Chairman’s Message Jeff Wangsness, JMT Trucking It is a great honor for me to serve as the Chairman of the Board for the Iowa Motor Truck Association. This is a role that I do not take lightly and quite honestly, I am humbled to be in this position, especially when I look over the list of previous IMTA leaders. We have truly been blessed to have some very outstanding individuals Jeff Wangsness serve as the IMTA Chairman Chairman of the Board of this organization. Since the beginning, members have shown their support of this association and because of that support, IMTA is one of the finest trade associations you will ever find.

Fall 2011

I recently travelled throughout the state and participated in the various membership outreach events that were held. It was through this experience that I really developed an even greater appreciation of the association and its members. It was extremely rewarding to meet the different members that attended the outreach events. While I knew some of the attendees because they come to various IMTA events, there was a larger percentage that I had not met before. It was valuable to meet these members and discuss their issues. Of even greater value, was hearing about their reasons for continued support of the association and its efforts. These conversations were enlightening and further illustrated that there is a variety of reasons that people belong to IMTA. The main reason that seemed to emerge in every conversation regarding “why someone belongs to the association was the fact that IMTA was looking out for

their interests at the Capitol and in front of regulators. This was encouraging to hear because it is a membership benefit that is extremely important but hard to quantify and knowing that members of all sizes from all areas of the state have an appreciation of this valuable benefit was nice to hear, especially since this truly is our number one priority. The other highlight of my recent travels with the IMTA staff was getting more acquainted with the staff. While I have always had a great deal of respect for our professional staff, traveling with them for two weeks really deepened my appreciation of the work they do on our behalf. The IMTA staff is extremely dedicated to serving the membership and giving 100% to everything they do. They are attentive to the needs of the members and extremely sensitive and appreciative of the challenging environment in which we are all forced to operate in. They are

Chairman’s Message constantly discussing ways in which they can help the membership and advocating for our concerns is always on the forefront. Our staff is truly something we can be very proud of and I look forward to my continued work with them. I now know firsthand the amount of time and energy it takes to service a membership of over 700 companies and I promise you that we are well served. As I start my job as the Chairman of the Board for the association, I realize that we continue to have many challenges on the horizon. Legislative and regulatory issues will continue to be a common area of

frustration and concern on both the state and national level. While the economy is moving in a little better direction I think there is still a long road ahead of us before we should be boasting about a recovery. And finally, your association will be facing challenges of their own. Some of the most notable priorities will be review of the current dues schedule, identifying some alternative revenue sources, assessing some of the short and long term needs of our headquarters building and taking a good, hard look at where we need to be in 5 years. We have a whole new generation of leaders waiting in the wings and your association

leaders need to start looking at ways to attract these next generations to get involved. While I call these challenges, these are also exciting opportunities for all of us to strengthen the foundation of our organization. IMTA hasn’t been around for over 70 years because we have sat around twiddling our thumbs and I don’t anticipate that will be the manner in which we proceed anytime in the future either. I will certainly be calling on each and every one of you to get involved. Your feedback and insight is always appreciated and valued so please don’t hesitate to contact me with your ideas, your concerns or your opinions. This is by the way OUR ASSOCIATION and we owe it to OUR ASSOCIATION to always be looking for ways to improve. Jeff Wangsness

