CEA

TAKEUCHI JOIN THE CESAR ECV GREEN REVOLUTION From February 2022, Takeuchi Mfg UK Ltd will include the enhanced CESAR ECV (Emission Compliance Verification) system as standard across the full Takeuchi line up.

S

ince 2008, Takeuchi Mfg UK Ltd has fitted the CESAR scheme to their full line up of machinery and following the recent achievement of Stage V compliance on all its models up to 15 tonnes, Takeuchi will now include the CESAR ECV bolt-on product as standard, providing accurate emissions information to their customers.

Following the significant success of the CESAR security scheme, the CEA recognised an opportunity to add emissions verification to the existing scheme. With the help of Datatag, CESAR ECV (Emission Compliance Verification) was developed to create an easy and reliable way to confirm the emissions category of construction equipment. ECV uses tamper-evident colour-coded labels with a unique alpha/numeric code, which is also linked securely to a machine’s unique CESAR identity and ensures complete integrity of the system.

Hitoshi Arai Managing Director, Takeuchi Mfg UK Ltd “As a leading supplier in the construction equipment sector, we are constantly looking at environmental impacts of our machines. Takeuchi has been Stage V ready since 2020 across the entire range and the new CESAR ECV system confirms this. For our customers, this will be essential on-site to manage largescale projects and multiple contractors ensuring plant on-site is as ‘clean’ as is possible”. Suneeta Johal, Chief Executive Officer, Construction Equipment Association. “Since the launch of the CESAR ECV system in 2019 the scheme has seen significant growth across the industry and this has been strengthened further with the introduction of CESAR ECV. It is great to have Takeuchi Mfg UK on board with the scheme and making emissions easier to understand across the construction industry.”

Kevin Howells, CEO, Datatag ID Ltd “Takeuchi has been a key partner of the CESAR Scheme since 2008 and with the addition of the new CESAR ECV system, it will provide another level of critical information for their customers. The ECV system is linked to a secure online portal where machine and engine data can easily be shared regarding emissions status of a machine greatly reducing admin and on-site inspection difficulties with whoever needs this information and environmental reassurance.” www.thecea.org.uk

VOLVO CE

VOLVO CE DEVELOPS FULL POWER OF ELECTRIC ECOSYSTEM WITH E-WORKSITE A groundbreaking research project with Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) and partners to explore every aspect of the electric ecosystem is helping to deliver a complete site solution for real urban applications.

The L25 Electric offers zero exhaust emissions and low noise.

T

ogether with multiple municipalities, cities and academic and industry partners, Volvo CE is thoroughly testing every part of how an electric machine is put to work from a system perspective – from charging infrastructure through to energy supply and more. The Electric Worksite (E-Worksite), which launched earlier this year in Gothenburg, Sweden, not only sets the global benchmark for electric jobsites but also tests electric machines’ specific requirements across different tasks within a demanding urban environment. It is a vital next step in the manufacturer’s electrification journey and a testament to its commitment to achieving zero net value chain greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, as validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative.

02 - Construction Equipment - MARCH 2022

6

Carolina Diez Ferrer, Head of Advanced Engineering Programs, at Volvo CE, says: “We are already delivering electric solutions that offer zero exhaust emissions, reduced noise, and a much more comfortable work environment, but that is only half the challenge. We are committed to also helping our customers reach their own climate goals through complete site solutions with a holistic sustainable approach. This exciting partnership allows for a comprehensive investigation into the varied infrastructure and support system needs for electric machines to really perform to their best, no matter the task at hand.” Innovation powered by partnership E-Worksite is a long-running research project that explores the site requirements for electro mobility over the next two years across a variety of different applications. It has now completed the

development of a new recreation area within the major city park Färjenäsparken and is currently working on the redesign of the Drottningtorget city square, both in the heart of Gothenburg, the second largest city in Sweden. Here, the customer transformation from diesel machines into more sustainable environmental solutions is guided by a fully holistic exploration of every aspect of site management. The project is funded by the Swedish Energy Agency, with Volvo CE working in close collaboration with Gothenburg City, NCC, Gothenburg Energy, Lindholmen Science Park, Chalmers University of Technology and ABB Electrification Sweden, among many others to conduct a large scale machine demonstration in Gothenburg. Peter Lindgren, Business Developer Electrified Transports at the City of Gothenburg Urban Transport Administration, says: “To achieve the City

VOLVO CE

In the heart of Gothenburg, Sweden’s second-largest city, is the central square Drottningtorget where the L25 electric is being put to the test, offering zero exhaust emissions, reduced noise, and a much more comfortable work environment.

“We are committed to also helping our customers reach their own climate goals through complete site solutions with a holistic sustainable approach” says Carolina Diez Ferrer, here at one of the construction sites in Gothenburg, Färjenäsparken.

of Gothenburg’s climate goals we need to reduce greenhouse gases and we see that electric construction machines will help us in this environmental work by reducing local emissions of both nitrogen oxides and particles, as well as noise. The partnership as part of the Electric Worksite is of great value and we see that this research project has the capacity required to speed up our green transformation.” In this first phase, a number of electric machines already available to buy on the market are being put to the test, including the L25 Electric wheel loader and ECR25 Electric excavator, which are carrying out minor construction work, material moving and landscaping. A larger 30-tonne gridconnected excavator will be tasked with more energy-demanding jobs at different construction sites, to start in spring next year.

No one size fits all Project planners are answering questions such as how to ensure best value for money for customers and what are the most energy-efficient methods of supplying electricity to power the machines. Beyond the technology itself, business models, infrastructure and support systems, regulatory frameworks and a mindset change are all required on the road to full acceptance. It is a complex puzzle to solve as there will be no one size fits all. The findings will prove important not only for municipalities in deciding how to develop the appropriate legislation, but also for industry partners in bringing technical solutions to market – both in the immediate future and over the next two decades.

customers on how best to move forward in this transition” says Niklas Lindblom, Project Manager at Advanced Engineering Programs, Volvo CE. “Through this partnership we will be connecting all parts of the customer value chain in order to build up shared knowledge and innovation capabilities to ensure our electric future is fit for any construction challenge.” Launching the project in an urban application allows for a demonstration of the advantages electric machines bring to city life – low noise, low emissions and a much more peaceful environment for society in general. www.volvoce.com

emission regulations by utilising exhaust gas recirculation, selective catalyst reduction, diesel oxidation catalyst and diesel particulate filter (DPF) aftertreatment technologies.

