The DPH 500kVA UPS delivers fully rated power (kVA=kW) and it requires only 50% of the space needed by similar systems from competitors. With Delta’s DCIM, Bytesnet can collect energy consumption data from power meters and environmental detectors in real time to monitor data center operations remotely.

B MORE INFORMATION

ytesnet is a regional collocation and network services provider with two main datacenter locations in Rotterdam and Groningen. In addition to a 2,500 m2 data floor, the 6,500 m2 facility also houses a data lab where research and education take place. As a tier 3+ facility, reliability was an extremely important factor in choosing the power infrastructure.

Protecting the environment through power efficiency At the heart of the d’Root data center is a 6-megawatt power system. The three-phase modular DPH 500kVA Delta UPS that Bytesnet has chosen for its new data center was one of the keys to minimizing the facility’s environmental footprint. With its exceptionally high power density, Delta’s DPH 500kVA UPS requires only 50%of the space needed by competing solutions. This Delta UPS also offers industryleading AC-AC efficiency of 96.5%, resulting in considerably lower energy consumption, CO2 emissions, and costs for Bytesnet. A unique combination of UPS and DCIM Bytesnet selected Delta to supply not only its exceptionally high-density and high-efficiency DPH 500kVA UPS system, but also its comprehensive InfraSuite Manager DCIM system.

NEW PALLET TRUCK TAG INCREASES EQUIPMENT SAFETY

With the new Pallet Truck Tag and Powered Pallet Truck Tag from Brady Corporation, companies can increase legal compliance, support better pallet truck checks and share inspection results on the equipment itself to improve pallet truck safety.

MORE INFORMATION

Increased legal compliance Article 5 from EU Directive 2009/104 / EC states that equipment, which includes pallet trucks, should be reviewed regularly by an authorised person and that these reviews should be recorded in writing and archived. Brady’s Pallet Truck Tag and Powered Pallet Truck Tag make compliance with the directive a lot easier because they can be attached to pallet trucks for easy inspection and because they can store respectively up to 21 or 31 inspection results and inspector signatures on a removable insert.

Best practice equipment checks On the reverse of each tag, an easy-to-follow operator checklist is included based on best practices to support quality equipment checks in order to achieve best-in-class equipment safety. Separate best practice checklists are available for pallet trucks and powered pallet trucks. Visible on the equipment itself Both the Pallet Truck Tag and Powered Pallet Truck Tag holders can easily be fixed to pallet trucks with a cable tie or adhesive. This enables all relevant workers to see the latest equipment inspection status on the equipment itself. A signature from an authorised inspector will confirm the equipment was deemed safe to use after inspection. If the pallet truck did not pass inspection, authorised inspectors can remove the insert, leaving a clear “do not use” message on the holder, informing coworkers they should use one of the other pallet trucks deemed safe to use. Both the Pallet Truck Tag and Powered Pallet Truck Tag can be supplied in a variety of languages. www.brady.eu

ACT NOW TO AVOID CONTRAVENING NEW WORKPLACE EXPOSURE LIMITS

3M™ Gas & Flame Detection is advising businesses or public services that do not comply with updated workplace / occupational exposure limits to chemical agents, could potentially face stern consequences, including prosecution. August 2018 saw the deadline pass for compliance with the revised EU Directive 2017/164/EU. However, for businesses that remain concerned, 3M™ Gas & Flame Detection is offering guidance to ensure the regulations are met.

I MORE INFORMATION

ndicative occupational exposure limit values (IOELV) are health-based, non-binding values which are derived from recent scientific data and take into account the availability of reliable measurement techniques. For any chemical agent with an IOELV set at EU level, Member States are required to establish a national occupational exposure limit. In the UK, for example, EH40 Workplace exposure limits from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have been updated directly in line with EU Directive 2017/164/EU. In the latest revision of EH40, which was introduced in August 2018, new limits have been introduced for 31 substances.