President’s Message Brenda Neville, Iowa Motor Truck Association This magazine is a special edition of the Lifeliner which features a recap of the many different events and activities that have been held throughout the past several months. As you will see, it has been a very busy time for us as we held several annual fundraisers, our management conference and then we hit the road for a two week road trip. Getting in front of members is always a top priority and from August until the end of the year, we take that job very seriously. Fortunately, IMTA’s elected leaders also appreciate the value of our outreach efforts and their leadership and support is what truly enables IMTA to continue to be a valuable partner to each and every one of you. The IMTA officers continue to show their commitment by the tremendous amount of time and energy that they put into these volunteer positions. I am always touched and amazed at the amount of time our officers are willing to give to this association and they do all of this for IMTA as they are also running their businesses. They give a gift to this association that is unparalleled and of such high value that I couldn’t even begin to put a dollar amount on their efforts. A special thanks to outgoing chairman Mike Riggan, TanTara Transportation. He was extremely dedicated to serving as your highest leader and he made it a point to be engaged and involved at every level. Mike was committed to reaching out to the members of all sizes and he traveled to every corner of the state to meet with members and prospective members to encourage their support of this association. He had a compelling story to tell because like some new members, he wasn’t completely sold on the value of IMTA when he first became a member….but that quickly changed and he became a strong believer and a powerful advocate of belonging to IMTA. A special thanks to our officers as well, they too are asked to give a great deal of time and energy to the organization and once they start moving up the chairs it is essentially a four year commitment.

That is a big ASK and one that can’t be taken lightly, especially given the challenging environment in which you are all forced to work in at this point. Board Meeting Board Meeting Highlights

Gas Tax Increase - off the table again?

Aaron Tennant, Tennant Trucking and Dave Dickey, Harold Dickey Transport. Aaron was a special guest at the Board Meeting and is an out of state member.

The Governor announced at the board meeting that despite his earlier desire to fix the roads in Iowa, he felt the timing was not good to pass an increase in the 2012 session. Based on polling, it was determined that too many Iowans were not supportive of a gas tax increase and therefore, legislators wouldn’t be able to vote for an increase either. He also quickly added he would not veto a gas tax increase if legislation made it to his desk, but he just felt that the timing was not right for an increase. He vowed to find further savings which could create some extra dollars within the budget for road and bridges. For the past two years, IMTA has been working on this issue with other interested associations and a special commission met over the summer further supporting a gas tax increase. It is yet to be determined where this will go in the 2012 session….stay tuned!

Governor Terry Branstad joined the meeting to review his priorities for 2012 Legislative Session.

Member Outreach IMTA Member Outreach Events

The IMTA staff and officers hit the road this fall and conducted ten member outreach events over a two week period. They covered the entire state and had great attendance at all the events. In the first week, they focused on the Western side of the state holding events at Council Bluffs, Sioux City, Fort Dodge, Clear Lake and Des Moines. The following week they moved to the Eastern side of the state and held events at Waterloo, Dubuque, Davenport, Iowa City and Ottumwa. Collectively, the effort reached over 200 people and offered an opportunity for members and prospective members to get valuable updates on the various priorities that the association is focusing on.

Jeff Wangsness, JMT Trucking Company, welcomes the group at all outreach meetings.

“I believe this is some of the most valuable work we can do and it is imperative that we get out and see the members throughout the state. We get stuck in the ivory towers of Des Moines and can easily lose touch as to what challenges and issues the members are facing on a daily basis,” said IMTA President Brenda Neville.

President’s Service Award leader lets their actions speak louder than words each and every day. And a great leader cares little about their own agenda and instead is driven by the greater good and the greater cause.

Dan Stevens, Farner-Bocken Co.; Pat and Pam Storey, Motor-Ways, Inc.

2011 IMTA President’s Service Award Recipient – Dan Stevens IMTA sadly lost one of its great leaders and officers this fall. Dan Stevens, with Farner-Bocken Companies had been a visible supporter and leader over the past decade and was working his way up the chairs. As an officer of IMTA, Dan was extremely involved and active on a number of committees and took his service to the association very seriously….and always challenged others to “step it up” and get involved. He was looking forward to serving as IMTA’s Chairman of the Board in 2013 and was sadly denied that opportunity when he lost his battle with heart disease. IMTA was honored to be able to recognize Dan for his service to the association by awarding him with IMTA’s highest honor, the President’s Service Award. His family was on hand at the IMTA Management Conference to receive the award and below are the comments that were made by IMTA President Brenda Neville on the night that the association came together to pay tribute to this great individual.

