Tempair units Tempair is a low energy, air source, heat pump system providing heating, cooling and recovery for occupancy fresh air control. Energy for heating or cooing is provided by the combined operation of a recovery wheel and a variable capacity air source heat pump.

System applications VARV (variable air and refrigerant volume) Variable volume of supply and extract fans controlled from a discharge air pressure sensor. Single zone Temperature control from a return air sensor. Variable volume control of fans from a return CO2 sensor, to suit occupancy. Zone heating Will operate on recirculation to enable room temperature to rise with zone heaters prior to fresh air operation. Temperature control from return air. Reduced airflow available with zone isolation. Tempered air Temperature control from supply air sensor to give tempered air supply to all zones.

Operation A rotating recovery wheel transfers 70% of the energy from the room exhaust air to the supply air. The heat pump absorbs the energy from the exhaust air to the refrigerant in the outdoor coil, which is then compressed by the compressor, causing its temperature to rise. The indoor coil then transfers the heat to the supply air. The combined output to input power ratio (KW), for the heating provided by the recovery wheel and compressor is 10:1 (this includes the power consumption for air pressure added by the wheel and heat pump system).

System benefits • Savings in LPHW, DX or CW pipework cost, space and time • Utilises renewable energy for air source heat pump. • Reduced plant space having heating and cooling integral to the unit. • Variable capacity scroll compressors. • All controls prewired in units. • Compressors available with refrigerant pump down to reduce possibility of gas escape. • Reduced peristaltic loads.

Why choose natural ventilation?

Natural ventilation uses wind speed and temperature to achieve controlled ventilation, providing the benefits of natural air with the security and control of HVAC systems. Natural ventilation is not a new concept. It has been part of Middle Eastern architecture for thousands of years, but became little used as air conditioning was introduced following World War II. However, as environmental concerns have increased and sustainable design has become more desirable, natural ventilation has

become the preferred system for schools and buildings.

Natural ventilation can also improve the health of the buildingʼs occupants, and has been proven to alleviate Sick Building Syndrome, improving concentration rates and reducing absenteeism.

far more efficient than HVAC alone. It therefore gives considerable cost savings through reduced construction costs, as well as reduced maintenance and running costs and free night‑time cooling.

The energy used by natural ventilation is minimal, with the motors used to power the dampers the only draw on natural resources.

The ethos of a natural ventilation system is one that fully encompasses the occupantsʼ requirements, the design and construction as well as the costs and benefits.

Even hybrid systems, which are a combination of passive ventilation and fan assistance, are

Flexibility and variation in design lead to an individual solution for each unique building.

Principles of natural ventilation... The Stack Effect Stack effect is temperature induced. When there is a temperature difference between two adjoining volumes of air, the warmer air will have lower density and be more buoyant, thus will rise above the cold air creating an upward air stream. In order for a building to be ventilated adequately via stack effect, the inside and

4

outside temperatures must be different so that warmer indoor air rises and escapes the building at higher apertures, while colder, denser air from the exterior enters the building through lower level openings. Stack effect increases with greater temperature difference and increased height between the higher and lower apertures.

tek intonat® offers a number of natural ventilation strategies depending on your aesthetic and ventilation requirements.

Single‑side ventilation: w Predominantly driven by wind pressure and can adequately ventilate smaller rooms with average occupancies. w Uses wall units. w Achieves penetration depths of up to 2.5 times the room height.

Cross ventilation: w Driven by wind pressure and can be aided by the Stack Effect if there is a sufficient difference in heights between the two vents. w Uses wall units w Achieves penetration depths of up to 5 times the room height.

Passive stack ventilation: w Combines the Wind Effect and Stack Effect. Also offers night‑time cooling. w Uses Wall Unit + Stack Ventilator. w Will achieve up to double the penetration of cross ventilation.

Displacement Ventilation: w Uses a single roof stack unit which lets in high density cool air on the windward side and expels warmer, more buoyant exhaust air on the leeward side. w Useful for exhausting stale air from multiple classrooms and night‑time cooling.

tek intonat® have developed a range of fans which can be used in conjunction with many of our natural ventilation products.

tek intonat® ʼs hybrid fan sys‑ tem has been developed for underfloor or ceiling void mounting to provide a boost to natural ventilation.

Electric or solar powered fans can be used with tek intonat® ‑ passive and ‑active stacks, tek intonat® ‑wall units, or as stand alone items like the super quiet hybrid fan shown below.

