RES. - A
Hi.
ever since my own curiosity through the world of architecture, I am very passionate in the world of design. my works are most likely in the architectural projects, but I also do the graphic works and layouts projects. My interest in both graphic design and architecture is the primary idea of mine.
My name is Irfan, and I am graduated from architecture, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Surabaya, with my GPA 3.62 (Cum Laude). I have a strong interest in both architecture and graphic design. Right now, my ambition is to expand my knowledge in the world of design

The Architecture Design Studio 3 - talks about architecture and sense. In this semester, we were taught how sense correlates with architecture, and how we can implement sense to our design strategy. The innerpath is categorized as my ‘early ideas’ to works in architecture, undoubtedly that my present works would stand out differently with this one. Innerpath is my prediction and self-interpretation of sense in architecture, especially the tactile sense. This is amplified by the given site condition which has its own contour. I tried to hyperbolic use contour as my base idea. and implementing that into several of design aspect, and obviously, that crystal form of the building also come for my thinking about sense - contour in this term. This way of thinking is to present my early thinks of architecture and other design - disciplines, that I would emphasize my base idea into complex thinking. And here is my design narrative for this project:
Sleep-work cycle can no longer be avoided in a metropolis city activities. This kind of cycle
then creates a society that seemed to ignore the environment around them, especially a place where the activities occur. If such event continues, this may lead to an environmental abuse, and exploitation. Each person is only focused on their own thing, ignoring everything around them, the environment only becomes a place and inanimate objects that are used by humans. Our sense should work simultaneously to each other, but with the condition of urban society now and technological development that eases human, we can literally doing anything with a touch of fingertips. This leads to an idea to stimulate the sense back to work simultaneously, with the main goals is to increase the environmental awareness. the building main purpose is to stimulate sense to provides healthy inhabitant, in order to increase the environmental awareness. The building is a fit and wellness center by maximizing the potential condition of existing site contour.

The Architecture Design Studio 4 - talks about architecture and collective memory. In this semester, we were taught how collective memory effects design criteria and how architecture from time to time adheres to the representation of the times, the representation of the spirit, the makers of things, and the media to patent the collective memories of humans The D.R.Y represent my transition of thinking from random - abstract with no basic argumentation - to more concrete but with the consideration of visual composition and looks. This is represented by the building composition which has the main axial looks - the radial base - with each of module that profoundly emphasizes the efficiency of space and rigid form. Although collective memories were the main theme of this studio, I tried to chose a different way of thinking of collective memories. This is represented by the project main hypothesis: that collective memory should not be always created by previous memories - old memories, but it can be created by the user (person) with the help of space composition and other architectural design methods that help the creation of collective memories. My hypothesis of this collective
memories is rather radical, by merging two of ethics identity into one work spaces, to build upon the collective memories.
The proposal is to create a collective memory by sharing the sub-culture habit to another sub-culture in one space of architecture. Collective memories can be created and generated by two subjects of cultural social groups. In context, Balinese and Sasaknese was the subject of this proposal. The goals are to create a collective memory between two subjects in brief to be shareable memories. To achieve that condition, the idea was to make a space of perception. Space is intended to be a general concept, consisting of a primary and secondary function of the building. The primary function of the building is intended to be an industrial park, which in every activity the subject can interact one to another intensively.

The last design studio or Studio 5 are exceptionally different from another previous studio. The final studio talks about experimentation in architecture. The term experimental is often related towards the notion of researching and gathering data. Chromaticfences are also started with my curiosity to merge the non-representational arts - the abstraction of things - into an architectural object. This is done by research about surrealism and visual programming. This project is profoundly related with a visual graphic, and less likely compromises with architectural material and other basic architectural objects. These visual are also closely related to psychedelic arts. This being said as my intention to merge visual graphic and architecture object. The issue is also started with my forecast about the future of 2030. The issue is dragged into a specific context, which was the visual problem that is causing the growth of the city. With the intention to provoke graphics in this project, the following images may not be well understood. This project is also my reflection point where my ideas become more blur into abstraction, rather than the rigid frame of thinking, and this well affects my interpretation of final projects. The experimentation also occurs
in every section of the design phase, which produces my decision to be widely open - as experimentation does.
Surrealism is a cultural movement that began in the early of 1920s and is best known for its visual artworks and writings. the aim was to “resolve the previously contradictory conditions of dream and reality. Artists painted unnerving, illogical scenes with photographic precision, created strange creatures from everyday objects and developed painting techniques that allowed the unconscious to express itself. Surrealist works feature the element of surprise, unexpected juxtapositions, and nonsequitur; however, many surrealist artist and writers regard their work as an expression of the philosophical movement first and foremost, with the works being an artifact. The direct visual interaction between streets and construction site is fences of its construction. to resolve the visual discomfort, the fences are then redefined by place a more appealing program to which extends the use of the fences. Chromaticfences are refers to its removal of the Monochromatic visual discomfort issue.