“Throughout the course of history of any great organization, there are GREAT people that invariably leave their imprint through their compassion, their leadership and their unwavering commitment of support. These people are quite often the same ones that do so without seeking a lot of attention or glory, instead, they simply do what is right and set a shining example of what it means to be a great leader and a great friend. A great leader is reliable, honest, sincere and genuine in everything they do. A great

These are the individuals that enrich and touch our lives in a way that forever change who we are. These are the individuals that we can’t help but aspire to emulate because of the example they set for us. And these are the individuals that set themselves into a class of distinction that is uniquely reserved for a very few.

ideas, thoughts and goals of what he wanted to accomplish as an officer of this association. But Dan also knew that that dream was in constant jeopardy because of health obstacles that he faced on a daily basis. Health issues that he had no control over especially when he was added to the list of heart transplant recipients. I often told him that the reason his heart was wearing out was because he had overused it with all

Sadly, the GREAT ONEs are far too often taken from us… long before they have fully left their imprint on the soul of their mission….and long before we are ready to say goodbye. But fortunately, our thoughts should not focus on what they have left undone but rather the accomplishments and dreams that did come to be… And the lasting mark they so quietly left on the people they knew, would be responsible for carrying on their legacy of leadership, friendship and love. Our dear and special friend, Dan Stevens was one of those cherished and rare leaders that most certainly left his mark on this organization and on the hearts of many of us here tonight. For the last decade Dan tirelessly served this organization and provided a consistent and constant voice of reason and leadership that earned him the respect and support of everyone he came in contact with. Dan’s pride and dedication to living life to the fullest and in a respectable and honorable manner was evident in everything he did. I still remember the day that we visited Dan in his office at FarnerBocken as he made the commitment to move up the leadership chairs for IMTA. It was with great joy that he expressed his long term dream of walking across this stage and being named our Chairman of the Board. He had very strong

President’s Service Award Dan also deeply loved his FarnerBocken family which had been a part of his life for over 30 years. He always demonstrated that FAMILY, in all its different spectrums must always be a top priority. Dan never stopped believing that the future was going to be great, whether that future was here on earth or in an even greater place that was free of the ongoing pain and suffering he had experienced over the years w/his heart issues. It was because of that view of the future that Dan was able to so fully LIVE and GIVE to all of us.

you Dan, we will be eternally grateful for knowing you and working beside you. At this time, if gives me great pleasure to present the 2011 IMTA President’s Service Award to Dan’s family this evening. Please welcome Pat, Andy, Janelle, Nick, Abbie and Sarah to the stage.”

the love and compassion he had extended to so many throughout the course of his short 50 years of life. Because Dan always knew that his days may be numbered, he TRULY lived each and every day to its fullest and he made everyone around him do the same thing. Dan taught us what it meant to really have “faith” because he relied on that every day and never quit believing that anything was possible. In addition, Dan taught us to always love our family as he so proudly talked about his wife, Pat and sons Nick and Andy, daughter Sarah and of course, daughterin-law Janelle on a regular basis. He was especially proud when Janelle became an IMTA employee and Nick an IMTA intern. Dan proudly would have his sons accompany him to various IMTA events and activities. They quickly became valued part of the IMTA family.

SO tonight we have the privilege to honor Dan and thank him for the remarkable service he gave to IMTA. And while he may not be here to walk across the stage and accept the highest award that is given through IMTA, the President’s Service Award. He is here in spirit and I am certain, smiling down on us in great pride and satisfaction in knowing he left his mark, his imprint on this organization and on the hearts of all of us. This award is opportunity for us to honor Dan but more importantly to THANK Dan for his tremendous service and dedication to IMTA. He set the bar high and we are all better people for knowing and working w/our beloved colleague and friend Dan Stevens. Dan carried a bible verse with him at all times and I felt that it most fittingly summarizes the person Dan was and the leader he had become.