This combines full room purge volume with extremely low regenerated noise and power consumption. A valuable addition when the route to corridor becomes congested.

The units are fully speed controllable and can provide a volume from 180l/s up to 345l/s. Even on high speed the Noise Rating level for the room does not exceed NR35. Access to the fan motor is provided for maintenance and a range of casing configurations provide flexibility.

tek intonat®‑acoustics Attenuated Natural Ventilation Units tek intonat® have designed a selection of attenuators incorporated into natural ventilation units. One system incorporates an inline attenuator between the thermally insulated motorised damper and the internal face of the unit. The acoustic loss of the inline attenuator is dependent on the free area and length of the attenuated section. Z‑shaped attenuator

w Pre‑wireable base and plug‑on fascia plate assists in easy, time saving installation.

These controllers can be linked to either a time clock or receive a time signal from a BMS to activate the optional night cooling programme (night cooling only available with the manual override options).

Temperature Control: The room set point for the control of the ventilation dampers/automated windows can be adjusted in 1° C increments between 21° C and 26° C with a seasonal change over and a night cooling option if a time clock or BMS time signal is available.

CO2 Indication (optional): Each room device can also be fitted with a further 3 LEDs to identify the level of CO2 within the space; these are green, amber and red. With green being healthy and red being high levels of CO2 ppm`s.

Localised heating can also be controlled and is set 2° C below the room set point.

Night Cooling: To enable the Night cooling pre‑programmed software, the device needs to be in (Night Mode) and the night cooling enabled, this then cools the building to just below the room set point. When the time switch is in (Night Mode), by holding down the open/close buttons this will enable this mode to be turned on/off. (Indicated by the Auto LED ON or OFF).

Manual Override (optional): Each room device has manual override capabilities which give the end user control of the ventilation strategy to suit the room application. The device consists of two push buttons and three LED lights, the push buttons enable the end user to open or close the ventilation as required, the LEDs give an indication that the system has either been overridden or is in Auto mode. Once the system has been overridden it will stay in that mode for 30 minutes, after this time the system will revert back to Auto mode.

Summer/Winter: The Summer set point can be selected to be below the Winter set point, this is 2C below that set value on the dip switches. To select Summer mode, in (Day Mode) hold both the open/close buttons down for 5 seconds, lights flash, push the open button for Summer mode, or close button for Winter mode.

Window Control The Window Control Module contains a 24v DC Power Supply and an iWAC module per Window Actuator that controls via a 0/10 VDC positioning signal from a suitable controller. The WCM features an intelligent ʻself strokingʼ operation and controls the 24v DC window actuator in steps to prevent noise disturbance to end users. The Window Control Module allows only one window to operate at time.

18

This saves the expense and space in only needing a DC power supply rated for the largest actuator (maximum 3 Amp per controller) to be operated.

Our air source heat pumps provide a very efficient means of utilising renewable energy whilst being very straightforward in their installation. The ICS Heat Pump Technology range of air source heat pumps provides units with capacities from 5kW to 200kW which are suitable for a wide range of applications. Single phase 240v powered air source heat pump units are available up to a capacity of 14kW and three phase 415v units complete the range for larger residential heat pump and commercial applications. Modular capability allows for the multiple connection of up to six units operating as one single package, hence large capacity projects can be specified by utilising this modular configuration approach. The single controller ensures that running hours are equalised & maintained across the various heat pumps whilst also ensuring that the system operates with maximum modular part load efficiency at all times.

AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMPS Heat energy is collected from the external ambient air using the heat pumps integral evaporator coil. This energy is then transferred as high grade heat into the building.

AWR DHW2 XE SL Unit Description HEATING

COOLING

HOT WATER

HEATING + HOT WATER

COOLING + HOT WATER

The DeLonghi Prana AWR DHW2 XE SL are a unique range of commercial air source heat pumps which are capable of providing a high efficiency combination of output conditions: • Heating only • Simultaneous heating and hot water to 55ºC** • Hot water only • Cooling only • Simultaneous cooling and hot water with up to 100% heat recovery*** • Simultaneous cooling and heating with up to 100% heat recovery*** These units can be specified to suit a particular application and due to their ability in being able to provide two simultaneous outputs they are able to provide real benefits on both large residential and commercial applications. Within the commercial sector the AWR DHW range provides flexibility and real environmental benefits. These Heat Pumps will provide up to 100% heat recovery which then benefits the user with free heating or hot water. A growing demand for energy and heat recovery has created a highly efficient requirement to use these units to recover waste energy from waste water or fluid flows, recovering energy from cooling towers or waste water flows is easily achievable when utilising these units in heat recovery specification.