Like all Doosan excavators, much attention has been given to operator comfort and safety. The DX1000LC-7 has a new, very spacious operator cab, equipped with ergonomic controls and instrumentation. Special care has been taken to ensure noise is kept to a minimum through enhanced sealing of the engine compartment and extensive use of sound-dampening materials.

Highest Hydraulic Flow in 100 t Class The high output of the engine is combined with a Virtual Bleed Off (VBO) hydraulic system (D-ECOPOWER+), and controlled by electric manipulator (FEH) providing a best-in-class hydraulic flow of (3x 523) 1569 l/min and a high system pressure of 360 bar, together contributing to the best performance in the 100 tonne market.

All components and assemblies are designed, built and tested to ensure durability. Multi-stage filters and features such as track guards and cylinder guards for the boom and arm, the auto grease system and greased and sealed track links are designed to provide superior reliability and a long service life. The DX1000LC-7 is easy to maintain, further reducing downtime to a minimum. Highest Power Stage V Engine in its Class The DX1000LC-7 excavator is powered by the new stage V version of the wellproven Perkins 2806J diesel engine, providing a high power output of 469 kW (629 HP), more than any other machine in this class. The engine meets Stage V

The DPF automatically regenerates every 25 hours and the excavator continues to work unaffected during this regeneration phase. The operator can check the status of the DPF via the display on the gauge panel in the cab.

Doosan’s D-ECOPOWER+ FEH technology utilises an electronic pressure-controlled pump within a closed centre hydraulic system to optimise productivity and fuel consumption, depending on the mode selected. A closed centred main control valve minimises pressure loss, while the electric pressure-controlled pump manages and optimises engine power more effectively. Software is utilised to electronically reproduce the full benefits of an open centre hydraulic system with very little energy loss. The hydraulic system and engine output are fully optimised and synchronised, further reducing losses within the system.

xplore owns a 150+ strong excavator fleet made up of Komatsu, Caterpillar, and Hitachi, ranging in size from 0.8 tonne to 36 tonne. The company continues to grow and renew its fleet and is committed to leading the way in site safety through the continued development of new innovative technologies and software. Xwatch Safety Solutions XW series is the company’s preferred height and slew limiting system and has been mandated on the Explore fleet of machines weighing 13 tonne and above for the last two years.

Chris Gatheridge, Head of Operations at Explore Plant and Transport Solutions, explained why he chose Xwatch Safety Solutions over competitors in the sector. “Dan Leanney (Xwatch) approached Explore with a product that was relatively new to market around two years ago. We trialled the Xwatch system on one of our eight-tonne machines and we were very impressed with its functionality and ease of use – the system basically does 02 - Construction Equipment - MARCH 2022

what it said on the tin! The system also represented excellent value for money and proved to be a good long-term investment with its reliability. As a general rule, we fit XWatch to all the machines 13 tonnes and above – we specify RCI (rated capacity indicator) as a minimum safety requirement, but we do have a number of machines with the full XW5 system which further adds height & slew limiters.” Chris added, “Our machines are working on many high profile Laing O’Rourke projects including Everton Football Club’s new football stadium, East-West Rail Alliance, and HS2, to name but a few, and reliability and ease of use on hire machines are key and the Xwatch safety systems deliver.” “The Xwatch system software is also very adaptable – for example – through a conversation with Dan we were able to adapt an XW system and it was installed on one of our 6 tonne cabbed dumpers.

XWATCH

The system alerts the driver and records its pitch and roll if it’s in danger of tipping over. Should it tip over (and we have not had a case yet), the engine will be isolated and through telematics, we would receive an email to notify us (and any construction manager!) that the dumper has been rolled while out on hire!” People plant interface is one of the top fatal risks identified in the construction industry – Explore’s commitment to safety prompted the company to approach the Xwatch team to develop a system which would integrate into a 3rd party camera – together the companies developed the “Explore AI Site Safety” which is powered by Presion BlindSight, Toolbox Spotter (TBS) hazard awareness system and Xwatch. The BlindSight system consists of multiple cameras fixed to the outside of an excavator, for example. When a person enters the camera’s safety exclusion zone it alerts the operator that there has been a breach - the Xwatch system

then overrides the operator’s input and significantly reduces the speed of the machine to protect the person that has entered into the exclusion zone. Once the person has left the exclusion zone, the machine returns to its previous state and the operation can safely resume. As well as reducing the slewing motion of the machine the system can also limit other motions such as boom or dipper operation. As the person enters the exclusion zone, the operator is alerted and the boom’s motion is reduced.

NEW SMART CREEP FOR CAT® D3 SERIES SKID STEER LOADERS AND COMPACT TRACK LOADERS MAXIMIZES WORK TOOL PRODUCTIVITY Caterpillar will soon launch a new smart creep feature for the full range of Cat® D3 Skid Steer Loaders (SSL) and Compact Track Loaders (CTL) for operating Cat cold planer and wheel saw attachments. Smart creep senses the load on the attachment and automatically adjusts the drive command to keep the cold planer or wheel saw running at the most productive speed.

A

combination of attachment sensors and proprietary software optimally balances attachment load and machine speed to maximize productivity. By continually sensing the load on the attachment, smart creep increases machine speed when encountering less resistance and automatically slows the machine when encountering higher load. Engine load remains constant, while the operator can monitor hydraulic pressure on the in-cab display panel.

software for operating the new feature will be made available for existing fleet loaders and attachments. Once commercially available, new cold planer and wheel saw purchases will be shipped from the factory with the required hardware installed, and new D3 SSL and CTL models will come smart creep ready from the factory. Smart creep takes the guess work out of setting the right creep speed for operating the attachment. Without the aid of this feature, setting creep speed too fast can lead to stalling the attachment, and too slow of speed results in productivity loss. Smart creep software smoothly and efficiently determines the optimal machine speed for cutting conditions.

speed on the advanced display inside the cab. Once the tool engages the cut, smart creep measures load on the attachment and adjusts the drive command automatically as cutting begins. In the event of the cutter jamming or stalling, an auto-reverse feature within smart creep quickly changes machine direction to allow the tool to clear the jam.

