About IPSF APRO

The International Pharmaceutical Students Federation (IPSF) represents around 350,000 pharmacy students and recent graduates in 84 countries worldwide. IPSF is a nongovernmental, non-political, and non-religious organisation and is the leading international advocacy organisation of pharmacy students promoting improved public health thought provision of information, education, networking, and a range of publication and professional activities. The Asia Pacific Regional Office (APRO) represents over 30,000 pharmacy students in the Asia Pacific region and is a functional extension of the IPSF Executive, conformed and structured by elected pharmacy students from IPSF member countries. The mission of the Asia Pacific Regional Office is to advance and support the aims and objectives of the Federation at the Asia Pacific level.

Major Highlights

Major Hightlights

APRO has taken a step back and looked into the key areas of improvement throughout the year 2011-2012. Throughout various meetings and discussions amongst the RWG, each of the roles within RWG have been clarified and areas of ambiguity cleared. Hopefully by introducing these clearer roles, APRO will be able to be pioneers to various events of IPSF. Like every year we have put hopes of implementing our Pharmacy Profession Awareness Campaign (PPAC) to all associations. I was quite excited to hear many associations have taken up the idea and conducted a PPAC week. It is of great aspiration that this be adopted in the future once the students become a pharmacist. The importance of PPAC is to empower the pharmacy profession in ensuring the public is aware of the role of pharmacists especially in the Asia-Pacific region.

There have been many achievements throughout 2011 and 2012: a face-to-face meeting conducted with the APPS Reception Committee, representation at various events such as LIT and Pharweek as well as attending IPSF Congress. Although many of us have been busy, we have endeavoured to meet the expectation of our members. In retrospect, I had hoped that APRO RWG would be able to represent and visit other associations throughout the region however financial restraints were a big limitation.

Many associations are growing in activities such as KNAPS holding its first national congress and NUSPS holding an allied health screening. Other organisations such as NAPSA, APS-Japan and MyPSA continue to develop and advance their activities. ISMAFARSI and all other ‘members in associations’ continually show their enthusiasm for the profession through their organisation of campaigns and world health day, which as a result provide APRO with a beacon upon which many associations can look to.

The APRO website has finally been completed with a new professional look and ‘updates’ section. Past APRO newsletters will be available to be viewed and information on future APPS will be updated on a regular basis. In the future we hope that the connections and contributions that we make today will be helpful for future students.

Chairperson Report I hereby submit the report of the Chairperson of APRO to the Regional Meeting held at the 11th Asia Pacific Pharmaceutical Symposium. In this report I have incorporated a summary of what i have done so far in this year Official Duties At the time of submitting this report two online Executive meetings have been attended. 11th Asia Pacific Pharmaceutical Symposium The APRO-RWG has once again worked closely with the 2012 APPS Reception Committee (RC). Through online meetings and submission of regular reports the activities of APPS have been adjusted hopefully to fit the expectations of the participants. A face-to-face meeting was successfully organised between APPS RC and APRO RWG in February. Online Meeting RWG Meetings Several APRO-RWG meetings were held this term to ensure RWG met their aims and objectives for their term. The online meetings provided a platform for various opinions and issues to be presented as well ensured regular communication occurred within the team. Six meetings were scheduled for the APRO term, however only four were conducted. CP Meetings Two successful online meetings were held for CPs of APRO, where in which four were initially scheduled. Organising a time and date for such meetings has always been a difficult task, however this issues must be looked into as it is essential that all CPs throughout APRO are active and read emails. APRO Newsletter Three APRO newsletters were completed throughout the term. These were disseminated via emails to CP and promoted through social media such as Facebook and twitter. A key section on health education was unable to be implemented in the APRO newsletters, as more help is needed to write the articles. Hopefully, this section may be included in future newsletters Roles and Responsibilities The roles and responsibilities of each RWG portfolio were the main concerns throughout the term. By creating a better understanding of the role each RWG played in APRO allowed them to fulfil their roles. However a key issue remains unresolved, which is the role of the subcommittees that work under Regional Projects Officer and Regional Relations Officer. Hopefully, the next committee of APRO will be able to resolve these issues. APRO Project – Pharmacy Profession Awareness Campaign (PPAC) Week Many APRO organisations have successfully conducted PPAC Week; as such I would like to congratulate them on behalf of APRO. Throughout the term, APRO has discussed ways to improving the annual project. Currently APRO is looking into a competition based project where each association will show case how they went about conducting the project. After showcasing their project a winner will be selected on how effective and receptive their campaign was to the public. apro.ipsf.org

Social Media • The APRO website has undergone a significant change to have a more professional outlook. The APRO website will be promoted at APPS and will hopefully receive more visits next term. • APRO is constantly updating the Facebook page, however better promotion at APPS 2012 will hopefully increase subscribers. • Similarly is seen on Twitter where APRO hopes to increase subscribers. Other administrative tasks An APRO calendar was created and distributed amongst the IPSF Executives and RWG. The APRO calendar provided a timeline of deadlines and key dates for meetings and newsletters. Closing Remark It has been quite an amazing year working with extraordinary people throughout the Asia Pacific region. Communication throughout the Asia Pacific will hopefully improve. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the APRO RWG of 2011-2012. Our time together through thick and thin have been most enjoyable and you have taught me a lot of lessons. Secretary Report I hereby submit the report of the Secretary of APRO to the Regional Meeting held at the 11th Asia Pacific Pharmaceutical Symposium. In this report I have incorporated a summary of what i have done so far in this year The Secretary’s key duties involved administrative tasks of the APRO-RWG, including distributing agendas, noting official minutes of meetings and working effectively with the Regional Working Group (RWG) members and the Contact Persons (CPs) of APRO. The secretary ensures that all necessary tasks are completed and deadlines are met in an efficient manner. Treasury APRO budges are documented and presented at the annual APPS for members to discuss. Documentation The secretary ensures that all important documents are retained and made available when required. These documents are passed to the succeeding secretary in the form of an external hard-drive. Communication Communication between members is crucial in running the office. It is essential that members are able to communicate effectively with each other to avoid misunderstandings and to help guide APRO. Online meetings via Skype proved to be effective, although factoring for time differences made meetings challenging. The secretary acts as a bridge between the CPs, the RWG and the IPSF so it is important that the secretary checks the official email regularly in order to answer and forward emails on to the relevant officer/s. Editing My term in this position saw myself and Exaudi Ebennezer, the Internal Coordinator and Communications Officer work collaborateively in editting all newsletters and reports submitted to APRO. A well-developed and firm understanding of the English language is an essential requirement as secretary because language difficulties can lead to misunderstandings. Conclusion I would like to thank Geoff Chai, who has always been professional and cool regardless of the situation, who has never lost his patience with me and has always been available in guiding both myself and the RWG when plans got distracted or when challenges arose. To the amazing RWG friends; you have been an inspiration and it has been a pleasure working with you throughout this term. Initially, I stumbled my way into this position and although I was apprehensive, those fears have now disappeared and it has left me with a stronger sense of confidence and responsibility. APRO is a wonderful opportunity for pharmacy students to develop strong bonds and to experience new skills. I strongly recommend for all pharmacy students to become members of APRO, and although I originally found being secretary daunting, I am dreading the time when I would have to pass this fantastic role to my successor. 2011-2012 APRO RWG ‌ you have been absolutely superb and thank you for a wonderful term. ICCO Report

Regional Relations Officer Report I hereby submit the report of the Regional Relations Officer of APRO to the Regional Meeting held at the 11th Asia Pacific Pharmaceutical Symposium. In this report I have incorporated a summary of what i have done so far in this year Non-member Countries CAMBODIA Contact Person: Chhuon Sophea There are four universities in Cambodia with pharmacy schools. There is only one pharmacy students’ association. Keen interest was shown by the CP to establish a relationship with IPSF however the association still lacks an established association with ground rules and financial support from relevant institutions or parties. Plan: Continue the connection with Cambodia and aid them whenever possible in strengthening their pharmacy students’ association. VIETNAM Contact Person: Hien Luong Nguyen There are two pharmacy schools in Vietnam. However, keeping in regular contact with the CP was unsuccessful. Plan: To include a second or third contact person so as to establish a strong connection with them. PHILIPPINES Contact Person: Kath Plantilla The pharmacy students’ association is Federal of the Junior Chapters of the Philippines Pharmacists Association (FJCPPhA) established more than 60 years ago. There are 48 pharmacy schools in Philippines. However, FJCPPhA does not represent all the pharmacy schools. Each pharmacy school has their own pharmacy council. The CP was planning to apply for membership last year but unfortunately the application did not proceed due to financial issues. Plan: Guide FJCPPhA through the application process again. FIJI There has been no respond from Fiji National University, College of Medicine and Health Science despite numerous emails being sent to them. Plan: Continue the follow up process by the next Regional Relations Officer. SRI LANKA Contact Person: Nisal Nuwanka The contact made with the contact person of Sri Lanka is still in the early phase. Plan: Continue the follow up process by the next Regional Relations Officer.