Unit Summary AWR DHW2 XE SL UNITS: AWR CAPACITY: 20kW-33kW POWER SUPPLY: Single Phase & Three Phase models These units provide simultaneous supplies of domestic hot water and heating/air conditioning. HIGH EFFICIENCY & PERFORMANCE: COP 3.87 (387% efficient) *Average coefficient of performance (COP) for the AWR DHW2 XE SL range based on an ambient temperature of 7ºC and 35ºC flow temperature

Also these heat pump units will provide up to 100% duty on either primary or secondary heat exchangers along with the ability to provide a combination of heating and hot water simultaneously or heating and cooling simultaneously with up to 100% heat recovery. This allows these heat pump units to provide this simultaneous output feature to manage seasonal heating and cooling loads from the same heat pump unit***. These DeLonghi Professional units are high specification heat pumps which are built to exacting standards with regard to efficiency and functionality. All the units are European manufactured and benefit from the DeLonghi Professional approach to product development and quality management providing the complete package that would be expected from a premier manufacturer.

NOTE. Actual system efficiency (COP) and annual performance will depend on the distribution/emiiter system utilised. Care should be taken to ensure that the heat pump is installed in order to provide efficient operational performance. AXIAL

FEATURES & OPERATIONAL BENEFITS: • MSC accredited heat pumps, certificate HP0005 • Fully self-contained unit – no external refrigerant pipes • Standard pipe work installation to suit a plumber or heating engineer • Highly efficient and flexible design with easy to use controls • Heating, cooling and domestic hot water provided • Suitable for large capacity hot water users and simultaneous heating & air conditioning applications

*(COP is shown without circulation pump input power. HEATING + HOT WATER

COOLING + HOT WATER

Unit Description The DeLonghi Professional BWR DHW2 are a unique range of commercial ground or water source heat pumps which are capable of providing a high efficiency combination of output conditions: • • • • • •

Heating only Simultaneous heating and hot water to 55ºC. Hot water only Cooling only Simultaneous cooling and hot water with up to 100% heat recovery Simultaneous cooling and heating with up to 100% heat recovery

• These units can be specified to suit a particular application and due to their ability to provide two simultaneous outputs they are able to provide real benefits on both residential and commercial applications. • Within the commercial sector these heat pumps provide flexibility and real environmental benefits. As an alternative to conventional VRF systems these units remove all of the refrigerant from within a building and therefore significantly remove the potential for refrigerant leakage therefore complying completely with the objectives of the F Gas regulations.

Unit Summary BWR DHW2 UNITS: WW/WWR & BW/BWR CAPACITY: 5kW-40kW POWER SUPPLY: Single Phase & Three Phase models These units provide simultaneous supplies of domestic hot water and heating/air conditioning. HIGH EFFICIENCY & PERFORMANCE: COP 3.56 (356% efficient) BWR DHW2 source flow temperature 0ºC/-3ºC & output flow temp 35ºC*

COP 4.57 (457% efficient) WWR DHW2 source flow temperature 5ºC/10ºC & output flow temp 35ºC*

*Average COP for the BWR & WWR DHW2 ranges NOTE. Actual system efficiency (COP) and annual performance will depend on the distribution/emiiter system utilised. Care should be taken to ensure that the heat pump is installed in order to provide efficient operational performance.

FEATURES & OPERATIONAL BENEFITS: • Fully self-contained unit – no external refrigerant pipes • Incorporates source and circulation pumps as standard • Highly efficient and flexible design with easy to use controls • Heating, cooling and domestic hot water provided • Suitable for large capacity hot water users and simultaneous heating & air conditioning applications

• Also when operating on a split heating/hot water and air conditioning load these heat pumps will provide up to 100% heat recovery which then benefits the user with free heating or hot water. • A growing demand for energy and heat recovery has created a highly efficient requirement to use these units to recover waste energy from waste water or fluid flows, recovering energy from cooling towers or waste water flows is easily achievable when utilising these units in heat recovery specification. • Also these heat pump units will provide up to 100% duty on either primary or secondary heat exchangers along with the ability to provide a combination of load capability heating and hot water simultaneously or heating and cooling simultaneously with up to 100% heat recovery. This allows the heat pump units to provide this simultaneous output feature to manage seasonal heating and cooling loads from the same heat pump unit. • These DeLonghi Professional units are high specification heat pumps which are built to exacting standards with regard to efficiency and functionality. All the units are European manufactured and benefit from the DeLonghi Professional approach to product development and quality management providing the complete package that would be expected from a premier manufacturer.

