ADVANTECH, BEHR TECHNOLOGIES, HITACHI SOLUTIONS, AND MICROSOFT COLLABORATE TO DEVELOP IIOT CONNECTIVITY SOLUTIONS
Collaboration Aims to Deliver Groundbreaking New Wireless Communication Solutions for Industrial and Commercial IoT Markets.
A
dvantech, Behr Technologies (BTI), Hitachi Solutions America, and Microsoft today announced that the companies are collaborating to deliver wireless communications solutions with unmatched scalability, reliability, and security for private industrial Internet of things (IIoT) networks. Since no single technology provider can enable IIoT alone, this joint effort will provide the first mass-market, end-to-end wireless gateway solution to ensure connectivity with sensors for production-level industrial and commercial applications. The solution will deliver massive scalability, the deepest possible building penetration, integration and interoperability with legacy systems, along with extremely long battery life for nodes.
MORE INFORMATION
This collaboration aims to meet growing demand in the marketplace for robust and comprehensive out-of-the-box wireless IIoT communications solutions to connect the various sensors used by industrial and commercial customers in their business intelligence efforts. The foundation for the joint effort is BTI MIOTY™, a low-power, wide-area network (LPWAN) communications solution that is the first and only to use the ETSI standard telegram splitting ultra-narrow band (TS-UNB) technical specification for low throughput 16 | Industry EMEA | September 2018

networks, enabling organizations to deploy private IoT sensor networks with unprecedented capacity, high Quality-of-Service (QoS), and low total cost of ownership. Using industry-standard Advantech gateways, BTI MIOTY will transmit up to 1.5 million messages per day within a radius of five to 15 kilometers, with no carrier requirements. Layered atop this infrastructure, Hitachi Solutions’ IoT Service Hub will enable organizations to connect and monitor devices and analyze the data in real time to dramatically improve operational efficiencies. First application focused on workforce safety The first application resulting from this collaboration is a new and unique approach to workforce safety using the BTI MIOTY LPWAN wireless solution on an industry-standard gateway. Using a wearable device to monitor the heart rate of workers in industrial high-risk environments, data on the health of hundreds of workers is transmitted over unlicensed, sub-gigahertz frequencies via BTI MIOTY to a single Advantech base station. From there, it is communicated to the Microsoft Cloud, where Hitachi Solutions’ IoT Service Hub can provide actionable insights on workers’ health and send alerts when workers are in danger. Employers, such as

NEW RESIDUAL CURRENT TRANSFORMERS AS WELL AS INTELLIGENT AC/DC CURRENT TRANSFORMERS
The range of current transformers and transducers is growing constantly in response to market demand.
In the field of heavy current measurement, current transformers are essential. Among the important parameters are reliability and accuracy, to guarantee very lengthy service life. A measurement device like this one from Camille Bauer Metrawatt AG, developed and manufactured in Switzerland, normally always needs one current transformer for each conductor, which is why these products are so important.
C
To complement the portfolio of residual current transformers, Camille Bauer Metrawatt AG is introducing unique and intelligent AC/DC current transformers to the market. Their advantage is being able to measure single phase currents up to 300AAC (max. 800VAC), or 400ADC (max. 1000VDC) in different frequency ranges which gives planners and system builders maximum flexibility. Energy meters integrated in the transformer are also optionally available. These save buying separate energy meters for internal invoicing, which simplifies the installation task and saves cost as a result. Intelligent current transformers thus ideal in applications for monitoring photovoltaic systems, battery charging systems, UPS systems as well as processes with changing frequencies. The transformer parameters can be configured either by DIP switches or through Modbus RTU, using a free, user-friendly software utility.
MORE INFORMATION
ustomers can now choose from a wide range of current transformers available from Camille Bauer Metrawatt AG. These include standard current transformers in the SIRAX CT series with 1A or 5 A output, available in 4 variants. These variants are: wound current, bushing-type (single-phase or three-phase), split core and compact SC series core-balanced current transformers. The DACT and KBU series, which are essential for measuring residual current in electrical systems, were recently added to the portfolio of residual current transformers. With an RCM (Residual Current Monitor), even the smallest residual currents (leakage currents) are detected with high precision by the residual current detector and transferred to a higher-level measurement device (for example SIRAX AM1000/3000, PQ3000/5000, etc.). This is to prevent damage to people and to system hardware before it can occur. Typical areas of application are data centres, hospitals, factories, public buildings, shopping centres, etc.

