ABOUT LUIS BRAVO’S FOREVER TANGO Forever Tango was first seen in San Francisco in 1994, where it had a highly successful run of nearly two years. It played on Broadway from 1997 to 1998, earning itself multiple Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations, all under the artistic production of acclaimed director, composer, and producer, Luis Bravo. The show returned to Broadway in 2004 and 2013. Forever Tango was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award when the show played at the West End in London in 1995. He joined Forever Tango in Toronto in 1996. Before moving to the United States, Mr. Vernieri toured extensively throughout Latin America, playing recitals as a concert pianist and performing with bands and orchestras in Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Bogotá, San Juan de Puerto Rico, etc. He is an equally adept classical or popular music player. He has appeared on television, radio, in concert halls, resort hotels and nightclubs and as a soloist in Toronto and Montreal. He lived for many years in Los Angeles, where he played with Lalo Schifrin and the late Henry Mancini. While living in Las Vegas for five years, he performed with the Youth Camerata Orchestra and was the pianist for Tropicana’s Follies Bergere and the Lido Du Paris at the Stardust and Dunes hotels. Jean-Luc Don Vito (Makeup and Hair Designer) was born in Lyon, France, where he studied the sciences and the arts. He launched his professional career by winning first place honors in a prominent makeup competition in Paris. Don Vito has worked with noted directors, Claudio Segovia and Héctor Orezzoli, on the productions of Tango Argentino, Flamenco Puro, Black and Blue and Noche Tropical. Don Vito was also involved in the production of Cats and 42nd Street in Paris. He designed Faust Argentino and the revue, Cabaret Coconuts, for Alfredo Arias in Europe. He has designed

makeup for Vogue, Elle and Glamour, and has worked on the sets of many European films and videos. He especially thanks his master teacher, Dany Sanz, creator of the line, MAKE UP FOR EVER. He joined Forever Tango in 1994.

Argemira Affonso (Costume Designer) or simply “Miro,” was born and raised in the city of Manaus, along the Amazon River, in northern Brazil. Her mother, a dressmaker, sent her to school to learn embroidery and pattern making, and, though talented, Miro had no intention of following in her mother’s footsteps. Pursuing other interests, she enrolled at the university in Manaus and studied geography and later, administration. To make ends meet, she ran her own workshop (her designs were shown locally at fashion shows and exhibitions). She ultimately contributed her first costume work for the movie, Fitzcarraldo, which was shot in Manaus. Ms. Affonso was nominated for the 1998 Drama Desk Award for Best Costume Design for her work on Forever Tango. Rolando Obregón (Sound Designer), a native of Formosa, Argentina, is a live audio engineer. He joined Forever Tango on the South American and Korean legs of the tour. Since then, he has traveled with the show throughout North America, Asia, Europe, Mexico and Argentina. “Roly” is pleased to work with such a unique and artistic show as Forever Tango.

Luis Bravo (Creator/Director). A world-class musician, Mr. Bravo was born in Añatuya, Santiago de Estero and moved to Buenos Aires when he was eight. He began guitar studies at the age of four and later turned to the cello. Mr. Bravo attended the Municipal Conservatory of Music Manuel de Falla and the University of Buenos Aires and was awarded numerous prizes while studying in Argentina. Upon graduating, he became a member of the Argentine National Symphony, a position he held until he moved to the United States to study with the celebrated teacher, Ronald Leonard. His engagements have included the Buenos Aires Philharmonic, Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires, Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute Orchestra, etc. He has performed as a recitalist with chamber music ensembles throughout the country and as a soloist with the major symphonies in South America. An avid performer of Argentine music, Mr. Bravo performed the world premiere of the Double Concerto for Cello, Bandoneón and Orchestra by Lisandro Adrover, a widely praised piece that was dedicated to him and which he performed with Mr. Adrover at the Cervantes National Theatre with the Argentine National Symphony. In March 2001, he toured Japan with violinist Taro Hakase, with whom he recorded the tango album, Nostalgia, for Toshiba EMI with the Forever Tango Orchestra. In addition to his solo career, Mr. Bravo has firmly established himself as a producer with a recognized reputation. In 1996, Luis Bravo was awarded the Spoleto Festival’s coveted Simpatia Prize for Forever Tango. In 1998, he and Rubén Blades received a special distinction from ACE as the two most successful 8 | IRVINE BARCLAY THEATRE

Latin artists on Broadway. Mr. Bravo directed a special with Karen Kain for CBC, Canadian Broadcasting Company, during which Kain performed with Jorge Torres in “A Evaristo Carriego” from Forever Tango. The Boston Pops Orchestra dedicated a special program to his work for the series, Evenings at Pops, for PBS, with Leslie Caron as a host. In 2002, he created Malambo. In this production, Mr. Bravo and his company of 30 performers, direct from Argentina, created an electric panorama of Argentine music, song and dance. Malambo incorporated the juxtaposition of the rural gaucho dance tradition, known as malambo, with the urban sophistication of tango and the Spanish influence of fiery flamenco. Luis Bravo chose to put on the stage the classic conflict between the culture of the land with that of the city, utilizing the music of Dimitri Shostakovich as neutral ground for the final clash between the culture of the native and that of the European immigrant. From Luis Bravo’s masterful hand emerged Forever Tango and Malambo, these two beautiful productions that are so Argentine in origin, yet universal in appeal. Since 2006, Luis Bravo has resided in Lexington, KY. FOREVER TANGO STAFF TOUR SUPERVISION
