WELCOME Small hall. Big holiday season.

Potted Potter was first brought to my attention by my friend, Sandy Robertson, who saw it in Toronto. I then saw it in New York. Having read each of the seven Harry Potter books within days of publication, I thought I knew something about the subject material. However, I was completely outclassed by the all-ages New York audience who seemed tuned into every nuance. Anyway, here it is and we hope you will enjoy this admittedly goofy romp through those many thousands of pages. This production launches a busy holiday season at the Barclay. Some 20,000 patrons will attend its various offerings. Your support continues to help underwrite the Barclay’s presentations and to make the theater accessible to numerous community organizations. Please consider a tax-deductible, yearend contribution at www.thebarclay.org or by calling (949) 854-4607.

A POTTED HISTORY OF POTTED POTTER 2005: Dan and Jeff are commissioned to create a five-minute street show recapping the plot of the first five Potter books, for performance to queues of fans waiting for the midnight release of the sixth book.

2006: Potted Potter is born as the street show expands into an hour-long performance in which the first six books are parodied. The show premieres on August 4 at Edinburgh’s Zoo Southside venue. Forging a partnership with producer James Seabright and director Dominic Knutton, Dan and Jeff premiere a new version of the show at Pleasance Islington in October.

2007: Under the guidance of director Richard Hurst, the show tours the U.K., including Pleasance Edinburgh, where the seventh book is incorporated just a few days after its release. The tour finishes with a Christmas run at Trafalgar Studios in London. 2008: More U.K. touring, again playing Edinburgh Fringe and London. Dan and Jeff also launch their second show, Potted Pirates.

2009: Owing to their commitments as Children’s BBC presenters, Dan and Jeff hand over the show to a new cast, David Ahmad and John Helier, who take it on tour to Adelaide Fringe, Melbourne Comedy Festival, and New Zealand Comedy Festival. Dan and Jeff wrestle the show back from them for a third and final Christmas run at Trafalgar Studios.

2010: The show takes a well-earned rest while Dan and Jeff create their new show, Potted Panto, premiering at the Edinburgh Fringe and transferring to the West End’s Vaudeville Theatre for Christmas, where it is nominated as Best Entertainment at the 2011 Olivier Awards.

2011: Potted Potter returns for another tour, starting at Bury St. Edmunds Theatre Royal and continuing at Pleasance Grand and London’s Garrick Theatre.

2012: Potted Potter is nominated for the Best Entertainment and Family Olivier Award in the U.K. At the onset of its world tour, Potted Potter makes its North American premiere in Toronto at David Mirvish’s Panasonic Theatre, presented by Starvox Entertainment and Potted Productions. Following Toronto, Potted Potter opens off-Broadway at New York City’s Little Shubert Theatre, followed by eight weeks at Chicago’s Broadway Playhouse. In addition to its North America dates, the show tours throughout Australasia and South Africa. 2013: Potted Potter triumphantly returned to London’s West End after successfully touring throughout North America. It recently completed a successful return engagement at New York’s Little Shubert Theatre. From September until the end of the year, the show continues its U.S. tour.

WHO’S WHO IN THE CAST Daniel Clarkson (Writer & Performer) graduated from Bretton Hall in 2000 with a spring in his step and a smile on his face. Thirteen years on, the steps are a little less springy, but the smile still remains! He is probably best known for being one half of the double act Dan and Jeff, creators of Potted Pirates, the Olivier-nominated Potted Panto and Potted Potter, which received its own Olivier nomination last spring. Daniel had a fantastic time throughout 2009–10 presenting in the CBBC Office for the BBC with Jeff, receiving his first-ever fan mail! Other TV credits include Where The Heart Is (ITV), Coronation Street (ITV), Emmerdale (ITV) and Big Brother’s Little Brother (C4). Film credits include The Usual Children and The Guilty Hunter. Theater credits include Accidental Death of an Anarchist, Little Shop of Horrors and Art. After an amazing second season offBroadway, Daniel is thrilled to be back touring the U.S. again this autumn. Jefferson Turner (Writer & Performer). For the past eight years, Jeff has been messing about with Dan, both on stage and screen. He has appeared on TV with the tall one on such shows as Blue Peter (BBC), Richard & Judy (Channel 4), The Slammer (BBC) and Big Brother’s Little Brother (Channel 4), among others, as well as residing in the CBBC Office for all of 2009 and a little of 2010. On stage, he has co-written 6 | IRVINE BARCLAY THEATRE

and starred in Potted Potter, Potted Pirate, and Potted Panto with Dan. This has led to U.K. tours, critical acclaim, Olivier nominations for Potted Potter and Potted Panto and sell-out West End runs. Jeff thinks he did other work before he met Dan, but Dan says anything Jeff did without him doesn’t matter anymore.