Buffer Tanks Best practice standards require a buffer tank to be incorporated within any heat pump system. The buffer tank provides thermal mass and inertia to the system whilst providing a thermal buffer during the heat pumps defrost cycle. The buffer tank also provides an efficient means of incorporating any number of heat pumps or distribution circuits within a single system i.e. a standard multi tap buffer allows for 2 x heat pumps and 2 x output circuits to be easily connected. • Provide adequate thermal mass • Ensure system volume is maintained at all times (regardless of any zone control) • Provides thermal inertia during the defrost cycle The buffer tank also provides a thermal break between the heat pump and the distribution system, this allows both sides of the system (heat pump and property) to operate at the optimum temperature difference in order to achieve maximum efficiency. A heat pump will require a narrow temperature difference (typically 5ºC to 6ºC) where as the distribution system may require a wider temperature difference i.e. when specifying a retrofit installation or similar. underfloor heating

Electric underfloor heating Your benefits A comfortable, efficient and economical alternative to conventional heating. DEVI systems are also invisible, providing total freedom when decorating and furnishing.

Heat rises Underfloor heating radiates heat evenly across the whole floor area, providing maximum comfort levels; warm feet and cooler at head height, whereas traditional systems provide heat by convection; the hot air rises and leaves a mass of warm air at ceiling level, where it cools and returns as a draught.

Your benefits

Invisible comfort

Economical Typically, electric underfloor heating makes it possible to lower the average room temperature by 2ยบC without affecting the level of comfort. This means that heating can be reduced by around 20%, which is both an economic and an environmental advantage.

Capital cost savings Once installed, there are no future maintenance costs or contracts to consider. There is also no need to channel emissions out of the building, which greatly simplifies the design process.

Health benefits With electric underfloor heating, there are no travelling dust particles and no moisture content to support dust mites, which greatly benefits those who suffer from dust allergies and asthma.

Total floor solutions DEVI strives to ensure that the installation process is as efficient as possible. Working closely with other organisations, we are able to offer a total solution for your project, encompassing the work of three trades; insulation, heating installation and screed. As well as providing one point of responsibility, this also means that the build programme can be streamlined in order to achieve the highest levels of efficiency. As an example; for a large project, in a typical week DEVI would prepare the floor on a Monday and Tuesday, install the heating cables on Wednesday and Thursday and screed on a Friday.

Floor constructions Loose-laid cable systems deviflex installed onto concrete floors deviflex can be installed into floors utilising both on or offpeak tariffs. The system can be used as a direct acting system using on-peak electricity tariffs, available 24 hours a day and utilising electricity directly when you need it. Alternatively, DEVI’s off-peak heating system is designed to utilise electricity during low tariff periods.

Floor finish - can be tiles, wood, carpet, laminate (see below) Adhesive (if applicable) Screed Floor sensor deviflex cable Fixing strip

Here, the cables are attached to either a foil-faced insulation, sound resiliant layer or polythene. A screed is then applied. If required, DEVI can work to Robust Standard Detail floor constructions.

Insulation

Base-floor

deviflex installed within wooden floors DEVI systems can be installed in all types of wooden floor constructions and beneath wooden floorcoverings. The precise control ensures that the temperature in the floor construction always corresponds to the tolerance level that the manufacturer of the floor surface has recommended. This floor construction shows cables installed in between timber joists. The insulation is laid between the joists and then the heating cables are fixed to the insulation. The joists are notched or left short of the wall to allow the cables to pass from one joist to another.

devicell DRY insulation plates devicell DRY insulation plates are ideal for quick and simple installation of underfloor heating beneath wooden floors. devicell can be laid onto both concrete and timber floor. In this case, the devicell plates are covered by an acoustic underlay and then the chosen floor covering.

Floor surfaces DEVI underfloor heating systems are suitable for use with most types of floorcovering, including wood, laminate, ceramic tiles, natural stone and vinyl. The cable systems are also suitable for areas that are carpeted.