CHINA Contact Person: Liu Feng There are over 500 pharmacy schools in mainland of China with over 50 thousand students being enrolled each year. Most of the pharmacy schools have their own associations, and it is being called Students’ Union. However, there is no pharmacy students’ association representing the majority of the pharmacy schools in China. Plan: Continue the follow up process by the next Regional Relations Officer. NEW ZEALAND Contact Person: Zara Brouwers New Zealand’s application for Membership in IPSF went through the 57th IPSF World Congress General Assembly (GA) on August 4th & 5th, 2011 during the congress in Hat Yai, Thailand. New Zealand is now a Members in Association (MIA). Plan: Continue the follow up process by the next Regional Relations Officer and aim to guide them in the process of Full Member application. Regional Project Officer Report I hereby submit the report of the Regional Project Officer of APRO to the Regional Meeting held at the 11th Asia Pacific Pharmaceutical Symposium. In this report I have incorporated a summary of what i have done so far in this year Focus Project : Pharmacy Profession Awareness Campaign (PPAC) Week Many APRO organisations have successfully conducted PPAC Week with various themes. But some organisations could not conduct PPAC Week due to various reasons including financial difficulties, internal organisation issues and some have not initially planned it for their organisation. Throughout the term, APRO has discussed ways in improving the annual project. Currently APRO is looking into a competition based project where each association will showcase how they went about conducting the project. After showcasing their project, a winner will be selected based on how effective and receptive their campaign is to the public. The campaign can be done by making a booth at public place, giving lectures to highschool students, and conducting activities in rural places or villages. However, since not all of the APRO members ran PPAC, this competition was unable to be carried out this term. The competition based project will be handed-over for the next term. There are some other competition suggestions for the annual project including an article/essay competition or flashmob competition. The main idea is still the same; that is to increase people’s awareness about the pharmacy profession. Online Meeting RWG Meetings Several APRO-RWG meetings were held to ensure the RWG met their aims and objectives for their term. Four meetings were conducted. As a family, APRO-RWG worked together to ensure every program ran smoothly including APPS and Projects. Campaigns Subcommittee members were responsible in contacting each campaign coordinator to help promote the campaign in APRO. But to prevent the CPs from getting a lot of emails, only the coordinators of each campaign distributed the campaign kits, guidelines, or handbooks. The subcommittee members worked to ensure that specific campaigns ran smoothly and to collect the activity reports. Green Lung Communication between APRO and Green Lung was done by the RPO and subcommittee members. APRO and Green Lung helped each other facilitate anti-tobacco awareness. A Green Lung workshop will be done at the APPS to promote Green Lung and IPSF Projects on Tobacco Control to achieve greater awareness. Project Calendar An APRO Project calendar was planned to provide a timeline of deadlines and key dates for projects, meetings and newsletters so that APRO remained vigilant and continually monitored how each association was going. However not all CPs agreed upon this. APRO decided to discuss this at the APPS CP Workshop to collect the data of what projects they were thinking and when the associations will run IPSF project for the next term. Closing Remark It has been an amazing year working as the APRO RPO and this has been one of the best things in my life. Being that my mandate has reached its end and a new cycle begins. I know that during my term, I did not deliver my best. I still need to learn a lot. I made mistakes, and I’m really sorry for that. It was truly pleasure for me to be a part of IPSF APRO and get to work with a wondurful RWG Family. It was a privilege and a great opportunity that I’m very grateful for that. Report of Chairperson of the Reception Committee of 11th Asia Pacific Pharmaceutical Symposium I hereby submit the report of the Chairperson of the Reception Committee of 11th Asia Pacific Pharmaceutical Symposium to the Regional Meeting held at the 11th Asia Pacific Pharmaceutical Symposium. In this report I have incorporated a summary of what i have done so far in this year Introduction The 11th Asia Pacific Pharmaceutical Symposium (APPS) will be held in Taipei, Taiwan. The organiser of this event is PSA-Taiwan , organized by seven pharmacy schools, National Taiwan University (NTU), Taipei Medical University (TMU), National Defense Medical Center (NDMC), China Medical University (CMU), Chia-Nan University of Pharmacy & Science (CNU), Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU), and Tajen University (TJU), representing over 4000 pharmaceutical students and was recognised by Ministry of Interior Affairs (MOI) as a legal organisation. The main university is Taipei Medical University (TMU), and the theme of the 11th APPS is “Drug safety and pharmaceutical responsibility education”. To be the host of 11th APPS 2012, the representatives of PSA-Taiwan, Cathy and I (Henry) went to the 9th APPS in Korea 2010 , and fortunately were accepted. I think I will never forget the day in Korea. It was so exciting and l have practiced english every day since then. After returning to Taiwan, the first thing we did was build a committee. We made a team consisting of nearly 100 students as the Reception Committee from across all universities in Taiwan. We also had 10 lecturers as the Steering Committee, and two Vice- Chairpersons to help me do a lot of tasks. Basic information on the Congress Date : 3th July – 9th July 2012 Accommodation : Holiday Inn Venue : TMU campus , NTU campus, Holiday Inn We booked many rooms based on the estimation that the maximal number of participants was 300. Since we were working within a strict budget, we decided to use quadro rooms. This meant each room accommodated for 4 participants. The symposiums, workshops, oral presentations, poster exhibition, International Night and regional meetings will take place at TMU campus ,NTU campus, and Holiday Inn We have 5 parallel symposiums; The new version of community pharmacy services: home delivery service of chronic illness prescriptions , role of pharmacists in long-term care and telecare cooperation, “drug relief system—talking about the Taiwanese experience”, Drug-drug, drug-herb and drug-food interaction and counterfeited drug identification techniques and prevention methods. We wanted all participants to be able to choose which topic they wanted to listen to, and after each lecture, discussion time was set aside. We rented 8 buses with each bus seating 43 people. The transportation will be provided for the participants during the APPS except for free night or other transportation than scheduled in the symposium. We also will provide pick up transport services from the airport . For touring Taiwan, we will visit the National Palace Museum and Pinghsi at day 3 (Explore Taiwan). The campaign will be held in Xinyi District and we worked cooperatively with the Department of Health, Taipei City and Taipei Pharmacists Association.

