Graham White awarded the 2013 Pierre De Celles Award for Excellence in Teaching Public Administration Montreal, August 20, 2013 – The Institute of Public Administration of Canada is pleased to announce the winner of the 2012 Pierre De Celles Award for Excellence in Teaching Public Administration: Graham White Professor of Political Science at the University of Toronto. Professor White is renowned for his path-breaking academic research and teaching in the politics of the Canadian Artic and has established himself as a leader in the fields of democratic theory, Aboriginal politics and public administration. An extremely gifted lecturer, Professor White has successfully mentored generations of graduate students and public administration professionals through his dedication to the advancement of the practice and theory public administration and through his work ethic. Professor Louis Pauly, Chair of the Department of Political Science at the University of Toronto noted “Graham is known for his ‘active mentorship’ – the sort of doctoral supervisor who combines rigour and high standards with enormous generosity of spirit.” Professor White’s engagement outside of teaching included a long-standing relationship with the Ontario Legislative Internship Program, extensive consulting with all levels of government in Ontario, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories, and media appearances. The Pierre De Celles is sponsored by IPAC’s Endowment Fund, and honours the memory of Professor Pierre De Celles, former Director of l’École Nationale d’Administration Publique (ENAP), and President-elect of IPAC at the time of his death in 2000. The award recognizes exceptionally talented and creative teachers who show dedication to improving public administration education through innovative teaching. By demonstrating an interest in many aspects of public administration, recipients are able to reach a wide array of students. Founded in 1947, IPAC is a dynamic association of public servants, academics, and individuals dedicated to excellence in the field of public administration. It is a member based organization, with 18 regional groups across Canada, which creates effective knowledge networks and leading public administration research in Canada. IPAC is also a major player in exporting successful Canadian public sector expertise around the world.
