Day of the Dolphin

PART ONE: The WHY

Day of the Dolphin

Chapter One:

Be a Dolphin

The time has finally come. Your time has finally come. The difficult years are coming to an end now and you will no longer need to struggle with life or accept less than you rightfully deserve. The time of the ‘Shark’ is over and it is now the Day of the ‘Dolphin’. You can start living as the Dolphin that you really are and let your goodness shine out for everyone to see because the world needs you and is waiting for you with open arms. You just don’t know it yet… Over the past few years, it has become apparent that the world as we know it has been dissolving in a pretty spectacular way: economic collapse, riots, civil wars, health crises, natural disasters, and mass unemployment. This is fantastic! The reason that I say something so outrageous is because, I believe, that after a bumpy transition, we will create a very new world that operates in a very different and wonderful way. Of course, as our world goes through one of the most extreme periods of upheaval that it has ever seen, it can feel a bit scary and unsettling. We may have to deal with some challenges in the short term, but this is necessary because we, as a species, have evolved and we now need to create a world that works in a more evolved way, too. As Brendon Burchard, motivation trainer and bestselling author, says in his book The Charge, "...the entire baseline of our human motivations has evolved. What made us happy, energized, and fulfilled just fifty years ago no longer applies because our brains, bodies, and society have changed so radically." And for those of you who have always been ‘Dolphins’ and for those who choose to become a ‘Dolphin’ now, this world that is emerging will hold great opportunities. It is the Dolphins now who will be successful in work, successful in relationships, successful in health, successful in prosperity, successful in their community, successful in parenting, and successful in just being plain old happy.

What do I mean by being a ‘Dolphin’? As a Life Analyst I have journeyed into many professions, countries and spiritual paths, and met many, many different people along the way. From, in my adventureyear after college, being a crew member on a charter yacht in Spain and working on

Day of the Dolphin archaeological digs in France and London, to being a copywriter, PR consultant, company director, House Therapist, presenter, freelance book-keeper and independent market trader, I have seen humanity at its best and worst. I have also dived deeply in to my own past to face my inner dragons and have urgently pursued personal growth so that I might understand myself better and the human condition in general. What I have seen along the way has led me to believe that, at the moment, there are three different types of Humans on our planet: Sharks, Salmon and Dolphins. Until now, most people have either operated as a Shark (supreme predator) or a Salmon (farmed, food source) but, as the world changes we will need to adopt the way of the Dolphin (creative team-player) if we want to be fulfilled and successful. In the old world, the people that seemed to easily succeed in life and be immune from struggle have been the Sharks. I think we can probably all recognise a Shark when we meet one (although some of them can be very charming and you don’t realise that you are about to be eaten until it’s too late!). These are the people who believe that for them to win, somebody else has to lose – and they will win at all costs. They need to be in control and will bully, intimidate or manipulate to achieve this, usually targeting the Salmon around them as they tend to steer clear of other Sharks who might be a bigger predator than they are. To Sharks, Salmon are simply seen as a commodity to be managed and used along the way. They also tend to avoid fully-fledged Dolphins as they cannot ‘farm’ Dolphins and Sharks, because they are driven by the Reptilian part of the brain, are very uncomfortable with having anything in their sphere that they cannot control.

Salmon are not always so easy to recognise because they often blend in to the background and try not to stand out from the crowd. They are those people who, maybe because of unhappy experiences in their early life, believe that they can never win so it is best to just keep your head down and try and be nice to the predators so they won’t eat you. This behaviour, of course, just makes predators, like Sharks, want to eat them even more and it is hard for Salmon people not to slip into a repeating cycle of victimhood. Salmon can sometimes find Dolphins a bit scary to be around too because Dolphins can be unpredictable and don’t always play it safe. Salmon people much prefer to play it safe as experiences in life have led them to

Day of the Dolphin believe that this is how they can best survive, even if it means hiding their true beauty and playing it small. Then there are the Dolphins. Dolphins are intelligent, creative and work as a team. They are the people who have great ideas and enthuse those around them with their excitement and energy. They are very resilient – if A doesn’t work then they simply try B, enjoying the process of finding a solution and working with other people to get the best outcome. They acknowledge the people around them and are not afraid to stand up to a Shark if they have to. In the wild if a shark threatens a pod of dolphins they will take it in turns to ram the shark in the ribcage until it goes away. They are fast, sleek and have a lot of fun. You know when you are around a Dolphin (human and sea creature) because you simply feel good. This makes me think about a time, many years ago, when I went with a group of people out on a boat off the coast of the Canary Islands to watch the dolphins (the sea creature ones). We were privileged to come across a pod of about 100 spotted dolphins who zipped around our boat obviously finding us new and interesting. Some of them leapt out of the water, maybe to get a better look at us or maybe just for the fun of it and then, after about 20 minutes, they decided it was time to move on and, as one, took off at torpedo speed into the distance. I can remember that, while they were around the boat, I couldn’t stop smiling and laughing and the other people on the boat were the same. It is simply uplifting to be around dolphins. In the old world, where the choice was mostly being a Shark or a Salmon, it would certainly have paid off to be a Shark, unless, of course, you could find a school of other Salmon and just lie-low together. But if you wanted to be safe and successful, it would have been almost compulsory to join the Sharks. As an unaware Dolphin, back in the eighties, I tried to join the Sharks thinking that was the only way I could be happy and successful but it simply didn’t work (thank goodness) though I paid the price in stress and health while I was doing it. I tend to find that when a Dolphin tries to be a Shark it often backfires and we have even seen this played out on the world stage with famous Dolphins like Princess Diana (more of that later). However, in recent decades it has not been easy to be a fully-fledged Dolphin and people who are natural Dolphins have often struggled to be successful in a world that doesn’t acknowledge this way of being. Maybe you have experienced

Day of the Dolphin this yourself – you know that you have great gifts and skills but for some reason, you have not been able to really manifest them in your personal or professional life. Maybe you have actively held back from fully expressing your gifts and have not been as successful as your CV would suggest you could be. You may have even camouflaged yourself as a Salmon to avoid standing out and being battered by a world that didn’t understand you or honour you. Don’t worry, you are not alone. But times are changing and since the tipping point in 2012 (see Chapter 3 – ‘Why Now?’) we are now increasingly moving in to a ‘frequency’ that favours Dolphin behaviour rather than Shark behaviour and allows Salmon to start transforming in to Dolphins should they choose to. Also I predict that, people/ organisations/ governments that try to hang on to the Shark way of doing things, will find that, more and more, their behaviour just doesn’t pay off and that they will be seen very quickly for what they are. Life will no longer reward them. This may even encourage some of the smaller Sharks to consider metamorphosing in to Dolphins too although I think the ‘Great Whites’ will probably find that a step too far (see Chapter 4 – ‘Are Dolphins Born or Made?’). So how do you become a fully-fledged Dolphin…