With this new smart attachment feature from Caterpillar, the operator needs only to activate the standard creep control system and set the maximum creep

Targeted availability for smart creep on Cat D3 SSL and CTL machines is the third quarter of 2022. A field installation kit consisting of sensors and machine

MANITOWOC CRANES

All the mod cons “Of course, I had a go and it is a very impressive machine with lots of new technology and benefits for the operator – all the modern conveniences and advances. Our operator, who previously worked with the 300 tonner, was also really impressed. The GMK6300L was already a good machine but this one has some great added extras,” he said. The operator’s superstructure cab on the GMK5250XL-1 is tiltable to approximately 20° and offers a commanding view of the jobsite. The operator’s seat has its own suspension and is fully adjustable with controls integrated into the armrest. Each control has been ergonomically arranged for the ultimate in comfort, accuracy and efficiency, while all crane movements are shown on the ideally positioned CCS graphic display. The load moment and independent anti-two block system with an audio-visual warning and control lever lockout also helps the operator stay in full control.

James Leishman, sales manager at Manitowoc UK, presents a ceremonial handover key to Stewart Dougall, director of Horizon Reinforcing & Crane Hire.

“The GMK5250XL-1 has practically the same boom length (78.5 m) as the GMK6300L (80 m) but on five-axles, so it just made sense. It’s got the best-inclass boom length and is efficient to set up – what I would call a good all-round, no nonsense crane,” said director Stewart Dougall, whose late grandfather founded Horizon Reinforcing in 1973. His father, aunt and three brothers also work at the company, making the business very much a family affair. Reliable and easy to assemble “The GMK6300L was a reliable, good machine for us that was so easy to assemble and never had a great deal of issues. On the rare occasion that we did have an issue, it was sorted out straight away. The engineers at Manitowoc are very helpful, as are the sales guys. We have a great relationship with them –

there are always reliable people to speak to, which gave us the trust and confidence to place an order for the GMK5250XL-1,” Stewart continued. The new GMK5250XL-1 all-terrain crane will also be quick and simple for Horizon Reinforcing to set up, thanks to the selfrigging auxiliary hoist and CCS (Crane Control System) with jog dial, boom configurator mode and MAXbase variable outrigger positioning. The unique Grove MEGATRAK independent suspension with all-wheel steering, meanwhile, will make it easy and comfortable to maneuver.

During its first two weeks, Horizon Reinforcing’s new GMK5250XL-1 crane was already rented out five times for engineering, construction and telecoms jobs across Central Scotland. “It means a lot to us to be the first crane hire company in Scotland to have the GMK5250XL-1. It’s a big draw for our customers to know we have this machine in our fleet,” Stewart concluded. www.manitowoc.com

When Horizon Reinforcing’s GMK5250XL-1 arrived at the yard in Falkirk in mid-July 2021, Stewart and his colleagues were immediately impressed.

Our focus remains on providing solutions and products that empower people to accomplish more and build a better world.” The Bobcat T7X is the world’s first all-electric compact track loader. This machine is fully battery-powered, built to be more productive from the ground up with electric actuation and propulsion, quieter with high-performance torque and more powerful than any dieselfuelled track loader that has ever come before it – all while eliminating any carbon emissions. “This machine is a technological feat for Bobcat and for the entire industry,” said Joel Honeyman, Vice President of Global Innovation at Doosan Bobcat. “We challenged the status quo to deliver a connected, all-electric machine designed for power and performance that previously was not possible. We are excited to share this advancement with the world and proud of the hard work that has gone into making this a reality.” Providing an EMEA Perspective Commenting on future plans for EMEA, Vijay Nerva, Head of Innovation at Doosan Bobcat EMEA, said: “The T7X has been developed for the North American market for now but it addresses a global need and challenge. We plan to undergo internal testing and gather customer feedback in various countries in the EMEA region this year to better understand customer needs in this market before taking commercial decisions.” The Advanced Technology and Design of the T7X Compact Track Loader In the T7X, the traditional hydraulic work group has been completely replaced with an electrical drive system consisting of electric cylinders and electric drive motors, which means virtually no fluids.

The all-electric Bobcat T7X compact track loader is the first machine of its kind to fully eliminate all hydraulics and components.

The new, all-electric Bobcat T7X uses just under one litre of eco-friendly coolant compared to around 216 litres of fluid in its diesel/hydraulic equivalent model. The all-electric platform enables instantaneous power and peak torque available at every operating speed. The operator no longer must wait for the standard hydraulic system to build up power. The T7X operates with zero emissions and reduced noise and vibration generated by the machine. It works quietly and efficiently in noise sensitive areas and indoors, which significantly lowers sound levels and improves the working environment. It can also significantly lower daily operating costs, when considering the reduction in annual maintenance costs and elimination of diesel, engine oil, diesel exhaust fluid and hydraulic parts. At the heart of the T7X is a powerful 62 kW lithium-ion battery from technology partner, Green Machine Equipment, Inc. While applications vary, each charge can support common daily work operations and the use of intelligent work modes for up to four hours of continuous operation time and a full day of operation during intermittent use. The intelligence of the power management system is programmed to sense when loads are increasing, automatically

backing off power when not needed to preserve the total energy use and extend the machine’s runtime. Sunbelt Rentals Announces Commitment to Bobcat Electric Equipment The T7X will initially be available only in the North American market but the company intends to expand this to other regions in the future. During the company’s CES Media Days news conference, Doosan Bobcat NA (North America) announced a strategic partnership with South Carolina-based Sunbelt Rentals, a leading rental equipment company in North America with more than 1025 locations, with a strong presence in Europe in the UK, Germany and France. LIEBHERR

RISING TO MEET GLOBAL CHALLENGES: LIEBHERR LAUNCHES THREE NEW WHEEL LOADERS Liebherr has been offering a series of wheel loaders tailored to markets outside of Europe and North America. Now Liebherr is modernising the three largest wheel loaders in this series with the new L 550, L 566 and L 580 models. Increasing the tip load, bucket sizes and engine power are some of the most important innovations. The wheel loaders also feature a new electrohydraulic pilot control. This technology forms the basis for various intelligent features which increase safety and productivity during daily use.

