WORKSHOPS THAT ARE SEW AMAZING AND TO DYE FOR The colourful worlds of machine embroidery, patchwork and tie-dyeing will energise Clermont residents’ creative minds thanks to government funding.

More than $4,400 from round one of the Isaac Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) will benefit workshops happening in February and March following successful applications by Nebo resident Annette Newton and Clermont Artslink.

Mayor Anne Baker said Council was committed to arts and cultural development in the region.

“We’re powered by its people who through their hard work and ingenuity help to energise the world,” Mayor Baker said.

“Creativity connects and energises our people and powers our communities by improving our health and sense of wellbeing.”

Catering for beginners to advanced sewers, Clermont Artslink’s We’re Sewing Outback textile weekend on March 28-31 will bring together people from around Isaac and beyond who are interested in machine embroidery and patchwork.

During three days of workshops, textile artist Jane Grove and her assistant Susan Nott will teach attendees techniques to use in machine embroidery, isaacrcouncil patchwork and general sewing.

Queensland Arts Minister Leeanne Enoch said investing in creative and cultural experiences through the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) strengthened regional communities, boosted cultural tourism, and enhanced the quality of life in rural and remote towns and cities.

“RADF is a unique partnership between the Queensland Government and Isaac Regional Council to support local talent, unite communities and celebrate the arts across the state,” Ms Enoch said.

“The Queensland Government, through Arts Queensland, is contributing $2.08 million in 2018-19 in partnership with 58 councils state-wide to help deliver cultural experiences which align with local priorities.”

The Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Isaac Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

TRAINING METHODS CONTRIBUTED BY LOU POWER

If you are considering undertaking some form of further training/study/education, let’s explore some methods of learning so you can make choices suitable for you.

Case Studies

Films & Videos

practical examples of principle or theory. They can also build a strong sense of teamwork as teams investigate a scenario together to make sense of a case.

Films and videos can be used on their own or in conjunction with other training methods.

To be truly effective, training films and videos should be focused on a specific objective and, if they are produced effectively, will keep the learner’s interested by stimulating discussion on specific issues during the viewing or when it is finished.

Films and videos are good training tools but have some of the same disadvantages as a lecture – where it is left to run without allowing interaction from the learners.

A few risks to think about - showing a film or video from an outside source may not touch on issues directly affecting a specific company workplace. Learners may find the information very interesting but irrelevant to their position in the company.

Some trainers like to show videos as a break from another training method, i.e. as a break from a lecture (but still allow coffee breaks) as learners will usually want a break from any training material, so a film wouldn´t hold their interest.

Planned Reading Planned reading is preparation to more formal methods of training. Some learners need to understand specific issues before heading into the classroom session.

Planned reading will provide employees with a better idea of what the issues are, giving them a chance to think of any questions beforehand.

Conclusion Many avenues exist to train employees. The key is to match the training method to their role in the workplace.

Assess each training method implemented in the organisation and get feedback from learners to see if they learned anything.

Then take the results from the most popular and most effective methods to design a specific training program.

1080 WILD DOG AND FERAL PIG BAITING PROGRAM 2019 Isaac Regional Council would like to advise all graziers that the baiting program for 2019 is scheduled as per the dates set out below.

Manufactured baits are available outside of these times, orders must be made in advance and delivery is approximately three weeks from order date.

Please Note: Baiting will only be conducted during the below periods.

RURAL RECHARGE DAY CLERMONT EVENT POSTPONED Isaac residents are advised that the planned Rural Recharge Day at Clermont Showgrounds on 22 February has been postponed.

This is due to the present disaster conditions and flooding in North-West Queensland, which has required participating agencies to urgently redirect resources to this region.

A new date for the event will be announced in the near future.