Symposiums There are six topics of symposium that will be presented on day 1 and day 5 of APPS 2012. They are: 1. Drug safety and Pharmaceutical Responsibility Education 2. The responsibilities of pharmacists to society 3. Medication Safety Beyond Hospital: The Role Of Pharmacists 4. How to build a safer drug usage environment for the public? 5. Asia Pacific Pharmacy Education 6. How to make pharmacy education more practical to meet the social needs? There are five topics of Parallel Symposium that will be presented on day 2 of APPS 2012. They are: 1. The new version of community pharmacy services: home delivery service of chronic illness prescriptions 2. Role of Pharmacists in Long-term care and Telecare cooperation 3. Drug Relief System—Talking about Taiwanese experience 4. Drug-drug, drug-herb and drug-food interaction 5. Counterfeited drug identification techniques and prevention methods NGO Visiting Losheng Sanatorium Losheng Sanatorium was built in 1929 , as an institution of mandatory quarantine as well as life-long imprisonment for thousands of leprosy patients Harmony Home The goal of Harmony Home is to provide shelter, care, education, and support for the growing HIV/AIDS population in Taiwan, and now this service has extended to China. They also aim in spreading around AIDS knowledge, including the current status of AIDS and its relation with drugs, by holding approixmately 150 forums in schools, prisons and other organizations annually. We hope you can realize their efforts further after having a visit to Harmony Home! Sunshine Foundation Sunshine Foundation is a nonprofit organization established in 1981 in Taiwan, and the name of Sunshine Foundation was derived from the title of a book called,” People Who Shun the Sunshine” written by a burn survivor. Sunshine Foundation always aims to uphold the values of humanity in their work, and have earned wide public recognition over the past two decades. Competitions The participants were also encouraged to compete in four competitions: pharmacy contest, poster exhibition, Patient Counselling Event (PCE) and Clinical Skills Event (CSE). The pharmacy contest was “Increasing pharmacy awareness in the Asia Pacific - creative ideas to raise pharmacy awareness”. The poster exhibition will be hosted on the 2nd day of APPS. Regarding PCE, two rounds for Beginngers and Advanced participants will be held with the preliminary round (closed door PCE) on day 2 and final round on day 5. Participants To date, there are 286 participants registered for 11th APPS 2012 .

Promotion We aimed to promote during International Night in 10th APPS Yogyakarta, Indonesia We promoted at the 57th IPSF Congress in Haiyay, Thailand during “ IPSF is at your corner” in 57th IPS FB: www.facebook.com/apps2012 Website: www.apps2012-taiwan.org  Final Remarks Being the host of 11th APPS 2012 is the first experience of me to hold an international event. It was a difficult challenge for me. We hope that we will host an excellent APPS for every Asian pharmaceutical student and that they will never forget what happens at APPS 2012 in Taiwan. Maybe our English is not good enough but we will show our tremendous passion and hospitable nature to all participants. A big thanks to the Reception Committee of 11th APPS 2012 for working hard with me during these two years despite their ultra busy days as students. I would like to especially thank the 16 executives who are currently in their graduation year (they have to take their licenses test 10 days after APPS). Without you, we will not be able to host a memorable APPS 2012.

Summary of Membership Associations’ Activities Reports Full Member Annual Reports National Australian Pharmacy Students’ Association (NAPSA) President: Timothy Mizzi Vice President: Stacey Gough Contact Person: Stephen Stanton Secretary: Arron Sparkes Treasurer: Zeke Steindl Association webpage: www.napsa.org.au Introduction The National Australian Pharmacy Students’ Association (NAPSA) represents the interests of approximately 3500 members whom are undergraduate and masters students studying at seventeen universities across Australia, as well as its interns. NAPSA’s committee is made up of 4 Executives and 6 Chairs. Each chair represents an integral part of the NAPSA experience and what it offers to each individual member through the associated branches. These six chairs include: 1. Education 2. Rural & Indigenous 3. Industrial Affairs 4. IPSF 5. Publications; and 6. Pharmacy Awareness NAPSA aims to provide advocacy for undergraduate and postgraduate students, and also for intern students nation wide. All students who are members of their university branch are automatically members of NAPSA and IPSF. They experience benefits ranging from educational courses to networking with their peers at the annual congress. Content The 2011/2012-­year for NAPSA has included numerous events that have become locked into our yearly regime with also a few new promising endeavors. The always popular and very important Vampire Cup was held from August 29th – October 7th. There was a very impressive response with 253 registered blood donations reaching out to help over 750 Australians! This displayed a 40% increase in numbers from last year, illustrating promising signs for future years of growth. NAPSA’s Pharmacy Awareness Chair, Julia Hruz, has also developed two new Pharmacy Awareness campaigns that have begun testing throughout the 2011/12 year. Both are aimed at school students – one at primary and the other at secondary schools. They both help highlight the dynamic role of the pharmacist within the community. Our Education Chair, Madeline Orange, ran numerous educational courses throughout the year, and around the country with a few new initiatives still in development. These include an over-the-­counter medicines education course and hopefully a national diabetes education program.

NAPSA has also integrated quite a substantial focus on raising awareness of rural and indigenous health throughout 2011 and 2012. With communication between all pharmacy schools regarding the inclusion of rural medicine curriculum in their respective syllabuses and an ever-­growing understanding of how students perceive rural health – the Rural and Indigenous Chair, Ellen Pedler, has continued the extensive growth her position has entailed over the last few years. In keeping with the tune, NAPSA held it’s annual congress in a rural setting for the first time ever. A large number of students from all over the country descended on the town of Wagga Wagga for a week of education, socialising and friendly inter-­branch competition. It was a heated affair as it is held every year in summer and the country can get rather hot. This did not seem to even register with the delegates as the program was welcomed by all and sadly missed once it concluded. 2011/2012 also marks the year in which NAPSA will endeavor to change its quarterly released newsletter from hard print to an online ‘e-­‐version’. This really raises the bar for NAPSA as it can reach all it’s members with an easier medium but also helps in reducing it’s carbon footprint from publications. Bethany Cooper has been pivotal in the transition of this alteration as she comes into her 2nd year as NAPSA’s publications chair. Two new pharmacy schools were affiliated to NAPSA as they have just recently opened up within Australia. They presented their application at our annual General Meeting (AGM) at the start of the term and took to NAPSA like a fish to water. Both have shown great enthusiasm with every challenge thrown their way and portray a strong promise for the future growth within their respective schools. The remainder of the 2012 year looks to wrap up quite a productive year, with the promise of a number of exchange students through the IPSF Student Exchange Program, results of the Charity Cup held between each branch in the third quarter and of course the important upcoming changeover in the committee. Plan First and foremost, NAPSA’s upcoming year will hope to sustain the extensive growth and involvement within the industry that the past few years have displayed. A dynamic industry has definitely called for NAPSA to find its feet and prepare for anything that the future may hold. Through this, we hope to facilitate our current progress and continue to provide our members with every opportunity available. Primarily at this stage, the handover process is imperative to prevent a smooth transition and not allow for a backwards step. Development of chair manuals has begun being processed by our Vice President, Stacey Gough, and will essentially give the next chair a head start of their former so that they can utilize numerous years of experience before them and simply continue growing.

Manzur Sharif Introduction PSSB was formed in 2006 and joined IPSF the same year. There are 16 pharmacy schools in Bangladesh and PSSB represents 9 of these. The Annual General Meeting is called the “General Body Meeting (GBM)” and usually happens during the second week of January. The election for PSSB Executives (including CP, SEO) happens during GBM in January. Content 1.Educational Events Seminar on Development of Hospital Pharmacy in Bangladesh: PSSB is going to organize a seminar on the development of hospital pharmacy in Bangladesh, to be held on 22nd November 2012 at Winter Garden, Dhaka Sheraton Hotel. This seminar is organized to create interest amongst the pharmacists working in hospital and those choosing hospital pharmacy as a profession rather than working in industry. The graduate pharmacists are invited to attend the seminar. 2. Humanitarian Activities: Winter Relief Program of PSSB Every year poor and rural people die from extreme cold during winter. This year members of PSSB started a winter relief campaign as part of its humanitarian activities. This aimed to provide warm clothes, blankets and medicines for common cold and fever. 3. Other activities: #PSSB Year Ending Reunion Program Different units of PSSB are going to organize reunion programs for the members of their units. This year it will be named Post Eid-ul Azha Reunion Program. #PSSB Cultural festival: PSSB members are always wanting to do something different besides their noble profession pharmacy. Keeping the trend of other years, PSSB members are going to make a short film this year. Of particular interest, this film will be written, directed, acted and edited by a group of pharmacy students. 4. IPSF events: #Pharmacy Profession awareness campaign (PPAC): This year PSSB will hold PPAC. The details will be published very soon. #PCE: PSSB plans to organize PCE in the month of July after the finishing of the exams. #World Heart Day: As a continuation of previous years PSSB celebrated World Heart Day. #TB Campaign: PSSB organized a TB campaign in collaboration with International Center for Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Research (ICPHR) #World Diabetes Day: IPSF | Asian Pacific Regional Office