L

iebherr has developed the three new models at the Bischofshofen plant, its long-standing Centre of Excellence for Wheel Loaders. Decades of experience in designing wheel loaders was one of the keys to success in the development process. “We also analysed our international customers’ demanding wheel loader operations over a long period. This included observing different mining operations around the world, some in Africa and South America, coal handling in India and timber work in Russia. Our customers’ experiences were crucial to the development of the new wheel loader series,” explains Wolfgang Rottensteiner, who is responsible for sales of the wheel loader series at Liebherr-Werk Bischofshofen GmbH. Performance increases for the travel drive, lift arms and working hydraulics The new L 550, L 566 and L 580 wheel loaders feature the proven hydrostatic Liebherr travel drive, which is renowned for its great efficiency. Thanks to increases in engine power – approximately 17% for the L 550 – the travel drive is even more powerful while maintaining the same low fuel consumption. This is advantageous when accelerating or penetrating material and lowers fleet fuel costs. Liebherr has installed the diesel engine in the rear, where it also acts as a counterweight thereby increasing the tip load for the wheel loaders. Liebherr has three lift arm versions on offer for the new models. Firstly, the z-bar kinematics, which come to the fore particularly in the lower lifting range and

02 - Construction Equipment - MARCH 2022

34

for the break-out force. Secondly, the industrial kinematics, which have been designed for working with heavy working tools such as high dump buckets and log grapplers. Finally, there are the High Lift lift arms – an extended version of the z-bar kinematics with the longest lift arms in this wheel loader segment. These ensure greater reach and more productive loading procedures at great heights, which is beneficial when loading railway wagons or lorries with high sides.

The working hydraulics of the wheel loaders will also impress customers with their larger components and new electrohydraulic pilot control. This technology also ensures responsive movements of the lift arms, independent of the size or weight of the working tool. Liebherr also offers a new, optional weighing device on the bases of the electro-hydraulic pilot control. The assistance system works automatically as a check scale and provides real-time

LIEBHERR

For example, they can set lift limitations and maximum tilt-out heights, thus reducing the risk of accidents in areas where space is restricted. The tilt-out speed can also be programmed to protect lift arm components and the installed equipment.

information about the loading procedure. This data helps machine operators to precisely fill dumpers, lorries and railway wagons with the specified quantities and to avoid overfilling.

In addition to these optimisations for operating safety, Liebherr has also invested in the operational reliability of the new wheel loaders. Because they are faced with an abundance of challenges: Remote operating areas, extreme climates, demanding loading materials and multi-shift operation over a long period demand a high degree of reliability. For this reason, Liebherr has installed larger axles than were fitted on predecessor models. Liebherr has drawn on proven components from its other wheel loaders for the core components and steel construction. When maintenance and servicing are required, Liebherr supports its customers with a global sales and service network.

Increased safety thanks to the electrohydraulic pilot control and highly-durable components The electrohydraulic pilot control enables operators to perform individual adjustments on the new wheel loaders.

Modern wheel loader design ensures comfort and functionality The modern design of the new L 550, L 566 and L 580 wheel loaders has particular functional advantages in addition to the bold new look. The clean lines on the rear

as well as the large glass surfaces in the cab facilitate good all-round visibility. Furthermore, the new reversing camera, which is installed in a protected position in the engine bonnet, assists the machine operator to keep an eye on the area to the rear. Numerous details that have been seamlessly integrated in the wheel loaders’ exterior design make service work easier. For example, on the L 566 and L 580, the engine bonnet opens to the rear, making the diesel engine freely and safely accessible. A sturdy cab access leads to the redesigned and spacious operator’s cab. One of the special features of the cab is the height-adjustable 9-inch touch display with intuitive menu navigation. The high-resolution display provides a clear overview of all the wheel loader’s operating information. The Liebherr control lever enables the highly sensitive control of work movements as part of the modern operating concept. Hydraulic working tools, such as the log grappler, can also be precisely controlled with the optional mini joystick on the control lever. The new electrohydraulic pilot control also makes an important contribution here. Large window surfaces and well thought-out storage areas complete the modern cab design. www.liebherr.com

02 - Construction Equipment - MARCH 2022

36

T

he most important innovations include the redesigned operator’s cab, which provides the operator with excellent visibility thanks to its generous use of glass. The optimised visibility of the lift arms also ensures an unobstructed view of the working attachment and therefore maximum safety. Due to customer demand, the L 506 and L 508 models are now available as Speeder variants for the first time ever. In this version, they can reach a top speed of 30 km/h.

LIEBHERR

The new compact loader series comprises three models which have been optimally coordinated with one another. The new L 504 compact joins the company’s wheel loader range. Liebherr’s smallest wheel loader embodies the qualities of the larger Liebherr wheel loaders while also being an excellent value for the money. With numerous new features, the L 506 compact has consolidated its already strong position in the market. As is the case for the L 504, the machine height of the L 506 remains under 2.5 metres, making it easy to transport on a trailer. The new L 508 compact has become larger and wider than both of the other Liebherr compact loaders. Its powerful travel drive and high-tipping load have received praise from customers.

Versatile and powerful: Intelligent solutions for the lift arms The new compact loaders have robust lift arms with z-bar kinematics, which facilitates the use of a wide variety of attachments. Liebherr has optimised the parallel guidance for safe and precise operation when working with forks. This is critical, for instance, when transporting palettes with paving stones or decking tiles in garden and landscaping applications. To increase versatility even more, Liebherr offers High Lift lift arms for the L 506 and L 508 models on request. This is an extended version of the lift arms with a greater reach. This enables the compact loaders to also load taller transport vehicles. Wheel loaders are confronted with a myriad of challenges when used in municipal services: Transporting materials with various buckets or forks, excavating

with a 4 in 1 bucket, cleaning work with a sweeper, or winter services with a snow plough are just some examples of this. To ensure the mastery of this wide variety of applications, Liebherr offers its fully automatic quick coupler system LIKUFIX for the three compact loaders. LIKUFIX allows the machine operator to change between mechanical and hydraulic working tools from the cab within seconds at the touch of a button. This saves time and reduces the risk of accidents as the operator doesn’t have to leave the cab when changing the equipment. Comfortable and safe: New cab and functional design Well thought-out solutions can also be found in the redesigned cab, which can be entered via a sturdy, reinforced step. Of particular note, Liebherr has increased the amount of glass throughout the cab. The windscreen now even reaches into

The new Speeder version of the Liebherr L 506 compact loader can achieve a top speed of 30 km/h.

the foot area of the operator’s cab. This ensures better visibility in all directions, particularly of the attachment and in the articulation area. The rear screen is curved on the sides, enabling an unobstructed view of the rear area. The new compact loaders can be equipped with a backup camera on request, for even more safety when reversing. Numerous details, such as the clearly arranged control elements or the practical storage areas, increase comfort in the operator’s cab. With the proven Liebherr control lever, the machine operator can operate the lift arms and the attachment safely. This also applies to the optional mini joystick on the control lever, which is used to control additional hydraulic functions. Optionally available is an infinitely adjustable steering column; the display, standard on all machines, is also adjustable and located on the A pillar in the cab. These measures ensure simple and intuitive operation of the

BOBCAT

FIRST BOBCAT MAXCONTROL REMOTE CONTROL SYSTEM IN SPAIN

Obras y Construcciones Corbera, a construction and earthmoving company based in Corbera de Llobregat (Barcelona), is the first business in Spain and one of the first in Europe, to purchase Bobcat’s new MaxControl remote control system. MaxControl is an exclusive hardware kit from Bobcat, which combined with an iOS application allows the operator to control Bobcat compact loaders remotely, using an iPhone or iPad.