About Biomass Plant based biomass fuel is considered ‘carbon neutral’ – it takes carbon out of the atmosphere whilst it is growing and returns it as it is burned. On a sustainable basis, biomass is harvested as part of a constantly replenished crop, maintaining a closed carbon cycle with no net change in atmospheric CO2 levels. The most common fuel sources used in biomass boilers are: Wood chip Wood pellets Logs Firewood Why Choose Biomass Government subsidy available (see RHI scheme below) Significant savings on fuel costs compared to other sources e.g. oil, coal, gas and LPG combined with security of supply Reduced carbon footprint – lower CO2 emissions when compared with fossil fuels. Environmental benefits - burning waste wood that otherwise might be sent to a landfill site; Social benefits - local fuel source widely available resulting in local investment and employment. Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme *NEW* The UK government has introduced the RHI scheme to encourage the switch to heat generated by renewable sources. This subsidy applies to qualifying biomass installations:  Up to 7.9p paid per kWh of useful heat  Tariff is dependent on the size of boiler  Payable to owner of the equipment  Payable on a quarterly basis, guaranteed for 20 years.  Immediate eligibility See our website for full details www.ashwellbiomass.com

Commercial Rainwater Harvesting Systems

www.aqua-lity.co.uk

Rainwater Harvesting Introduction Water, or the lack of water, is becoming an ever increasing issue in the UK and needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency. Climate change, over extraction of water resources and population growth are largely to blame for the current and future areas of water stress in the UK. Indeed, we are seeing an increasing use of Hosepipe Bans being implemented by a number of Water Companies in the UK as part of the measures to combat this very real problem New technologies like rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling enable us to reduce the water consumption by using resources that are mostly available to all of us – coming from the roof or draining from our showers, baths and hand wash basins. Why not make use of them?

Great benefits with little effort:         

Saving mains water Flood reduction due to storage tanks and usage Combinable with our greywater recycling systems Compact system and easy to install components Adoptable to every type of building due to flexible above or below ground systems No use of chemicals Energy efficient system design Enhanced Capital Allowance applicable via Water Technology List Complies with BREEAM, LEED, CFSH & WRAS requirements

Best water quality due to simple three step filtration/separation Rainwater is collected from the roof and collected via the gutter or siphonic drainage system. Before entering the storage tank, the water is filtered. Large particles such as leaves, moss and twigs are separated. The filtered water is fed into the storage tank via a calmed inlet, thus ensuring that the water inside of the tank stays calm and small particles can settle to the bottom or float to the surface. The water is then pumped to the serviced appliances via a floating extraction which always takes the water below the surface and above the bottom of the tank. The floating extraction has another filter to avoid fine suspended matter entering the supply. Water quality If a rainwater harvesting system is professionally designed and installed, the water quality should be more than sufficient for non potable applications such as WC flushing, laundry etc. More details on the water quality are available in BS8515:2009. www.aqua-lity.co.uk

Pre-Filtration

Highly efficient, manual to self-cleaning, low invert levels Aquality offers a vast range of filters to suit from 150m² to 60,000m² roof area. They can be installed underground, indoors or factory installed in our storage tanks. Filters should be self-cleaning but reality shows that maintenance cannot be avoided unless the filters are equipped with a self-cleaning mechanism. These can be semi-automatic or fully automatic. The majority of our filters are prefitted with semi/fully automatic cleaning facilities.

Operation

The commercial filters have been developed for large rainwater harvesting systems to cope with flow rates up to 1800 l/s. The filters use a special, purpose designed stainless steel grid with a filter mesh size of 0.7mm. The filter grid elements are formed so that they make perfect use of the water molecule characteristics and therefore the water can pass to the storage tank at high collection efficiency of up to 99%. Dirt particles such as leaves, moss & twigs are separated out. This not only reduces the amount of organic load reaching the tank, but also reduces potential maintenance of the storage tank itself. Separating dirt particles while keeping high filter efficiency

Particles will get stuck in the filter grid over time, so filter eventually needs to be cleaned. Debris can be removed by simply flushing the filter grid, therefore access to the filter grids is essential. As most filters are underground installations, with potential confined space issues, a semi-automatic or even fully automatic cleaning system is recommended. The majority of our filters are either semi or fully automatic. Fully automatic filters work in conjunction with Aquality’s control units.

