Pattern 1: Visual connection with nature- plants and green ceiling at reception to stimulate and calm users. Pattern 6: Dynamic and Diffuse Light- direct sunlight comes through high windows to help transition between indoor and outdoor. APattern 11 Prospect: The balcony provides an unimpeded view over the entire store which gives users an open feeling.

Reception

The reception is a thoughtful space for all users. It is energetic and comfortable. The custom made background wall design was inspired by the concept “cat’s cradle”. It acts as a focal point as people first walk in. Connecting and separating the lines to emphasis on our relationship with stray animals and pets. The two separated rooms are designed for pets with aggression to people and other animals. The balcony is designed as a waiting area and social spot for pet owners.

Pet Shop

The “cat’s cradle” concept transforms to a juxtaposition of metal bars to mimic the intercrossing of string figure to create an “infinite” space, which symbolizes the interdependent relationship between human and animals. Saturated yellow, pink, orange, and blue hues are chosen to be seen by animals. Each of them represents for selection of living, dining, home, and toy. They also give guides and directions to customers as they choose their product category. Users are easy to find what they are looking for according to the signage on the floor and different colors.

Cat Cafe

The “cat’s cradle” concept transforms into an unenclosed shall, which is the focal point of the cafe. It attracts and allows both cats and animal lovers to participate and have fun with. Most furniture is custom made and is intended to be interactive to cats and human.

A ladder and string web are designed for cats to play freely even when surrounded by people.

This cat room is separated to the main cafe by a glass wall, It can be both used for a quiet workspace for animal lovers and a reserved party room.

Seating options are created to better accommodate different needs. The chairs are woven using ropes which correspond with the concept.

Study Room

Tables and chairs are easy to move around and rearranged.

Study Room

A custom made shelf is for cats to play freely in this space. They can blend in with space because the partition is no longer a separation to them.

Bean bag sofa encourages users to interact and play with cats comfortably on the ground.

Luxury marble finishes bring the pet spa on the next level. Durable and visually pleasing.

Non-slippery ceramic finishes is easy to clean and great for pets.

Custom made partition wall that matches with other custom made furniture.

Combining both shower and grooming table makes the service easier. One to one spa rooms is suitable for small dogs or dogs with aggression to other animals.

MATERIAL SELECTION

Because Pet Collection is an animal-friendly space, they are a part of the primary consideration of materials. Most surfaces are non-slippery, easy to clean, and anti-bacterial. Wood is FDS certified which is bio-based renewable wood and is sourced within 100 miles of the site. The flooring in the retail area are made by bamboo which is stain and scratchresistant, and anti-bacterial.

WOOD FLOOR AND WALL COVERING

RUG

PAINT

Wall coverings are mostly paints which are carefully selected and VOC free. Metal structure in the retail area is made of stainless steel which is anti-bacterial, durable, and stretch-free. Area rugs are made by 100% wool and cotton. The overall layout considers the access to natural light and views by organizing public programs close to the front of the building which has most sunlight and views. At the meantime, proper placement to reduce glare by providing window shades.

FURNITURE SELECTION

Furniture is selected based on comfortableness and the ability to allow users to interact with animals. Bean bags encourages interaction between human and animals because when people sit closer to the floor, cats will come to them and play with them.

Because cats and dogs are also the main users, there is special furniture designed for them. For instance, they might feel thirsty and tired when they are in the pet collective, so having some water bowls and pet sofa would help them be more comfortable as well.

COS POP UP Location: 9 Drayton st, Savannah, GA

Both the interior and lighting design is the focus of this project. The layout is designed based on the typical COS store with the concept of androgyny. The lighting is designed according to the needs of focus and brightness. A uni-sex style is consistent throughout furniture and lighting selection.

Project Size: 1835 SQ FT

COS fashion philosophy balances innovative design with enduring style. Beauty in simplicity, function at the forefront. Every piece is made to last beyond the season. Essentials for the modern wardrobe, underpinned by timeless craftsmanship. Buy better. Keep forever.

Androgyny is the combination of masculine and feminine characteristics into an ambiguous form. Originally Tai Chi is a circle with distinct black and white color in the circle, which means two opposite sex. In this diagram, I create a Tai Chi that destroy the boundary between black and white, and it becomes a grey area of the circle. The concept fits COS clothing because anything COS clothing can be wore for different sexes.
