members bestowed. I would like to tell all of the exhibitors that they need to be very proud of themselves and all of their hard work. Congratulations to all of you!!!

I would like to wish the best of luck to the next Iowa Holstein Royalty and to make the most out of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I look forward to continuing to represent and be an advocate for the dairy industry. Thank you for all of the memories and support that each and every one of you extended to me. Signing off and best regards, Brooke Courtney

Name: Amanda Engelken Hometown: Earlville, IA High School: Maquoketa Valley Class Size: 48 Farm Name: Delta Acres Dairy Major: Animal Science
Why did you decide to attend ISU? I decided on Iowa State because it has a very strong Animal Science program, and has a very high placement rate for graduating seniors. ISU is also well known for their Dairy Science program which also made me decided to come here. What has been your most memorable college experience? My most memorable experience was competing at the World Dairy Expo Dairy Judging Contest with Kaskaskia College. It was one of the longest days of my life, but nothing has beaten the excitement of the awards ceremony and seeing all of the hard work pay off. What has been your favorite course? My favorite course was ANS 225, Intro to Swine Science. Pigs are kind of my new found love in college. I like being able to learn about a whole new species and learning about a different aspect of animal agriculture. What are your future career goals? Upon graduation, my plan is stay within the dairy industry, working within nutrition. I also want to and plant to stay involved in my family’s dairy farm.