The Final Creation. The final project, which obviously my last product - in terms of undergraduate study - has so much influence from my own state of minds, and my own perception about architecture. The final project given time is the longest of any studio, which then my full attention for this project should able to stand out in other projects. It may seem that my final project, doesn’t represent with my previous works. the straight lines, building tower are uncompromisingly different from my other works. But the point of this project is not about only the looks of the building, but also our design thinking through the whole project. In this final project, I am able to understand better of architecture, and its correlation with psychological aspect. Rather, this project is placed as my current reaction about understanding architecture, and how I represent my own hypothesis and argumentation about my radical concept. As my initial
idea is started from my own curiosity and passion, the timeless - concept is my own notion about architecture that able to be last much longer than it should. Then, I tried to compile my understanding of timelessness, both in the section architecture and in the section of psychology. and I tried to elaborate this understanding into my final project, which packs up my overall thinking. The timeless tower; as the name suggests, is my full intention to give this project a very special condition, a hope to last longer than it should - perspectively to its user.
To understand the meaning of timeless in the context of rejuvenating the historical identity of Kota Tua Jakarta, first, we must identify the needs of the district by placing the building as the initial expression of timelessness. The result could be seen in a years after some specific criteria happen.

The Spatial Paradox FUTURARC 2013 is one of my early competition projects. The competition talks about a small green building that can affect on a larger scale. Our proposal is to utilize the wasted space beneath the toll road, which usually is used by hawkers, then transform it into a suitable place for the hawkers itself, while also considering the connection of the future transportation Hub. With the team of 5, my task in this project is to arrange the layout of the panels and produce some of its diagrammatic presentation.
In early of 2016 the local government of DKI Jakarta is planning to expand the pedestrian ways up to 8 or 10 meter, the existing pedestrian way is now 5 - 6 meter wide, this was done in response to the other local government program, which is making public transportation as the main city mobility mode, especially busway and MRT.
This 10 meters wide pedestrian way will also fill with a greener area for the pedestrian and the public transportation user, considering public transportation as the main city mobility mode, the local government will also add biking path along the pedestrian way, the design was yet to reveal but the concept is now currently being reconsidered. The chosen prototype will be a “parasite” object because of its structure that is supported by the existing flyovers columns. Street hawker is assessed to be the most proper target to be relocated to our project. The project is intended to be a new place built vertically, which doesn’t interfere much of the existing elements. Credit to: Bayu Rizky R, Ahndya Chita S, Natasha Ayu H. , M. Jehan Aldila

Future Urban-Rural Hub This projects remarks my first intention to have a strong interest in architecture, especially conceptual based - visual design - and high rise architecture. This project was done according to the final assessment of the Tropical Architecture class. With the team of 5, we are able to produce the radical idea to expand the connection between urban and rural which was said to be congested in the future. Our approach for this project is to create limitless boundaries between two contrast area, by placing a transportation hub, which extends from the rural are up to the foremost urban area.
the truth about the presence of society gap in each and every country is inevitable, this kind of thing happened because of the movement of technological condition in every region, this kinds of development then affect the perception of people about “URBAN”
and “RURAL” this kind of things is affected by the natural resources and the human resources which are available in that region, as we can see Surabaya as a metropolitan city which has high rate of technological development compared to the other city in east java has lead our perception about urban region in Surabaya itself, The urban region often called as a region which has the bad response to the environment, while the rural region is identically known as a region which has a good response to nature but slow technological development. The concept of the loop then applied to the routes, this kind of route provides the seamless experience of the urban or rural user. they keep moving in a circle to provide the connection in between the society. Activity Catalyst The competition began with an issue about how we can connect two separated site by reactivating the river that flows through each of the sites. Our proposal is aimed specifically at the aspect of accessibility, which was the main aspect of developing the separated site. In this competition, we tried to implement our basic idea about accessibility into more widen architectural object, this is spotted through the making of elevated path. This re-thinking about accessibility was driving us to the second place of this competition.
Accessibility is one of the main concern of developing a separated site. An elevated, looping path around the site is created to provide connectivity to the site, which also creates a more better sight to the environment around the site. The six main concept for this project is supporting the economy, preserving locality, respecting existing, gen-
erating river activities, and looping connectivity. The design process is started with our observation to the site, which later continued with deciding the program that may implement to the site. Connectivity for the site is achieved through the flexible circulation which is provided by the elevated path. The pattern increases the connectivity to each activity generator that is spread across the site, this is also increasing the visual connectivity to some of the sighting points around the site. Implemented program on this park allows various activities to be created. Fluid elements create more optimal flexible dimension. Each of the rooms serves as the catalyst of an activity. Flexible - Inviting Box Our intention for this competition is started by a contradiction to the competition brief. The competition main intention is to create a cultural space which has a lot embodied cultural related object - ornament. What we tried to propose in the project is simply by not implementing any of the cultural gimmicks, but to provide a flexible, open plan building that can serve both of the cultural exhibition but also the cultural activities, such as painting, or training. The flexibility of its rooms allows us to create an inviting space, built directly facing the main roads. The culture injection, which is the competition main theme/tagline, is redefined by us to create an injection directly to an urban area, where the understanding culture is started to fade away.
Essentially, culture center functions as a center of knowledge and learning for the people. Culture knowledge often taught exclusively, otherwise, the delivery could be informal and involve the community to ease the information delivery. CULTURE BOX is our response that tried to insert culture to the current modern lifestyle. The fact of increasing mall visitor in Jakarta and contrast number of interest in culture is a thing that can be responded architecturally, with humbly allows people to come, and position the building as possibilities outside the mall experiences Credit To: Bayu Rizky R.