5. National and International events #International Mother Language day: International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by UNESCO’s General Conference in November 1999. The International Day has been observed every year since February 2000 to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. International Mother Language Day originated as the international recognition of Language Movement Day, which has been commemorated in Bangladesh since 1952, when a number of Bangladeshi university students were killed by the East Pakistan police and army in Dhaka. #National Victory day: To commemorate the surrender of Pakistani forces in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, December 16 was declared as the victory day. As a national organization PSSB is going to celebrate the National Victory Day on 16th December 2012. #National Independence Day: March 26 is a National Day of Bangladesh. This day is celebrated as Independence Day in Bangladesh. This commemorates the declaration of independence and the start of Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. The day is a national holiday in Bangladesh, and is celebrated with parades, and paying of respect at Jatiyo Smriti Soudho, the national memorial at Savar near Dhaka. As a national organization PSSB is going to celebrate the National Independence Day. 6. “LIFE SCIENCE TALENT HUNT” (This is the one I am really excited about!!!) Last but not least, PSSB in collaboration with other student organizations are going to organize the first ever “LIFE SCIENCE TALENT HUNT” competition in the history of Bangladesh. This competition aims to promote science and create opportunities for life science students to be creative, innovative and realistic. In this regard, PSSB is going to open a new window for the students of life science to share their innovative ideas and creative thinking with others. Students from different disciplines of life science like Pharmacy, Zoology, Botany, Microbiology, Biochemistry, MBBS, Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology, Agriculture, Fisheries, Nutrition & Food Science, Psychology and Soil Science of different universities can take part in this competition. 1.National LiT and Pre-General Assembly January 2012 was quite a heavy month for ISMAFARSI because we were organizing two main events in our term. First one is the national Leaders In Training (LiT) held in Makassar, South Sulawesi, hosted by Universitas Hasanuddin. The event ran from 20-23 January 2012. 61 participants from all around Indonesia were selected after passing several selection levels, from local and regional. Most of the participants had previously attended since 2009 because LiT is the biggest opportunity to learn more about ISMAFARSI and is a chance to look for our successors. LiT began with an outstanding presentation about “Scientific Leadership” and opened our eyes and minds about leadership. The event continued with lessons, games and focus group discussions from several speakers including the Executives. Pre-General Assembly This event was held after the national LiT and we moved our accomodation to another place. A total of 158 participants attended this event. We discussed the future of our beloved ISMAFARSI. Everyone was freely encouraged to give inputs and comments before opening to discuss it. The aim of this event was to ensure that future leaders will listen to the concerns of its members . Also, we discussed the requirements for future President of ISMAFARSI. We also had two main activities, being the national seminar and national campaign. The theme for national seminar was “From Marine to Pharmacy”. South Sulawesi is rich with natural resources from sea, with 80% of the world’s natural ocean resourccoming from Eastern Indonesia. As future pharmacists, we have to know how we can use these resources for medicinal purposes. For the campaign, the theme was “Herbal Medicines for Our Health”. Every participant distributed leaflets about the role of herbal medicines for conditions such as cancer and nfectious diseases and offered counselling to the public to showcase our skills as pharmacists-in-training. On the other hand, the welcome party revealed a different side to us. We performed dances from our original regions with our traditional costumes. There are eight regions in ISMAFARSI, so we had fun learning about the different backgrounds. We also visited the Bantimurung Waterfall, a national tourist place in Makassar, where we were actively involved in extreme sports, caving, the flying fox and enjoyed the beatiful scene of Indonesia.

2. World Cancer Day 2012 This year was the first time ISMAFARSI celebrated World Cancer Day. In Bali, our friends from faculty of Pharmacy collaborated with the medicine students from Udayana University and made an open campaign, spreading leaflets and materials to increase the awareness of World Cancer Day. In certain areas of Java, our friends celebrated with an online campaign.

3.Upcoming Events There are some events which will be held from the end of March until June, before our national meeting and general assembly in July 2012. On 24 March, we celebrated World TB Day, followed by World Health Day on 7 April. We held a seminar about antimicrobail resitance on 5 May, which was held collaboratively with the Center for Indonesian Medical Students’ Activities (CIMSA), a national organization for medical students in Indonesia. A week after that, we opened a forum about tobacco control where we planned to make an official regulation about anti-smoking area’s. Not only that, there are still upcoming events on a local and regional level, such as the regional meeting and leadership training at local and regional levels. The Association of Pharmaceutical Student’s Japan (APS-Japan) Vampire Campaign (Blood donation campaign) Vampire Campaign was held to promote the donation of blood by pharmaceutical students and ordinary people and to rescue many people by the donation of blood. About 20 students dressed up like vampires. As a result of this campaign, the number of blood donations were tripled. Home healthcare Seminar This forum was aimed at students interested in home medical care. In recent years, with the increasing demand of pharmacist’s to cover homecare services, this new role has now been introduced to grade 6 students. 20 community pharmacies who are engaged in homecare and a famous doctor who manages a pharmacy were invited. It was very helpful for students to know about home care. Team Medical Study Meeting This study meeting is held twice a year with International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA –Japan) It is aimed to develop good relationships between medical professionals. We discussed topics including current issues in the medical field and the role of health professionals. Pharmaceutical Japan Tour This tour was an opportunity for Japanese and foreign pharmaceutical students to learn about Japanese culture and the role of pharmacy in Japan . We held this tour from 13th-18th February. 24 foreign students from Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia, Czech Republic, Tunisia, and Malaysia participated joined 60 Japanese participants and staff members. The program included sightseeing and visiting Tokyo University research laboratory, hospital and Kampo museum. Patient Counseling Event Marathon Patient Counseling Event was held to give our junior undergraduates (Year1 ~2) a better understanding of how pharmacists go about counseling their patients. Currently working pharmacists were invited to talk about what they did daily after which, a patient counseling role-play was carried out, with students given a chance to counsel a pseudo-patient. Chinese herbal medicine cooking lesson As a collaborative event with the Department of Nutrition students, chinese herbal medicine cooking lessons was held. In Japan, chinese herbal medicine is attracting attention as a good method for self-medicating. Pharmaceutical students were taught how to cook chinese herbal medicine foods and taught about their effect on health. The 13th Annual Congress of APS-Japan The 13th annual congress was held 13th-15th March. Approximately 260 pharmaceutical students (including 30 staff members) gathered. A total of 20 workshops was organised during the day, and every night a social event was held. APS-Japan organizers designed this congress to look like IPSF world congress. We wanted to make Japanese students feel the IPSF spirit. This was the first time for us to hold a national congress for three days, but we believe it was a huge success.

Xperience Pharmacy Camp is a 3 day 2 night camp organized annually for pre-university students. This was to give pre-university students a clearer picture of what they will be going through in our NUS Pharmacy course and to generate a better understanding of the pharmacy profession by exposing them to the various aspects of pharmacy studies. This is done via various activities such as interactive games and compounding/dispensing activities in labs.

Pharmacy Profession Awareness Fieldtrips and Attachments An entirely new initiative started by the executive committee of NUSPS this academic year, this program aims to equip our very own first year students on the various routes, advancements and career opportunities opened to them as they continue with their pharmacy education. Such includes attachments to hospitals to increase awareness of the pharmacists’ role in the clinical setting and to expose first year students to hospital pharmacy, develop further insight of the role of a hospital pharmacist as well as appreciate the application of classroom knowledge to real life situations. Also included are fieldtrips to regulatory and marketing companies to raise awareness of the role of pharmacists in drug regulation and distributorship, and clinical research facilities field trips to raise awareness regarding the types of research opportunities involving pharmacists.

Patient Counseling Symposium (PCS) Event A revamp of the Patient Counseling Event, this new initiative was done to increase the scale and outreach of the patient counseling event. Apart from involving junior undergraduates from year 1 and 2 as with precedence, the PCS event this time round roped in the seniors too, as well as pharmacists from the different sectors of Singapore from community, retail, marketing all the way to regulation and policy making. The event was conducted in an informal bar-table dialogue sharing style where the different pharmacists shared their daily routine to each small group of students who approached their tables. Highlight of the event was the typical role-play but not limited to only pseudo-patient pharmacist counseling but also included other scenarios like the different regulatory bodies when it comes to drug licensing.