In the late 1990’s the President’s Service Award was established to recognize an individual that not only provided exceptional service to the association but went above and beyond in their service to the industry as a whole too. Recognized as IMTA’s highest award, it was determined that the award would be only given out when it was deemed appropriate which would add to the prestige and significance of the award to the recipient. The following individuals have been honored with this award since its inception and it is with great pleasure that IMTA recognizes these folks for their tremendous service and leadership. 2001 – Mr. Bob Kohlwes BTI Special Commodities 2003 – Mr. Vern Simpson Mid Seven Transportation 2004 – Mr. Bill Smith Smithway Motor Xpress, Inc. PAC Fundraiser Recap Funds Raised for Truck PAC Iowa IMTA members hit the road dressed in leathers and once again successfully raised over $2800 for Truck PAC Iowa. The annual fall bike and vintage car VICTORY TOUR attracted over 40 participants and offered a fun and enjoyable opportunity for networking and fundraising. This year’s VICTORY TOUR meandered through southern Iowa and offered participants an enjoyable day with stops in scenic Lacona, Melrose, Lavilia and Pella. Delwin Van Wyk, Interstate Power Systems and Greg Olinger, Manatt’s once again organized the outstanding event and provided a great day for everyone. In addition to the motorcycles and vintage cars, IMTA member Kenny Niece once again provided his RV as the official sag wagon for the event and made more than one spectator stop and notice the caravan.

“This is always a great way to support the PAC as well as have a nice outing with fellow IMTA members,” said IMTA Chairman Jeff Wangsness. While most IMTA members took part in the entire event, several joined the group at stops close to their respective companies and showed their support of the leather clad group. This annual bike ride has been held for over 15 years and continues to be a nice fundraiser for Truck PAC Iowa. In addition to raising money for the PAC, it also attracts members that may not participate in other IMTA activities and allows everyone the opportunity to show their support of the PAC. “We have found that this event creates an additional set of contributors to the PAC and their continued support throughout the year is extremely valuable and appreciated,” said PAC Chairman Ralph Arthur, Ruan Transportation Management Systems. “Our intent is to create a safe and fun event that also raises money for the PAC and as long as we continue to have members who are interested in participating, we will continue to have this annual fall tradition,” said IMTA President Brenda Neville.

wife’s family lived and operated a ready mix company. He started working in a family operation and eventually had the opportunity to buy into the company in 1989. That business was sold in 1994 which is when Jeff started JMT Trucking. The name stands for Jeff and his two sons, Mitchell and Tyler. Within two short years and an acquisition of another company, JMT was up to just under 20 trucks and steady

Jeff quickly credits his employees and investment partners to his ongoing success and never forgets where he came from. “I am just a good old farm boy at heart and truly believe that if you treat people the way you want to be treated you can be very successful at anything you do. I try to do that with my employees, my customers, business colleagues and anyone I come in contact with.” Jeff has a core group of employees that have been with him since the beginning and he feels very blessed to have them as part of his operation. He also has an outstanding group of drivers that continue to make the company a successful operation.

“I am honored and humbled to be the Chairman of the Board for IMTA, especially when I look at the list of all the great folks that have served before me.” Bettendorf. Jeff developed a deep love for farming as he spent his summer’s traveling back to the Decorah area. That is where he learned to farm with his uncle on the Wangsness family farm. Jeff had aspirations of being a farmer but with advice from his uncle he needed a backup plan. He attended Northwest Missouri State University where he received a degree in Agricultural business. From there he quickly got a job in the farm finance world and thought that was his calling. However, the mid 1980s was not the ideal time to be in the farm credit world and he eventually ended up in Central Iowa where his

growth has continued ever since. Today the company has 65 trucks in its fleet and 70 valued employees. JMT Trucking is a central Iowa based intrastate carrier of any and all construction related materials. They are respected throughout the industry because of their commitment to quality service and that is evident in many ways; the updated equipment they always stock their fleet with to their follow up with customers and their willingness to always get the job done right. “Customer service is our number one priority and while that may sound like

Chairman’s Spotlight “I have always been a strong believer that in order to get something out of my membership, I had to give something back and be involved,” said Jeff. Chairman Wangsness making his acceptance speech.