KEYENCE DIGITAL MICROSCOPE HELPS PROPEL ROXEL UK TO NEW COMMERCIAL HEIGHTS
KEYENCE has grown to become a world leader in the development of automation and quality assurance solutions since its inception, in 1974. The company’s extensive line card includes sensing, vision and measurement products, as well as laser markers and microscopes. KEYENCE products are specifically designed to add value to the manufacturing and research practices of its customers, regardless of geographical location.
I
nnovation has long been embedded in the company’s DNA. This means KEYENCE products are engineered to be versatile, and they can be used in just about every industry for a wide variety of applications—no matter how demanding. Are you looking for a high-end example of this? Look no further than Roxel UK, a leader in the design and manufacturing of solid rocket propulsion systems for land, sea and air defence systems. Roxel has proven capabilities and decades of expertise in the chemistry of energetic materials and mechanical fields.
Roxel UK’s know-how includes the design, development and manufacture of solid propulsion systems and related equipment for a range of rockets and missiles. This is a tough, uncompromising market where failure is never an option. With tightening health and safety requirements, as well as ever-changing legislation, the Worcestershire-based rocket specialist often has to review legacy propellants and re-qualify them with non-restricted materials. This could require, for instance, a phase of research & development followed by stringent testing and further evaluation.
MORE INFORMATION
And it is precisely to assist with such rigorous testing that Roxel UK acquired a VHX Series Digital Microscope from KEYENCE recently. According to procurement staff based in the United Kingdom, it was not the most difficult decision to make. “Due to the wide range and various levels of technical knowledge and experience amongst the team, it was crucial that we acquired a system everyone within the organ16 | Industry EMEA | September 2018

ization could use with ease” explained Poppy Jones, Propellant Chemist at Roxel UK. “Of all the options that were considered, we found the KEYENCE solution very easy to set up and use on a daily basis, whilst not compromising the microscope’s capability.” Naturally, no such compromise would ever be acceptable to a company like Roxel, whose propulsion systems and motors are used in a large range of missiles and rockets. Time and again, KEYENCE products are praised for their design ingenuity. With a VHX Series Digital Microscope, for example, real-time depth composition is achieved without the need to actually adjust the focus of device. The product delivers images of unprecedented clarity and texture, thanks to a high resolution HDR offering 256 times the information of a normal 8-bit digital image. Balancing out brightness levels and improving contrast simultaneously is key to delivering outstanding viewing results.
The VHX Series Digital Microscope has been incredibly useful to Roxel UK staff as a “quick check” tool, added Poppy Jones. It has also been used to confirm the presence (or indeed absence) of defects or weaknesses in a variety of key components manufactured by Roxel. The overall quality and reliability of bondlines, cleavage planes and the propellants themselves have all been impacted positively by the strategic acquisition of this particular device. “This microscope proved an invaluable examination tool to us and it helped with several key investigations” Jones concluded. “The flexibility of having a KEYENCE microscope on site at Roxel UK results in faster, more efficient investigations.” www.keyence.co.uk
MORE INFORMATION
Beyond clever product design and simplicity, two additional factors came into play, according to Jones. “The excellent quality and customer service were also factors we considered when selecting the microscope” she said. Indeed, the technically trained direct sales force from KEYENCE is always ready to solve issues and answer technical questions about the company’s products. Fast shipping to customers also comes as standard, to speed up process improvements as quickly as possible. It just shows the extent to which KEY-
ENCE is dedicated to adding value to its customers by combining superior technology with unparalleled support.

MUCH EASIER SET-UP AND MORE STABLE DETECTION: KEYENCE ULTRA-COMPACT VISION SENSOR IV SERIES NOW FEATURES OCR
KEYENCE updated its Vision Sensor IV Series with optical character recognition (OCR) capability that can offer a simple, three-step (1 minute) set-up routine and more stable detection through high-intensity illumination and high-performance lens technology. In addition, the ultra-compact size makes the vision sensors easy to retrofit for companies updating their equipment
A
MORE INFORMATION
utomotive, food, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and electronics manufacturing plants are among those set to benefit from the streamlined and simplified detection of various product features. This continues the company’s trend of bringing inspection tools to market that deliver genuine advantages for customers.
Amid the major technology advances of the Vision Sensor IV Series is the new OCR tool that detects whether the text/ date on the target being inspected matches the text/date information on the registered master image. Importantly, there is no need to perform extraction (adjusting character width and height), register a dictionary, or any other setting configurations required with conventional vision sensors. Users simply outline the text to identify it. Furthermore, stable reading is possible regardless of changes to the text’s shading, contrast, thickness or size—production engineers do not have to reteach the system. A wide variety of marking formats are supported, including, inkjet printers, laser markers and thermal printers. Process stability is vital to successful OCR. A common issue with conventional vision sensors is that they often fail to capture clear images, while erroneous detections can frequently occur due to sensor misalignment. In contrast, the stability of the Vision Sensor IV Series facilitates accurate detection without variation, supported by the capture of high-quality, clear images that are unaffected by changes to
16 | Industry EMEA | September 2018