AWD filter – water diversion without mechanical moving parts:

In cases where the rainwater needs to be diverted away from the tank when it is full e.g. due to low drainage connections, the AWD filter is the perfect option. It diverts the rainwater away from the tank by itself when the tank is full using a patented air bubble effect.  Filter with high collection efficiency  Stainless steel grid  Water diversion without using moving mechanical parts  Ideal for combination with greywater systems to comply with BS8525

Rainwater Storage tanks

Highly flexible range for every situation 500 – 400,000 ltr capacity in a single tank

Aquality aims to provide a solution not a product. Therefore we offer a flexible product range including tanks in all sizes that will suit any requirement – high loading, above or underground, modular & easy to transport. The tank material is chosen to suit site specific requirements. All tanks are equipped with calmed inlets and an overflow device as to BS8515. They can be factory fitted with a filter, thus easing installation. Integrated filters will reduce drainage fall through the system.

For underground installations, GRP, PE Concrete & plastic box (crate) systems are recommended.

For above ground installations, our large range of sectional/single piece GRP or PE-Tanks is the preferred choice.

Underground GRP Tanks are most commonly used for Rainwater Harvesting and can be supplied suitable for installation with either a pea gravel or concrete backfill. The site situation should be discussed at an early stage to assist in product selection, thus ensuring the most cost effective method of water storage is employed.

Aqua-Control units

Compact booster pump set with integrated mains water back-up and controls The Aqua Control units have been developed to ensure a compact, easy to install product that can accommodates all necessary features of a modern rainwater / greywater control unit. They are purpose designed for the application to ensure integrated and external components will work as one.

Operation

The Aqua-Controls are fully equipped control units with integrated break tank, booster pump set and electronic control. The control unit monitors the water level in the rainwater tank as well as in the mains back up break tank. The selfpriming booster pump set supplies the water directly to the applications. In case of rain- or greywater shortage or manual setting, the Aqua-Control feeds mains water automatically and on demand, via an AA-type air gap, into the intermediate tank (in compliance with BS 8515 / BS 8525). As an automatic maintenance feature the solenoid valve of the mains water back-up system is regularly opened. If mains water has not been used for a certain time period the unit will flush the mains water pipe and thereby avoid stagnation. Preset standard settings can be adjusted to meet project specific needs. The units have a manual over-ride for maintenance and automatic switch over in case of supply pump failure from storage tank.

AC 5000 supplying xxx WCs

Pre-wired & fitted in a single, compact, steel housing Installation time & cost is reduced and the responsibility (warranty) to assemble the unit is taken away from the installer. The compact design will greatly reduce space requirement within the plant room. All connections are labeled for easy installation Booster pumps All units will be supplied with at least two duty/assist stainless steel multi stage pumps. Single pump failure will automatically operate the other pump to provide continuity of service and will operate alarm system to communicate the pump loss to the operator via BMS. PERCS The Pump Energy Reduction Control System not only reduces the energy for the pumping the non-potable water to its applications by using the used energy from supply to boost the water.

Unison HQ, London

Volt free contact for BMS connection The unit is pre-wired for connection to the client’s Building Management System and will provide a common fault signal which can then be interpreted on the unit’s visual display

Advanced BMS via protocols The unit can communicate alarms via pre-wired connection to external building management systems. It will inform about alarm status and pinpoint specific faults. The following protocols can be used Ethernet, CanOpen and Profibus. Education/Corporate Panel connectable Pre-wired for quick and simple connection to the optional visual display panel. Unit will communicate tank water level, mains water and rainwater consumption and would be used for Educational or Corporate display to promote the building’s environmental credentials. Pipe burst alarm or leakage alarm function Unit will detect a major leakage / pipe burst in the pressure pipe serving the serviced appliances. In the event of pipe burst detection, the system will stop water supply to avoid potential flooding and consumption of water. This would then be signaled as an alarm status if connected to a BMS Mains water back-up fault alarm Unit will detect a fault in the mains water back up supply and communicate the problem by alarm www.aqua-lity.co.uk