Know Your Medicines, Get It Right! This is a voluntary project carried out by NUSPS Essential Medicine Committee, in conjunction with several governmental agencies to provide medication reviews to assist elderly and lower income families in managing their medications used for chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension. It is conducted twice a year and slated to run for three years in several areas of Singapore. This project not only serves to ameliorate patient drug use and knowledge of medication safety through counseling sessions carried out with the help of registered pharmacists, but also increased the awareness of pharmacy practices and how pharmacists can play a part in the community when it comes to chronic disease management thereby increasing the profile of pharmacist in Singapore with the publicity assistance gotten from the governmental agencies.

Public Health Screening (PHS) 2011 An annual outdoor public health screening event organized by NUS’ Faculty of Medicine, it was inducted as an inter-professional education (IPE) initiative this time round. Inter-professional education initiatives included all the healthcare disciplines offered at National University of Singapore which includes Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing and Medicine mainly. Services offered not only include the basic parameters monitoring, but also extended to FOBT and Medication review / follow up referrals services. This PHS, NUSPS not only played a role in the setup of the event that had an outreach of more than 100,000 Singaporeans over the span of 2 days, but we were also actively involved in the entire medical review services. Pharmacists were roped into the project to offer professional medication reviews where they made recommendations to physicians on the spot or through referrals when drug usage intervention was necessary. This event was graced by the Health Minister of Singapore, Gan Kim Yong, and it certainly helped to increase the profile of pharmacists in healthcare practices.

Project Silvercare 2011 An entirely new IPE project initiated by the Department of Nursing, it was jointly put together by students from the 3 main healthcare arms: Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing. This project was designed to specially target the elderly demographics in Chinatown of Singapore, after months of monitoring and discussion with relevant authorities which concluded that the elderly population in that region needed more healthcare assistance. Apart from the usual healthcare practices, the project also included non-pharmacological lessons like healthy lifestyle, healthy dieting and how to prevent falls at home by having proper furniture ergonomics. The project provided an all-round approach care, from medical to non-medical interventions, to the elderly targeted and this benefited many of them. Pharmacy students involved in this project not only provided drug safety and usage information but also had to be part of the education team to offer proper lifestyle modification information to elderly, which more often than not is the main cause for disease states in the elderly to begin with. This allowed pharmacy students who participated to understand the need for them to know more than just medications and drugs in order to provide proper care, but also allowed them an opportunity to work and interact closely to their peers in the other healthcare profession. Through this project, albeit a smaller outreach, the misinformed impression that the elderly originally had of pharmacists was corrected and further enhanced when they realised that pharmacists can provide more than just medication over the counter.

Overseas Community Involvement Project (OCIP)– Nepal Pharmacy students of NUS were also involved in an OCIP this year to Nepal to provide basic education, healthcare assistance to the natives and to build for the children a small library / reading area. The students had to source for funds before departing for the project and the outreach allowed sponsors and donors to know more about the pharmacy education of NUS and the good causes we undertake throughout the year apart from just this OCIP. This has indeed been an eventful year and we are certain that our next succeeding committee will continue to work actively to update APRO on other NUSPS initiatives. Now we have 18 Faculties as members of PSUT and the total of the students that PSUT represent are 9,182 CONTENT Over the past year, we have done so many activities which show in the list: 1.The 10th APPS 2011 at Indonisia The representatives from PSUT that joined APPS at Indonesia were from different universities and after the symposium they shared their many experiences to other pharmacy students. 2.The 57th IPSF 2011 at Thailand Last yea,r PSUT and Prince of Songkla University were the hosts of The 57th International Pharmacy Student Federation World Congress 2011 that saw pharmacy students from around the world join together, have fun, make friends and earn fabulous experiences. 3.Tobacco Awareness workshop This workshop was held during IPSF at Songkla University, Thailand .This activity showed the spirit of pharmacy student from all over the world by making a big campaign to fight the dangers of tobacco and persuade smokers to stop smoking. 4. National Pharmacy Game at Mahasarakham University It is the sport days that pharmacy students from all parts of Thailand (18 universities) come together to build a good relationship by being competitive in sport, expressing our cheer spirit, and having fun. We also aimed to hold a campaign for a public health organization in that province. Unfortunately there was flooding in that year thus many universities could not come. However we held a project to help flood victims ,so all the students became united in helping people. 5. 98 years Thai Pharmacy council This activity was set on 8th December to recall pur important history, so all Thai pharmacy students changed their profile pictures together from 7th -9th December. 6. Promoting the professional code of conduct This activity gave a chance for any pharmacy student who wanted to share their stories to promote professional code of conduct by VDO clip and many pharmacy students were interested in this contest . 7.Diabetes picture contest participation Motion: Thai university students show their power. This is a new generation of young people aware of the seriousness and threat of diabetes and are ready to fight the silent disease and control it. We also educated diabetics about correct and appropriate self-care methods in order to cope with this disease.

8. Thai Pharmacy students help flood victims Due to flooding in Thailand this year, there were plenty of victims in many provinces that needed help so PSUT and pharmacy students in Thailand collaborated together with faculties and universities to gather nuch needed medicines for them and we also manufactured Whitfield’s ointment, and citronella oil. 9. The 3rd Multidisciplinary Students Camp 2011 “Healthy delivery� was an activity that students from Medical, Dental, Pharmacy, Nursing , Medical technology, and Public Health faculties joined together in providing services such as checking their health, giving them knowledge about drugs use, chronic disease prevention, good hygiene and also alcohol and smoking cessation in the Ayudhaya province.

11. Patient Counseling Event competition for Thai pharmacy students Representatives from 18 universities competed to determine who gave the best counseling, to win first place . The winner this year was a pharmacy student from Waliaruk University. 12. PSUT Annual Congress 2011 @ Khonkaen University - During our annual congress, we elect the new generation of PSUT committee. The results of this year; - President 2012 is Mr.Pien Ploenbannakit from Mahidol University. - CP 2012 is Miss Nawarat Thinsook from Khonkaen University. - SEO 2012 is Mr.Pheeraphat Sarppreuttikun from Chulalongkorn University. We also have a monthly meeting 4 times a year to discuss and prepare for any activity which would occur at member University. 13. The 8th PSUT volunteer camp 2012 This project was the first activity organised by the new executive committee and was a continuation from the camp last year. Approximately 120 students representing 18 universities went to a rural district in Chaiyapoom province for 7 days to educate the community about traditional medicines. This year we focused on polypharmacy by providing information on the dangers of polypharmacy. The rural population were taught how to take drugs properly, how to look after their health and were taught how to make traditional medicines from local ingredients Also, we had developed a relationship between pharmacy students and the community to create a comfortable and trusting environment .