ambient light conditions. Also, entire surfaces are checked, providing high protection against misaligned targets. High-intensity Hi-R illumination is key to the advanced performance of the new vision sensors. Here, KEYENCE has researched different reflector shapes that help to minimize the loss of light intensity from the LEDs. The result is uniform and overwhelmingly bright lighting across the entire field of view. An additionally important feature of the sensors is the newly developed high-performance HP-Quad lens, which contains four layers of glass. This design serves to minimize the effect of lens distortion, making it possible to capture bright, clear images with low distortion.
With conventional vision sensors, specialised knowledge is often required in order to choose and install them. In short, a certain amount of time is needed for users to become familiar with the technology. The KEYENCE Vision Sensor IV Series
Simple installation is another major benefit. With a product envelope of just 44.3 x 31 x 24 mm (smallest in class), the sensors can be installed anywhere, even in systems where there is minimal space availability. Furthermore, the cable connector can be rotated by up to 330° to suit any space restrictions, ensuring a high degree of freedom when it comes to installations. Further capabilities of the Vision Sensor IV Series include automatic brightness adjustment at the push of a button and best-in-class, high-speed, high-accuracy automatic focus. The IV Series can be set up with an intelligent monitor (IVM30) or a PC. As PCs can have a larger display, set-up procedures are even easier to understand and can be quickly configured by first-time users. Additionally, a simulation function allows users to check and modify the program configurations, and perform operation simulations based on image history without connecting the sensor. This functionality enables easy computation of the optimal thresholds while looking at the detection result statistics and histogram, even when away from the workplace.
MORE INFORMATION
To support stable detection it is necessary to capture a large image of the target. Here, 10 different types of available sensor head in the Vision Sensor IV Series means that a wide variety of target sizes and detecting distances can be supported. What’s more, the digital zoom function can be used to capture a large image of the target when it is not possible to bring the sensor close due to the presence of obstacles or the product design.
overcomes these difficulties with its inherent ease-of-use that makes it possible for anyone to operate the sensor and, if required, easily perform 100% inspection routines.

The strengths of Delta’s UPS were the DPS series technical characteristics focused on the industrial world with a very wide input range, and Peronda’s performed tests at Delta’s facilities in Madrid which were very satisfactory.
The UPS protects the furnaces and the ceramics production line; these furnaces must be working 24/365. In the event of power blackout, the ceramic manufacturing process could come to a halt and cause high costs due to production loss, high costs due to furnace maintenance, and a waste of employee time. It is also worth noting the installation of 6 Delta’s Ultron HPH 30 kVA UPS to protect the printers that decorate the ceramic. A power blackout would also cause production loss here. To Peronda, the implementation of a reliable and efficient power backup solution was a critical task to prevent waste of material and person-hours while maintaining targeted production output. Finally, for this leading manufacturer of ceramics, both the Ultron DPS and the Ultron HPH solutions were a success. Without additional hardware, Ultron DPS and HPH Series UPS also offer a flexible and convenient way to expand the total output power to fulfil business growth. www.delta-emea.com

SMART SENSOR FOR THE INTERNET OF THINGS IOT
Photoelectric all-rounder BOS 21M ADCAP.
G
enerating, transporting and processing information are central tasks in the Industry 4.0 environment. The basis for all the information is intelligent sensors which provide the required input. With their BOS 21M ADCAP will be showing a newly developed optical multifunction sensor, the BOS 21M series. The versatile all-rounder uses red light and lets you choose from among four sensor modes: background suppression, energetic diffuse, retroreflective or through-beam sensor. All the sensor functions can be configured over IO-Link while the system is running, so that a remote teach-in can be initiated by the controller.
Comprehensive, smart diagnostics functions provide important information such as life expectancy, operating hours and function reserve. Increasing amount dirt deposits, sensor misalignment, setting errors or other irregularities can then be reliably detected early by monitoring the emissivity values as a measure of the sensor signal quality. But when it comes to operating security this intelligent sensor offers even more. The BOS 21M ADCAP is the first to optically monitor the output of the emitter LED directly and to determine the “stress level” by means of the sensor interior temperature and the supply voltage. www.balluff.co.uk
MORE INFORMATION
In addition the sensor detects actual operating conditions, collects and processes information and provides far more data than just the switching signal over IO-Link. Detection signals are prepared and pre-processed in the sensor. This relieves the burden on the system controller and reduces data volume on the fieldbus systems.

EPLAN DATA PORTAL: THE PATH TO AN IDEAL DEVICE DATA SET
The Dashboard provides a good overview of the new features in the Eplan Data Portal of the most downloaded device data.
Digital device data are the key element for efficient engineering these days. One of the biggest challenges for this is both the data quality and the depth of said data. Eplan Data Portal is rising to this challenge: since the start of the year, the portal is now being updated on a monthly basis, more often than before.
U
sers now also have a rating function for qualifying device data, thereby offering manufacturers practicebased feedback from the market. Furthermore, since the Hannover Messe, a Lab Version of the Eplan Data Portal allows users to get early access to test and try out the program’s most current developments.
MORE INFORMATION
EPLAN Data Portal is the central platform for digital device data in the area of automation engineering. Currently more than 230 manufacturers offer more than 800,000 data sets as direct downloads—with integrated configurations and the respective variants, it’s actually more than 2 million. Since the start of the year, the data are being updated every month so that users and manufacturers alike can better benefit from the platform and to help ensure the data’s high quality. These updates include both the addition of new manufacturers and the augmentation, expansion and updating of existing manufacturing data.

