ith the end of our fiscal year, Friends of the HarlanLincoln House reports a busy year of tours, events and special guests. The House received a new coat of paint on two sides; the executive committee held planning sessions to organize priorities for the future,

n honor of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, reporter Kate Allt, of KTVO TV, came to the Harlan-Lincoln House to tape and write a piece entitled “Mount Pleasant: the Second Land of Lincoln.” Allt interviewed director Lynn Ellsworth and docents Patricia File and Joyce Miller about the history of the House. Brown Bag Lecture Series Again Successful The March series of presentations during the lunch hour was wellreceived, with an average of 48 people attending. Love and Valor Film Event Charles Larimer, producer and director of the film Love and Valor: The Intimate Civil War Letters, generously shared the final edit version of the film on May 17 to benefit the Friends of the Harlan-Lincoln House. After the film viewing, the audience had an opportunity to ask Larimer questions, followed by a reception in the foyer of the Iowa Wesleyan College Chapel. Hildene visitors tour campus, community

n February, the Friends of the Harlan-Lincoln House Executive Committee hosted visitors from Hildene, the Lincoln family home in Manchester, Vermont. Director Seth Bongartz and Deputy Director Laine Dunham received an Iowa welcome with dinner at the home of Richard and Elizabeth Garrels, visits to the Iowa Wesleyan College Archives and the Harlan-Lincoln House, a walk through the historic Iowa Wesleyan campus, and a driving tour of Harlan and Lincoln sites around Mount Pleasant. They were complimentary about the Harlan-Lincoln House, campus and community and noted the rich history of Iowa Wesleyan College. The more than 10-year creative
By the Numbers During the past fiscal year, Friends of the Harlan-Lincoln House gave 48 tours, hosted four open houses and sponsored six events. The total number of people served was 844. Springfield Curator Visits Susan Haake, Curator of the Lincoln Home National Historic Site, stopped to tour the HarlanLincoln House on her way to the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library in West Branch, Iowa, to help with an inventory project. Stating that she had long been
curious about Mary Harlan’s home and hometown, she decided this would be a good opportunity to visit. Director Lynn Ellsworth took her for the tour and noted that this was another good connection in the Lincoln world for Friends of the Harlan-Lincoln House. a