“The updated regulations set out the latest IOELV limits. These have been established in relation to a reference period of 8 hours and are referred to as long-term exposure limit values,” explains Neil Gwinnutt, UK & Ireland Sales Manager, 3M™ Personal Safety Division – Portable Gas Detection. “In addition, for certain chemical agents, shorter reference periods exist, typically 15 minutes, and these are referred to as short-term exposure limit values. In line with the ongoing desire to create safer workplaces, IOELV limits have consequently been reduced in the updated regulations. This means any business that believes it was working safely to previous limits, may now be exceeding them.” By way of example, consider carbon monoxide (CO), which is an extremely common by-product of many industrial processes such as wastewater treatment, steelmaking, forging, chemical production, and oil and gas extraction. The 8-hour exposure limit for CO has been reduced from

30ppm to 20ppm while the 15-minute exposure limit has been tightened from 200ppm to 100ppm.

design, through to equipment specification, installation recommendations, maintenance and service.

“The changes in CO limits will have an impact on many working practices including fire brigades and heating engineers,” says Mr. Gwinnutt.

3M™ Gas & Flame Detection brings together industryleading products from Detcon, Simtronics, Oldham and GMI to provide customers with fixed-point and portable gas detectors and controllers with proven reputations for quality and reliability. The products comply with international certification standards, including ATEX, SIL (Safety Integrity Level), CSA, Marine and IECEx.

Another common gas, hydrogen cyanide (HCN), which is found widely in the plastics manufacturing industry, has seen a new 8-hour exposure limit introduced at 0.9ppm while its 15-minute exposure limit has been reduced from 10ppm to 4.5ppm.

www.gasdetection.3m.com

“New limits have also been introduced for nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and nitric oxide (NO), which are commonplace in the rail industry and generated by diesel locomotives,” says Mr. Gwinnutt. “As a result, rail companies need to ensure that engineers working in maintenance depots or in tunnels are not exposed to levels beyond those stated.”

MORE INFORMATION

The long-term effects on health resulting from exposure to chemical agents are well documented. Employers contravening the new exposure limits could not only be risking the health and safety of their team, but find themselves subject to prosecution. To help avoid this situation, any concerned employer is urged to contact 3M™. 224 STAGEMAKER HOISTS

Revolutionary Solution from VERLINDE to Modernize Main GLAVKINO Tv and Film Studio. Providing customers using film set pavilions with convenient system of equipment suspension is one of the main tasks during film and television shooting. GLAVKINO complex chose solution from Sofit Light, purchasing 224 STAGEMAKER SR5 hoists.

G

LAVKINO film and television complex was founded in 2008. Today it has nine equipped film studios with a total area of 21,000 m2. It is here that the shows are filmed, such as “You are Super”, “Where is the Logic”, other programs for TNT and other popular channels. Pavilions of the complex are also involved in filming of big cinema and popular television series.

MORE INFORMATION

Even a year ago, to accommodate lighting equipment and scenery in the shooting pavilions, customers had to invite climbers, lay lines and solve other tasks of working at high altitude with the risk to their lives. It took time and money. Management of the complex faced with the need to extensively modernize “stuffing” of the pavilions. The main goal was to develop a system of independent suspensions which would reduce time required for installation and ease the task of preparing pavilions for filming. Sofit Light project became the ultimate solution.

26

“We had a goal to provide our customers with the opportunity to use an automated suspension, since we have very high ceilings, not everyone has access to them, but this is necessary for work,” said Vlad Mazurov, head of the directorate for customer operations. “Sofit Light managed to submit such a project proposal that we were satisfied with, then to develop the project in full scope, and to successfully implement it.” “For our company, this is the largest sale of hoists to such a significant customer as GLAVKINO. We offered STAGEMAKER hoists of a new generation to the management and technical specialists,” says Arkady Shakhidzhanov, Director of SOFIT LITE. “The feasibility of introducing innovation from VERLINDE has been estimated for several months. Considering all the advantages, specifications, and price/ quality ratio, preference was given to our proposal.” Sofit Light specialises in complex equipping of facilities (theatrical/entertaining) of culture, sport, leisure, and business with light, sound, stage, and low-current

using STAGEMAKER hoists for many years, we took into account a large number of positive recommendations. STAGEMAKER hoists, indeed, justified our choice: besides the laconic design and reliable uninterrupted operation, we were surprised by hoist motor soft working – low noise during filming is very important.”

