Produce Greater Marketing Results Take responsibility for preshow marketing. Cover to cover, this guide is packed with valuable ideas for every budget, especially because many of the exclusive tools are FREE! Incorporate the tips below, and throughout this guide, into your marketing plan for added value and greater marketing results.

1.

Preshow MAILINGS Get noticed! Preshow flyers, brochures, letters, invitations, etc. have proven themselves over time as the most effective means to attract potential buyers.

3.

To increase the success of your preshow mailing: • CREATE A SENSE OF URGENCY Place a short teaser message on the outer envelope. • GET PERSONAL A personalized mailing receives greater response. The individual’s name should be imprinted on the envelope and letter. • INCLUDE A CALL TO ACTION Enclose a response card in your mailing. Ask prospects to bring the card to your booth to receive an exciting FREE gift. • EMPHASIZE EXCLUSIVITY Give your prospects an exclusive opportunity to see your new products and services at the show with a personal appointment!

2.

• VIP TREATMENT Whether they are current or potential customers, let them know how important they are by including a VIP Pass (request them for FREE on page 19). As a VIP of your company, they enjoy admittance to the exhibit hall floor, evening show floor reception and keynotes for FREE! Online Exhibit Hall Take advantage of all the free marketing benefits in the new Online Exhibit Hall ! (See page 8 for details).

SALES CALLS Educate your sales staff about this event. Share the important attendee information pages found on the show Web site, www.IPCAPEXEXPO.org (such as information about registration, hotel and travel, and Las Vegas). Have these team members actively promote your presence while booking valuable face-to-face time with prospects and customers.

4.

MEDIA RELEASES Create and distribute media releases regarding your new products and/or services. Announce opportunities to meet top management and to set up sales appointments at the show.

5.

ADVERTISING Placing ads with your booth number and show graphics (page 18) early and often in industry publications lays the groundwork for your marketing message. Supplement your publication ads with an advertisement in the event’s Show Directory.

6.

7.

FREE STUFF When properly used, promotional items (encompassing anything you can put a logo on) serve as a reminder of your theme and an extension of your marketing message.

USE THE SHOW LOGO If you are running ads or developing show-specific marketing pieces, use the IPC APEX EXPO logo to promote awareness of where to find you! (See page 18 for information on downloading FREE show graphics.)

8.

CONNECT THEM TO THE SHOW Show your support while promoting your own presence with a link from your company Web site to the event Web site. (See page 18 for information on downloading FREE graphics for the event.)

Media Information

Reach Qualified Prospects Through the Trade Press An inexpensive way to reach qualified prospects and get them to your booth is through the trade press. Increase your exposure regionally and internationally. Here are some easy activities you can initiate to gain favorable targeted coverage in various trade media.

PRESHOW PUBLICITY

How To Write A Media Release

News Release Upload your company’s news releases into the online exhibit hall (page 8), and send the news releases to all publications that support the show (pages 25-26).

When writing a media release, it is helpful to follow these guidelines to ensure that your piece is published:

ON-SITE PUBLICITY Media Kits Deliver a supply of your media kits to IPC’s press office on-site. Members of the media stop there before touring the exhibit floor. Material can be dropped off in the press office beginning Tuesday, March 31. The office will be staffed during show hours.

• •

Press Conferences Schedule a press conference to announce major changes in management, ownership, mergers, buyouts, etc. New product announcements or changes in existing products are good topics for a briefing, but be careful not to package a small change as a big one. To schedule a press conference, use the form on the next page. Requests must be received before February 28, 2009.

• •

Make sure lines of type are double-spaced. Use proper capitalization. Decide which publications should receive your release, then contact them to find out their deadlines. See the supporting trade publications’ contact names and addresses in this section of the manual. Include the following information in your piece: - Your company name and the individual/group submitting the release. - The purpose of the release (new company, expansion, merger, new product, financial happenings, etc.). - An upcoming event/product release, including the day and month. - Include your organization’s contact person and phone number at the top of the page. Make sure the release follows the form of a news article. Its purpose is to inform the reader, beginning with the most pertinent information, targeted and brief. If you include a photo with your release, identify everyone in the photo from left to right. Do not try to sell anything in your media release. It is for informational and newsworthy purposes only.

Corporate Awards In 2007, IPC introduced two new awards: the Peter Sarmanian and Stan Plzak Corporate Recognition Awards, to recognize the contributions and support of companies. IPC Peter Sarmanian Corporate Recognition Award Named for past IPC Board Chairman Peter Sarmanian (former president of Printed Circuit Corp) this award recognizes an IPC member corporation in the printed board industry that has taken a leadership role and made contributions to the industry while demonstrating support of IPC through participation in technical and/or management programs. Previous recepients: 2008 Colonial Circuits Inc.; 2007 Rockwell Collins. IPC Stan Plzak Corporate Recognition Award Named for past IPC Board Chairman Stan Plzak (former president of Pensar Corporation and a founding member of the IPC Electronics Manufacturing Services Industry Management Council). This award honors a corporation (or division) in the electronics assembly industry (supplier, EMS company or OEM) that has taken initiative to actively contribute to enhancing the industry while demonstrating support of IPC through participation in technical and/or management programs. Previous recepients: 2008 Lockheed Martin; 2007 L-3 Communications. In addition to these corporate awards, IPC seeks to recognize the contributions of our many volunteers. The awards will be presented at the show luncheons taking place Monday, March 30 through Wednesday, April 1.

Individual Awards The IPC Raymond E. Pritchard Hall of Fame Award is given to an individual in recognition of the highest level of achievement, extraordinary contributions and distinguished service to IPC. The nominee must support the advancement of the industry, including a spirit of mutual esteem and respect among members. The President’s Award is given to IPC members who have exhibited ongoing leadership in IPC and have made significant contributions to the association and the electronics interconnect industry. Individuals may receive this award only once. Committee Leadership Awards are presented to committee chairs upon completion of a standard or specific program. Any chair is eligible. This award can also be presented to an outgoing chairman who has made contributions over a period of time. Distinguished Committee Service (DCS) Awards are presented to IPC committee members who have made an exceptional contribution to a specific standard or other IPC program. Any person who is actively involved on an IPC committee is eligible, except members of the IPC board. The Special Recognition Award is given to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to an IPC program or to the industry. Individuals or companies receiving special recognition awards for work on a standard will have provided an extra level of assistance beyond the DCS level. Nominations must include the name and company of the candidate and a statement describing how the nominee meets award criteria, what the contribution was or why the member deserves recognition.