“This is tough work with a lot of demands because of the nature of the construction industry. We also only have a limited number of months in which to make a profit so we push it hard and without the right mix of employees, we simply would not be able to operate so I am always very grateful and aware of the value of a good group of employees,” said Jeff. Jeff first got involved with IMTA in the early 1990s when he had some questions on regulatory and compliance topics. He was directed to call the IMTA for some guidance and immediately determined he needed to be a member of the association. “I was amazed at the wealth of information they were willing to share with me and for a company of my size, it was extremely important to have access and assistance especially when it came to the regulations. Over time, I also discovered their value in providing a legislative presence and can’t imagine not being a member of the association.” Within a year of being a member of the association, Jeff got involved in some committee work and moved onto the Board of Directors. He was the first board member representing the construction industry and given some of the legislative issues brewing at the time, it was of great value to have an intrastate carrier and a construction related carrier on the board. The value has continued over the years

and Jeff quickly became a valued voice for that segment of the membership and worked diligently to recruit folks to the association and promote the value of IMTA to intrastate carriers. “I have always been a strong believer that in order to get something out of my membership, I had to give something back and be involved. I feel this is the best way to not only get a return on my investment but also an opportunity to learn from my peers and take it one step further and pass it on to others in the industry. That has been my guiding philosophy with any organization that I am a part of and it has served me well over the years,” said Jeff. Like many others in the industry, Jeff is motivated to go to work each day in an effort to provide a good pay check not only to himself but to all of his employees as well. He is also motivated by the challenges that continue to be a part of working in this industry. Finding solutions to those challenges and operating a small business in today’s world provides Jeff with a great deal of satisfaction and pride.

as a whole. Not only does the trucking industry provide a service that is arguably the best there is in every way you look at it, we also provide really good jobs to a lot of really good people. The impact that trucking has on the overall economy is huge and I think too often that important fact is lost with our decision makers and I am always anxious to drive that fact home. I think that is what really moved me to get involved in the association as well as other associations that serve the construction industry. I am truly an association guy which will help me a great deal as I move into the IMTA chairmanship.” As Chairman of the Board Jeff looks forward to reaching out to the current

Chaiman’s Spotlight members as well as prospective members. He believes that he is in a unique position as an intrastate carrier as well as a dump truck operation to attract some new members into the mix and he looks forward to the opportunity to get people involved with IMTA. Jeff is also very involved in the legislative efforts of IMTA and is no stranger to the state Capitol. He is very well versed on the road funding issues that are plaguing Iowa and looks forward to the opportunity to work with legislators as well as IMTA members throughout the 2012 legislative session. His third area of passion is the IMTA building. Jeff has served on the building committee for the last three years and served as the chairman of the committee for two of those years. Through Jeff’s leadership, the committee has done some tremendous work and will be kicking off a major capitol drive within the next few months. “Our building is our biggest asset and while it is only 16 years old, it is imperative that we continue to invest in our headquarters and ensure that it will always be the trucking industry’s prominent symbol and presence of unity at the foot of the state capitol.”

The Wangsness Family (left to right): son, Mitchell; daughter-in-law, Kelly; wife, Shelley; grandson, Brody; Jeff Wangsness; and son, Tyler.

Jeff is excited to serve as the chairman of IMTA and will be another visible and active leader for the association. “I will always challenge people to get involved because you only will get out of your association what you put into it and believe me, getting a return on that investment is extremely easy and will be the best business decision you could ever make.”

I am truly an association guy which will help me a great deal as I move into the IMTA chairmanship,” said Jeff.

Convention Recap The Challenge of Change, the Time is Now!