User ratings as quality indicator Another step to continuous quality improvement is the quite new user rating function. As is common on other portals like Amazon, it allows users the possibility to rate the offered contents by awarding it stars. The goal is to rate and qualify the product’s digital data, not the product itself. In the sense of a community mind, users thereby provide helpful feedback from their everyday work that provides orientation for other users but that also gives manufacturers valuable indicators from the market to continue developing their data. The users themselves thus can have an influence on the data quality. Sorting options for improved user experience Based on the rating function, users can directly sort search results in the portal using two additional options: filtering device data according the highest-rated devices or, alternatively, according to the amount of downloads the device data set has generated to that point. This way users know exactly which items have the best quality device data or which device is used most often in its product group. Naturally the assumption is that engineers will intensively use the rating function, which is the only way it will have

an impact for everyone. It’s considered a significant added value—and thus rating by users is highly welcome. An outlook for the future The user experience as well as the ease of use and simplicity—paired with the right contents—is a key asset for future cloud applications. A Lab Version of the new EPLAN Data Portal interface has been available since April, in which users have the opportunity to directly test the new interface. Whether they try out the new search functions or want to explore the look and feel of the new dashboard: the Lab Version already has all of these features. It will be continually expanded and new version releases will regularly be available to test. EPLAN is hereby providing its users a peek behind the scene in the development process.

NSK SOLVES BEARING FAILURE PROBLEMS AT CONCRETE PIPE PLANT Molded-Oil bearings from NSK are designed to deliver extended operating life in harsh industry environments.
The use of NSK Molded-Oil bearings has overcome the problems associated with fine dust when cutting or slotting concrete pipe. Photo: John Barry of Nicola/Shutterstock.com
Faced with regular bearing failures on the blade support of a concrete pipe-slotting machine that would cause 8 hours of downtime each time, the UK-based company in question turned to NSK for assistance.
A
s part of NSK’s AIP Added Value Program, a team of engineers scrutinised the application and determined that the ingress of concrete dust into the bearings was the root cause of the problem. To achieve extended service life, NSK duly recommended switching to its Molded-Oil bearings with DDU seal. As a result of the project, bearing life has quadrupled from 2-3 months to 12 months, saving over €38,000 per annum in downtime costs alone.
NSK’s AIP is designed to make operations and maintenance processes more efficient and profitable by saving money at each value-added step. Experienced NSK specialists use tried and tested methods to develop the ideal solution for each specific application, working with the customer and taking every detail into account.
Importantly, the incorporation of a DDU seal for the application at the concrete pipe facility ensured protection against the ingress of dust produced by the slotting operation. Indeed, a trial over a 12-month period showed no failures whatsoever. Based on four failures per year prior to the adoption of Molded-Oil bearings, the elimination of downtime costs at 8 hours per failure, has led to annual savings of €38,400.
MORE INFORMATION
The fine dust produced when cutting or slotting concrete pipe can be extremely damaging to standard shielded deep groove ball bearings. Dust gets behind the seal and contaminates the lubricating grease, which as the UK concrete pipe producer now knows, can prove extremely costly.
At the UK concrete pipe plant, the recommendation of replacing the existing shielded deep groove ball bearings with NSK’s Molded-Oil bearings proved highly successful. Molded-Oil bearings are available as part of a comprehensive range that is purpose-designed to deliver extended operating life in harsh industry environments. The lubricant (oil-impregnated polyofin resin) within the bearings is durably incorporated inside a stable carrier medium. Moreover, the lubricant is only released slowly, ensuring sufficient lubrication is maintained over a long operating period.

INTERFACE FOR PROCESS-RELIABLE MACHINING
Schweiger Tool and Mold Making specializes in the machining of large workpieces and deep cavities. The milling specialists use HAIMER shrink fit chucks for their machining, in some cases coming from the supplier’s large standard product range and in others special custommade solutions. Large-scale mold maker relies on HAIMER technology.
S
chweiger Formenbau (Schweiger Mold Making) relies on automation to produce high-precision injection molds at competitive costs in Germany. In order to achieve the required, high process reliability, the largescale mold manufacturer does not make any compromises. For tooling they rely on tool holders, shrinking, balancing and tool presetting technology from the system supplier HAIMER.
MORE INFORMATION
The owner-managed Schweiger GmbH & Co. KG from Uffing at Staffelsee in Bavaria specializes in one of the most demanding industries: the automotive industry. For Managing Director Anton Schweiger and his approximately 75 employees, this means having to meet the highest standards of precision and quality with every injection mold produced. Additionally, they are competing in a global market, which, among other things, is subject to enormous cost pressure.
However, facing the strain of global competition, the qualified toolmaker and his team have adjusted and positioned themselves accordingly. They rely on an automated process chain which ensures absolute security and ends with injection molds that meet all requirements. In 2016, for example, the company built a new production hall and invested in two DMC 210U and 270U 5-axis DMG Mori machining centers, which are capable of processing even XXL components in one clamping operation. Equipped with an appropriate pallet automation, the machines run around the clock seven days a week—and all with just one-person shifts. On the weekends they run completely unmanned. This requires highest process reliability across all relevant components and functions. In this respect, Anton Schweiger has also focused on tool clamping technology, the often overlooked interface between spindle and tool. It bears great responsibility for the quality of the machining, the service life of the spindle and the tool life. The milling specialists at Schweiger swear in this respect by the support and counsel of HAIMER GmbH, Igenhausen. In 40 years, the family-owned company has become the