VERLINDE is a leading manufacturer of lifting and transport equipment. The plant of the company was founded in France in 1858. In 1975, after the launch of the first electric lift STAGEMAKER Litachain L104, VERLINDE successfully entered the market of professional equipment for the show industry and became the world leader in the production of electric chain hoists and lifting mechanisms for the stage. STAGEMAKER electric chain hoists are designed to work with stage and theater equipment, providing accurate load positioning, smooth and silent lifting.

Installation took place in difficult conditions – equipment had to be located in pavilions occupied for shooting, that could not be cleared. In some pavilions we had to work only during intervals between shooting, and all the scenery remained in place, while climbers worked atop.

Denis Chuvilkin, head of the hardware complex in GLAVKINO: “After collecting feedback from companies that have been

VERLINDE annually provides maintenance training of STAGEMAKER hoists for dealers. Employees of Sofit Light are officially certified by VERLINDE and will provide after-sales service of STAGEMAKER hoists for GLAVKINO. It is clear that such a scope of purchased equipment requires high-quality maintenance, and availability of service is very important part of equipment and after-sales support complex for GLAVKINO.

According to the installation diagram, hoists were mounted together with trusses. It is possible to strengthen the structure if necessary, for this part of the hoists are stored in the warehouse. Full installation took 4 months, during this time about a thousand meters of trusses and 216 hoists were mounted. Load capacity of STAGEMAKER SR5 model is 500 kg, and for this project was used D8 version with a double brake. Basic arrangement is used in several pavilions. The hoists have their proper locations, and there are switching boxes on the walls – one per two hoists, with layout to all points on the ceiling. The customers get prepared layout diagram, but if they are not satisfied with the standard scheme on the ceiling, they lower everything on the floor, assemble it for convenient work, and then return layout back. 19 | Industry EMEA | April 2019

THE SIZE IS RIGHT FOR RUDD MACNAMARA AS IT ACQUIRES A NEW KEYENCE INSTANT MEASURING SYSTEM

Inspecting parts in all phases of a manufacturing process is crucial for the many customers of KEYENCE, a specialist in precision measurement and automation.

T

he company offers a wide range of measurement and inspection products, deployed across both productions, assembly line and laboratory environments, to ensure its customers achieve their quality goals. The company’s industry-leading IM Series Image Dimension Measurement systems allow customers to accurately and instantaneously perform dimensional inspections at a level of precision that that was not previously possible.

MORE INFORMATION

For high precision measurement applications, KEYENCE offers a variety of measurement systems that quickly communicate whether manufactured parts are good… or no good. When so much is at stake, KEYENCE measurement systems consistently deliver benefits to customers – including first-time customers. Enter Rudd Macnamara, formerly an engraving company established by Ernest Rudd in 1890. The Rudd Macnamara of today is a diverse manufacturing organisation centred on print. The company is based in Handsworth near Birmingham, in the very heart of the United Kingdom’s industrial area.

19 | Industry EMEA | April 2019

“We have a very wide range of in-house processes and we offer our customers innovative print solutions, which they may not be able to find elsewhere” explains Graham Caunce, Managing Director at Rudd Macnamara. “Two of the most important markets we serve are the brewery & drinks sector where we manufacture bespoke font branding, beer pump clips, and bar signs; and the aerospace sector where we manufacture nameplates and labels used on equipment that is incorporated into aircraft, and also branding decals for aircraft exteriors.” Rudd Macnamara management identified a need for more precise measuring equipment as a direct result of end users’ complex requirements. “Dimensional integrity of our nameplates is critical to our business” continues Caunce. “Most of the nameplates we make are in anodised aluminium or stainless steel manufactured using a variety of processing techniques resulting in some level of variability that needs to be controlled and eliminated.” The Midlands specialist had been manufacturing these parts for many years. However, it became of the utmost importance to improve assurance processes according

NEWS

to Graham Caunce. “We started looking not only at digital optical measuring solutions but also at our internal manufacturing processes to reduce those variabilities which includes hard tooling.” Being able to guarantee parts were consistently within tolerance was crucial to Rudd Macnamara’s future success. With that in mind, company management took a closer look at tooling. “We felt that to achieve the tolerances required on a consistent basis some of the processes employed needed to be replaced by blanking and piercing tools as well as CNC processing where possible” says Caunce.