Adam Clark, Midwest Wheel Companies visits with Bill Frasor, ATA Regional Vice President before the Chairman’s Banquet.

Since 1942, the Iowa Motor Truck Association has been celebrating the end of its year with the annual management conference. A theme connected with challenges and change has been a common thread throughout the decades of annual meetings and conventions for the association. However, this year it was especially poignant as the economy was slowly rebounding and cautious optimism was another common characteristic of today’s trucking industry. So the 2011 convention committee spent a great deal of time working on an appropriate

theme and once they found the one that felt right, they went to work to build a program around the theme. This year’s conference played up the theme of renewed optimism and hope and this was heard in the messages delivered by motivational speakers Aaron Thomas and Chad Hennings. The theme was also carried through with the educational sessions focusing on a future full of changes yet opportunities; economics, domestic energy issues and social networking. And the final piece of the puzzle to support the theme was to inject some fun and positive energy into the event, which was produced in a unique, one of a kind music video featuring IMTA members. This was indeed another great success and the members that took part in the 2011 management conference once again were given the opportunity to participate in all the activities and even more importantly reunite with business colleagues, friends and associates. A special thanks to Delwin Van Wyk and his committee for organizing another great conference and for creating ongoing pride and support for the Iowa Motor Truck Association.

Trucks Spreading a Positive Message Trucking is a very aggressive and determined industry. Many companies run their operations lean and mean while keeping a focused eye on the bottom line. But there is another side of the industry that can get overshadowed by many of the dayto-day battles waged in every business. It’s a type of generosity that holds no monetary value, yet speaks so powerfully to just how supportive trucking is of its communities and country. Two IMTA members in particular have recently done some work that visibly reminds us of trucking’s commitment to excellence and preservation of the things that are cherished by many. Johnsrud Transport and TanTara Transportation Corp. have both spent tens of thousands of dollars within the last several months to develop trucks that symbolize qualities of their businesses and lives that make them proud to be Iowans and Americans.

Riggan Gives HawkOne a Makeover

More than 25 years after making his first trip, he’s still going. Only now, he’s doing it in a new set of wheels. Mike Riggan, president of TanTara Transportation Corp. in Muscatine, has been driving HawkOne since 1985, hauling the University of Iowa football team equipment to all away games each fall. It’s a task he now splits with his oldest son, Jeff Riggan, in a truck that has evolved into a rolling tribute to their beloved Hawkeyes. Made public before the October 15 home game against Northwestern, Mike Riggan revealed the newest HawkOne that depicts everything there is to love about Iowa football and literally shouts “It’s Great to be a Hawkeye!” The fifth-generation tractor and trailer is highlighted by a large Hawkeye logo centered on each side of the trailer, which also features a football Herky wearing the No. 24 jersey of Nile Kinnick – Iowa’s only Heisman Trophy winner. The top of the trailer has the Iowa football field painted on it, and the backside of truck cab is adorned with a mural of a sold out Kinnick Stadium night game just before kickoff.

With the only real form of compensation being gameday passes and lifelong friendships with coaches and players, investing in the Hawkeye truck on a continual basis is a contribution that stems from a passion for a team and school Mike Riggan and his family love and support unconditionally.

Trucks Spreading a Positive Message Johnsrud Transport Displays its Patriotism Veteran’s Day is a very uplifting occasion in the United States. Recognizing the men and women of America’s Armed Forces has always been a special and rewarding tribute. It’s especially gratifying for companies such as Johnsrud Transport that employ a large majority of Veterans. With 45 percent of the company’s 170 employees having served in the military, Johnsrud Transport was compelled to do something that would exhibit its

appreciation for the countless men and women who commit their lives to protect our freedom and rights. After careful consideration and countless hours preparing, the Des Moines-based bulk liquid transporter unveiled on Veteran’s Day four trucks that were outfitted with patriotic graphics to acknowledge America’s veterans and current soldiers. Each truck is custom designed with the American flag waving behind pictures of soldiers from all branches of the military

(Army, Navy, Air Force and the Marines). The hoods of each truck also feature the face of a bald eagle – an iconic representation of the United States of America. Only Veterans will sit behind the wheels of these commemorative trucks that replace the recently retired red, white and blue units Johnsrud Transport previously operated.