market leader for tool clamping technology in Europe and is considered to be the world leader in tool shrinking and balancing technology. Quality makes the difference For Andreas Orterer, production manager at Schweiger, the main argument for this strong partnership is the quality delivered by HAIMER, “With Haimer products, we can be sure we will always receive the quality that meets our high standards.” Schweiger currently uses in the thousands of HAIMER tool holders with shrink fit technology. In addition, there are two Power Clamp shrinking devices and a Tool Dynamic balancing device in the production. Andreas Orterer adds, “From Haimer, we get all tooling from a single source, which suits us very well. In addition, you notice the shrinking and balancing devices have been developed by machinists. They are easy to use and lead to fast results.”
This machine has become a “HAIMER” product since the Bavarian company took over Microset Tool Presetting Technology in Bielefeld at the beginning of 2017. Compared
Andreas Haimer, Managing Director of Haimer GmbH, explains, “With the acquisition of Microset Tool Presetting Technology we have become a system supplier for tool management. Microset perfectly complements our existing portfolio of high-precision tooling, clamping, shrinking and balancing technology, in such a way as to enable us to provide even greater support to our customers.” Automatically highest runout accuracy The level of satisfaction Anton Schweiger, Vice President of the Association of German Tool and Mold Makers (VDWF), has in his partnership with HAIMER and his tool holders can be measured by the fact that he has been using them for more than two decades.

This is also true for the Microset presetter UNO autofocus 20 | 70, which has its place between the shrinking and the balancing devices at Schweiger.
to the manual version, the UNO autofocus is able to automatically focus the cutting edge for measurement of the C-axis. Especially when it comes to tools with several cutting edges on the circumference, this option proves to be enormously time-saving. All in all, the device allows setup time reductions of up to 70 percent just from presetting outside of the machine.
When the toolmaker bought the first HSC machine about 20 years ago, he switched from mechanical collet chucks to HAIMER shrink fit chucks because of the improved runout accuracy. Compared to the products of other suppliers, the HAIMER shrink fit chucks won him over with its superior quality, “a company goal that HAIMER and ourselves have in 16 | Industry EMEA | September 2018

common.” “If you take the example of the shrink fit chucks, this can be seen in the runout accuracy, which is, by default, below 3 μm.” This is an important prerequisite for the tool makers from Uffing. After all, they do not produce injection molds for cheap consumables, they create highly sophisticated molds used in premium vehicles—for example used to make headlight end plates in 2-component injection molding. These customers place high demands on the end products and do not accept the slightest blemish. Accordingly, the injection molds have to meet similar requirements: as a rule, surfaces should be smooth as glass and tolerances of less than 2/100 mm must be maintained.
MORE INFORMATION
One of Schweiger’s main areas of focus in production is the milling of large complex molds, whereby individual workpieces can weigh up to nine tons. The cavities are often very deep. Typically between 300 to 400 mm, sometimes even up to 500 or 600 mm deep. This requires slim shrink fit tool holders, the use of shrink fit extensions as well as tools with extremely long shanks. “Another strength of Haimer. The company offers a large variety of tool holders standard. If required, however, we can always order a wide range of special designs,” emphasizes production manager Orterer. He points again to the extremely good runout accuracy properties, which apply equally to standard and special tool holder designs. Not only do they contribute to excellent machining results, they also spare the spindle and the tools. 16 | Industry EMEA | September 2018