O

bras y Construcciones Corbera was introduced to the MaxControl system by Bobcat Of, the Authorised Bobcat Dealer for the area. The company was very struck by the versatility that this application could give them thanks to the total visibility of the working space that is offers and, above all, the safety and security provided by this new way of working. This has been particularly useful in some concrete projects as the peripheral vision of the work is considerably improved by being outside the machine. MaxControl has allowed the company to carry out special jobs that require greater safety, working in confined spaces and with little visibility. The system also helps in demolition and in finishing new pavements, providing the company with more precise finishes and in less time. MaxControl has provided greater reliability and precision when loading and unloading machines onto trailers for transfer to other sites. Obras y Construcciones Corbera is convinced that the system improves safety, a factor that is more and more important every day on the job site and offers direct benefits for both operators and employers alike. In addition, it helps to avoid damage to machines through collisions with objects, since by being outside the loader the operator can better see where they are driving.

02 - Construction Equipment - MARCH 2022

40

“It’s like driving a remote-controlled car” “It’s fantastic, very easy to assemble and disassemble, and to use - it’s like driving a remote-controlled car, but always with great care,” says Eduard Heredia, Manager of Obras y Construcciones Corbera. He continues: “In just a few hours I had mastered the operation of the loader through my own iPhone - I would definitely highlight the safety aspects. The MaxControl system is very useful and versatile as I can use it with the bucket or with a variety of Bobcat attachments to carry out different tasks safely such as clearing with a brush or using a wheel saw. Also, I only have a Bobcat tracked loader at the moment, but in the future I might buy a skid-steer model and I will be able to work with the MaxControl with both machines.” Very easy to Install, with all the details on your mobile phone screen It is very easy to connect to the MaxControl system - the user simply puts the receiver on top of the loader’s cab and the emergency stop button on

BOBCAT

the back of the machine - both have a built-in magnet for quick placement. The engine cover can then be opened and the cables for the system hooked up to the machine’s diagnostic connector. The next step is to download the MaxControl application on the mobile phone and once downloaded, the Bobcat dealer can give the customer access to the MaxControl kit. After these steps are completed, the operator simply connects to the wi-fi system of the machine and can start operating it remotely. Once installed, the operator can access the main machine information on the screen of the mobile or tablet, while the intuitive controls allow them to operate both the machine and attachments with ease. This allows errors to be easily identified thanks to the maintenance codes that appear directly on the mobile device. And machine diagnostics are available that communicate all the important information about the carrier and access can be given to the machine to multiple end users, allowing for a quick change of operators.

Transforming two person jobs into solo tasks On a recent project using MaxControl, Obras y Construcciones Corbera carried out filling in work with earth in a large underground area of about 1000 m3 under a school yard to protect the safety of the students. Mounted on a Bobcat T590 track loader, the MaxControl was used to drive the machine remotely through a small opening and down an underground corridor to the filling area. Thanks to MaxControl, any blind spots were eliminated, with full visibility at all times and increased awareness of the surrounding environment. This work was therefore carried out in a couple of weeks with the T590, much more quickly than it would have been by alternative methods using smaller machinery.

As for the Bobcat T590 compact loader, it is ideal for this type of task with very limited space, thanks to its compact size, its manoeuvrability, its stability, providing excellent power, breakout force and lifting capacity for handling the fill material. It combines this with high specifications, shorter cycles and faster turns. Bobcat continues as always to offer new solutions, integrating products and technologies for the market, entering new categories and to promote innovations based on meeting customer needs, and the new MaxControl system is undoubtedly the latest proof of this commitment. www.bobcat.com

Resulting in increased safety, comfort, quality, speed and profitability In remote areas with little connectivity, such as this underground passage, the system keeps the operator registered for 12 hours of operation and works in a range of up to 100 m.

DOOSAN

THREE NEW 18-22 T STAGE V WHEELED EXCAVATORS FROM DOOSAN

The new DX170W-7, DX190W-7 and DX210W-7 Stage V compliant wheeled excavators have been launched by Doosan Infracore Europe, providing significantly higher performance in every area than the previous generation Stage IV machines.

T

hey combine increased tool carrier capability, novel operator assist features and enhanced comfort with new features to boost fuel efficiency, uptime and return on investment, with a focus on increased power, robustness and agility. Enhanced Tool Carrier Capability The DX170W-7, DX190W-7 and DX210W-7 offer improved front movement for rotating tools such as mulchers and the working range for articulated fronts has been improved. The articulated boom cylinder stroke has also been increased whilst the mounting position remains the same. A lock valve has now been added on top of the boom cylinder, to prevent unexpected releasing of the articulated boom cylinder when doing digging work. The new wheeled excavators also have a smart new hydraulic system that offers an improvement of around 30% in attachment work, compared to the previous models. The new system applies a smart hydraulic logic for optimal distribution of the hydraulic flow rate when both the arm and attachment are working simultaneously, with a new priority valve and an additional hydraulic line maintaining continuous hydraulic flow to the attachment, even when the arm is being used. Both the DX170W-7 and DX190W-7 are equipped with a 3.2 tonne counterweight as standard, but the DX170W-7 can be equipped with an optional 3.7 tonne

02 - Construction Equipment - MARCH 2022

42

counterweight. The straight monoboom version of the DX210W-7 has a standard 4.0 tonne counterweight and the articulated excavator has a 3.2 tonne counterweight as standard. Optional counterweights of 4.5 tonne and 4.0 tonne are available for the straight and articulated models, respectively. With the optional heavier counterweights, the DX170W-7 and DX210W-7 are particularly suited for working with heavier attachments such as tilt rotators. All three wheeled excavators have new upper structures providing the space and durability for the standard and optional heavier counterweights and articulated fronts. In addition, the excavators now offer a 2750 mm wide axle as an option, providing 8-9% increased lifting capacity over the side, compared to the standard axle. New Tiltrotator Mode There is a new Tiltrotator Mode on the control panel in the DX170W-7, DX190W-7 and DX210W-7, which can be selected to ensure an optimized hydraulic flow and helps to maximize the accuracy