Final Word Tis the Season....Are You Feeling Charitable?

The Christmas season is now upon us and with the season comes the barrage of charities that are implementing full blown fundraising campaigns. Don’t get me wrong, all of these campaigns are of value and in most cases, especially the local charities, most of the money raised or the items Dave Dickey donated are Harold Dickey Transport going directly to the charity. Many IMTA members jump on board with a charity or two during the holiday season and get the entire office involved. Which is very typical of our industry, we are very reliable when it comes to good causes. However, I am going to challenge you to consider giving to another good cause and it doesn’t have to be restricted to the holiday season. Have you ever thought about giving even more to your association? I know some of you that are reading this are quickly figuring out in your head the amount of money you give to IMTA through dues, registration fees and other things related to the association. And while IMTA is not the first organization that comes to mind when you think of a valid charity to support, I am hopeful it will be after you read this editorial. Have you ever considered making an annual contribution to the Foundation or maybe even the PAC? If political giving isn’t your thing, we have the option of supporting the Trucking Victory Fund which accepts corporate dollars and helps pay for the expenses associated with our PAC fundraising efforts. I know for many of us, the last several years have not been exactly stellar for the industry and many of us simply were

not in the giving mood. But I think too often, we forget that the Foundation and Truck PAC Iowa serve a vitally important purpose and the only financial support that these organizations receive is through donations by the membership.

a contribution of any size is appreciated and valued. We have some members that do $100 a month while others make one contribution a year. This is part of the political process and extra dollars are always needed for Truck PAC Iowa.

The Foundation was established by the late Vern Simpson over 20 years ago and it was set up to provide scholarships to students that were pursuing a higher education in Iowa. The only criterion connected with the scholarship application is that the applicant MUST attend a college or university in Iowa. Over the years, we have invested in a number of young students by awarding a $1000 scholarship. In the scheme of college tuition, every little bit helps and it is with great pride the trucking industry has continued to invest in this program and these individuals. Fortunately, over the years, families, individuals and businesses have made some very significant donations to the Foundation but like any charity….more is always needed. To establish an endowed scholarship a contribution of $10,000 is needed. But a contribution of any size is appreciated and will most certainly go to good use. We have a couple of members that are looking at investing $100 per month and others will give $1000 a year. Every dollar is appreciated and is of great value as we continually try to build this foundation fund. A contribution to the Foundation is tax deductible too.

We also have the Truck Victory Fund that was established a few years ago to accept corporate checks. This money is used to offset the expenses associated with putting on PAC fundraising events. A portion of this contribution is deductible but not the entire amount since it is associated with our PAC.

If the Foundation isn’t your thing, consider writing a personal check to our Political Action Committee. This money goes to good use as well as we invest in the lawmakers that will invest in business in the State of Iowa. This contribution is not tax-deductible but will certainly make a valuable difference as we move into an election year. The process of investing PAC dollars on a candidate is not taken lightly. We do a lot of homework and really do our best to invest these dollars in the candidates or legislators that will be good for business and the trucking industry. Our PAC is another valuable tool that enables IMTA to continue to effectively represent the industry. Again,

These are three very worthwhile and significant ways to make a difference within the trucking industry and every dollar donated makes an impact. Giving away our hard earned cash is never something we like to do but as one generous IMTA member wrote on a note attached to a $100 foundation check, “This industry has been so good to me that I felt that I needed to give something back to it and I found this to be a most appropriate way to show my gratitude”. Sort of makes sense doesn’t it? Have a blessed holiday season and thank you for considering a contribution to the Foundation, the PAC or the Victory Fund. You won’t be sorry.