A long tool life enables unmanned operation In general, a longer spindle life means considerable costs savings, but the tool live is even more important in automated production. “In order to work unmanned, I need an absolutely reliable, long-lasting system of spindle, tool holder and tool,” explains Anton Schweiger. Schweiger machines many large injection molds automatically in one clamping operation—for 40 to 50, sometimes even 100 hours, non-stop. A broken tool or even a spindle damage during unmanned operation would be fatal. In addition, a rigid and stable connection is important to achieve the requested surface quality. “A key to this is the Haimer tool holders,” adds the company owner, “they enable process-reliable machining.” Not every requirement of the toolmaker can be optimally fulfilled with standard tool holders. Anton Schweiger especially appreciates the close cooperation with the HAIMER specialists and the flexibility of the company in Igenhausen. “For us it is important that Haimer listens to the users,” emphasizes the entrepreneur. His HAIMER contact, Oliver Lechner, sales manager for Southern Germany, always responds quickly to inquiries. Lechner comments, “After that, we supply Schweiger with the required custom-made products, such as special, conically shaped face mill arbors that allow the machining of cavities up to 360 mm depth.” Anton Schweiger adds, “These tool holders are perfectly adapted to the tool diameter and the respective cavities.
NEWS Anton Schweiger, owner and managing director of the mold making company Schweiger: “In order to be able to operate fully automated, I need a 100% reliable, long-lasting system from the spindle, tool holder and tool. HAIMER supports us in the field of tool management with products of highest quality.”
That is how I can, without any concerns, let the machines work without supervision—even for roughing.” Specialist for complex large-scale molds The tool and mold making company, Schweiger, was founded in 1962 by Erich Schweiger. Today, under the management of his son Anton Schweiger, it has around 75 employees and generates around 10 million Euros in sales each year. Their core business consists of complex injection molds weighing between 5 and 30 tons, 99 percent of which are supplied to the automotive industry. They are mainly used for the production of headlight covers, optical and visual components. Customers include German premium manufacturers, as well as their 1st tiers. In addition to automated production with standardized processes, Schweiger sees its strength in turn-key solutions. The services range from support in product development to series production and aftersales services. www.haimer.biz MORE INFORMATION 16 | Industry EMEA | September 2018

eason Technology partners with a number of globally leading component manufactures whose products are intrinsic to its customized motion systems design and build service for high precision positioning systems. Heason is pleased to announce that one of its distribution partners, Zettlex, has recently added a high pressure option to its comprehensive range of durable inductive angle encoders—which in turn expands the application potential for positioners and actuators for use in subsea, oil & gas and industrial high pressure process environments.

Zettlex’s IncOder inductive encoder technology is well proven and has a long list of successful installations for high temperature/humidity, high vibration/shock and other extreme environments where individual angle, position, speed or complete servo feedback, is essential. Throughout the IncOder’s Mini, Midi and Maxi series—which span nominal diameter sizes from 37 to 595 mm—a wide choice of options allow a great deal of installation flexibility. Users can choose angular resolutions from 10 to 22 bits, or any whole-number of pulses/rev. Supply voltage options cover 5, 12 and 24 VDC whilst mechanical interfacing for the twopart rotor/stator angle encoder includes shaft mount, servo clamp, external mount and more. This wide choice is further enhanced with output and communications interfaces that cover, but are not limited, to Synchronous Serial Interface (SSI), analogue voltage (+/- 10 V etc.), A/B/Z pulses and BISS. The large internal diameter, which is inherent to the IncOder design, also allows through-hole access for wiring, air/hydraulics and other services. All these features make the angle encoder a great choice for many other positioning applications, not just for extreme environments.

A submersible precision rotary actuator designed and built by Heason Technology
For operation at high pressures, for example in deep-sea equipment such as submersible vehicles or remotely operated valves for subsea oil and gas fields, users can now specify an extended range product option that shifts the recommended pressure range up to 280 bar (4,000 psi). This extended range combines with the already high levels of resilience to all types of extreme conditions that the IncOder can accommodate. For Heason, this option will mean that servo feedback for precision actuators and positioning systems that are used in arduous application conditions will not be limited for such high pressures environments.
In addition to its non-contact inductive IncOders, Zettlex also designs and manufacturers a range of non-contact linear encoders for position and speed feedback applications in extreme environments. Heason Technology supports the full Zettlex range with individual component supply or as essential parts of complete motion sub-systems. www.heason.com
Heason Technology integrates other harsh environment components into such positioning systems. Highly durable components from other key distribution partners include KBM submersible servomotors from Kollmorgen and Elmo Motion’s ExtrIQ range of severe environment drives and motion controls.
MORE INFORMATION
As an example of an application that could benefit from the extended range Zettlex IncOders, Heason has recently completed the supply of a precision rotary actuator that accurately positions and powers the rudder and hydroplanes on a scaled submersible ROV vehicle. This was developed for hydrodynamic design evaluation studies for military submarines. The extended pressure range could be specified as part of the servo control, if perhaps the customer required the ROV to perform at higher pressures and lower working depths. 16 | Industry EMEA | September 2018

