The hub of authentic Ethiopian cuisine Have you ever tried Ethiopia’s mouth-watering dish which is ideal for both carnivores and herbivores? Then you don’t know what you are missing! If you head to Mesi’s kitchen, you can be confident of getting authentic freshly cooked Ethiopian Food served by friendly staff known for their hospitality. The cuisine at Mesi’s Kitchen consists of a vast array of traditional dishes served on enormous trays lined with Injera – a large pancake made of a blend of wheat and rice. You can opt for Teff Injera made from teff. This tiny grain, arguably the oldest grain in the world, (dating back to 4000 BC) is not only packed with minerals, vitamins and amino acids, it is also gluten-free. It comes straight from Ethiopia and is available on request at the time of booking. Mesi, whose mother tutored her in the art of Ethiopian haute cuisine over decades, offers affordable quality food. But price must never compromise quality. Indeed Mesi keeps a check on the standard of all food; nothing leaves the kitchen without Mesi’s approval. Freshness of the dishes is imperative. Whether consisting of meat or vegetables, combined with the addition of specially prepared fresh herbs and spices, the dishes are outstandingly tasty. Freshly prepared fish stew and also lamb, beef, chicken stew made with spiced and melted butter are all available, each with its own character and flavour. They are served before you at your table. Where hospitality of the culture is expressed in sharing food, guests are invited to share with each other, eating with their hands in the traditional style, dispensing with the need for cutlery. As most Ethiopian Orthodox Christians forsake meat and dairy products during numerous fasting days, fresh vegetable and lentil dishes too have reached a high level of culinary sophistication and are suitable for vegetarian and vegans. Actually vegetarian and vegan dishes with their colours and subtle flavours have added a new and important dimension to Ethiopian cuisine in Mesi’s Kitchen. Ethiopians, said not to have a sweet tooth, accounting for the absence of desserts on the menu but at Mesi’s Kitchen is an array of cakes is available. No Ethiopian meal is complete without traditional coffee. Ethiopian Coffee is prepared in the traditional way so as to preserve the flavour and oils in the bean. Fresh beans are washed, roasted then ground. Finally, the ground beans are added to water in a special pot and cooked. The result, served in small cups, is a coffee with a truly subtle flavour. Served with popcorn to the lingering fragrance of burning incense, part of the preparation, you have a traditional Ethiopian Coffee ceremony!