DOOSAN

of the tilt rotator work by eliminating back pressure. This new tilt rotator mode is a special two-way flow mode, but it is managed by the EPOS like a one-way flow mode, with direct return to the tank in each direction, to avoid back pressure and increase flow and controllability. New Fine Swing Function Another standard new feature is the Fine Swing function which minimizes the shaking that a lifted object undergoes at the start or stop of a swing movement with the excavators, to increase the safety of nearby workers and to prevent damage caused by the object falling from the excavator. When Fine Swing activates, the overrun disappears, allowing the wheeled excavators to smoothly reach maximum swing speed, whilst removing the shock from the turn reversal at the moment of stopping, resulting in a smooth stop. The new excavators incorporate as standard a new lifting eye that forms part of the casting for the push link for the bucket attachment at the end of the arm. The new lifting eye has a maximum capacity of 5 tonne and has a special

bush insert to prevent deformation of the lifting hole. New Operator Assist Features The state-of-the-art cab on the DX170W-7, DX190W-7 and DX210W-7 excels in terms of spaciousness and ergonomics, taking operator comfort and ease of operation to new levels. As well as a new high quality seat, the enhanced cab offers more features as standard than other machines on the market, ensuring super controllability and high precision in all applications. For example, the wheeled excavators offer as standard the new Auto Digging Brake feature, which automatically holds the service brake in position when the vehicle stops (speed is zero), without the driver having to step on the brake pedal. The driver can activate or deactivate the Auto Digging Brake function by pressing the Auto Digging Brake button on the control panel. When the accelerator pedal is then pressed, the Auto Digging Brake function is released.

Joystick Steering is a new option, enabling the driver to steer the machine by using the joystick thumb wheel (without using the steering wheel) when working and driving in the work mode. The Joystick Steering system only works under 20 km/h when first or second speed gears are engaged. The function is activated or deactivated by pressing the thumb-wheel steering button on the control panel for at least one second. The Load Isolation System (LIS) is another new option that enhances the operator’s driving comfort by mitigating the impact transmitted to the front of the machine, when driving off road on uneven and tough terrain. The Boom Suspension (LIS) function is also actuated by pressing a button on the control panel - it can be automatically activated when the driving speed is 5 km/h ± 0.5 km/h or higher, and the function is deactivated at 4 km/h ± 0.5 km/h. The cab features as standard a deluxe steering wheel with a chrome plated spoke and logo. The new two spoke wheel design provides increased operator 02 - Construction Equipment - MARCH 2022

visibility. The steering column also has a new design including an 80 mm telescopic function, which allows the operator to bring the steering wheel closer to them, so that they can find their optimal driving position. In addition, there is a new tilting lever, providing a 15-degree tilt towards the operator, to increase visibility over the top of the steering wheel, when they are doing trenching work, for example. The narrower design of the steering column also contributes to enhanced visibility. New Stage V Engine To meet Stage V engine emission regulations, the DX170W-7, DX190W-7 and DX210W-7 wheeled excavators are powered by the latest generation Doosan DL06V diesel engine, providing 111 kW (149 HP), 121 kW (162 HP) and 141 kW (189 HP) of power, respectively. The DL06V engine offers a new solution to exceed Stage V regulations without exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), which boosts the quantity of air available during combustion, increasing the temperature of the process and greatly reducing the number of particulates produced. This is combined with super-efficient DOC/

DOOSAN

DPF+SCR after-treatment technology to ensure minimal emissions. Thanks to the new technology, maintenance of the diesel particulate filter (DPF) has been greatly reduced, with no maintenance required until the machine has operated for 8000 hours. SPC3 Smart Power Controls In the new wheeled excavators, the enhanced fuel efficiency of the DL06V engine in combination with a new hydraulic main valve and the new generation SPC3 Smart Power Controls, provides increased fuel saving compared to the previous generation machines. There are four power modes now available on the DX170W-7, DX190W-7 and DX210W-7, which help to simplify the operation of the new excavators compared to the more complex choice of eight power modes and SPC combinations in the previous generation machines. The operator is able to set the power mode (P+, P, S or E) in both one-way and twoway working modes. When driving the wheeled excavators, the operator can select two-pump

travel mode via a touch control on the main panel. This reduces revs by about 300 RPM when engaged, resulting in up to 10% less fuel consumption when travelling. The acceleration function has also been improved, so the operator feels a faster response when pressing down on the acceleration pedal. When two pump travel is disengaged, it provides higher torque for driving uphill, but generally as long as the slope is not too extreme, the use of two pump travel is recommended. DoosanCONNECT Telematics System The new DX170W-7, DX190W-7 and DX210W-7 models are factory-installed as standard with Doosan’s state-ofthe-art DoosanCONNECT wireless fleet monitoring system. The DoosanCONNECT system offers a web-based fleet management solution which is very useful for monitoring the performance and security of machines and promoting preventative maintenance. It is available as a standard feature on all new Doosan excavators (from 14 tonne), all new Doosan wheel loaders and Doosan ADTs. www.eu.doosanequipment.com 02 - Construction Equipment - MARCH 2022

• The new battery-powered Junttan PMx2e pile driving rig produces zero CO2 emissions and reduces noise pollution compared to a traditional diesel-powered rig. • Currently, the construction industry is responsible for 39% of global CO2 emissions. • Danfoss’ Editron motor helps the PMx2e mimic the operational performance of a diesel rig as closely as possible, even in the most challenging working conditions.

A

ccording to recent research, emissions from the construction industry reached their highest ever level in 2019. Currently, the sector is responsible for 39% of all CO2 emissions globally. With international agreements such as the Glasgow Climate Pact in place to reduce emissions and reach net zero, the construction industry faces the significant challenge of decarbonizing quickly. This means that there is a huge demand for manufacturers to bring zeroemission construction products and machines to the market. The PMx2e has been designed to match the operational performance of a dieselpowered rig as closely as possible, even in the harshest working environments. The result is a machine that offers the same robust structure and usability as a traditional pile driving rig, though providing more power and instant torque. Furthermore, as well as consuming less energy per pile and producing less noise, the PMx2e crucially emits zero emissions while in operation. Junttan chose Danfoss’ Editron division to supply its PMI375-T1100 series motor after being impressed with its portfolio of sophisticated electric drivetrain systems. The company’s software-led approach delivers maximum efficiency and offers freedom of design due to being lightweight and compact. Danfoss’ experts are also offering technical support to Junttan in selecting drive components for the machine.