INSTALLATION OF A NEW, LARGE-VOLUME, BIAXIAL SEISMIC BENCH AT ENVIRONNE’TECH In 2017, Environne’Tech, Emitech Group started off its industrial project “Bourgoin-Jallieu 2020” with an extension to its test centre for equipment qualification and environmental testing.
T
he new 800 m2 building is 10 m high and designed for testing large-volume specimens such as aeronautic or rail components, as well as complete vehicles or major installations. It is equipped with special facilities such as a 93 m3 climate chamber and very recently, a large-volume seismic bench has been added to the existing equipment. With the “Grand Carenages” nuclear plant refurbishment program, and after the accident at Fukushima, demand for seismic testing has grown considerably and specifications in many areas have been tightened. In response to this trend, Environne’Tech decided to invest in equipment specifically for this purpose.
MORE INFORMATION
Compared to Environne’Tech’s existing bench, the new seismic bench has up to five times the test capacity and can handle heavier and more voluminous test specimens. The new table for component qualification measures 1200 x 1200 mm. The seismic bench excites two axes simultaneously with a force of up to 150 kN, and accepts a maximum payload of 3000 kg for the total spectrum and 500 kg for the component spectrum.
It is designed for all types of equipment which have to remain functional before and after an earthquake. In the case of the nuclear power industry, this includes power station safety equipment, control devices, racks, sensors, connectors, lighting, taps and valves. It also serves the needs of other markets which are subject to multi-axial stresses, such as the automotive, rail and aircraft industries. The capabilities of the new bench complement those of the existing one. The benches make it possible to implement complex hydraulic interdependencies (pressurizing and/or fluid circulation) or electrical interdependencies (connection and monitoring of voltages, currents, temperatures, shortterm power failures, etc.) and to control this by means of different sensors (acceleration, movement, stress etc.). The devices are tested under real operating conditions. As well as doubling the test capacity, the addition of a second seismic bench provides Environne’Tech’s customers with more flexibility for their test campaigns. This makes the service faster, with a considerable reduction in lead times. www.environnetech.fr www.emitech.fr

system has fewer parts in the structural loop, resulting in higher accuracy and better dynamic performance. IGM systems can be more compact due to the more integrated nature of machine components and granite. This provides for the possibility of smaller Abbe offsets and better machine positioning accuracy. In addition, it is simpler to optimize axis design parameters such as travel length and payload capacity because each axis of an IGM solution is engineered and built directly into the main granite structure.
IGM systems can be designed with mechanical or air bearings, ball-screw or linear-motor drives, and a variety of feedback elements ranging from encoders to laser interferometers. Additional axes of motion, such as rotary, lift, or piezo stages, or even galvanometer scanners, can be integrated onto the IGM axes, all of which can be controlled from Aerotech’s A3200 unified control platform.

At Aerotech, we understand that you have a unique set of project requirements, and we are ready to work with you to explore your application needs and provide guidance as to which type of solution—IGM or traditional stage-on-granite—can offer the best solution to address your motion needs.
IGM and traditional stage-on-granite systems each offer distinct advantages, and the choice of which to use depends largely on your application or process, as well as its technical and commercial requirements. IGM systems can have higher stiffness than a stage-on-granite solution because the IGM

achine components such as bearings, encoders, and drive mechanisms are engineered and assembled directly on the granite base and bridge structures in an Integrated Granite Motion (IGM) system. Therefore, IGM systems are distinct from traditional stageon-granite systems where discrete positioning stages and components are used in the system design. Aerotech IGM systems are custom-engineered to fit the unique and specific needs of your application or process.

Besides inserts for deep slots with flat bottom and radiused bottom. For shallows slots, KNS offers a very cost effective solution with double ended inserts (2 cutting edges).
Kennametal’s KNS slotting platform provides a cost-effective but highly productive solution across a wide range of applications.
Slotting has never been faster, easier, and more accurate.

f you’ve ever struggled with inserts coming loose during a slotting operation, keep reading. How about inconsistent slot widths, fumbling with awkward screws and inserts on a slotting cutter, or having to use a piece of shim stock to pry wedged chips from deep inside a slotted workpiece? These are just a few of the problems machinists face when trying to cut narrow slots and grooves, but thanks to the newly introduced Kennametal Narrow Slotting (KNS) cutter, the days of “slotting dread” are over.
MORE INFORMATION
Many Uses, One Solution Slotting is a common machining practice. Scott Etling, Kennametal’s Director of Global Product Management for indexable milling, lists many applications where the KNS excels. Automakers can use the new cutter to separate cast exhaust manifolds and steering components. Equipment manufacturers can cost-effectively mill the clamping slots on shaft supports and stock collars. Power generation and electronics companies now have a more productive way to machine keyways, add heatsink grooves, yokes, and O-ring grooves. Simply put, if there’s narrow slotting, grooving, or parting to be done, KNS is the new go-to solution.