“We looked at other machines but we found the KEYENCE IM7000 system was quick to program and even quicker to use” analyses Caunce, who says Rudd Macnamara found its own “sweet spot”: “We find it is best to load the bed with some 10 parts. That makes it is easy to keep track of the good parts and identify any rejects. We can also identify and measure print whereas competitive machines could not.” Since Rudd Macnamara introduced this new measurement machine, internal reject rates have improved. “That can only help the bottom line,” concludes the company’s managing director. www.keyence.co.uk MORE INFORMATION

Staff also needed a quick way of checking that what they were manufacturing was in line with drawing. This is where the investment in a KEYENCE IM-7000 system proved especially helpful: it allows faster, easier and more consistent measurements of width, radius and height… all with a single device. The amount of time and effort required for inspection is reduced drastically. In addition, measurement data from the IM-7000 system is automatically saved as soon as a part is measured. Inspection reports can be created with the push of a button, increasing post-measurement work efficiency.

personnel know that what is supplied is correct, in line with drawing and within tolerance. Moreover, where the KEYENCE machine identifies a high number of rejects, staff are able to review the route to manufacture and quickly identify any improvements that are required.

According to Rudd Macnamara’s managing director, the best word to describe how this acquisition helped the company is “assurance”. It is now possible to quickly check a large number of parts and identify any rejects. Rudd Macnamara’s 19 | Industry EMEA | April 2019

ANTHONY MACHINE AND KENNAMETAL TEAM-UP TO REDUCE SETUP TIMES

Anthony Machine has been using KM throughout the shop for years, so when the time came to equip their new Y-axis lathes from DMG Mori with quick-change tooling, the choice was clear.

Texas job shop reaps the benefits of quick-change toolholders.

Kennametal senior sales engineer Mark Davis was there to help, just as he’s been for the past decade. He explained to Anthony that the best way to reduce setup times and maximize the new machines’ potential would be to equip them with Turret Adapted Clamping Units (TACU) and KM quick-change toolholders.

One of these is Anthony Machine Inc. Since 1946, the San Antonio job shop has served a variety of industries, including oil and gas, mining, transportation and power generation. With all that precision machining experience, there’s little this San Antonio job shop can’t handle. However, after the company purchased a pair of NLX 3000 1250 universal turning centers from CNC machine builder DMG Mori—the shop’s first Y-axis, live-tool lathes—Anthony’s manufacturing team was challenged with making the most of that new investment.

“The TACU system supports everything from KM32 up to KM63,” Davis says. “We offer blocks for both static and driven tools, and can tool up lathes from Okuma, Haas, Mazak, Doosan, and of course DMG Mori—pretty much all of the major machine tool builders, with more coming online all the time. This makes it both easy and cost-effective for our customers to equip more than 80 models of CNC turning centers with a fast, flexible and accurate quick-change tool holding system.”According to Anthony Machine manufacturing technologist Daniel Goller, the decision to adopt TACU and KM for the new machines was an easy one. “Over the years, we’ve built a number of KM-equipped custom toolholders for deep boring and other machining operations on our CNC lathes and machining centers, and we use Kennametal? on several of the shop’s manual turret lathes to overcome limitations with available tool positions,” he says. “On more than one occasion, we’ve earned new

The speed and repeatability of KM quick-change tooling has made a “striking difference” on many of the jobs at Anthony Machine.

business because KM was able to achieve tolerances and surface finishes that others couldn’t do with conventional tooling.” Anthony’s operations manager Mohsen Saleh agrees. “The differences are striking,” he says. “Compared to the traditional wedge and screw-style blocks that come standard on most machines, the KM-equipped TACU units are both faster and more accurate. We routinely hold tolerances of 0.0005" (0.013 mm) and I’m told that part size doesn’t change from one clamping to the next. The turret’s less crowded, everything’s easier to get at, and you don’t have the chatter and deflection that you often find with your typical straight shank tools and set-screw type boring bar holders.”

