Formerly a member of Twyla Tharp’s company, Lang has created more than 90 works for companies worldwide. With great ingenuity and choreography described as “achingly beautiful” (Chicago Tribune), Jessica Lang is quickly becoming one of the most celebrated choreographers of her generation. In celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment, affording women the right to vote, the EVE Project features a comprehensive range of women choreographers, from the deepest roots of modern dance—Martha Graham’s heroines and anti-heroines—to contemporary superstars. The program includes Diversion of Angels, Graham’s lyrical essay on love; Ekstasis, a gorgeous reconstruction of Graham’s original creation of the discovery of a woman’s body; Lamentation Variations, in which today’s choreographers take inspiration from Graham’s iconic Lamentation; and Errand into the Maze, a Graham masterwork and her signature role, reconstructed with accented choreography after hurricane Sandy.