Malaysian Pharmacy Students’ Association (MyPSA) Introduction MyPSA is the abbreviation for the Malaysian Pharmacy Students’ Association. It is the national organization which reconsolidates various local pharmacy student society’s under one organization. MyPSA is also the student chapter of the Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society (MPS). Being a student oriented, non-political association, we are concerned entirely with pharmacy education and pharmacy profession, directly and indirectly. MyPSA is a leading healthcare student association in Malaysia committed in promoting public health and developing future Malaysian and worldwide healthcare leaders A variety of programs and conferences have been planned and implemented in order to strengthen pharmacy education and pharmacy profession in Malaysia, as well as relationships between pharmacy students in Malaysia. Together, we are bounded by this motto: “UNITED TOWARDS PHARMACEUTICAL EXCELLENCE” Major Initiatives of 2011/2012 1. National Gathering Of Pharmacy Students 2011 – (NoGAPS) The National Gathering of Pharmacy Students 2011 is MyPSA-Malaysia’s version of a national congress where various workshops, seminars and the general assembly are held over 5 days, from 9-13 June at University Malaya. The main focus of this programme is to instil and improve pharmacy-related knowledge and skills in our members early on. Patient Counselling Education competition was also held during the programme. 2. 3rd National Pharmacy Quiz 2011 – (Rx Quiz) The 3rd National Pharmacy Quiz was held at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) for the third time running. It was held on the 19th-20th November 2011. The objective of this project is to improve and test young pharmacy student minds; and to foster relationships of pharmacy student from various universities in the spirit of competition. This year, IIUM took the champion trophy with International Medical University (IMU) as the runner up, followed by AIMST University as second runner up. 3. National Pharmacy Sports Carnival 2012 The National Pharmacy Sports Carnival 2012 was held at IIUM on the 6th of April 2012. The objective of the program is to build a team of well-rounded young pharmacist who are not just intellectually excellent but fit and skilfull as well. A variety of sporting events such as futsal, badminton, and basketball were included in the program. 4. Meeting with Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Eisah A. Rahman, Senior Director of Pharmaceutical Services Department, Ministry of Health. The meeting was held on the 9th of February 2012 in the Malaysian Pharmaceutical Department. The MyPSA Executive officers and Mainboard were present to meet with the Senior Director of Pharmaceutical Services Department and her team. The objectives of this visit was to initiate and establish a good relationship between MyPSA, as the main national body for all pharmacy students in Malaysia, with Pharmaceutical Services Division of the Ministry of Health, to discuss and get the latest information regarding pharmacists in the governmental sector, to deliver student messages on recent issues and government policies about pharmacy students, especially those who are graduating, and to get the support from Pharmaceutical Services Division, Ministry of Health Malaysia on future projects of MyPSA. 5. MyPSA Fundraising Project – T-shirt Sales The project started with a t-shirt designing competition which was open to all members of the association with the 3 top designs printed along with 2 past designs. The objective of this project was to raise funds for future MyPSA projects and to also provide sponsorship for local associations under the umbrella of MyPSA. The profit made from this project was RM8000, which was a massive income for the association.

Election of New MyPSA Executive members – 1st October 2012 An extraordinary General Meeting was called after the previous executive members submitted their resignation. The main objective was to elect the new executive members for the year 2011 until mid 2012. Three new positions (Secretary 2, Entrepreneurship Director, Public Relations Officer) were introduced to improve the efficiency of MyPSA administration. 2. Introducing the Best Pharmacy Student and Association Awards – 28th January 2012 The president proposed a motion in the 3rd General Meeting held on 28 January 2012 to implement an award system for the best pharmacy student and local association. The objective of the initiative was to motivate youthful mind in projects outside from academics. The motion was passed. 3. Student Exchange Programme 2012 Currently, there are 13 pharmacy students who will be doing their attachments in Malaysia and MyPSa will be sending 6 students to Egypt, New Zealand and Indonesia. 4. Participation of APPS 2012, Taiwan. MyPSA will be sending over 60 delegates to the upcoming Asia-Pacific Pharmaceutical Symposium in Taiwan. 5. Membership Drive MyPSA has recruited a total of 1778 new members this year. 6. Implementation of IPSF Public Health Campaigns – In Progress MyPSA will be proposing a motion to implement IPSF Public Health Campaign s to local associations. HMF ‘Ars Praeparandi’ ITB represents over 600 members from undergraduate year to apothecary students. For more than 57 years, HMF ‘Ars Praeparandi’ ITB has facilitated its members to expand their role as a pharmacist by community service, education, publication, and networking. Content Farmadays (November 2011) On November 2011, HMF ‘AP’ ITB held their biggest event with a combination of Patient Counseling Event, health workshop and seminar, pharmaceutical exhibitions, and beauty class workshop’s. This was targeted to the overall community as well as ITB students. The beauty class workshop was sponsored by the famous cosmetic brand Body Shop® and Wardah, and was held on November 13th. Meanwhile the Patient Counseling Event was held from 19-20th November and was parallel with the health workshop and seminar. The main event was the pharmacy exhibition, which also promoted our School of Pharmacy and pharmacy profession to the communities.

Pharmacy Profession Awareness Campaign (February, 3rd-5th) The ITB Fair is held every two years and is one of the biggest events hosted by Institut Teknology Bandung and HMF ‘AP’ ITB, as one of the students’ union took part; we introduced and promoted the pharmacy profession to the community. Our main goal was to promote the two pharmacy majors in School of Pharmacy; industrial and clinical-community pharmacy through the exhibition. We were divided into two booths; the industrial pharmacy ran workshopsin making simple pharmaceutical care products such as balsam, repellants, and lip balms. On the other hand, the clinical community pharmacy offered health counselling and medication information, as well as conducting services such as BMI measurement, blood pressure and blood sugar measurements, and simple non-pharmacological counselling. apro.ipsf.org

World Tuberculosis Day (March 24th, 2012) On the March 24th, HMF ‘AP’ ITB celebrated World TB Day in many ways. We published facts about tuberculosis from the World TB Day kit through electronic publications; Facebook, Twitter, and also instant messaging. We also broadcasted a special session on campus radio during the day. We also invited 20 pharmacy students to help us make World Tuberculosis Day awareness posters. In conclusion, the electronic publications proved to be the most effective method of communication.

“Movement of Secondhand Smoke Protection” (March 2011 until present) This project has been entered its first year since implementation throughout campus. Over the past year, we have promoted campaigns, publications, and memorandums around the campus. Consequently, on May 1st Institut Teknologi Bandung was officially declared a ‘free smoking’ campus. However, our efforts are not finished yet because we aim to have all campus’ as ‘free smoking’ campsues and there is still a lot more work to be done. Pharmacy Goes to Village, Kidang Pananjung, West Java ( July 2012) This program was first initated in 1970 and is held every two years in a different village. In 2012, Kidang Pananjung Village, West Java was chosen as our project location. The pharmacy students will stay with the residents for five days, learning how to live in the village and also improving their knowledge by sharing their knowledge learnt from lectures. The main goal of this project is to improve the health of the village since there is a lack of health workers in Kidang Pananjung and to also improve the economy and education sitation of the community. We also aim to teach elementary school students how to maintain their health, by motivating them to keep clean and teaching them how to brush their teeth the correct way. Plan Our vision for 2012-2013 is to create an environment where HMF ‘AP’ ITB members are actively involved in improving communities as well as developing skills as pharmacists. Therefore, this July we will be holding ‘Pharmacy Goes to Village’ as our one main community development project, as well as the ‘Movement of Secondhand Smoke Protection’, and also our annual prestigious event, the Patient Counseling Event that will be held this November 2012. HMD Farmasi University of Indonesia aims to build strong relationships amongst members, to execute a comprehensive yearly program, to increase awareness of health and pharmaceutical issue and to create a supportive academic and non-academic environment. HMD Farmasi University of Indonesia is an executive institution of Department of Pharmacy, thus accomodation and helping to develop student aspirations.The chairperson of HMD Farmasi University of Indonesia Period 2012-2013 is Abdul Basith Fithroni. HMD Farmasi University of Indonesia consists of nine divisions which are run by ASKES (Administration and Secretarial Officer), KIMED (Communication and Multimedia Officer), MASERASI (Development of Student Recourses Management Officer), INFUS (Innovation, Fund and Sponsorship Officer), DAPAR (Department of Academic, Profession and Pharmacy’s Study Officer), DERMATOL (Department of Community and Social Officer), SYIFA (Islamic Religion Officer), DEKOKTA (Sport and Creativity Officer), RELAKSASI (External Relation Officer). At university, we hope to expand our knowledge, understand the theories as well as practice clinical skills and techniques of compounding and dispensing. We also look forward to every opportunity which allows us to provide advice and information to the community. Some of the highlights from our yearly program include the 3rd Pharweek, the biggest event from HMD Farmasi University Indonesia and was held on January 11th – 13th, 2012 at University Indonesia, Depok Campus. The main seminar was “For beauty being the best, sums up the unsearchable secret aims to nature” and also our Patient Counseling Competition, BA-BE (Bioavailability and Bioequivalence) workshop, drug modeling competition, and ‘Community and Campaign’ service. The international seminar topic was about biotechnology cosmetics, herbal cosmetics and safety cosmetics. We invited speakers from Indonesia and abroad who have years of experience, and the audience will never find an opportunity to learn from these experts in one place at any other seminar. This event was a program from DAPAR (Department of Academic, Profession and Pharmacy’s Study Officer). Pharmacy Care 2012 is a program from DERMATOL (Department of Community and Social Officer). During 19th-20th November 2011, we went to the village Bojong Loa, Banten and did a survey of the most common diseases in the community. Our theme was “Pharmaceutical Care Village” and we planted TOGA (family of medicinal plants), with almost 28 types of crops planted that could be used as mosquito repellent, food, heat source and preventative for urinary tract infections. We also gave health counseling with the theme,“Bojong Loa free from diarrhea and vomiting.” This year, we continued this program in the same village but with different goals. We provided training and guidance about the importance of good waste management, and also how to plants medicinal plants and use them as a first aid treatment for ill patients.