Saleh summarizes Anthony’s recent success with a bit of company perspective. “We bought our first CNC machine in 1986,” he says. “At that time, we were using a well-known competitive brand, and then Kennametal came knocking. What first struck us was their service-oriented attitude. They’ve always been willing to come in and work with us on applications, which together with the quality of their products is why they’ve since become our preferred tooling 19 | Industry EMEA | April 2019

PEPPERL+FUCHS INTRODUCES THE NEXT-GENERATION PURGE AND PRESSURIZATION SYSTEM

Bebco EPS 7500-Series Type Ex pzc/Type Z.

The new Bebco EPS® 7500 Series Ex pzc / Type Z sets new standards for global purge solutions.

P

epperl+Fuchs, a world leader in process automation, has introduced an advanced Bebco EPS® purge and pressurization system, designed for Class I or II/Div. 2 and Zone 2/22 locations. This innovative and compact manual or automatic system delivers all the features needed for reliable hazardous location protection within a small, streamlined solution.

MORE INFORMATION

The 7500 series Ex pzc/Type Z purge and pressurization system can be fully automatic or manual and purges a common enclosure of hazardous gas or dust to maintain positive pressure. It effectively reduces the classification within the protected enclosure to a non-hazardous area. The 7500 carries ATEX and IECEx certifications and is UL listed. It operates within an extremely small footprint of only 5.8” x 3.8” x 1.9”.

“The new, compact 7500 series is easy to use, offering absolute reliability and efficiency. When fully automated it provides excellent enclosure protection for electrical equipment like motors, drives, control panels and cabinets, and gas analyzers,” said Kristen Barbour, Marketing Manager. “Whether you need gas or dust protection in the oil and gas, chemical, maritime, or offshore industry – the Bebco EPS 7500 can be used in process industries around the world for applications that previously required heavier and more expensive explosion-proof protection.” The 7500 Series includes intelligent automatic monitoring and control of enclosure pressure with dilution and continuous flow functionality. The system makes automatic adjustments and provides an alarm output for reliable protection. It is designed in marine-grade chromate aluminum – making it rugged enough to withstand the harsh conditions of many process industries. The 7500 uses universal AC/DC power and is available as both a panel mount and external mount. The large touch screen enables quick and easy setup while also providing status LEDs, a bar graph for pressure, and multiple program selections. www.pepperl-fuchs.com

R200 AND R201

The R100-, R101- and R103- with the new R200- and R201 sensors.

The New Optical Sensors for Longer Operating Distances.

W

ith the R200 and R201 designs, the forwardthinking product design of photoelectric sensors from Pepperl+Fuchs enables applications with longer operating distances. Just like the compact R100, R101, and R103 series, both new products consistently offer all photoelectric functional principles in a design that is now larger and suitable for specific mounting situations. Usability is intuitive and identical across all series—and the standardized IO-Link connection via the latest Smart Sensor Profiles also enables convenient and reliable integration of the sensors.

Perfect Usability All series have an intuitive and identical look and feel during parameterization. Quick and easy sensor adjustment is guaranteed by a multiturn potentiometer and a push button, which function as a combined operating element with three LEDs for visualizing the configuration, status, and diagnostics. Across all series the user benefits from standardized usability: The look and feel when parameterizing a thru-beam sensor, a retroreflective sensor, or a diffuse mode sensor for the R100, R101 or R103 series is the same as for the R200 and R201 designs. This also applies to measuring devices with multiple switch points or distance sensors.

MORE INFORMATION

With the R100, R101, and R103 series, as well as the new R200 and R201 sensors, choosing the relevant sensor is easier and users also benefit from maximum flexibility in every application and mounting situation. In terms of their technical features, the new series also include robust DuraBeam laser technology and high-precision Multi Pixel Technology (MPT) for distance measurement. Standardized usability across all series and functional principles plus the IO-Link interface facilitate parameterization of the sensors during commissioning and when there is a change to the functional principle or to another series.

Identical Functional Principles The new R200 and R201 series offer all photoelectric functional principles: thru-beam sensors, retroreflective sensors with a polarization filter or for clear object recognition, energetic diffuse mode sensors, sensors with background suppression and foreground suppression, measuring light barriers with two switch points, and distance sensors.