Antti Väyrynen, director of offhighway of Danfoss’ Editron division, commented: “Working with Junttan to help create the world’s first fully-electric pile driving rig is a real privilege for us. At Editron, we’re committed to delivering the technology to enable a carbon-free future, including leading the way towards a sustainable construction industry.” Junttan’s CEO Pasi Poranen added: “This new, electric pile driving rig demonstrates our commitment to helping our customers build a more sustainable future around the world. After four years of research and development, we’re bringing the future replacement of a diesel engine deep foundation machine to the market. PMx2e will empower our clients by massively reducing their CO2 emissions and environmental footprint.” The PMx2e electric pile driving rig was commissioned by Per Aarsleff A/S, one of Europe’s premier contracting firms, and its Swedish subsidiary Aarsleff Ground Engineering AB. It is expected that the machine will enter series production in 2022. www.danfoss.com

XWATCH

BLAXTAIR LEADING THE WAY IN GLOBAL SAFETY WITH XWATCH POWERED SOLUTION The “zero accident” objective in the workplace is a major challenge for many companies. Incidents involving pedestrians and mobile equipment such as excavators, wheel loaders and material handlers are still happening! Businesses that have strong safety values realise this and implement effective traffic management solutions to protect people.

T

he French group Arcure has developed Blaxtair®, a cuttingedge intelligent pedestrian proximity detection solution, enhancing safety around industrial vehicles (forklift trucks, wheel loaders, excavators etc). Answering the need of a customer, Blaxtair worked with Xwatch Safety Solutions to provide a solution to allow automatic slowing down of a vehicle - based on Blaxtair pedestrian detection - to make the protection of on-site personnel even more fail proof. The Xwatch engineers designed and integrated a proportional slow down solution with Blaxtair. Blaxtair is made up of three main parts: The stereoscopic camera looks after the area within its field of view, especially in the vehicle’s blind spots. The processing unit analyses the captured images, recognises and localises people in real time, thanks to artificial intelligence algorithms. The on-board screen or LED/ Buzzer within the cabin alerts the driver through visual and audible alarms if a person is detected in the defined danger zone. Thus, when a pedestrian enters

the camera's field of vision, the system quickly processes the information in real time and immediately activates the proportion slew slowdown control system, which is powered by Xwatch. This “slowdown” action is performed as an autonomous action by the machine as opposed to the driver. Franck GAYRAUD, CEO of Arcure Blaxtair explained, “Using Artificial Intelligence, Blaxtair is the only smart 3D camera able to distinguish a person from another obstacle in real time and alert the operator

to the danger, without unnecessary alarms, in industrial environments. Blaxtair enhances people's safety, working conditions and productivity.” Franck GAYRAUD continued, “This kind of partnership allows us to accompany the trend towards autonomous and smart vehicles, addressing a growing demand among machine users, such as HS2 contractors.” Dan LEANEY, Sales and Operations Director of Xwatch Safety Solutions said,

“We are very happy to work with Blaxtair to provide the company with a global safety solution by integrating the Xwatch ‘creep control’ slew slow down control system. The Xwatch solution is extremely flexible and is interoperable among various systems. It enables the Blaxtair system to identify personnel around the machine and connect with the Xwatch solution to slow the machine down.”

JOHN DEERE

AGILE SPIDER EXCAVATORS FROM JOHN DEERE THAT ARE OVER THE EDGE While they are named after the arachnids they resemble, spider (or walking) excavators are also the mountain goats of the equipment world. No matter how challenging the terrain, these agile machines can handle it. With the Euromach R1255 spider excavator, contractors can create a strong niche for their business.

T

his all-terrain earthmover comes with a wide variety of attachments for digging, drilling, or mulching on steep and difficult-to-access terrain. To power the carefully designed excavator, the manufacturer chose a John Deere PowerTech™ PSS 4.5L Stage V engine. Versatile uses of walking excavators Euromach Srl in Montichiari, Brescia, Italy, is the daughter company of leading crane manufacturer Cormach. It offers a broad selection of spider excavators tailored to all types of environments: from mountain ranges or swamps to urban settings, ditches, and canals. “Spider excavators are remarkable,” says engineer Alfredo Calzoni, technical director of Euromach. “However, the operator and the machine must work in perfect harmony. There are many functions, plus it requires experience to balance and transfer the

weight properly for safe and efficient operation.” Euromach aims to address these c h a l l e n g e s by d e s i g n i n g h i g h performance models. “Our flexible setup allows us to customize to an extremely high degree. Furthermore, we limit the use of electronics, which adds to the reliability and repairability of our machines,” Calzoni continues. An Italian eye for design innovation “We strive to create a company culture in which everyone feels encouraged to raise innovative ideas. This is how we can tap into our Italian creative superpower,” highlights Calzoni. The new R1255 is a prime example. and that the engine itself is so simple to integrate.”

The rotating cabin provides the operator full visibility of the working area, while a recently enhanced frame design ensures even better stability. Once the legs are anchored, no complex fixings are needed.

Euromach has a pioneering spirit Euromach uses John Deere 4.5L and 6.8L engines throughout its larger spider excavator models, including the R145 Big Foot Forester, which was developed to work in the toughest conditions. This pioneering machine offers enormous power and can be fitted with an optional gear divider allowing the installation of three hydraulic pumps. The R145’s John Deere 6.8L Stage III A engine will soon be replaced by a John Deere PowerTech™ Plus Stage V model in the appropriate markets.

Calzoni expects to sell around 30 of the R1255s per year, mostly in Europe. “The first units are already in the field. Customers love the machine’s flexibility and ‘can-do’ attitude, as well as the fuel efficiency of the engine,” Calzoni says. “They need power density, fuel efficiency, and reliability on slopes, and John Deere delivers this, plus expert support worldwide. From our side, we like that the motor wiring is ready for integration

Euromach is a long-time customer of Rama Motori S.P.A, the John Deere engine distributor in Italy. “They have

consistently given us excellent personal and expert support, from engine choice to 3D drawings, integration, and queries about operation,” Calzoni says. “The switch to Stage V technology, of course, posed some new challenges, and they stood by us all the way. We can’t ask more than that.” “With a total of some 200 to 250 spider excavators sold worldwide per year, we’re definitely in a niche market. But the demand has grown year over year,” Calzoni notes. “Our machines are considered for repairing canals, landslides, and difficult roads in Asia. So we are confident that our spider excavators will climb in demand as well as they climb up a hill.” www.deere.com

CUMMINS

CUMMINS DISCUSS ABOUT THE FUTURE OF ELECTRIC EXCAVATORS IN CONSTRUCTION

The construction industry has more than 733,000 employers and over 7 million employees. It is a top contributor to the U.S. economy, generating nearly $1.4 trillion worth of structures each year. And according to the United Nations Environment Program, buildings and their construction together account for more than 35% of global energy use and nearly 40% of energy-related carbon dioxide emissions annually.

