W E LC O M E Dear Readers,

At this time, I would like to offer my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of John Meale, our featured Mini Miglia Racing Driving who passed away six weeks after I interviewed him. With the support of John’s family, we have added details and now share a small window of his passion. John explained that he lived his dream...

can bite and with that in mind, our designers have been busy; we meet some exceptional people and share their creative journeys from London to Lagos, from the catwalk to the stage this month.

This is a new era for us to embrace change. Take each challenge and break it down into manageable chunks. Our lives are different now. Nothing can be taken for granted.

Our celebrity milliner, Edwina Ibbotson, has taken time out of her busy schedule to share her work in a creative fashion in our exclusive fashion feature. There is so much to share!

Wishing you a healthy October with a warm smile and some romantic style.

There is nothing better than wrapping up on a chilly morning to walk through the trees as the sun comes up. Colours mellow and hues build as autumn gives us the last summer sounds, and plants follow their natural cycle and move on. MAKE A SPLASH

A MAGICAL

TRANSFORMATION

Like a scene from Harry Potter, the first school uniforms emerged in a very strange way; back in the 16th Century a new type of school was formed in the old Newgate Prison building. Patrons of royals such as King Henry VIII and wealthy land owners realised a need to offer a safe place for the children on the street. Supported by a young King Edward VI, the school opened in 1552 offering a new beginning in the community for

HATS AT HOME

TRANSFORMATIONAL STITCHES WITH NINA DALES Our resident florist, Nina Dales, from ‘Symphony of Flowers’ takes an old hat to a new place. Using a just a few materials embroidery silks, an embroidery hoop, a needle, a glue gun (or multipurpose glue), and a few beads sequins, Nina gives us a run through to show how she repurposed this old hat into something new. Taking a step into the unknown, Nina started by setting some off cut of fabric into an embroidery hoop. The inner hoop starts under the fabric and the outer ring sits on top of the material. As the upper ring is tightened pull the fabric lightly around the edge until the centre is taut, like the skin of a drum. Lightly mark the shape in pencil you want to create on your hat, and choose the thread you would like to use. Use a satin stitch to fill the section in each colour, like painting a picture. Some French knots will help add further texture to the pattern. Once each shape is completely filled with stitches cut each pattern out and pin in on your hat. A word of caution, always choose the locations carefully, adding more shapes until you are happy with the formation, cutting each piece close to the stitching. If your sewing skills aren’t quite up to it, the shapes and embellishments may be glued on to the hat instead.
