City of Gold Coast | Palm Beach Shoreline Project Palm Beach is one of the most vulnerable beaches under threat of coastal erosion. City of Gold Coast engineers developed a plan to nourish the beach with 47,000 m3 of clean sand then constructed an artificial reef for further protection.

Capestone Lake | Moreton Bay Regional Council A pumped saltwater exchange system draws water from the adjacent creek with flows to several discharge points turning over its volume in a 30 day cycle. The lake is the first of its kind in south east Queensland and provides flood immunity for the Capestone Southern Precinct.

Livingstone Shire Council | Statue Bay – Cyclone Marcia Reconstruction Works In February 2015, Cyclone Marcia caused severe damage to the steep escarpment above the coastal Scenic Highway at Statue Bay. The $25 million reconstruction involved construction of a mechanically stabilised embankment with ocean protection wall and stabilisation of the cliff face with 15m soil nails and shotcrete surfacing. This damage-prone road has been transformed into an expansive, safe multi-user thoroughfare.

In 2020, IPWEAQ introduced a new excellence award for Coastal Engineering which was won by the City of Gold Coast for its Palm Beach shoreline restoration program (see January).