James Percy (Alternate Performer) was born and raised in Doncaster, England. Following a law degree from the University of Liverpool, he attended the Birmingham School of Acting. Since then, James has starred in various productions in the U.K. and U.S., as well as working internationally as a stand-up comedian. Potted Productions (Producer) was founded in 2006 by James Seabright in order to produce the work of Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner. Since then, the company has produced Potted Potter in the U.K., Australasia and North America. It has also commissioned and produced the new shows Potted Pirates (Edinburgh 2008, U.K. tours 2008/9/10) and Potted Panto (Edinburgh 2010, Vaudeville, London 2010/11, and U.K. tour 2010/11; Olivier Award Nomination for Best Entertainment 2011). The hunt for other potting opportunities beginning with the letter P continues. Contrary to popular belief in the Americas, ‘potting’ is simply the art of summarizing something into a digestible form, and is intoxicating only in a funny, familyfriendly way.

Seabright Productions (U.K. General Management) is a theater production and general management company based in London’s West End. In addition to being one of the busiest presenters of U.K. tours on the small and middle scale circuits, recent London production and management projects include: Toby Hadoke (Garrick 2013), Our Boys (Duchess 2012), Potted Potter (Trafalgar Studios 2007-9, Garrick 2011/3, world tour 2012), Potted Panto (Vaudeville 2010/11), The Showstoppers’ Improvised Musical (Ambassadors 2011, Criterion 2011, Southbank 2010/11/12 and Kings Head 2009/10), Hit Me (Garrick 2010), Barbershopera (Trafalgar Studios 2010/11), The Fitzrovia Radio Hour (Trafalgar Studios 2011, Ambassadors 2012), Terror (Southwark Playhouse 2009/10, Soho 2011) and Dirty White Boy (Trafalgar Studios 2010). Producer James Seabright’s book, So You Want To Be A Theatre Producer, was published in the U.K. in 2010 and in North America in 2011. James has produced and promoted over 150 productions at the

8 | IRVINE BARCLAY THEATRE

Edinburgh Fringe since 2001, winning various awards including The Herald Angel and The Scotsman Fringe First. He co-founded the Festival Highlights producers’ alliance in 2003, which has since grown to be the largest independent promoter of shows at the largest arts festival in the world, having produced and promoted almost 200 shows in Edinburgh over the past decade. James has twice been the recipient of the Stage One New Producer Bursary (2002 and 2004), is a member of the Society of London Theatre and the League of Independent Producers, and has been a guest speaker at NFTS, RADA, City Lit and at the Masterclass series run by Theatre Royal Haymarket. Starvox Entertainment/Corey Ross (Producer), founded by Corey Ross, produces, manages, represents and promotes cross-over performing arts shows that tour across Canada and the United States, as well as México, China, the Middle East and Europe. Mr. Ross produced Woody Harrelson’s hit theatrical piece, A Bullet for Adolf, and in 2012, he brought the West End comedy, Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience, from London to enjoy record-breaking success in Toronto, New York and Chicago. Starvox also produced the two phenomenally successful benefit concerts for the Stephen Lewis Foundation, Hope Rising! and Hope Rising 2, starring Annie Lennox, Alicia Keys, Harry Belafonte, Rufus Wainwright, K’Naan and others. Starvox was a producer of the new 2013 Toronto production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s CATS. In the fall of 2013, Starvox will produce the award-winning Evil Dead-The Musical in Toronto and Philadelphia. Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience returned this past summer to New York for another successful engagement and begins its 2013-14 tour with soldout engagements in Washington and Boston.
