Begin your career as a vital link in the pre-hospital healthcare delivery system—trained as a first responder that helps save lives in the event of illness or injury in response to emergency calls. IRSC offers three selective-admissions Emergency Medical Services programs. Final consideration is based upon completion of the following prior to the application deadline. Applicants must • Be at least 18 years of age prior to the first day of class; • Have a high school diploma or GED®; • Complete the IRSC Application for Admission; • Complete the IRSC Health Science Application and

pay the $30 application fee;

• Ensure all official transcripts are on file at

IRSC Student Records; and

• Consult the EMT and Paramedic Application Books

for additional application requirements.


IRSC Programs The 12-credit Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certificate program teaches basic life-support skills and prepares you to assess injuries, administer emergency medical care, and transport injured or sick persons to medical facilities. Graduates of the EMT program are eligible to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification exam. Upon successful completion of the exam, graduates are awarded the NREMT credential and are eligible to apply for licensure with the State of Florida. The 42-credit Paramedic Certificate program teaches advanced life-support skills and prepares you to asses illness or injury, and perform emergency diagnostic and treatment procedures. It can be completed in 10 months. Graduates of the Paramedic program are eligible to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Paramedic certification exam (NRP). Upon successful completion of this exam, graduates are awarded the NRP credential and are eligible to apply for licensure with the State of Florida. The Paramedic program of Indian River State College is accredited by the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Education Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). The Associate in Science Degree in Emergency Medical Services is an excellent choice for those interested in leadership and management positions. Credits from the EMT and Paramedic programs apply toward this degree. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify.