Furthermore, we also held Beef Kadsu, an educational and social program where participants of HMD Farmasi taught children who had dropped out of school due to financial difficulties. The participants taught subjects on a weekly basis, with subjects based on the child’s last grade, such as mathematics, science and language. We also collected used books and stationary. Hopefully, these children will still receive a formal education. Lastly, this year HMD Farmasi have scheduled more educational programs like Pharmaction, seminar soft skills, Pharmacy Training Camp, ‘Pharmacy Goes to Industry’ and Patient for Counseling. Description of the activity Aims : • Informing herbal medicine simply to elementary school students so they care about herbal medicine and knowing how to grow herbal medicine and use the herbal medicine for treatment. • Celebrating World Healthy Day on April 7th and World Environment Day on June 5th Methods and used tools/ materials : • Publication : posters to Pangudi Luhur Elementary School whilst the event was held. • Event : one of our lecturers gave a lecture about herbal medicine, its function and how to use herbal medicines for treatment. 4th and 5th grade students were rotated throughout the day to listen to the lecture and to also plant herbal medicines. Results : The students were very enthusiastic and they showed interest about herbal medicines, especially since they could grow the herbal medicine by theirselves. On the anniversary of the establishment, the pharmaceutical faculty student body that were named BEM (Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa) Keluarga Mahasiswa Farmasi Universitas Padjadjaran (BEM KEMAFAR UNPAD). To be able to showcase and learn skills on an international level, BEM KEMAFAR UNPAD became a member of IPSF at the 2005 World Congress held in Germany. 1. Training for Delegation November 19, 2011 – Faculty of Pharmacy Universitas Padjadjaran It was a perfect moment to promote every pharmaceutical and healthcare organization that BEM KEMAFAR UNPAD has been involved with to the new students of 2011. 2. HIV/AIDS Day December 1st, 2011 – Faculty of Pharmacy Universitas Padjadjaran We put up 4 posters to remind people about HIV/AIDS and spread 400 red little ribbons to the students around the campus to increase our solidarity for those who live with HIV/AIDS. 3. One Day Fun With IPSF – Welcome Party December 19, 2011 – BOSA café, Jatinangor It was our last event of the year. We invited all of the members to have fun at the end of the term and we also elected the new CP for BEM KEMAFAR UNPAD 2012. We had lunch together, played games, and importantly, we welcomed the new members into our family. About 43 people came, and Putu Indah Saraswati was elected as the 2012 CP and Dinar Azzahra as our LEO 2012. 4. Anti Tuberculosis Day (TB-Day) 20th-24th March 2012, various faculties around Padjadjaran University As a member of the Asia-Pacific region of IPSF, BEM KEMAFAR UNPAD is expected to commemorate World Tuberculosis Day on March 24 with a progam that aimed to inform people about TB and prevention methods. We spread the news via pamphlets, online social media, direct meeting and set up a mini campaign. During the campaign, we also did fund raising for charity (by selling foods and setting up a donation collection). The campaign went well with a lot of students showing interest. The fundraising also went well with a lot of students buying our food and donating their money for the charity. Overall the activiies were quite a success. The total collected amount was donated to the poor patients with TB in the Hospital of Pulmonary Rotinsulu-Bandung. 5. LIT (Leaders in Training) 7th April 2012, Faculty Pharmacy Padjadjaran University To deliver qualified members of IPSF, BEM Kemafar UNPAD implemented this event as part of it’s annual program. It is hoped that each member of BEM Kemafar UNPAD will develop theirs leadership skills, strengthen their sense of belonging within BEM Kemafar UNPADand to bring new spirit for developing BEM Kemafar UNPAD. 12 participants were involved and all speakers from UNPAD, UGM, and ITB could speak about issues requested by committee. Participants indeed got involved actively in all simulation and forum group discussions by presenting their discussions to the audience. The games provided also successfully increased the closeness between members of UNPAD and members of UGM and ITB. 6.PCE (Patien Counseling Event) 13th and 20th May 2012, Faculty Pharmacy Padjadjaran University In connection with the deepening of the duties of a pharmacist such professionalism, it is deemed important to have felt a deeper understanding of the importance of possessing skills in effecitlvey delivering drug information and how to use drugs for diseases diagnosed by a doctor. The aim of this event was to provide information and knowledge about drug counseling to patients. This event has been extremely successful. On the first day we held a seminar on patient counselling given by Mrs. Keri Lestari Dandan, one of the senior lecturer’s in the Faculty of Pharmacy at Padjadjaran University. Furthermore, Ms. Sofa Dewi A, one of the students currently enrolled in the Faculty of Pharmacy at Padjadjaran University was also invited to speak.. This event was attended by 40 participants from the class of 2008-2011. On the second day, we held the patient counseling competition. This event saw 20 participants conducted a drug counselling simulations. Participants were then assessed by the lecturer assessor and the winners were: 1.Dinar Azzahra 2009 2. Jossi Meika 2009 3. Zila 2011 Plan IPSF BEM KEMAFAR UNPAD plans for the future is to further enhance the ability of all members in the pharmaceutical field and for all students to be able to adopt a persona of professionalism as well as possessing strong leadership and organizational skills. We also hope every member is able to establish good relationships with other organizations outside the faculty. In addition, in accordance with the vision and mission of IPSF KEMAFAR BEM in enhancing its ability of being a strong player at an international field, we also plan to conduct more activities related to public health and dedicated to the profession of pharmacy. Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa Keluarga Mahasiswa Fakultas Farmasi Universitas Gadjah Mada (BEM KMFA UGM) Student Exchange Programme Our incoming student was Katarzyna Nowak from Poland. She stayed in Yogyakarta for about a month. She picked research as her SEP field, focusing in toxicology. On her early days she had a tour in our campus, seeing our dean and professors, and was amazed by Yogyakarta’s culture. She is also a participant of the 10th APPS and LIT. She went sightseeing to Solo and Borobudur Temple. Whilst the outgoing student was Mayumi Kartika Sari , who travelled to Kunzelsau, Germany. She was placed in a pharmacy for a month and met other SEP students in Stuttgart, Germany. She learnt the differences between pharmacies in Indonesia and Germany and told her SEP experience in an SEP talkshow event held by BEM KMFA UGM.

10th Asia Pacific Pharmaceutical Symposium BEM KMFA UGM is honored to be the host of the 10th Asia Pacific Pharmaceutical Symposium(APPS) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The 10th APPS was held from 2nd-8th July 2011. It gathered around 100 participants throughout Asia Pacific and showed them the rich culture in Yogyakarta and Indonesia. The RC consisted of more than 50 students who were very enthusiastic to be a part of an IPSF regional symposium. Field trip were to Prambanan Temple, one of the biggest Hindu temple in the world and also to the Yogyakarta Sultan’s Palace. 57th IPSF World Congress BEM KMFA UGM sent 7 delegates to the 57th World Congress in Hatyai, Thailand. he other delegates were actively involved in the congress activities and one of our delegates was announced the winner of the PCE for Beginner level. It was a big achievement for BEM KMFA UGM. Blood Donation Blood donation is one simple activity that could bring a big impact to society. Everyday blood is needed everywhere for various treatments and medicinal purposes. The idea of this activity is to raise public awareness that by donating blood we couldd save other people’s lives. Many of the students, lecturers, and staff lined up to donate their blood because this event was open to the public. The Indonesian Red Cross was our partner and were happy to receive many donators though some were denied because they did not meet the necessary requirements.

