WELCOME To our Audience:

We are delighted to welcome you to Irvine Barclay Theatre for a performance during this, the first month of 2015. We wish you and your family and friends all the best in the New Year. The Barclay has a colorful history of presenting unique entertainment and creative experiences for a family audience, experiences we hope each member of the family, parent and child, will enjoy separately and together. During January we offer two strong examples. When I first heard of the Harry Potter production and that it boasted condensing all seven of the books into a just-over-an-hour-long entertainment, I must admit I was skeptical. Owning first editions and having read them cover-to-cover within days of publication, I simply couldn’t imagine the how of it. I took the opportunity to see the show in New York and realized, while sitting in a wildly enthusiastic audience, that it was not about elaborately re-telling a great story, but rather about evoking favorite moments from a great read(s). In the end, it is the confident and consummate talents of Dan and Jeff, the creators and original actors, who made the concept work. Brave men, they are.

New York’s JazzReach program featuring the Metta Quintet has been a pleasure to present for several years now. They are great musicians backed by an organization dedicated to creating interpretive programs designed to inform and attract audiences to America’s indigenous and ground-breaking music. Not only are the program and the quintet ambassadors of jazz to concert audiences such as yourselves, but this time around they will also have spent several days in our public schools sharing the history and musicianship of jazz music with hundreds and hundreds of elementary school students. We’re proud to present these programs and very grateful to those who help support them.

WHO’S WHO IN THE CAST Daniel Clarkson (Writer & Performer) graduated from Bretton Hall in 2000 with a spring in his step and a smile on his face. Twelve years on, the steps are a little less springy but the smile still remains! He is probably best known for being one half of the double act Dan and Jeff, creators of Potted Pirates, the Olivier-nominated Potted Panto, and Potted Potter, which received its own Olivier nomination last spring. He was delighted to be able to take the show to North America, including spending an amazing summer in New York. Daniel had a fantastic time throughout 2009–10 presenting in the CBBC Office for the BBC with Jeff, receiving his first-ever fan mail! Other TV credits include Where The Heart Is (ITV), C oronation Street (ITV), Emmerdale (ITV), and Big Brother’s Little Brother (C4). Film credits include: The Usual Children and The Guilty Hunter. On stage he has co-written and starred in Potted Potter, Potted Pirates and Potted Panto with Dan. This has led to U.K. tours, critical acclaim, Olivier nominations for Potted Potter and Potted Panto, and sellout West End runs. Jeff thinks he did other work before he met Dan, but Dan says anything Jeff did without him doesn’t matter anymore.

1990-2015 In 1974, Irvine voters approved the first of two bond issues to support the construction of a community performing arts facility. It was finally a partnership of the City of Irvine, the University of California, Irvine, and the volunteer leadership and professional staff of the nonprofit Irvine Barclay Theatre Operating Company that refined the vision and got the job done. The city led the construction; the university provided the land; the theatre’s operating company augmented public support with millions of dollars of private contributions including major gifts from the Barclay family, the Cheng family and The Irvine Company.
