INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION
The Admissions to Schools Act 2018 has made the publication of an Admissions Policy and an Admissions Notice a legal requirement for all schools. Although passed in 2018, it was the commencement of certain sections of the Act in early 2020 which prompted the Dept of Education & Skills to issue Circular 0007/2020, instructing schools to begin preparation and ratification of their Admissions Policies.
1.2 TIMELINE FOR ADMISSIONS POLICY Circular 0007/2020 instructs Board of Managements (BoMs) to immediately consult with:
The patron Parents of children attending the school School staff
The Admissions Policy must be submitted to the Patron by 30 May 2020, in accordance with Section 62 of the Act. The Patron must approve the Admissions Policy, or modify it in consultation with the Board of Management before 15 September 2020. The Admissions Policy must be published by the Board of Managment, but not before 1 September 2020.
1.3 TIMELINE FOR ADMISSIONS NOTICE Section 63 of the Act requires all schools to publish an Admissions Notice at least one week before it begins its Admissions Process for the following school year. The school cannot begin accepting applications before 1 October for the following school year. The Admissions Notice therefore must be published at least one week before 1 October, but after the publication of the Admissions Policy.

2