IPSF Day This was the first Leaders in Training (LIT) session held which focused on IPSF activities. This event was held on 19th November 2011. The aim of this event was to increase students awareness about IPSF and its activities so there would be more students involved in IPSF activities in the future. There were many sessions including energizers, introduction to IPSF and APRO, IPSF annual congress and symposiums and IPSF competitions. Students were high appreciative about this event and expectations is for this event to be held annually.

Diabetes Campaign This year’s ‘Blue Diabetes’ campaign was held to help people increase their knowledge about diabetes, its symptoms, therapy management and prevention options. Dusun Candikarang was chosen as the location of the campaign. There were medical check up’s for the villagers, which consisted of a blood pressure test, blood type test and blood sugar test. The village citizens were also able to discuss with a doctor and pharmacist any health concerns and their medications were dispensed for free. Earlier in the morning one of our lecturer spoke all about diabetes to the citizens and we hope that they will be able to change their lifestyles into a healthy one. Children were also encouraged to learn about diabetes by participating in an interactive quiz. National Debating Competition The 2nd National Debating Competition was held by BEM KMFA UGM on 26th-27th November 2011. As a future pharmacist, we have to serve our country in the best way. We could help to develop a better public health system in the future, or increase the health standard in the future. During this event, many motions were discussed with pharmacy students expressing their opinions regarding health and pharmaceutical issues. Many brilliant ideas arose from the participants disscusion thus demonstrating that the current generation have concerns about issues and problems in society. Patient Counseling Competition The Patient Counseling Competition was held with the national seminar with the main theme “The Art of Pharmacist’s Counselling”. Counselling is one skill a pharmacist must master, and there are many ways to learn it. In this seminar, we were shown the art of counseling with effective tips and trick. More than 190 participants attend the seminar, and 51 entered the competition. This is an annual event and hopefully it will get bigger each year so it could help future pharmacists master their counselling skill. World Aids Day Campaign HIV/AIDS Campaign was a talkshow with the topic “Revealing the Fact of HIV Drug”. It was open to the public with no registration fees, so many people were involved. Students from management and engineering were also invited to particpate alongside healthcare students. For the talkshow, we had 3 speakers including 2 doctors and 1 of our lecturer’s. We also invited a patient with HIV/AIDS to share her story. At the end of the talkshow we made a human red ribbon formation whilst releasing 100 baloons to the air, symbolising our commitment to the fight against HIV/AIDS. “Fight the virus, not the person” - that was the main idea of the campaign.

Stopping TB Day It was commemorated on the 22nd March 2012. The campaign tried to increase students awareness of this disease, with Indonesia still having a high number of deaths attributed to TB. Students were asked to wear green clothes and a picture with our green lung model was taken. Students were very happy to participate in this campaign, shown by their involvement in wearing green clothes and formed the green lung formation. An online campaign was also held on Twitter, sharing some informations and facts about TB. We hope this campaign will become an annual campaign, with this year being the first time.

World No Tobacco Day Campaign Following the successful diabetes campaign held at Dusun Candikarang, this year’s WNTD was held in the same village. We expected a higher number of participants for this campaign with students from the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Dentistry being involved. We provided more medical check up tests, as well as opportunities for villagers to speak to doctors and pharmacists. One of our professor’s also gave a lecture about how to maintain lungs health, healthy lifestyle without tobacco, and other lung related diseases. We also held a campaign highlighting tobacco industrial interference, this year’s WNTD theme by WHO. Together we will try to make our campus and Yogyakarta itself a ‘free tobacco’ area, and we aim to increase students awareness to stop the tobacco industries domination by completing a petition to the government regarding this issue. INTRODUCTION Forum for Pharmacy (FoP) is an organization established in 1999 by the pharmacy students of Kathmandu University (KU) for the welfare of pharmacy education and the profession as a whole with an objective to work for professional and academic activity in and out of KU. This organization is independent to organize its activities within the limit of its objective under the umbrella of KU. CONTENT Health Camp: As per our annual program, a free health camp was organized this year in Saping village of Kavre district on 11th of June, 2011. This year’s health camp included free health check up’s and free dispensing of medications. Keeping this in mind, the 3rd year pharmacy students, under FoP and KU in collaboration with Dhulikhel hospital and Samajik Jagaran Manch organized a one day free health check-up along with free medicine dispensing and counseling with the Dhulikhel hospital doctor. Medications for the camp were collected from nine different pharmaceutical companies, and the district health office in Dhulikhel. 6 doctors of different specialties(1- Eye, 1- ENT, 1- Gynae/ Obs, 3- General Medicine) also participated from Dhulikhel Hospital - Kathmandu University Teaching Hospital. A total of 220 people had their health checked, ailments diagnosed, free medicines dispensed along with proper counselling. FoP has been performing such health related awareness programs in the past and is dedicated to organize such program in future too. World Diabetes Day: As the annual program of FoP, a free diabetes camp was organized this year in Sadabahar hospital, Khadichaur on 19th Nov, 2011. Free diabetic screening was offered to patients along with free medicine distribution. Medicines for the camp were collected from Deurali Janta Private Limited (DJPL). 2nd and 3rd year pharmacy students under FoP were responsibile for the program. The program was conducted in collaboration with Sadabahar hospital, Khadichaur hospital. A total of 76 people had their health checked. FoP has been performing such health related awareness programs in the past and is dedicated to organize such program in future too. Blood donation programme: As part of the annual program of FoP, a blood donation drive was organized on 5th June, 2012 under the active participation of first year students. The program was held at the basement in the C.V Raman Auditorium, Kathmandu University with collaboration from the Nepal Red Cross Society, Kathmandu. The main purpose was to help the Red Cross gather blood and thereby aid in the supply of increasing blood demands at the hospitals. A total of 186 donors donated their blood.

INTRODUCTION PSA-Taiwan is a non-profit, non-governmental, non-political and non-religious association founded in 1998, which represents around 3500 pharmacy students all around Taiwan. New Zealand Association of Pharmacy Students-Otago (NZAPS-Otago) Dear APRO members, It has been a great start to the year, with the pharmacy camp being the first on the NZAPS-O executives’ agenda. The camp was relocated this year to a new location with new facilities including a confidence course. The camp consists of 2 days of fun and sports, where the students are able to form bonds prior to engaging the pharmacy course. Members of the teaching staff also came to visit and to speak with future students. I can inform APRO that our involvement with IPSF is progressing well. This year we have 3 students, one from Canada and the other two from Malaysia, confirmed to do their IPSF student exchange program in Dunedin. We have chosen and have come upon an agreement from the owner/ manager of the site to host the students. This also means that we have an increased number of students that we may be able to send overseas, of which we have had an overwhelming response. For this year’s IPSF world congress, being held in Hurghada, Egypt from the 1st of August until the 11th, we will be sending 4 members to attend, with myself included. In terms of social events, we will have a very busy year ahead with the first ever pharmacy only ball and numerous other gatherings. This year we have had and will be introducing numerous other social events with more academia in mind. At the end of March, we held the first ‘meet and greet’ where students from all year groups are gathered together to share their experiences about their pharmacy studies. This will be the initial form of a mentoring program that I would like to implement through NZAPS-O. Lecturers were also invited to this event to address issues that students have. Later this year, we will also have the ‘Professional Awareness Seminar’ were we invite pharmacists of various roles, be it hospital, community, or involved in policy making, to talk about their journey in pharmacy and hopefully increase the scope of professional awareness amongst pharmacy students. These initiatives were partly taken to attract other members of the student cohort to join NZAPS-O but it is thought that by implementing more academic based social events, NZAPS-O can hopefully become more balanced in its social, academia, and culture involvements with students. Lastly, we have also started our preparation for the ‘Pharmacy Revue’ of which will be loosely based on the Lord of the Ring series.
