PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS
High standards of competence and integrity are the hallmark of risk management professionals.
As the professional and educational body for risk management, the IRM plays a leading role in setting these standards. They provide a framework for our qualifications, training, and members’ continued professional development (CPD).
The standards set out the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required from those working in risk management – that is, what risk professionals should know and what they should be able to do at various levels of their career, alongside the personal qualities and behaviours needed to do the job well.
They are flexible enough to accommodate different levels of risk maturity within organisations and the wide range of variations that exist in risk job roles.
Professional standards framework
Professional standards describe the knowledge and skills needed to do the job
There are four functional areas, each of which has a number of components:
Insights and Context
Strategy and Performance
Risk management process
Organisational capability
No matter where you are in your journey, we will help you in becoming a certified risk professional
We recognise our members' skills, knowledge and experience via different levels of membership. All professional members must complete at least 30 hours of CPD annually

We support individuals who want a career in risk management, by providing qualifications. We benefit employers by helping them develop a highly-skilled team and improve their risk decision making.

In-house training options:
Bespoke - we work with you to develop and deliver bespoke training courses to meet all your objectives We develop the course and reference materials which can be delivered on a rolling basis or as a unique event, depending on your requirements

Selected education providers help to deliver our qualifications and training courses Organisations can deliver our training courses by becoming a licensed provider or have their own courses accredited by the IRM.
If you already hold a risk management qualification, you may qualify for exemptions to some of the modules on the International Diploma in Risk Management, thereby accelerating your journey to full professional qualification.