The Kampung Infill. “Improving kampung and urban mutualism through sequential phasing. is our main initial response for this competition issue, to infill parts of Kampung into the development of a city. The infill is started with a smaller scale of the kampung itself, and selected site is developed into several smaller space and program. In this project, our goals are to create phases to each of the projects, so that the development of each project could simultaneously integrate with the kampung development itself. This project remarks our idea and to implement those understanding into the competition. My abilities to understand the phase and transform it into several of diagrams and symbols are one of my main presentation of this projects.
Saungsae is an initial intervention of kampung to a city. To create a kampung that can have a positive impact on the city, it is necessary to plan gradually, our proposal is to raise the awareness of their potential, with the understanding of their own potential, the development of the kampung can be started, with the existence of this kampung, Bandung would take various benefits. Storytelling. The flash competition brief are only publicated 1 week before the submission. In one week, we should produce a design thinking about some topics. Overall, this project is about our proposal and idea of understanding memories, and how the urban fabrics is composed of memories.
more than one space at the same time, this kind of things will perhaps reshape the understanding and the memories that we have built before about space, and today this kind of things is no longer merely imagination. And through this, we could conclude the very essence of moving around the city
Your reality is shaped by your memories, you live in pattern world which later translated by your minds, your senses are merely a peripheral device to transfer the world pattern to your minds, and your minds are pretty good at extracting them and assigning meaning for the input pattern, the understanding of the worlds of a built environment is shaped by your memories and understanding of the world itself, you rarely think of this because you are firmly settled into your built environment. Our reality (memories) are limited by our biological constraint, the understanding of space and time as it is today were also limited by our biological constraint.
While moving around the city, the only things that matter to you are getting from point A to B, we rarely appreciate the routes that we take, we take those routes because we needed to, rather than we wanted to, the routes that we take seems to be a mere subject that we ignore, the memories about the city is shaded by the intense city mobility where everyone passes through the city without assigning meaning to their built environment, so why don’t we just move around the city because we wanted to? Creating memories about the city as we assign meaning to every detail of the city we live in.
We are provided with a tremendous amount of technology. Imagine yourself being in

Audiencies The Nonarchitecture Competition talks about sports and how we redefine sports in the future. The proposal for this project is to retracing the understanding of sports itself, what is sports, and how sports can be built as today. The answer was pretty radical, with the main reason that sports could be defined as it is, is because of there are spectator and audience for that event. And our redefined menu of this thing is our primary idea.In this project, I also creates the overall illustration, of the prism.
SPECTATOR PRISM – tracing the history of sports So many years sports has been linked towards physical Activities. Sports itself started since the prehistoric age of the human civilization, where humankind use sports as their entertainment, assertively written on the cave of the wall, an illustration of humankind wrestling. The next stage of sports started in the ancient Greece when they were
planning on creating an army, they train their citizen through physical gaming, which later inviting a lot of spectators. This activity is later known as sports. What may seemingly unimportant was the idea that spectators have a very intimate connection with the sports itself, the sense of belonging towards the sports actor which they support invites us to pull this issue to the surface. For us, the future sports facility is the future sports spectator facility. The prism is made of glass, bind to the steel structure. The steel structure is attached to the rotating gear box in order for the prism to shift it shape, the shape of the prism allows the LCD projectors underneath it to project its image to the glass surface, the image will pass through the convex lens and projected to the 4 sides of the prism creating a hologram like image Credit To: Bayu Rizky R, Ahndya Chita S., Gilang Fajar K, Sadida Aghnia.