“This tool is a game changer in a number of situations,” Etling says. “Customers can mount a series of KNS cutters on an arbor called ‘Gang Milling’ to either machine multiple grooves at once or conduct multiple cutoff operations. This tool can also be used to remove five-axis machined or 3D-printed parts from their base material. And since raw material prices continue to increase, our customers wish to machine away as little material as possible. Here it’s beneficial to use the narrowest slotting cutter possible to reduce waste. KNS does that.” The Right Stuff The KNS has a Double-V design for secure insert retention. A combination of radial and axial positioning not only improves tool life but part accuracy as well. The insert range accommodates slot widths from 1.6 mm to 6.4 mm (0.063 in. to 0.250 in.). Inserts are available in single—(dash to be used here?) or double-ended cutting edges with either a flat or full radiused cutting edge. The cutter diameters range from 63 mm to 250 mm (2.5 in. to 10 in.), and depending on the body size, arbor or shell mounting (or both) is possible. “We’re really excited about this new design,” he says. “It’s stronger and more accurate than competing solutions and
The KNS boasts a simple but secure Double-V to accurately locate inserts. There’s no chance of movement as there is with other kinds of slotting and grooving cutters. Tool life improves, as does part quality.
The KNS system’s dual keyways provide staggered entry in gang milling situations, reducing cutting forces. And the integral hub is both more accurate and rigid than competing systems.
reduces tooling costs as well. Customers can use both ends of a double-ended KNS insert on shallow slotting applications, then move to a single-ended insert when they need the additional depth. It definitely offers a lot of value.” A Real Winner These features already give Kennametal a substantial lead over the competition in the narrow slotting market, but the benefits don’t stop there. There’s also the carbide. Tim Marshall, senior global product manager for indexable milling notes that Kennametal has made significant improvements in grade technology recently, and that the KNS leverages these developments. “With the KNS program we offer three insert grades,” he says. “KCU25 and KCPM40 are multiphase PVD grades that provide excellent edge stability and wear characteristics in steels, stainless steels, and high temperature alloys, even at elevated feeds and speeds. While KCPK30 is a CVD-coated grade suitable for rough milling and general machining of steels and cast iron.”
Easy-X Assembly The KNS is also easy to use. The innovative, symmetrical Easy-X wrench design means no more digging in the chip pan for lost screws and inserts, no more wedges or clamps to misplace—just pop the wrench into the cutter body, give it a twist, and the insert is easily replaced, even in tight quarters. Each cutter body and wrench are also clearly marked, so there’s no chance of damaging the cutter body by using the wrong tool. Last but not least the integral hub design. This eliminates the need for drive rings and washers, and greatly contributes to the system’s repeatability and accuracy. And because the hub has dual keyways, the cutters can be staggered in gang-milling scenarios, reducing cutting forces and generating a smooth cutting action. We feel quite confident in saying this is the best solution available for narrow slot machining.

Good carbide is important, but so too is the insert geometry. Thanks to a positive rake geometry and special edge preparation, the KNS inserts are free cutting without sacrificing the edge toughness needed in most slotting applications. What’s more, the SGP geometry promotes excellent chip flow, curling even the stringiest materials into tight, easi-
ly-evacuated Cs and 9s. This means you can put the shim stock and home-made chip hooks back in your toolbox.

NEW COMPACT TRANSMITTER FOR ECONOMIC MEMOSENSMODBUS INTEGRATION
MemoRail Modbus A1405N for full-featured Modbus integration of Memosens monitoring stations.
Knick Elektronische Messgeräte expand their slim Memosens transmitter series MemoRail for control cabinet installation with a Modbus interface version.
T
he MemoRail Modbus A1405N is the first multiparameter analyzer that provides operators with an economic, compact transmitter for full-featured integration of Memosens monitoring stations into the fieldbus standard. Up until now, operators could only choose between comprehensively equipped analyzers with a display or compact transmitters with limited functionality.
MORE INFORMATION
The new MemoRail Modbus modules from Knick, which feature a modular housing with a width of just 17.5 mm, not only transmit measured values and diagnostic data to the Modbus master, they also enable unrestricted access to device configuration and sensor calibration through the Modbus RTU protocol. Up to 32 transmitters can be connected to a Modbus master. For the measurement of pH/ORP, conductivity or oxygen, MemoRail Modbus can be combined with all Memosens sensors, whether pH glass, IsFET, oxygen, or conductivity (conductive and inductive). What’s more, the DIN rail module is the only analyzer of its class that enables the connection of LDO sensors (luminescent dissolved oxygen) for the optical measurement of oxygen. The new devices come as 16 | Industry EMEA | September 2018

single- or dual-channel versions with freely combinable parameters or sensors. Either two freely selectable Memosens sensors or a Memosens sensor and a SE 740 LDO can be connected. Additionally, the transmitters allow for the connection of the new SE 554 X/1-AMSN and SE 555 X/1-AMSN combination sensors that synchronously measure pH and ORP values. In this way, a dual-channel MemoRail model provides four readings as well as temperature. The network address for rapid Modbus configuration is set via DIP switches on the front panel. The 24 V DC supply can be connected either via TBUS or via a cable connected to the terminals at the back. Red and green LEDs indicate the device status, communication interruptions, defective sensors or device settings unsuitable to the sensor as well as the device’s maintenance requirements. Knick provides a 3-year warranty on the MemoRail Modbus transmitters. www.knick-international.com/fr
