Isaac Regional Charity Fund supports training to recognise and respond to domestic violence The Isaac Regional Charity Fund (IRCF) has partnered with Clermont Community Housing and Other Services Incorporated (CCHAOSI) and CQ University to deliver training to recognise and respond to domestic and family violence.
Isaac Regional Charity Fund Director and Mayor Anne Baker said violence against women is at epidemic proportions. “Devastatingly, over 12 months, on average, one woman is killed every week in Australia as a result of intimate partner violence,” she said. “One in three women has been a victim of violence at the hands of someone they know. “This accredited training will help people in our region to effectively recognise and respond appropriately to domestic and family violence. “Each May, Queensland marks Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month. “This training is our opportunity to send a clear message that violence of this sort will not be tolerated.” The nationally recognised Community Services Training will help participants: •
increase skills in responding to domestic violence
•
build on understanding and knowledge of domestic violence
•
enhance practice responses to domestic violence
The sessions, delivered by CQ University and the Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research training professionals, will be held on May 16 -17 from 8.30am to 4.30pm at the Moranbah Community Centre. “The training is made possible through funds raised from the 2015 Mayor’s Charity Ball to help end domestic violence,” Mayor Baker said. “Fifty percent of the $39,946 raised was donated to White Ribbon with the remaining being used to support worthwhile initiatives such as this. This outstanding result would not have been possible without the support of our generous supporters and sponsors.” There is a cost of $30 for catering with enrolments closing Wednesday May 10.