A

s the world is faced with the climate crisis, the construction industry has to find ways to adopt greener energy solutions. It is a critical challenge to ensure the momentum of transformation for lowering construction emissions does not slow. Cummins builds a pathway to more sustainable construction In 2018, Hyundai Construction Equipment and Cummins announced that they would jointly develop electric-powered mini excavators. Since then, prototypes of the mini excavators have been developed and the two companies have gathered initial market feedback and continue to refine the product for target customer usecases. Now, Hyundai and Cummins are moving this long-term, productive partnership into its next phase – field testing. During this phase, prototypes of a production intent design are handed over to customers to gain real world experience and to test and validate the adoptability of electric-powered mini excavators against the needs of those customers. Field testing plays an essential role in delivering best-inclass solutions that meet or exceed the durability and reliability expectations that Hyundai and Cummins are recognized for in the industry. Field testing is an essential piece in delivering best-in-class solutions and demonstrates how we are always

02 - Construction Equipment - MARCH 2022

52

innovating for safety and performance. Duplicating real-world environment testing under Hyundai’s operating conditions and duty cycles, we will monitor the mini excavators’ adoptability, performance and reliability. Why are excavators a good candidate for electrification? Zero-emissions As stricter standards for zero-emissions continue to arise, even off-highway applications have begun to feel the push to lower their CO2 emissions. Urban cities have started to implement zero-emission zones (ZEZ) that require any vehicle, onor off-highway, to comply with the area’s regulations. For this reason, construction zones in urban cities have sought out electrified products, such as electric excavators, that match or exceed the reliability and performance of their diesel counterparts. These electric excavators are now considered invaluable for indoor construction sites, where the diesel counterparts were unable to function due to the fumes they emitted and poor ventilation.

CUMMINS between electric and diesel counterparts. The performance of an electric excavator easily matched the performance of diesel vehicles. Its motor’s response to fluctuations in load is faster due to the connectivity speed between the electric module and battery, allowing for better operating performance and feel. Maintenance Because electric excavators no long run on traditional fuel, the need for coolants and oil filters is eliminated and significantly decreases the maintenance intervals. The vehicles also have a lower number of parts that need to be maintained, which can potentially result in the total cost of ownership to be more affordable than their diesel counterparts. What are some of the challenges that electric excavators still face today?

Noise Pollution As more cities implement ZEZs, there has been a noticeable decrease in noise pollution. What was once a loud machine that caused a disturbing ruckus when turned on is now just as quiet when operating as it would be when turned off. A reduction in noise pollution is not only satisfying to the construction site’s surrounding areas, but in many ways decreasing environmental noise could have positive effects on passerby health. Regardless of noise, construction companies want assurance that these electrified excavators can get the job done. An additional advantage of reducing noise pollution is improved communication between the operator of the excavator and other workers on-site. By removing the engine-induced vibrations, both the operator and the workers guiding the operator can better hear one another. Interoperability Operators have noted that there is no difference in machine interoperability

Packaging Packaging has always been a dilemma in the electrification space as these machines were optimized for a diesel engine, not batteries. While batteries are less energy dense than traditional fuel, they require additional components that a diesel engine and fuel cell do not, such as a thermal management system. So, the most prominent question engineers are working to answer is, how do you pack a battery with enough energy and all its components into an existing diesel machine? Cooling and Heating Being enclosed in such tight spaces and exposed to all types of weather, excavators need to perform under all kinds of temperatures. However, due to the machine’s compactness, adding a component for cooling is not always possible. From a heating standpoint, the battery cannot operate if it’s below 0 degrees Celcius due to its chemistry. Cummins’ demonstration powertrain solution Cummins has designed a new electric powertrain for the smaller, more compact 1.9-tonne excavator. Similar to the 2018 model that was developed from scratch, these mini excavators feature a whole new powertrain that offsets some of the challenges of the application. With a new motor, onboard charger, electric hardware integration and never-beforeused BM8.9E battery, this model of

the excavator has been optimized for electrification. While developing the design for the new electric mini-excavators, Cummins engineers needed to overcome the obstacle of packaging. In addition to using energy dense lithium ion batteries, Cummins engineers implemented creative, compact design solutions to optimize the packaging of the electric powertrain in the existing space claim of a diesel excavator. These solutions included custom motor-pump coupling assembly, split compact Power Distribution Unit solutions for maximizing space utilization and replacing a large mechanical fan mounted to the engine with a small electric fan that runs by battery to cool the hydraulic oil. The electric fan also has a smart feature which turns the fans on only as required so they are not running all the time. To optimize the system further, Cummins added additional smart features across multiple components to increase efficiency. This new system will also include components to address battery temperature regulation – internal battery heaters for thermal management. What are we hoping to learn with this next phase? Cummins is building 11, 1.9-tonne battery-electric mini excavators. In 2022, nine of those excavators will be delivered to customers across Europe and South Korea for the field testing to determine their adoptability in applications where diesel-powered excavators are traditionally used. With this new battery electric solution working through field tests, Cummins hopes to better understand the product market, its demands and what impact electrified power will have on the construction industry. The test units will provide insights into end users’ duty cycles, power demand, operator experience and associated field data. www.cummins.com

24 WIDE-BODY MINING TRUCKS DELIVERED TO THAI CUSTOMER On November 27th, 18 units of SKT 90S wide-body mining trucks and 6 units of SKT 90E wide-body mining trucks were delivered to a key client in Thailand.

W

ith 10 units of the 90S already purchased by the client in 2020, there is currently a total of 34 trucks in the fleet, which are in service in two large mining areas. Compared to the 90S, which is a mature, traditional model, the electric unmanned SKT90E wide-body mining truck is diesel free, making the truck not only cleaner but also worry free from potential fuel shortages at high altitudes.

to operate, fuel saving and less noisy, due to which they expressed the desire to upgrade the truck fleet to an all-90E team. www.sanyglobal.com

Having experience with both the old and new generations of SANY’s wide-body mining trucks in the fleet, the client has given positive feedback on the 90E being more stable during operation, simpler 02 - Construction Equipment - MARCH 2022