Remote monitoring facility Unit can be remotely monitored and will provide status / operational information, water consumption figures and the need for required maintenance thus minimizing the need to visit the system personally to check status. UV disinfection ECO-Synchronizer (patented) Unit will operate an optional UV Disinfection System in a way that will reduce run time and therefore significantly reduce energy consumption. The operation will reduce the need for consumable component replacement / maintenance and will greatly increase the life span of the Disinfection System Anti Stagnation control (programmable) Potential for stagnation of the incoming mains water supply due to infrequent use is eliminated by using the project programmable Anti Stagnation flush facility. Automatic water drain down system Unit can drain down tank on demand or automatically due to set schedule. This will enable easy maintenance on tanks or ensure water quality as required in the BS 8525 for greywater recycling systems. Function will only work in conjunction with “drain down package” (available as accessory). Dual supply tank control (basic and advanced) Unit can operate two independent rainwater holding tanks and will select water from tank holding the largest volume. The basic version will only transfer water to the second tank. The advanced version will allow the unit to decide from what tank to draw the water from first, dependant on water level. TESCO Supermarket, Berwick

Data read out function Operational information can be downloaded to external device Water consumption indication Unit can display the amount of rainwater and mains water being used to allow for performance measurment of the system. This option is mandatory with the choice of an “education panel” and water meters (available as accessory).

Greywater Recycling Introduction Water, or the lack of water, is becoming an ever increasing issue in the UK and needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency. Climate change, over extraction of water resources and population growth are largely to blame for the current and future areas of water stress in the UK. Indeed, we are seeing an increasing use of Hosepipe Bans being implemented by a number of Water Companies in the UK as part of the measures to combat this very real problem. We have a plentiful supply of water that could be used - from the roofs Great benefits with little effort: of our buildings or the waste from  Saving mains water and sewage charges our baths and showers  Mains water savings independent of the weather Why not make use of them?  Quick financial returns compared to other renewable technologies  Long storage periods of treated water  Combinable with rainwater harvesting  Little space requirements due to compact systems  Adoptable to every type of building due to modular based above or below ground systems  No use of chemicals  Enhanced Capital Allowance applicable via Water Technology List.  Complies to BREAAM, LEED, CFSH requirements

Best water quality due to most modern BioMembrane Technology The chemical free treatment process is using the latest technology and safest water treatment method for greywater recycling: Bio-Membrane-Technology (BMT). The membrane has a 38nm filter pore size. Every Membrane pore is 2.500 times finer than the human hair and therefore creates an impassable barrier for every particle and even bacteria. After treatment the water is available again as clean, clear, odorless and germfree non-potable water. The treated greywater complies with:  British Standard BS8525-1:2010  European Bathing Water Regulation 2006/7/EG

Operation

The greywater is filtered/treated in three controlled stages in the Aqua-Recycling-Control (ARC) system. First the water passes a coarse filtration stage in order to separate larger dirt particles (hair etc). Then, the water enters the aerobic treatment buffer tank. Here, the incoming water is collected and aerated. Next, in the membrane tank the water is passes Low running cost and simple maintenance: through the BMT-Membrane and is lifted to the clear water storage tank. Below ground greywater recycling

No basement or plant room available‌no problem If there is no space within the building, the greywater recycling system can be installed underground. The different treatment processes stages, mirroring the above ground system, are carried out in either separate tanks or by using structural baffles in a single tank. Generally the control as well as the compressor units would be installed in a plant room. In case there is no plant room available these components can be housed in a weather proof housing/kiosk.

Waterproof cabinet for outdoor system

Tank design for large outdoor greywater recycling system with rainwater add-on

Combined systems

Why not use both sources – greywater and rainwater? Greywater can be limited especially when looking at offices or other building types that do not include showers. All buildings will have some kind of roof which might not have been sufficient for rainwater harvesting but in combination with greywater becomes a viable option. Combining these systems also has the advantage that whenever the clear water storage tank is full, due to sufficient rain, the greywater recycling system stops treating any further greywater. This will not only reduce energy demand but also minimises maintenance for the greywater recycling system. The add-on costs are minimal. Only a rainwater filter and an enlarged clear water storage tank are needed to go from a greywater only system to a combined greywater & rainwater system.

Operation

The Aqua-Control is a fully equipped control unit with integrated break tank, double booster pump set and electronic control. The control unit monitors the water level in the greywater tank as well as in the mains back up break tank. The self-priming double booster pump set supplies the water directly to the applications. In case of greywater shortage or manual setting, the Aqua-Control feeds mains water automatically and according to demand into the intermediate tank (in compliance with BS 8515 / BS 8525 / WRAS). As an automatic maintenance feature the solenoid valve of the mains water back-up system is regularly opened. If mains water has not been used for a certain time period the unit will flush the mains water pipe and thereby avoid stagnation. Preset standard settings can be adjusted to meet project specific needs.
