Be bold.

An education should inform and enlighten. But it should inspire and empower, too. At Iowa Wesleyan University, you will be spurred by an active, purposeful education, one that will challenge you, excite you – and embolden you. In a uniquely encouraging community, you will explore and discover your unique potential. You will identify your passion and pursue it with a rigorous, relevant curriculum. And, as all do at IW, you will give practice and meaning to your learning; as you actively work and serve in the community. You will acquire knowledge. You will gain experience. You will unearth a larger vision for your life. Prepared to succeed, inspired to make a difference, you will set out into the world a better and bolder you.

A BOLD TRADITION We are one of the nation’s most historic and boldest institutions. From IW emerged the nation’s first female attorney; the first female commander of the International Space Station; one of the first centers for service-learning (we are currently ranked the top university in the country for our commitment to service), and more.

IW is one of the oldest four-year, coeducational, church-related liberal arts universities west of the Mississippi River.

Be inspired.

IW is a university that offers huge encouragement. Our classrooms average just 10 students, creating close relationships with professors who will teach you, mentor you, and inspire you. Challenged to be your best, supported in every way, you will step out as never before – engaging, taking risks, and developing into a bold, confident leader. You’ll learn about your chosen field, but you’ll learn about social justice and servant leadership, too. You’ll find knowledge. You’ll find meaning. You’ll find inspiration – for a deeper, more purposeful life.

COME LEAD Helping students to develop into confident leaders is a central purpose of an Iowa Wesleyan education. Here, students find many ways to get involved and lead – from curricular pursuits, to more than 20 student clubs and service opportunities.

Be active.

Ours is a hands-on, immersive education at IW. Students actively engage in the learning process. Our classrooms are alive with debate and discussion. Service-learning is integrated throughout the curriculum. Internships and other field experiences are part of every major. On our smaller campus, students find all kinds of opportunities to participate and lead. Why all this emphasis on experiential learning? Because research shows engaged students are more successful students. They’re experienced. They’re prepared. They are ready for the world.

ACTIVE CLASSROOMS Instead of sitting back and taking in a lecture, you’ll actively engage in the classroom at Iowa Wesleyan. In small, interactive classes, you’ll share in class discussions; participate in activities and demonstrations; and collaborate with other students and your professors.

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM With additional opportunities such as internships, service-learning, field trips, and course-related campus events and speakers; you will deepen your understanding of lessons learned in the classroom.

Be relevant.

ANDREW TERRELL ’17 | PRE-MED MAJOR ATLANTA, GA

“At IW, you have the full attention of your professors – versus a larger school where you might have 100 students in your class. In classrooms, and in labs, our instructors work individually with each student, making for a better academic experience.” SPORT Football

Be real.

IW students learn in the real world. Through field experiences, internships, service-learning, civic engagement programs, and more, our students are able to take what they learn in the classroom and apply it alongside seasoned professionals, in an actual work environment. When they’re not gaining work experience, many IW students are experiencing study abroad, acquiring a broader, more informed perspective of the world. All of these experiences make for a deeper, more practical education – and provide a “real” advantage for all Iowa Wesleyan graduates.

PRACTICAL INTERNSHIPS All IW students complete at least one internship or field experience before graduation. These professional, hands-on experiences enable students to gain invaluable firsthand experience in their fields, while developing new skills and creating professional networks.

INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE A wide range of study abroad opportunities are available to IW students through the University and a local consortium; including programs in Austria, England, France, Ghana, Mexico, the Netherlands, Spain, and Wales. With 15 countries represented on campus and a partnership with Central College abroad; a world of opportunities awaits you for international study. 15

CHRISTIAN HENDRIKSON

Be of service.

’18 | BIOLOGY MAJOR MOUNT PLEASANT, IOWA

“My experience at Iowa Wesleyan University has been one of immense growth in the two years that I have attended. As an on-campus student, my friends and I are surrounded by professors and administrators who encourage and remind us to step out of our comfort zones daily. It is through their influence and the influence of others that I have grown in my thought processes, communication, leadership, and confidence, to name a few! It’s at Iowa Wesleyan that you will find the small-town atmosphere of a University in which you’re not a number in a lecture hall, or one briefly mentioned as you walk down the aisle to receive your diploma. You are a student, a scholar, a Tiger, who will find excellent and caring professors, a vibrant campus community, and the ability to make an impression regardless of who you are, or where you’re from.”

IW is ranked among the best in the country for its commitment to community service. In our highly acclaimed service-learning program, you will serve, and you will learn. As you master course concepts by engaging in service opportunities in the community, you have the opportunity to focus on community development, social justice, and human welfare. You will connect your classroom learning to the real world. You will grow as a servant leader. You will change the lives of others. In the process, you will be changed, too.

GETTING INVOLVED From the band to Tiger Athletics, there is an activity for everyone to be involved.
