Dear Parents and Carers
hat a wonderful evening we had last night at the Spring Concert! We were entertained by amazingly accomplished musical performances from the Reception and Year 1s right through to our GCSE musicians. I should like to thanks all of the Music department for their hard work on this event, as well as the Big Band competition which took place on Monday and last Friday evening’s Battle of the Bands. It was great to see so many of you at our End of Term Awards Assemblies today and to be able to join with you in celebrating all the progress and achievements of the term. I hope that you all enjoy a fantastic Easter break with your families and we look forward to seeing the students back on Monday 11th April. With best wishes,

INA’s Awards Assemblies – Thursday 24th March 2016
O
n Thursday 24th March we held our end of spring term awards assemblies. They were great opportunities for staff, students, governors and parents/carers to come together to formally celebrate our students’ achievements at the end of the term. At the assemblies we presented awards in recognition of students’ academic progress and attainment, personal progress and the development of their BRIDGES dispositions. Excellent attendance and punctuality was also celebrated. Congratulations to all of the award winners and to all students at INA for a fantastic start to the year!

Year 10 visit the Natural History Museum

ast week Year 10 students visited the Natural History Museum over two days to explore the exhibits and gain valuable information as they prepare for their GCSE exams. Triple Science students visited on Wednesday and Double Science students spent the day at the popular venue on Thursday. Students spent their day finding fascinating facts about the human biology, getting up close to dinosaurs and charting the 4-billion-year history of the earth. Some Triple scientists were fortunate enough to get behind-the-scenes access to The Spirit Collection, where they were treated to seeing a selection of the millions of preserved species the Museum houses, including an 8.6 m long giant squid, a rare scaly mammal called a pangolin and some samples collected by Charles Darwin himself on his famous Beagle voyage. Following this they had a talk charting the history of biology from one of the Museum’s expert botanists.
Students represented INA fantastically well and were truly exhausted after a day trailing the historic Museum as they gathered facts to aid their Science GCSE work.
Students said of the trip: “I learnt about classification while looking at the real species.” “I enjoyed going behind the scenes to see where they kept all the species as it was really interesting to see how they were preserved.” “I liked the trip as we got the chance to visit many exhibits.” “I liked the freedom to learn Science independently.”

Lost Property As the term draws to a close there are a number of articles in Lost property. Parents: please encourage your child to come and check the lost property box at Student Reception by Friday 15th April. After this date all lost property left over will be disposed of. IN FOOTBALL ALONE SEVEN IN 10 FANS HAVE HEARD HOMOPHOBIC ABUSE ON All students in Years 7, 8 & 9 participated THE TERRACES. We can only rid sport of homophobia, in the Sport Relief Mile during their biphobia and transphobia by all of us P.E lesson this week. All students standing together with players, clubs and fans and sending a message that it has no place in showed great determination, with today’s game.

The Year 8 girls took on Wanstead away on Tuesday night and managed to withhold the home team’s attack well within the first quarter. In the second quarter Wanstead proved to have the advantage and scored 2 within quick succession. INA countered and worked hard when in possession against a very strong Wanstead defence to regain 2 points within the 3rd quarter – both fantastic shots from Manisha Mahil. The fourth saw INA perform to a high standard, particularly their movement in attack. However Wanstead’s change in formation lead to a 6-2 loss for INA

BRIDGES How we build learning power and develop character at Isaac Newton Academy “We build too many walls and not enough bridges.” Isaac Newton The secondary BRIDGES programme commences on Monday 14th September. BRIDGES are habits of mind or learning characteristics that develop a student's character and learning power and enable them to grow into well rounded individuals and resilient learners. On a two weekly cycle throughout the year, Year 7 and 8 students are introduced to one or two new habits of mind or learning characteristics that will permeate throughout the curriculum. This will take place through a range of interactive activities. In addition, the students will experience BRIDGES learning objectives in each and every lesson throughout Isaac Newton Academy. Year 9 BRIDGES lessons will focus on strengthening certain BRIDGES learning characteristics through exploration of PHSE topics and themes. Each fortnight you will find top tips in the newsletter of ways of supporting your child to develop the BRIDGES habits of mind and learning characteristics within the home.
ATTENDANCE Regular attendance is a 7T crucial factor in students’ educational development 7W and ability to achieve their 7N full potential. At Isaac Newton Academy every student is set the target of 100% attendance. We know that attendance has a direct link to progress, and would urge you to really consider if a day off school is necessary.

Ahmed Al-Khafaji Award (Peer Commendation Award) Ahmed was well known for being kind, for helping others and for being extremely polite. He was also someone known for his hard work and absorption; the idea, therefore, is that the winner should be someone that encapsulated one of these qualities in that week. Mr Butler-Zanetti: Perdeep Kalsi has shown excellent sociability, proactively engaging people in conversations and asking about their welfare/day etc. I’ve also seen him giving really good advice to year 7s working on IL. Year 8 Girls HPV Vaccination The Year 8 girls HPV vaccination that was scheduled to take place on 12th April has been postponed. This is because there is an insufficient time gap between the date of the first vaccination and the one that had been scheduled for 12 April. The revised date for the second vaccination is 26th May. Further instructions and information will be in the newsletter nearer the time. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Thank you

Increase in price of school meals from April 2016 Having held the price of £2.10 for a school meal since January 2014, we will be increasing the cost to £2.20 with effect from April 2016. We will continue to provide a healthy school meal which includes a main course (halal, non halal and vegetarian option) and salad bar and a desert. We are currently reviewing the menu and will issue a new menu cycle at the beginning of the new term. Please can you ensure that your child’s account is topped up at the beginning of each week in order to ensure sufficient funds are available for their school meal and any additional snacks Many thanks
